Lamar's Donuts And Coffee

Friendly workers and a large assortment of donut styles and flavors! Very small interior, but it’s nice to grab a donut and walk along Johnson. My only slightly critical comment would be that the cherry filled donut I got was a little more saturated with oil than normal (as if the oil wasn’t hot enough before the dough was dropped in). So it felt very heavy / greasy. Otherwise great place for a sweet breakfast treat!

Staff is very nice and hard working. Cold Saturday mornings is a tough ask for any job. The donuts are pretty good. I don’t think they make them there, but they are reasonably fresh. Only problem is that my dozen donuts were $28.60. I didn’t even get anything exotic. At Dunkin’, with their massive overhead, they are $9.99. Fluffy fresh next door to Lamar’s, they are $13. I understand inflation, i really do. Stuff costs more. Have to pay people more. But this price hike seems like they pulled forward the next 20 years.

I hadn’t had Lamar’s Donuts for a while and since my favorite donut place was closed, I thought I would try Lamar’s again. The staff was nice and the service was good. I walked in and my shoes were sticking to the floor. Not a good sign. I ordered several donuts, and it was fairly expensive..over $35. I took the donuts home and served them to my guests. I started eating my buttermilk bar and it tasted stale and chemically like there was too much leavener in the formula. It also had been fried in old grease which is very unpleasant. I tried another of the donuts and it was the same thing. I’m a chef/baker and a Food Scientist. I work in this industry and I can honestly say these were the worst donuts I have ever had. I would have been better off going to a grocery store and buying off the shelf donuts. Very disappointed in Lamar’s Donuts. I expected better. I gave two stars, as the service was friendly. Lamar’s needs to do better for KC.

I wanted to try Lamar for a long time.I took my family on a road trip and we went through Kc. I think this location need to retrain their employee on how to talk to customers . My wife was so upset that she left, we didn’t buy anything. This review is not about they’re donuts. I never leave one star rating for any business.

Quick and friendly service. When I got there, they were pretty much out of a lot of things, which sucked. Pretty disappointed that I wasn't able to get the donuts I really wanted. I did end up getting something else just because I didn't want to leave empty-handed for the drive that I made there. Especially for a place that opens only til noon and pretty popular with locals, you should continuously make enough all the way up until closing time.
