Review Our Kitchen - Minneapolis

I’m obsessed with Al’s breakfast in dinkytown for the retro vibes and tiny local place, so I’ve been really excited to try Our kitchen for the similarity. It lived up to the hype and is a great brunch option in the Uptown area! We waited around 20 minutes at 10:30 on a Sunday. With the limited seating and singular grill to prepare food, it was a longer brunch experience but definitely worth it. The staff were friendly and efficient at bringing people in and out. I tried the pancakes with blueberries and chocolate chips and would definitely recommend them. Very buttery and on the denser side, which I prefer. Be prepared for a wait on the weekends but the food and vibes will be worth it!

Yum!! First time here a few weeks ago and have brought family since! Food is delicious and beyond worth the wait! This fun, historical diner cooks delicious food that isn't greasy like so many other diners. When you arrive, please read the board stating to wait outside for them to get you on the list. Definitely worth the wait.

Ham had just the perfect char to give it that deep pork taste yet moist and tender!! Everything cooked to order! Not a sham bam here is your food spot Quality takes time so relax and wait for an incredible meal!!! Cook and staff were friendly and efficient!!! Hard pressed to find a better spot anywhere anytime anyplace !!!

If Google let me leave a review with more than five stars, just one time a year, I would’ve used it here. Wow! The ambience, the food, the service, all fantastic! Thanks for the awesome breakfast this morning, looking forward to coming back.

My favorite breakfast spot! The sausage and pancakes are the stars of the show imo. When it’s nice out, they have more seating outside. Today was my first time doing pickup and it was fast and easy. Their estimated pickup time was exactly right! Thank you, Our Kitchen!

Just arrived back in the United States and I needed a good breakfast so I headed over to Our Kitchen. Ordered the kitchen special: two eggs, hash browns, sausage, blueberry pancake, and coffee. Everything was solid, but nothing was mind blowing. Service and the atmosphere were great. I loved the diner feel and it was nice to sit at the counter.

First time here, and everything was amazing! Service was fast and friendly, the food was fresh, hot and delicious. The hash browns are hands down the best I've had.

I visited Our Kitchen for the first time today, and I am already planning my next visit. What a true Minneapolis gem. Our Kitchen has an excellent atmosphere- cozy, friendly, and charming- with lots of history. We were surrounded by regulars, and the staff knew them by name. We chatted with one regular who spoke highly of the joint and showed us pictures of him visiting Our Kitchen dressed as Santa. Everyone was in high spirits, and they played great music to further set the vibe. Their menu is short and basic, because everything is expertly prepared. You get to watch Danny work his magic at the grill while you await your hot and fresh food. I ordered two eggs over medium, hashbrowns, coffee, and a chocolate chip pancake. Everything exceeded my expectations, and the pancake was the best pancake I’ve ever consumed. It was sweet, fluffy, and chewy. What a great place!!!

BACKSTORY: Years ago as a small child (2nd Grade) - went to school with a young lad named "Danny". It was a very short lived friendship. At the end of that school year his family moved away. The following year my family moved and a whole new life began for me as well. I would reminisce from time to time and one in a great while Danny popped up in my mind. I always wondered whatever happened to him. Fast forward 40+ years later (and the internet) and Danny popped into my head again. I thought "I wonder if the internet had anything to share. One internet search later and I was reading articles & reviews about Danny and Our Kitchen. I vowed one day I was going visit Our Kitchen. DISCLAIMER - Not knowing if Danny would remember me or not (not likely) - I had no intentions of making my visit a "thing". I did not introduce myself. For full transparency - I have no bias for the review of the restaurant or food. Not having any contact with the owner in in 47 years I have nothing to gain or to loose by my honesty in this review. REVIEW - After we dropped our car off for service, my wife and I decided to make it a "breakfast date morning" - and I thought this was the PERFECT opportunity to visit Our Kitchen! We arrived around 8:30am. Originally I wanted a patio seat outside - but since they were full, we ended up being seated inside in a little corner facing the grill. That was really a blessing in disguise! After ordering, we were fortunate to have a front row seat watching Danny do his thing. As many reviews before me have said - watching Danny prepare the orders was a site to behold. It was like watching a orchestra - grab some bread, into the toaster the bread went, flip some hash browns, pour some new pancakes on the griddle, cheese up that omelet in the pan, grab some eggs out of the fridge, butter that toast, prepare a plate, new eggs on the griddle, throw some new hash browns down on the griddle - and so it went throughout our time there. But, that did not stop Danny and his staff from some friendly banter! I am almost certain he did not recognize me during my visit. Here is where I briefly contemplated saying a long overdue hello to an old (and brief) friendship - but, I decided against it. I'm a little oddly anti-social, and Danny was a VERY busy fella - I allowed our interactions to remain friendly, casual, and brief. Soon we were watching Danny prepare our order. One of the things I have heard numerous times - is the size of the portions... So, my wife and I decided to split the Our Kitchen "Kitchen Special", and we added another couple of eggs on the side. Everything you have read about the portions is true. AMAZING!! Easily enough for two - or for one with some great leftovers later! The hash browns were as amazing as the articles you read about. My wife said that they appeared to be freshly shredded! The pancake was equally enjoyable! My wife went on and on with her praise about the pancake - and I was in complete agreement! In the end, we "tapped out" with a tiny bit of hash browns left over (just not enough to take home) and were both comfortably satisfied (if not even a bit "full"). The stop at Our Kitchen was an amazing kick-of to our morning date day! (We followed up with a walk around Lake Harriet to "work off" some of our big (and very tasty) breakfast! If you are on the fence about stopping at Our Kitchen, stop! Get off the fence and go visit this amazing little gem!! And for those of you who made it all the way through the story, and are still wondering - I did leave a small note in with the check saying hello from a old friend from long ago - and thanking Danny for a WONDERFUL breakfast!! Danny, if you are reading this review - You have an amazing little place, and it's clear you and your food are appreciated by many! I'm glad to see how well things have worked out for you! Keep it up!! Thanks for a wonderful experience! (David, from St. Kevin's - remembering drawing cemeteries and ghosts fondly!)

One of a kind place. Very few seats. Excellent food. The pancakes didn’t even need syrup.

We came here on a Saturday and the place was packed. They don't have a lot of seats available, so we had to wait a bit. They don't take reservations. The wait was 100% worth it, the food was so good and the service was great too. Such good coffee and perfect hashbrowns. I had the omelette and it was perfect! We will be back for sure.

Our Kitchen is so cute! A small cozy diner with service so friendly and food so good it's no wonder it seems to be all regulars dining there. The hashbrowns and pancakes are unreasonably good, and a regular divulged the special off-menu items and which days of the week to get them (corned beef hash, eggs benedict). It's such a joy to watch the cook, Danny, work on the small flat top and a few burners effortlessly produce plate after plate of astonishingly delicious diner classics

My father in law was in town for the Chiefs game and wanted breakfast before he left. We’d never been here before but a friend recommended it and boy were they right. He said it was the best meal he had during his visit (and we took him to a lot of restaurants). You get the works: coffee, pancake, hash browns, sausage and eggs for only $16. Incredible food and welcoming atmosphere. The host and the cook, who I think is also the owner, were both very sweet. We’ll definitely be back.

This is breakfast simplified to the benefit of the menu items. Pancakes are plate sized, fluffy, perfectly cooked (add fresh blueberries). Hash browns are a must with any of the options you choose.

Local institution with classic breakfast food. First time I’ve sat outside with my dog - I was SO impressed with the little yoga mats they had for dogs and bowls of ice water. Extremely kind and thoughtful. They also brought a “pup cup” for her when we got our food! As you’ll see on the sign by the door, the food takes a long time to cook, which we knew but it was still longer than we expected. If you’re in a rush come back another time, it’s worth it. The breakfast sandwich is my go to, but my partner got a pancake and now I will add that to my orders as well - it was great. While we waited for our food, our coffee was continually topped up and the servers were very friendly. Two entrees and drinks for under $30, great deal. Will be back!

I heard about the hashbrowns and was like, "How good can hashbrowns really be?" Then I had them and wad like, "Oh, they're THAT good." They were crispy on the outside and melt-in-your-mouth soft in the middle. We ordered them with tomato, green pepper, jalapeño, onions and cheese. We also had eggs and sausage. The sausage was really good, too. The kitchen is tiny, so it's almost impossible for the food to come out as quickly as you might be used to, if they're busy. Just know that before you go. It's worth the extra 10 minutes or so. We'll be back for the sausage, hashbrowns, and great little-diner feel.

Absolutely the best “home cooked” breakfast or lunch you will find outside of your own home. And that’s only if you own home has someone as special as Danny making the food! There isn’t a bad thing on the menu, the entire staff is a joy to be around, and the food quality of undeniable. Not a great spot for large groups but perfect for a cozy group of 2-4. Sitting at the counter is preferred because watching Danny work is extremely impressive. Highly recommend eating here on a quiet morning and going for a nice walk around South Minneapolis.
