Review Saint Genevieve - Minneapolis

Sarah Horness
The restaurant is cozy and a bit loud. The service was excellent. My rye whiskey sour was wonderful. The duck with lentils was delicious and the chocolate creme brulee was perfection. The only thing I did not really love was the escargot croquettes. The sauce on them was delicious, but I did not enjoy the croquettes themselves. A small disappointment in a lovely meal.

There was a change of brunch plans and we ended up going to Saint Genevieve's for brunch. I was worried about parking the most because the Google app mentioned limited parking in the area but at around 12:30, there were several spots available right next to the restaurant. Reservations were very easy to make and manage using the Tock app. I have not been here in a long time and the last time was for dinner several years ago. I could smell the aromas of fresh cooking as I walked into the door. I took a few minutes to Glance around and admire all the mosaic tile and wooden floor. The old mirrors and the beautiful tables and chairs through. As well as the layout of the bar and the way that the establishment is laid out with so many windows. The combination of high ceilings and windows brings in ample natural light and brightens up the place. Our server was Sophie who told us about the menu items and the various beverage items and we decided to try their seasonal mulled wine spritzer. This vibrant purple concoction with an orange peel for garnish on ice was refreshing and very good. It paired well with everything I had to eat. We were not sure what to eat so we decided to just order a few items and share them and just chat and enjoy. Our table was small so Sophie was going to bring them out in waves. While we were waiting my friend had a coffee and I had an espresso. Her coffee was fine but my espresso was very bitter most likely due to the grind being way too fine or over extraction from my experience making it at home in my espresso maker. Other than that the first items that came out were the smoked lox and the shakshouka. I have had smoked lox in many locations and it's always like some nasty pickled smoky mystery meat. I have had it at some places where it's not a bright color and more muted as if it was in a jar or air-tight container. The lox Here tasted very fresh and was not too vinegary or overly smokey or salty. It did not leave that fishy aftertaste in your mouth and as you chewed it up the luscious fish melted like butter and tasted like a good piece of sashimi-grade salmon. This blended in with the capers along with a touch of the herb cream cheese it was divine. The shakshouka well I was telling my friend that I have not had a good shakshouka in the United States ever. The last good shakshouka I had was in Ramot Naftali Israel and Tel Aviv Israel. Since then I have been to so many places claiming they make a great shakshouka and how it is just like back in Israel and this and that and you taste it and it's like omg this is dreadful. It's like canned tomato paste with oil, overcooked egg, salt, and mystery spices. This shakshouka is very similar but the stuff was more thinly cut I rate this the best I have tasted in the US so far. Disclaimer I don't go seeking out shakshouka but I sometimes try it when I see it at a nice reputable restaurant or a Middle Eastern restaurant. While eating our lox and shakshouka we met an amazing older couple who I could tell by speaking to them were foodies also. They seemed to be on the next level. I write reviews for fun and to share but they seemed on a way more professional level and it was such an honor speaking to them. I opened up my notes as they gave me some tips on locations where we should go check out and I am making those a priority. As well as the great conversation with them. The fun part about what I like about the food and not what I like about the food is also the experience I have at a place and this couple made our day we hope we run into them again down the road and will never forget them. Next came out the Baccon. Their bacon was thick and not overly cooked where you would need to see the dentist if you bit into it. The bacon slices were also all uniformly matched and dress right dress. The seasoning on it was perfect and was not salty like the Dead Sea. The bacon went really well with the omelet that came next. The omelet was wrapped to perfection and cut incredibly smooth. It was stuff with all types of goodness and one bite into it revealed a

For a French twist on brunch visit St. Genevieve restaurant in Minneapolis and start with a cup of French press coffee with warm beignets. Our Server, Foster, provided excellent service. Every dish we had was fantastic! We will definitely be back soon!

Food was great and the atmosphere is charming. There is a 21% surcharge on everything and our server seemed dismissive and wasn’t super helpful. Maybe we caught her on an off day, but it really rubbed my wife the wrong way.

The Beignets are everything! I would return just for them. The toast and jam, so good! The eggs, everything was delicious!

Very chic, fun restaurant with great food both aesthetically and taste wise. Plus, our waiter was extremely friendly and well informed on the menu. Absolutely loved the seasonal items!

My family and I had a festive dinner at this restaurant! We liked it very much: the cuisine is delicious, everything is excellent and tastefully prepared and served. The service is very attentive, we were given a good recommendation in the choice of food👍☺️ Prices are reasonable, the atmosphere is cozy! Recommend!!!

We had a beautiful and memorable dinner. Excellent service. We were so relaxed and delighted with dinner that we kept ordering food and wine. This meant we had sticker shock when the bill came. We'll definitely be back.

Stopped in on Sunday without reservations for brunch. They were busy were nice enough to seat us before the lunchtime rush so I would recommend placing a reservation. We tried the omelette and burger. Both were expertly crafted. The omelette was fluffy, not too airy and not tough: perfect. Every bite was delicious! The burger had a garlic aioli, paired with mushrooms and shallots gave such a subtle umami when paired with the burger that it too was bite after flavorful bite. Given we have recently moved to the area, this will definitely be added to our favorite go-to places for brunch.

We hadn't been to St Genevieve in some time but were very pleasantly surprised by the quality and presentation of the food. Quite simply, this was the most refined dinner in the TC's that we've had in many years. Every course was elegant: Salad, trout, steak, fries, rolls, dessert, coffee, tea. The restaurant is small with close seating, and it can be loud. But the food will bring us back.

Food, trout and beignets were excellent albeit small portions and a little expensive. But, hey it is a French restaurant after all. It's always a little cool in the winter, but not as chilly as European restaurants this time of year. I do wish for some fine French desserts to finish off an excellent meal, but alas they had or offered none. As with some restaurants a hospitality charge of 21% is now automatically added to all bills, which helps all staff get a reasonable wage.

We put off going here for a long time simply because we got busy or just plain forgot about it. But we're glad we finally made it to St. Genevieve. First, let me start off about the service. It's great! We sat at the bar and the bartender was so pleasant and delightful. We had great laughs. Now, the food. Amazing. I got the mushroom and guyere burger and it is possibly thee best burger I've had in a looooong time. I almost didn't want to offer a bite to my man. He ordered two dishes (sorry, I forgot the names) and they were both delicious. Great visit all around.

Ate here with 3 coworkers on a business trip. The food was really good. I really enjoyed the deviled eggs, French fries, and the Salmon with mussels entree. They also had a really great spritz cocktail. I ended up drinking 3 of them. Would definitely come back here if I am ever back in town. We came on a Monday night and it wasn’t very busy, which was surprising to me.

Perfect spot for date night in a darling neighborhood. You can never go wrong with French cuisine 🙌

one of my favorite restaurant experience since i've moved here in 2018. service was impeccable - shout out ace! vibe was perfect with abe's playlist and to top it all off we had dinner with some early warm weather at golden hour.

Beautiful dishes loaded with delightful exquisite flavors. Saint Genevieve is a treat! We went for my son’s 30th birthday, and we all are comfortable sharing, so we ended up getting everything on the menu. Everything. Even the Add Ons that were offered when I made reservations. No weak notes. Every dish was 5 stars. Staff were excellent, too. Friendly, courteous, attentive, never over-staying a table visit. Interesting cocktails, and nice but short wine list.

The best meal we've had in two years in the Twin Cities. Exquisite food, fantastic service (thanks Christine), beautiful setting. I was especially grateful that they acknowledged my birthday in a lovely understated manner without a crowd of waiters singing. If they had had a full bar rather than just beer and wine (although the wine list was lovely and our wine delicious) and if they had had a simple baguette to sop up the sensational sauces on our ravioli and ris de veau, it would have been perfect! Definitely our go to place in the future when we want a special, delicious meal.

Once again, St Genevieve has blown us away! My wife and I had reason to celebrate today and came in without a reservation on a random Tuesday night; St. Gen took outstanding care of us. Our server Chris was impeccable. His recommendations were spot on, and the kitchen delivered: five plates (plus dessert): each one excellent, some of them (fois gras, scallops + duck breast) knock-outs. As always, wine selections were tippity-top knotch. Brie’s list is the city’s best, period. The staff spent generous time with us to make the night very special. Congratulations to Steven on a perfect restaurant, and the deserving staff that carries St. Gen every day. Minneapolis is lucky to have you.

Wonderful cuisine, personal service, very Parisian atmosphere. Our server Peter was well acquainted with the menu and so personable yet professional, I was highly impressed. And I've been in the F&B industry my whole life, including working at the 4 seasons. Very classy, yet comfortable and chic in a French urban way, I will return next time my travels take me to Minneapolis. Highly recommend the cream of mushroom soup (completely new flavor on an old classic) and the warm basket of fresh begneits (did I spell that correctly?) They absolutely melt in your mouth. Everything was above any expectations I had upon arrival! Bon appetit! Don't let this one pass you by! Bon appetit!! Je temme!!!!

We went for our Anniversary dinner and couldn't have been more pleased. I love french food and St Genevieve was just a wonderful experience. We enjoyed a tartine and pommes frites before our entrees. My husband had the trout and I was honestly jealous of his dish. It was so delicious, it was almost pornographic. I ordered the chicken and it was very juicy with a crispy and nicely salted skin that played well with the couscous. The chicory panna cotta was honestly the best desert I've ever had. It was peppery, slightly bitter, and balanced nicely with the candied pecan jam and caramel sauce. It was a nice way to end the meal. Wine prices were higher than I'm used to, but the wines I had were very, very good. We're just used to paying suburban prices for alcohol, lol. The service was very attentive, but not overly so. It reminded me of my vacation several years ago in France, where dinner is expected to take longer so that you can enjoy your food, wine, and company. We will definitely be back!

Superb service. Outstanding food. We had selections from the "small plates" side of the menu. Wine list contains a variety of well known and lesser known wines. Strongly recommend St Genevieve for great food and good times with the caveat that the dining room can be loud because people are enjoying themselves.

We had and incredible dinner here this past weekend. We took a tour through the small plates menu, and every single thing we had was fantastic. The big standout were the mussels. Both my wife and I agreed, they may be the best we have ever eaten. Friendly and attentive staff, and the room itself is beautiful and comfortable We will most definately be back....a lot

We went for brunch during their Indeed Wooden Soul event and we couldn’t have asked for a better meal. Beautiful, thoughtful sour beer pairings and fantastic prix fixe menu.

Very friendly and helpful staff. House made bread and crackers, all fresh ingredients; fantastic mussels in a light wine broth & shrimp crepe with wild mushrooms-great wine and champagne list. new owners took it over 2 years ago, and completely redesigned everything. It looks and feels so comfortable, so much older than it actually is. What an absolute pleasure to find it.

Great service and food. Only downside is having two vegetarians at the table for the Sunday Supper fixed menu. They substituted a quarter of a cabbage head in place of the lamb for the main course.... and still charged $44 for those melas. Seems very overpriced.

Delicious brunch! Full of amazing flavors and interesting food combinations, like a parsnip tart with cherry chutney! The quiche was delightful. My son enjoyed his duck. We finished with Vietnamese coffee.

Wonderful Old World French feeling, awesome & extremely professional staff, clean & excellent food. Highly recommend...

Fun neighborhood restaurant with a great staff, fun food and a nice wine list - predominantly french wines.

I could not have been more pleased with St. Genevieve. We had reservations at 7:45 but the party before us was taking an unusually long time. The hostess apologized and offered us seats at the bar to get a drink while waiting for our table. We asked about the champagne and we're given several options based on our preferences. The recommendations we got were spot on. We were seated outside about 5-10 minutes later. Our server was incredibly attentive and responsive without being overbearing. We ordered the gem salad, bread, aligot, scallops, NY strip and the roast beef tartine. Everything was absolutely perfection. Any description I give will not do justice. Do yourself a favor and go try it. I will be back every time I come back to the Twin Cities!

I love this place. It is always the first place I take guests that come into town. Thank you for another wonderful experience.

The service, wine, and food (oh, the food!) are all impeccable, here. We ordered a variety of tartines, a salad, NY strip, and the aligot. Do not miss the Saumon d'Ete tartine if it's on the menu! Lightly lemony, with rich, beet-cured salmon, dill, snappy peas, and half of a deviled egg- this toast was a stand out. I'd go back just for that tartine. I can't wait to go back!

Fantastic birthday dinner. Unique and fabulous food and excellent service. Must come back to try their brunch!!
