Review The Fitz - Milwaukee

Rick Noll
This was our first visit to the Ambassador Hotel home of The Fitz and Gin Rickey. This restaurant and partner bar was a wonderful experience and a beautiful venue. Dedicated to F. Scott Fitzgerald. The night started with a couple cocktails in the pre-prohibition themed bar Gin Rickey. A great selection of wines and signature cocktails. I had a Sazerac and their signature Manhattan both were outstanding. We also had a flatbread since it was happy hour, very food and the bar staff is both very knowledgable and excellent at their craft. Next, we went into the restaurant to have dinner. My wife had the Scallops and I had the Short Rib entree. Both were excellent and again our server was first class. They treated us with some champagne for our celebration. The entire staff also gave us some history of this wonderful hotel. We look forward to going back.

Ordered Starter cheesecurds pepper jelly, jelly was great but the cheese curds very bland. Great moscato, burger and fries. Ordered dessert made other guest jealous which is my favorite reaction.

Went on a Saturday afternoon. Bar was quiet, but picked up a bit as we were finishing our food. Our bartender Allie took care of us and made sure we had everything we needed. She was very kind and welcoming. We both had burgers and they were fantastic! Perfectly cooked and very well seasoned. Didn’t take very long to come out either. All in all a wonderful spot we did not know existed. Definitely will be back!

Had a great Valentine's day dinner with a Hemingway Daiquiri to top it off!

High class food at at reasonable prices. Everyone raved about they're respective dishes. I had the short rib flat bread, which was fantastic, if a little heavy on the cheese. I stole a couple fries that were some of the tastiest I've ever had. Service was very professional- I get the feeling we were more rambunctious than they are used to. Tuna salad was fantastic but the pea shoots were difficult to eat. Short rib grilled cheese also got excellent reviews from my table. Everyone was happy with their drinks. I found the Hemingway daquiri a bit unbalanced, but others thought it was great the way it was.

This place is fantastic! My wife and I met our nephew here for dinner. He was at the Rave as part of a tour support team, so the location was ideal. That was our main reason for choosing The Fitz. Little did we know that our meal would be phenomenal; way beyond our expectations. We had: short rib poutine for our app; a shared brussel sprout salad; entrees of butternut ravioli, short rib, scallops; pumpkin cheesecake and panna cotta for dessert - all of it declared unanimously delicious. The prices seem appropriate and the service was better than most. As my wife noted, the decor is bit of a throwback... but in a good way from my perspective. It was a very pleasant and pleasing dining experience.

If you are looking for someplace nice to eat or have a cocktail while visiting in Milwaukee, I'd highly recommend this place! The menu is unique for Milwaukee and the quality of the food is amazing! Friendly staff in a cute boutique hotel loaded with Milwaukee History.

Great food at fair prices. I highly recommend the cheese curd appetizer and the pumpkin cheesecake. The staff is nice and the ambiance is really neat because of the hotel that it’s in. Definitely will eat here again some time.

Wow, what a great addition to the Milwaukee food scene and the Ambassador Hotel! I come to Milwaukee on business from a major "foodie" city, and I have stayed at the Ambassador before. This restaurant will keep me coming back to this hotel! I had the corn chowder with crab, avocado and lime, and it was outstanding, as was the crudo.

A neat place that serves good food and great cocktails, all in an atmosphere I presume was common 100 years ago. Lovely staff as well. Definitely a positive experience. If you’re considering it, you should try it.

How can I have lived in Milwaukee for 3 summers, have gone to the Summerfest grounds and the Art museum plenty of times, and not known this was here??? We're lucky in Milwaukee to have so many parks. This weekend was not quite as nice as last weekend, when I also took a walk by the lake near the marina. This weekend I was at Lakeshore State Park for an event, to release sturgeon into the lake.

We happened in looking for a decent meal rather than fast food before a concert. Pleasantly surprised at the high quality dining experience we found! Everything on the dinner menu looked amazing and my only regret would be that we didn't have more than the two of us in our party so I could have tried it all. From the amuse bouche and stellar cocktails, to the heirloom tomato soup, shrimp cocktail and the porterhouse and scallops entrees...everything was superb! Our waiter, John, was informative and attentive. We will definitely return soon. Coming from Chicago we will need to find an excuse to travel up, if only to dine at The Fitz again! Thank you.

I really wanted to like it, but alas...no. We have been coming to stay at The Ambassador Hotel for 12 years now, so we were quite familiar with The Envoy, and Envoy lounge. The new menu just misses the mark in my opinion. While the actual face lift to both locations is welcomed, the menu is trying way too hard. We had brunch. High points: The Cinnamon roll, I thought it was delicious and loved the citrus/cream component. The other half of the table (there were 6 of us) were on the fence. Patty melt was great, per my Aunt, as well as the eggs Benedict. The coffee was also spot on. The low points: Three of us ordered the biscuit and gravy...some loved the biscuit but the garlic was overpowering and chicken sausage just didn't work. I had to send my scrambled eggs back (my sister is a foodie and my aunt a culinary instructor, both agreed that they were too under deeming them inedible). My replacement eggs, however were lovely. The corn pancakes were good, but resembled buttermilk more than corn. Aside from the kernels, there was no corn flavor. The thyme butter was divine as was the compote. Will be coming back to stay at the hotel, but not to dine.

Everything about this restaurant is top-notch. The service, presentation, menu, cocktails, appetizers and entrees and desserts were ALL first-rate. Chef Jason has created a marvelous, intriguing menu of classic dishes, prepared with a new-world twist. Bravo and congrats to all....I'll definitely be back!

The food was amazing. Some very intense flavors that all worked very well with each other. The Rumaki app, scallops and duck entrees were all great. The trio of mini cupcakes they surprised me with for my birthday were some of the best I've ever had. They did a great job re-decorating the space as well and our waiter, John, was just the right amount of attentive.

What a lovely place! So many of the original art deco parts of the building have been restored and the rest of the place has been beautifully designed to fit right in. We were part of an event and they took good care of our group. The restaurant, bar and coffee shop are super cute. I've had Sunday brunch in the restaurant before and it was amazing.

Really great dining experience. Went out for my mom's birthday and they went out of their way to make sure she had a exceptional dining experience. Food was top notch, service was attentive and pleasant. Can't wait to go back. Also the dessert might have been the highlight of the whole meal and that says alot! They should sell those cakes whole to take home!
