Review Mama Sheila's Soulfood - Minneapolis

No doubt about it. THIS is worth a repeat trip. Sounds of contemporary black music soothe your ears while luminaries of Black excellence stand watch around the dining room, all while you feast on delectable dishes like fried chicken, black eyed peas on rice, meatloaf, Mac and cheese, hot wings, candied yams, cornbread, and SO MUCH MORE...... This is Mama Sheila's House of Soul, the ONLY restaurant where I've ever successfully been treated like family. This is what every restaurant aspires to be: delicious, welcoming, and a respite from the insanity of the real world. Food is offered via served buffet, so you point to the dishes you want and how much. At the end, everyone in your party has their plate weighed ($8.95/lb) either in a to-go box or on a plate if you're dining inside. Drinks range the gamut from Kool aid to pop and more! Can't wait to come back. Thanks Mama Sheila's!!!

When I walked in, I was instantly impressed by the Decour. It shows that they put a lot of time and thought into what is it with the core of this place. That makes it only natural that they’re putting that much thought and time into the food. Once I came in, I was greeted by the owner and she escorted us to the food and explain the Buffet. It was a great variety of a lot of different kinds of food. It’s nice and simple and you pay by the weight And nine dollars a pound is pretty good compared to most other buffets The food was great. There’s lots of different varieties, and the owner came to the table and introduced herself and you could tell she cares about you and your experience. So I would highly recommend trying this place out. Swing by and pop in and try the food!

Why anyone would review at less than five stars I have no idea. It was like an orgasm in the mouth. The fried chicken. The meatloaf. The collar greens with Turkey oh my!!

Everything here was delicious, from the fried & bbq chicken, to the cornbread, and the cabbage and the Mac ‘n cheese was 🤌🏾 (chef’s kiss). They have a medley of r&b songs and videos playing which gave me nostalgia and pictures with biographies of many famous African Americans and their contributions to society, I loved it and highly recommend anyone looking for good, home cooked food

I can't get enough of this place. I love in California, so every time I come into town I gotta stop at least once. They are close to the airport so it's usually the 1st stop coming in and the last going out. Great food the way I had it cooked growing up in Tennessee and Alabama. Best collard greens Wlthat side of the Mississippi.

Went to Bloomington Minnesota about a week ago and decided to stop by and eat here. The food was delicious, by far the best soul food I've ever had. Everything I ate a absolutely amazing. The atmosphere was wonderful too. Very clean and with good music and the pictures of all famous African American celebrities around the restaurant. I recommend everyone to go try out the buffet.

Oh my goodness this place is fabulous! I'm from MS so I know a thing or 2 about good soul food. I found myself away from home on Thanksgiving and everyone told me this is where I'd find the best food ....and they were so RIGHT. Lots of choices and seasoning was perfect on everything. They took me in and made me feel right at home. Great food and wonderful hospitality. Will definitely go back!!

I’m from Louisiana visiting for a week and I had to visit twice. The food is so good here. Reminds me of home

OMG!!! Mama Sheila's is the best soul food restaurant ever!!! I bought the all you can eat buffet, and it did not disappoint!!! The food options are a literal representation of the word "plethora". The flavors are unique and exquisite. You want to eat yourself into a food coma? You can do that. You want to feel like your Family is having a Sunday soul food dinner? You can do that. I will eat here at least once a month, for the rest of my life. And the ambience is a cross between The Cotton Club and Planet Hollywood meets Black Excellence. There are pictures of famous People who have uplifted the Community, everywhere you look. There is also a cash bar. I didn't visit it, but I plan to. Lbs. You have to eat here!!!

My first time at Mama Sheila's and this place is a unique fun experience with killer food. The ambiance is over the top (in a good way) golden decor, chandelier, and a blue sky on the ceiling. The ceiling trim is lined with various black musicians, artists, and actors. A giant Prince mural along the wall. As far as I could tell lunch is only offered as a buffet but I believe they have a takeout menu as well. Old school R&B music playing today. The food is downright delicious, true soulfood. The collard greens were fantastic (cooked with turkey)! No pork served in this establishment. All the chicken I tried was tender and flavorful. Meatloaf super delicate and delicious. The cornbread, spaghetti, mac and cheese all looked fantastic, unfortunately i was taking a break from carbs. Will have to return. The food is no frills, just soul, heart, and t.l.c. leaving you satisfied with a huge smile on your face.

The food was amazing, the service was slow and they could've been more personable but it's a family own and ran so practice make perfect and the are still learning. They were definitely very accommodating and making sure I got everything I needed. I got take out but I wouldn't mind dining in because I would've felt like I was at home eating with my family!

Customer service is hit or miss. We love supporting our people but this place was better when it was all you can eat. Now they weigh the food which is weird to me, personally but makes more sense for the owners.

Very cool place, loved the history hanging around you and the feel gives me after church vibes going downstairs to grab a plate of food. Everyone was friendly and helpful but it took awhile to get a drink and the line to get to the food because it's only two at a time took a bit. I did appreciate the sanitary factor it's covered behind glass and they scoop for you. It's not a buffet any more. They weigh after each plate and you pay, it's $8.95 lb. You get a nice portion of food but a bit pricey. Some very well seasoned and delicious items were the fried chicken, hot wings, rice, sweet potatoes, cabbage were great. The greens and red beans and rice not much flavor. The cornbread cool take on it they mix like a cake batter with it so it taste more like cake then cornbread. Ice tea was not sweet tea it tasted sour like it was going bad. If I visit again it will definitely be a to go order fried chicken and cabbage and corn bread will be my go to. The ladies were amazing but some of the food not seasoned.

Mama Shelia's is honestly the best. The decor was lovely and the music was amazing. I been all over down south and have missed the love and soul that is put into authentic soul food you will find this same love, and soul put into Mama Shelia's soul food. As a vegetarian I love the fact that I was able to have more than five options. I have honestly never said this, but the red beans and rice is better than my mother's. When you live in a big city you want to have a restaurant that you can bring your friends and family to, that will leave them craving for more for me Mama Shelia's is that place. Definitely worth the drive and price.

What a wonderful community minded Christian restaurant that highlights successful pioneers in our country and the amazing soul food. We tried many as you choose your food from a line and pay per pound. Would definitely go back again and try more things.

This place was AMAZING!!! From the moment you walk through the door, the ambience is breath taking. Makes you feel like you’re eating in your grandma’s fancy dining room. Gospel music playing. All of the artwork and photos are of people of color. The owner, her husband (designer and builder), and head chef & waitresses come around and introduce themselves and make sure you don’t need anything. I didn’t use a single condiment. I tried jerk chicken (breast & leg....def had the spice), candied yams, collard greens with turkey, fried wings (with Mama Sheila’s dry rub), macaroni, and black eyed peas (southwestern/Cajun-like with peppers and corn). Grabbed a bottle of sparkling cider to complement. No room for dessert but I will definitely try it next time.

Wonderful garlicky greens, rich-tasting red beans and rice, tender cornbread, delicious curried potatoes with chickpeas and the house's own veggie "chicken" nuggets, finished off with some of the best sweet potato pie I ever ate. This is soul food at its finest, served with hospitality that will make you think you've come home at last.

We walked past Mama Sheila's this evening and noticed they were doing a quiet opening. The food was amazing, I had the parmesan garlic and Mama's wings, they both are AMAZING!!! The winds have a lot of meat on them, so that was a HUGE bonus!! We also tried the yams and banana pudding they both are just as good as the wings!! We spent some time talking to the owners and they are wonderful people!!!! The space blew me away with how they took an old space and made it look amazing.
