So this is the new version of the Old Western Avenue place that was in Blue Island for years.
They moved into in the hinterlands of Mokena a few years back.
Tried my favorite that I would always order the Pollo Estrella, and it was a bit of a let down....I guess you can't recreate what you remember from your youth....

We went to this location as it is fairly new in our area, we were greeted by hostess and she sat us right away and brought us chips and salsa. We arrived at exactly 6:30pm after 15 minutes a waitress walked by and said that she will be right with us, my wife and I didn’t complain as it was busy, but she never came back and we never got a drink or even water. It was now 7:01 and my wife went to the hostess to let her know and she smiled and said “ well we’re busy “ so we just walked out. I can’t review the food as we never ate but the service was terrible. Very disappointing . Mike

The best margaritas ever. I can taste the alcohol. The food is awesome and everyone there is so nice to my husband and I. We go almost every Friday. I won't go anywhere else. Never a disappointment

Just spent $16 on a very small burrito like half the size of a regular at most Mexican places and 2 small cheese Quesadilla, then ask for green salsa it was extra, very disappointed

The tacos ranchero was really good! Probably the most authentic Mexican food I’ve had in a while. Didn’t love the salsa personally, but I like an obnoxious amount of cilantro in mine so don’t gauge your opinion off my salsa preferences!

My friend and I went here to lunch, and it was nasty. This restaurant is very gentrified and is not authentic Mexican-style food. My burrito was filled with shredded chicken, and I almost choked on a bone from it, and my rice tasted freezer burned too. My burrito was nearly 11 dollars, and I was charged extra for sauce, and I barely Got any napkins.

I was in the area yesterday and decided to try an old favorite restaurant. My family and I used to eat at El Cortez all the time growing up in Mokena!
This is the BEST Mexican Restaurant in Mokena by far! I liked the updating that El Cortez has done. All of the servers are extremely nice and polite!
LIGHTENING FAST SERVICE and plenty of big portions! In and out in under 1 hour!
I tried the Edd-E's Special and it was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!
The other meals were also delicious as well!
Highly recommend this restaurant if you are visiting Mokena or just happen to be in the area!

I was highly disappointed with the margarita which was bland and didn’t taste of any alcohol. The food was ok but not as grand as all the Reviews made it out to be . It’s not the worse meal I’ve ever had but definitely not as hype as the reviews make it seem. I would not recommend this place to any of my friends and stay away from the mini burrito.
