I'm a coffee cynosure. I've been to plenty of cities and I have yet to find a cup of coffee that is as good as a Hawthorne pour over. The venue has a raw Midwestern feel, and the friendly baristas are all adept at describing the sources and flavor profiles of the beans. This place has soul and I dread the day it becomes popularized by a travel magazine.
This is an exceptional place that puts time and care in every cup they serve. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. There is a wonderful sense of community between this business and it's clientele. It is a great asset to the neighborhood.
Iron Grate is one of my favorite restaurants to go to for BBQ. I used to love their hot links, but they changed the recipe about a year ago. They do not taste the same.
My go to order is usually the pork belly burnt ends, grits and greens. My husband likes the rib tips and the mac and cheese. We are not a fan of their baked beans though. They are a little bitter to me.
The combo is really great way to taste a few items from the menu.
The housemade drinks are very good. Four cocktails for $40 is a deal. The Pitmaster Punch is my favorite!
Update: The drinks are no longer available, issues with plastic jugs.
After one bite I texted my friends who live in the area saying, “We must come here!” I got the starter, the brisket and curds and a a corn bread muffin👌🏽👏🏽. There is inside and outside seating. Both have a great atmosphere and seating options. There is a nice sized parking lot as well as easy access street parking. The staff and costumers are super friendly. It feels like a family vibe. Enjoy eating here alone or with friends.
Amazing food. Guy working the counter mentioned how good the grits are. He was NOT lying. Best I've ever had and I'm from the South. Well worth the money.
Surprisingly good BBQ (shame on you for NO brisket burnt ends) , variety of items for people to choose from. The lemon aid is very overpowering and for what portions are given, the price is way too high. We chose to share two meals between for four of us.
Guessing from the size of the eating area, they do not have people stay long, or just don’t have a large volume of customers that stay.
I did like how the place was decorated and the variety of grills outside. They must do cooking for groups at their own location or take them to competitions.
If I’m ever around the area, I’ll stop by here again.
Outstanding! I'm going to say this is the best BBQ restaurant I have ever been to. We had a three meat platter with Milwaukee ribs, brisket, and sausage. Our sides were the grits, mac and cheese, and Cole slaw. Everything tasted amazing the brisket and grits were our favorites. I would highly recommend this place. Can't say enough great things about it.

Great food, I always like jazz in the background while I'm eating American made BBQ food. Fam liked it, seating could do better but the atmosphere was fantastic
All I can say is everything was so delicious. Ordered two of the 2 meats, 3 sides combo. Perfect amount of food for 4. The ribs weren't totally what we were expecting but the pork belly was still attached which made the ribs juicy, soft and crispy. Didn't even need BBQ sauce. We tried all the sides and the beans and grits are AMAZING. Smoky and vinagery BBQ right in my backyard
BBQ heaven in MKE! We got the 4 meats and 4 sides, brisket, pulled pork, hot links and spicy country spare ribs, beans, grits, mac n cheese, coleslaw and a side of hushpuppies. I finally know what good brisket tastes like from a proper offset smoker. The pulled pork was moist, the hot links tasted great but the star for us were the spicy spare ribs. I've never had grits like this, they're like corn mashed potatoes, amazing. The dining room is open again and it's going to be a regular stop now. Leftovers even tasted great the next day at work. Oh and the pickles... THE PICKLES! I need to find out if they sell those by the jar when we return this weekend for more bbq. The hushpuppies are incredible and like crispy delicate balls from fryer heaven. Stop reading the reviews and just go find out for yourself.
Great service very informative staff. The milwaukee rib is to die for. FATTY crispy meaty and tasty. We did 3 meats 3 sides 1 cornbread and a couple beers and a lemonade. If you like saucy BBQ this isn't your spot, if you love flavor and smoke and quality meat this is your spot. Sides were great grits, Mac and cheese and greens. Try the milwaukee rib it made me smile when I bit into it. We felt the pricing was great for a full meal beer and leftovers for 2.
Had a bbq pork sandwich with bbbeans and the little jug of sweet sun tea was cool.It was delisssh. Sat outside on a beautiful July day. Smell of the smokers and watching them load and unload their smokers. Iron Grate was just opening so the wait was not long. 20 min tops. The pork was not overly Smokey. Sum places you eat theirs and the smoke burns your mouth(like jerkydoes). The price was alittle high but the Iron Grate is the only true bbq joint on this side of town. Ya the other one is good but not the true taste. I say bring your cowboy hat and your little philly and drink(they got booze to)and eat to your hearts content. Ask them where their bumper stickers are?? Lol.
