Review The News Room - Minneapolis

We went for family dinner went my cousins came to town and it was great! A little loud, but the service was good and the food was too. I loved the shrimp Mac and cheese! Some of my family really enjoyed the jambalaya and I also really enjoyed the anchor wings and the tempura shrimp! The margarita flatbread was really was great as was the short ribs and rice! Nice and tender! People at the table were not a fan of the cheese curds. Says they tasted off. They used a different cheese and were a lot lighter and fluffier than we typically see. My niece thought her kids burger was okay but she is picky. The lasagna was good.. a little too cheesy and the drinks were super strong and reasonably priced! There is no parking lot but we did find meter parking with an event going on downtown! There are also parking garages around! I would go back again!

All around great place. Servers seem happy to be there, food was perfect and drinks are great... They even shake and pour martinis table side so they're ice cold and full to the top! My fiance eats burgers EVERYWHERE and said this one was the best he's had in the US! Home fries were crispy and not oily at all. I had the Cobb salad, which really was fantastic. Tons of every topping so you're not just left with lettuce for half of it. We're so in love with the place we plan to host our rehearsal dinner here in their event space! Two thumbs up! A must visit

Great food and a fantastic sailing ship bar! I have no idea how the ship fits into their newspaper theme, but it's outstanding! Bartenders literally climb the rigging for top sail (top shelf) bottles. They have a large variety of on-tap beer as well. We had a selection of appetizers right before a show and the service was very quick despite them being busy. The apps were unique and quite tasty! We want to come back and try everything else on the menu, it all sounds very enticing. Prices are a little high, but seem par for downtown, and the food is definitely worth it. I would have given this place 5 stars except for the extremely confusing restrooms. They're very hidden and sort of blend together in a hallway, plus the signs are quite small and high up in a dark area so you can't see them. I walked into the ladies room by accident and then several women walked into the men's room while I was there. That's not a huge deal these days but can be disconcerting if you're not expecting it.

Stopped by with a group of 6 for a Saturday lunch. They have a fun ship bar near the front entrance and the tables in the back are set up more as a sports bar with TVs playing different games (for us it was college football). They have a very extensive menu so it was easy for everyone to find something they wanted. I ordered the almond chicken salad, substituting feta for the blue cheese, and a strawberry mojito mocktail. Highly recommend the mocktail!! The chicken was delicious though the salad dressing was not my favorite and some of the greens towards the bottom of the salad weren't the best quality.

If you're looking for a fantastic restaurant in downtown Minneapolis, then The News Room is definitely worth checking out. With both valet parking and a nearby parking garage, it's easy to get there and find a spot to park. Upon entering, you'll notice that the restaurant is impeccably clean, and the unique interior adds to the overall ambiance. Despite the spacious room, the noise level is impressively low due to the high ceilings. The service is excellent, with attentive staff always willing to answer any questions or concerns. The menu boasts a wide variety of options, ensuring there is something for everyone. The food - it's absolutely delicious. While the presentation may be typical, the flavors are anything but. And if you're looking for a good drink, the bar won't disappoint either. What's even better is that the prices are very reasonable, typically ranging from $15-20 per dish. And on top of that, the portion sizes are quite generous. Overall, The News Room is an excellent restaurant that's well worth a visit. With its fantastic food, attentive service, and reasonable prices, it's sure to leave you impressed.

Visiting from out of town and we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of our late dinner here! Fantastic drinks, appetizer, and entree. Our server was a bit busy so the manager was making sure we were taken care of. This place is a gem!

Easily one of the coolest bars I have ever been to. We stopped in for a quick drink and we’re immediately impressed with the decorations in the space. The entire bar is a giant ship! They also have headline news articles spread throughout the restaurant and each room is separated into categories of news stories. Our bartender was also incredibly nice and made some perfect cocktails.

What a unique place. Jonathon was phenomenal and came in with a great recommendation. Did the smash burger. Flavor was spot on from first bite. Got some ranch for my crispy hot fries and surprised that it seemed homemade. To top it off what a neat location. The atmosphere was so unique and welcoming. Def recommend!

I had a great time at the news room. My daughter had the chicken wings and I had brussel Side and shrimp 🍤 Alfredo. Then I paired it with a Social dilemma beer. Really long name. Maybe I notes it some where. It went great with the flow of the flavors. I wish I got dessert to go. I forgot that part of my ideas.

Had a fabulous first time. For seated right away. The drinks we ordered came quickly and tasted amazing! We started with the croquettes they were so flavorful! My husband had a specialty burger. I got the tortellini it was absolutely one of the best tortellini's I've had in a long time. Thank you so much News Room for a wonderful night out! 10/10 give this place a shot

Located on the corner across from The Dakota, The News Room is a convenient, upscale restaurant offering American food and casual dining. While the salads, sandwiches, kinds of pasta, and entrées are excellent, the appetizers are so good that I prefer ordering several and making it my meal. The appetizers are very sharable. Their Brie cheese curds are amazing, and the flatbread crust is awesome. True to their ship theme, the seafood is excellent. I highly recommend the ahi tuna and salmon. The ambiance is unique and a fun experience. We like how the menu refreshes each season, and the daily specials are a fun way to try new entrees. Clearly, the place is reminiscent of the building’s early newspaper days. This newspaper theme is carried throughout; it’s fascinating to take the time to read and observe. While it is a bit pricy, the décor and food are exceptional. It’s nice that they have separate menus for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They offer many unique beverages, and I’d say that anything that aligns with your flavors is well worth trying. Oddly, their website isn’t secure, and they still use Flash, so I typically skip seeing the menu ahead of time. The booths have high backs that make conversing a bit easier as the music can be loud. They do both dine-in and takeout but not deliveries. Parking is much like for any other business in downtown Minneapolis. Metered Street Parking is available. Bring a fresh newspaper to read (I still love the experience); you’ll feel right at home! Lovely outdoor patio seating during warmer months.

I wish I could give this place 5 🌟 across the board, we were in Thanksgiving night prior to the vikings game, which might have been the issue. We had a party of 11, but had some of the worst service I've ever had. I dislike bagging on wait staff as I've done, as has my wife, but I felt I was playing hide and go seek with the server. Once we got past the "flag her down" phase to the "do you think she was just doing our drinks?" I finally started asking other staff to help the table of people I organized to attend the venue. Which is fairly embarrassing. Now that that's done with. The food quality for price point is freaking great! The steak I had was second to only one other place in Minneapolis and that's saying something. The Brie cheese curds were a big hit. The BBQ chicken flat bread was fabulous, and everyone who had the Thanksgiving preset meal loved it. Especially the pumpkin cheesecake.

Very creative theme. Enjoyed the experience and atmosphere. Would definitely recommend and visit again.

Upon walking inside, the first thing that catches your eye are the old newspaper headlines adorning the walls. Next comes the wonderfully created vintage sail ship that hovers above the bar, carrying bottles of liquor. T.V. screens are scattered about showing different sports games. I would have preferred a variety of news programs on the T.V. screens...just to keep in theme of its namesake. We started with the Brie Curds. Light tempura coating with melted Brie inside and accompanied with a warm blueberry sauce...totally worth the trip just by itself. My wife ordered the Almond Chicken Salad. Very flavorful with a light hint of citrus in the dressing. We both found the dish very pleasing. I decided to try the Manhattan Barrel Aged Gnocchi. Upon the first bite, my eyes rolled back and I was in heaven. The thinly sliced steak was perfectly cooked to medium-rare. The Gnocchi was perfect, with a coating of pepper over it. My wife isn't too keen on pepper, but I absolutely loved it. I finished my dish, and my wife's dish, and decided we need to come back and try some of the other menu items. Looking forward to our next visit.

Went with a large group because we were in town for a volleyball tournament. Great service and excellent food. Everyone enjoyed what they ordered. Even with 25 or so of us, the food came out hot and fresh. Definitely recommend The News Room.

Good meal but SHADY practices. Meal itself was excellent - everything was cooked very well and had great flavor. The issue however was with the billing/pricing. We inquired about subbing out the potato side with the meal for rice. The waitress told us she couldn't for the rice, but specifically said we could for any of the sides listed at the bottom (broccolini asparagus, brussel sprouts, country potato, mac/cheese, mashed). So I asked for the broccolini instead of the mashed potatoes, and another person asked for the asparagus instead of the country potatoes. We also ordered a full side of the brussel sprouts to share with the table. All was good until we received our bill and noticed that we were charged an additional $8 for the brocollini and $9 for the asparagus. We inquired about it with our server who told us there was nothing she could do except visit with the manager. The manager told us that the server should not have told us that. Even after we pointed out to the manager that the price of the potatoes we had subbed out were almost identical to the vegetables, and also pointed out that they come on the plate and not separate as the brussel sprouts did, he said he was sorry, but only that she shouldn't have said that. He did not offer to remedy the situation at all. After we persisted in expressing our dissatisfaction with her/they for overcharging us, he reluctantly offered to take off the one dessert (which was only 6.95). At which we point politely declined his offer as he was trying to justify a $17 charge with a $7 offset - which on a $250 bill just didn't make sense to us...especially as we felt the server had done it intentionally to pad the bill and subsequently her tip. Sadly after we complained, our server did not come back to the table nor acknowledge, thank us or even look our way again even though she walked by our table numerous times as we finished our meal. We were extremely disappointed in this - turned what should have been a stellar experience into a questionable one. We have eaten at the newsroom many times but this may have been our last. The worst part was the service after we questioned it... I also reached out to them regarding this via Open Table, however failed to hear back after almost 3 weeks... but frankly based on our experience, that doesn't surprise me.

We sat on the patio and enjoyed a great afternoon drink and appetizers! Our server was fantastic - she was personable and funny and had good recommendations. The food was great; we especially liked the duck wings and the cheese board had some good selections. They also have a nice selection of craft brews and wines. We will definitely return!
