Review Mcbob's Pub And Grill - Milwaukee

Great place for a meal. Had a lemon drop martini and the sandwich of the month-deep fried pork chop sandwich with the works-the works included bacon. Did not know that pork chops came this thick and delicious. Gonna run back this month for another sandwich. The sandwich included some thick and tasty fries.

Food was good, but the service was very slow. Looks like they are way understaffed. It took almost an hour to receive our order and it wasn’t busy. Looks like they have a lot of takeout orders. Corned beef is very good and so are the fries. They also add an automatic 18% to the bill. I don’t blame the waitress she was hustling.

Wish I could have ordered online to save on the wait time!! Anyhow, the food was delicious 🫡

Excellent, unpretentious, good-vibes experience. Our waitress, Stephanie, was super friendly and spot on for service. Place is old school so don't expect to be fawned over. We enjoyed the blues wafting through the joint and the staff was friendly and attentive. Bloodies were excellent and there is Guinness on tap. Mixed crowd was refreshing and felt like home. Then there was the food - I had the stuffed ruben hashbrowns, she had the McBob's benedict. They were both fantastic and hearty. A little steep on the price but postCOVID's gotta be tough on a place so we were not averse to paying a bit more. Would recommend this place for down-home friendly atmosphere and quality of food - beer selection is Irish-leaning and wonderful.

Came for fish fry yet half our table got corned beef. As others have said the corned beef was salty but tasty. We tried both the perch and walleye fish fry and liked the perch better between the two. I still think cod is better, but they didn't offer that. Portions were large. Service friendly but it took a long time to get our food and it seemed for a long time that nobody in the restaurant was getting food. Probably won't be back not because it was bad, but have preferred other places more. thanks Bob!

First visit here. I ordered steak Taco. It was more like a burrito. I didn't ask for anything extra. I wanted to see if I would like it just as it was. I do feel it was pretty pricey. For 2 steak tacos it was 23 bucks. It was filling. I did enjoy the taste of it. I cam say that I would come again and try something else.

McBob's is one of a kind establishment ! They have a long standing history of serving up some very delicious food. On this visit we ordered the ,Ruben and the Irish meatloaf dinner. Both meals were exceptional ; and the servers were awesome ! There are flat screens to enjoy the games .As with everything nowadays the prices are up but still a good value .

This was an amazing experience overall and I will definitely be going back. After walking out of crafty cow ( a few blocks west) for very poor service, I found myself hungry with no idea what I wanted. A quick google search brought me straight to McBobs. I spoke with the soon to be owner and I have nothing but respect for his hilariously, vibrant personality. Great environment. Great service. The food had my jaw on the floor. ( I recommend the Nashville hot chicken sandwich). To conclude, I want to say thank you to crafty cow for presenting an absolute mockery of “service”, if it weren’t for them I wouldn’t have indulged in such a pleasant experience at McBobs.

Service was amazing! Everyone was very nice and very helpful! Took the shuttle to the Brewers game too. I will definitely return. Great food and outstanding menu for a bar/Pub!

St. Patrick’s day is another one of those holidays where Americans pretend to be anything but American and fortify long-lived stereotypes in the name of cultural heritage, but it has its perks. One, I look good in green. Two, I won’t turn down an excuse to practice the art of pouring a Guinness. And three, though it is falsely associated with Irish cuisine, I’ve been itching to try the award-winning Reuben at McBob’s Irish Pub & Grill. It was a solid five minutes between my first bite of this bad boy and the moment the euphoric silence was broken between me and my friend: “I have no words to describe the beauty of corned beef,” I say. Michael looked at me, then down to his mostly devoured sandwich, then back at me. “Corned beef is just brisket doing a spot-on impression of ham.” I’ve never heard a truer statement in my life. I don’t know how it's done, but I’m eternally grateful that McBob’s does. They pair it with Swiss cheese, horseradish mustard (no Russian dressing needed here), and the classic Milwaukee-mastered Sauerkraut that could make any unbeliever convert, all piled on artfully toasted marbled rye bread, resulting in a texture so magical the initial bite felt like a journey in slow motion. The rye bread had a crunch more satisfying than a step onto freshly packed snow, and, though it was enriched by the flavors of butter, it wasn’t sickeningly drenched like other Wisconsin sandwich staples. This was the threshold into ingredients that contrasted the crunch with a creamy personality of tender beef and all the good things a moderate amount of oils and acids have to offer. Let’s be clear: this is the best damn Reuben I’ve ever had. But if I had one complaint born purely of personal preference, it’s the imbalance between meat and tang. Whether it’s mustard or pickles or peppers or some other outlet for vinegar, a great sandwich needs a punch of acid. In the case of McBob’s Reuben, it’s the brilliant dual power of sauerkraut and mustard (try reading those words again without instinctively salivating), but if they want to breach perfection, cut that beef back 20% and fill those gaps with tang. Needless to say, I highly recommend this experience. A poorly lit Irish pub crowded with afternoon drunks in a questionable neighborhood while seated at an uneven table delicately balancing two full pints of Guinness is the undisputed champion of settings for shoveling corned beef into your face. There is no judgment; only meaty maniacal pleasure.

Large potions, delicious food, great service. Definitely worth visiting more than once. Come hungry, you will need the extra space.

It's the only place hubby and I go to eat on the rare occasion that we get alone time to enjoy a meal out. Celebrated hubby's birthday there for lunch today and it was fabulous as always! Friendly staff, the best food!

The food is incredible and the drinks on point, truly one of the best pub/restaurants in the city!

This place is a staple in Milwaukee! I was here once before and tried their buffalo chicken wrap, it was so good. The corned beef burger had just been announced, and my boyfriend and I decided to stop in and try it for lunch... SOOO GOOD! Our male server was very friendly and attentive, and a Black-and-tan was the perfect beer to accompany our sandwich! <3

It's always a treat to visit Mcbob's....the very best...of the best corned beef....and of course the knowledgeable friendly staff. Love the wide variety of choices....thank You McBobs!

Their Reuben sandwiches used to be much better. First they forgot the kraut, then they put on cold, raw kraut. They served us water with white stuff floating around in the glass. It didn't feel like a sandwich from an Irish pub. The waitress didn't even offer anything in return for the lousy food.

Went for late lunch I had corn beef n my bff has mealoaf sandwich. The spinach was best I’ve ever had. As always excellent music, service, and food to feed your soul ❤️

Visited prior to a Cubs/Brewers game in enemy (Cubs) regalia. A few gentle barbs were exchanged but still felt very welcome. Fantastic service and corned beef hash to die for.
Jason Scherr
Been there two weeks in a row for breakfast. Corned beef hash was awesome. The scones are to die for. I've read reviews complaining about service, but ours was always average or above.

We had lunch here. I've never had better corned beef and this is a veteran of Lombard Street's Corned Beef Row in Baltimore talking. Carolyn found out what her Cahill family crest was (a grey whale in a blue sea). This place was recommended to us by a couple who were professional musicians from Milwaukee. We met them when they gave us a lift from the Mississippi ferry landing just north of Ste. Genevieve the morning of the eclipse. They were lit and so is McBob's- it's awesome!
Judie Nelson
We heard they had the best corned beef hash - they did not disappoint!! Excellent food and super friendly service!! We definitely will return again another day!!

Great food, great service and worth the drive! We will be regular customers from now on!

First time there yesterday and best corned beef.....ever! Can't wait to go back no matter what the selection as clearly they care about what they serve to their customers.

Best breakfast in town hands down. I come here every year for st Patty’s day too. Their Rueben’s are the best and the atmosphere is very welcoming

Perch fish fry might be the best I’ve ever had. I have had a lot of fish over the years in Milwaukee, this one is at the top! Great atmosphere- love coming here. Definitely feels like home here!

This was a good experience. Great atmosphere good place to meet friends for drinks. I sat at the bar and had drinks with a friend. Service was good

Great Quality but one has to be patient with waiting. Not enough staff for busy times. Wonderful Ruebens and anything corned beef- melts in your mouth!
Astar Herndon
Awesome corn been sandwich with great portion sizes. They are also one of the few bars in Milwaukee to sale turkey burgers. Great venue to watch the big game or just to hang out.

Whenever I'm back in Milwaukee there are a few musts. Number one must--a REUBEN at McBobs! Never fails to hit the spot for tender, perfectly seasoned, well-blended sandwhich with a cold tap beer.
If you enjoy finding the great deal at your favorite shop, or you coin the catchiest come-back at just the right moment, you'll be in this moment when you discover yourself amazed at any of McBobs menu items. You'll wonder, "Now, why haven't I been here yet?" And Viloa! you've arrived.

Love the Corn Beef. I was craving for a corn beef sandwich in which I didn't have to make. I ask my husband to go to another local restaurant. He said, no I heard about this spot called McBob"s Grill and I think you would like them better. He went and I was hooked. The meat was so tender and delicious, and melted in my mouth. Just the right flavors, bread wasn't soggy or over ran with butter. I liked my sandwich grilled. There was plenty of meat. It took me two setting at home to eat the whole sandwich. If that sandwich is the greatest thing I have tasted in a long time then I'm sure all their other items of food is just as great. I can't wait till my next sandwich. I hope they never change anything about the way they cook their food. With all that said, they have a customer for life. Thank-you McBob! SanMarie.

Listened to the local hype and tried a corned beef sandwich at this place. It was terrible. The "corned beef" tasted like plain boiled beef and was tough. Won't try again.

The Corned Beef is Cooked in Plastic carsynogenic bags. The meat taste like plastic.. My problem is with the corned beef. I have eaten corned beef that tastes fresh and delicious. This is not it. It taste like it was cooked in a plastic bag for over 10 hours. The Plastic penetrates the meat and makes it have a odd flavor. Not the best place for the amount of food they produce in that kitchen that is smaller than my bathroom.

For the amount of business this place does you would think they could clean up their disgusting basement where they keep all of the food, and do something about their tiny kitchen like add on to the kitchen to support a better way to cook the corned beef instead of the plastic bags the food comes in from the butcher. Once your Alto Shams become grease catchers your really just spreading disease. You would think they would take the meat out of the plastic bags but they don't. I will Never eat the meat at this place ever again. I have had enough cancer causing Bisphenol which is used in plastics called polycarbonate. But Mc Bob actually cook the food at 350 degrees in plastic bags that leach this toxic chemical into your food.

Sorry but I just can't do that anymore.

REUBEN!. Best reuben I've ever had..... period.

They do corned beef well if you want a beer with it. Otherwise, hit Jake's Deli just down the road on 16th and North.

Rueben Sandwich was out of this world!!. Let me start out by saying I hate Rueben sandwiches and yes hate is the right word. I have tried them several times over the years and either I didn't like the meat or sauerkraut or both. McBob's is a different story. My mother and I visited this restaurant for the first time this past Friday. I ordered the fish platter and she had the Rueben. What a mistake on my part. My fish platter was excellent. It was fried perfectly and the breading was just the right amount. The potato pancakes were excellent also. The only thing I didn't care for was the coleslaw. It has a funny strong aftertaste. I would rate the fish platter a 9.5 out of 10. Now on to the Rueben, my Mom wanted a piece of my fish to try and she offered me a piece of her Rueben sandwich. I told her to just give me a very small piece as I hate Ruebens. My first response was WOW! This is like nothing I have ever had before. By the time it was over with I ate almost half of her sandwich. This is what I noticed about the Rueben. First, the flavor of the meat was perfect without being too strong. With other Ruebens I have had there has been an over the top flavor to the meat that is too strong. Second the sauerkraut complemented the meat but did not stand out. That was always another complaint I had about other Ruebens. You would take a bite and get this strong after taste of the bitter sauerkraut. This was by no means the case with McBob's. I would rate the Rueben a 12 out of 10. Just a few other notes, it is a bar. The place is clean, but you are still in a bar so you have the noise and atmosphere of a bar. Lastly, I live in Indiana and visit Milwaukee a few times a year. This was the first time I did my homework on restaurants and I just want to thank all the people who take time to do reviews. It makes it so easy to find these hidden gems and helps you to avoid places where they don’t really care about their food.

Not very friendly when you call in a pick up order.

Love McBob's!. We love brunch at McBob's, but will gladly go back for dinner. The quality of food, the amount of food that you get for your $, really can't be beat. We enjoy the wait staff and how everyone makes you feel welcome. It is an out of the way little spot, but well worth the trip. The corned beef is the best in the City and the soda bread is as authentic as I have ever had it. I had their Chili at a WMSE cook off a year ago and it burned the taste buds in my mouth, but it hurt me so good! Try the Tacos, yes, you heard me right, the tacos (at an Scots Irish Pub), they are stellar. If you are going for brunch have the McGinnity. Yum!

McBob's have two of the best rueben and pastrami sandwiches in town! They also have Fantastic burgers!!! This small off the beaten path Irish Pub ain't for the calorie conscious... Slainte!!

Very happy with the corned beef and the service. I will go back. It has a nice neighborhood feel.

We found McBob's through urban spoon while just driving through and we were SO happy we did! Their Corned Beef was worth the entire trip, Guinness poured perfectly and such a great atmosphere!

Great Pub food!. Great pub food, the corned beef is lean and tender. Very reasonably priced, we ordered two appetizers because we thought because of the price of the taco dip it would be a small portion, however it was a huge bowl full. Don't be intimidated by the neighborhood, it is very comfortable inside. Also I noticed an older review that mentioned they do not take credit cards, I was there tonight and they did accept them.

A Milwaukee staple of restaurants to try. Try the brunch it rocks

The corned beef is so delicious! (They are also at Irish Fest every year.)

Yum. Best Corned Beef in Milwaukee!

Good pub food. McBob's has great corned beef and good apps/soups/chili. Your hands will be greasy, you may have to wait for a table, your service may be poor, they only take cash - etc., etc., etc. It's a pub with good food - know what you're going in for and you'll be happy with what you get.

Good non-diet food. If you want great Milwaukee pub grub, this is the place. The fish fry is wonderful. Every bite reminds me of why I love this town. The McBob's Reuben has to be one of the best in Milwaukee.

One trivia note - the McBob's kitchen is one of the cleanest in the city, according to the Health Department. So much so that students from the Mt Mary College's Dietetics Program regularly tour the place. If you eat at McBob's you will get fat, but you won't get sick.
Road Tips
The corned beef was as good as advertised, the soup was delicious, and while the service (I thought) was a little sub par, it was fully understandable as the waiter was a busy guy with a lot of people coming into McBob's to get food. As a place to hang out and have a beer with friends, McBob's would be a great place to do so. But the food is what makes the place unique. And even though he is no longer with us, the spirit of Bob Rubner lives on at McBob's.

In addition to having the best corned beef and reuben sandwiches in all of Milwaukee McBob's Pub and Grill also serves up a pretty amazing brunch. I've probably eaten breakfast there five or six times and a majority of those times I've ordered The McGinnity, which is three eggs over a bed of homemade corned beef hash with a side of American fries or hash browns. On my most recent brunch visit however one of the specials was the Tenderloin Eggs Benedict. While similar to your typical eggs Benedict there is one major difference in that with this dish instead of the eggs topping an English muffin they top a delicious eight ounce tenderloin steak. In addition to the hollandaise sauce this particular eggs Benedict had blue cheese crumbles sprinkled over it as well. If you're planning on stopping at McBob's for brunch make sure that you give yourself a decent amount of time because it can get pretty crowded and the service can be a little slow at times, but if you aren't in a hurry the wait

Baseball season and summer is around the corner and that means a few trips to Milwaukee are in store for us Cubs fans. I've made no attempt at hiding my hatred for the Packers but that's about where it ends in my hate for the great state of Wisconsin. Dur
