Flavor: B Service: B Drinks: B Solo dining: A A hole-in-the-wall-looking bar that’s quite the modern eatery inside. My brat wasn’t anything super special but I did think the potato balls were great. There are only Pepsi products but they did have a good special on Makers. This was a good find for a true Milwaukee lunch.

I love Vanguard! Every time we come here, the food is consistently great! We a brought another couple along with us and pretty much ordered majority of the homemade sausages they have. First of all, there selection of beers on tap is wonderful. Not many places have Three Floyd's Zombie Dust on tap But they have a killer whiskey collection. Everything from bourbons to great Japanese whiskeys. The true winners in my opinion was the Killer Khan and the Thai Breaker. Both were awesome. Their chili-cheese fries are just nuts and have a wonderful pretzel. I try to come back as often as I can when we come up to Milwaukee. Thank you for being consistently great!

Delicious food at very reasonable prices. This was my first stop after coming home from the airport and it did not disappoint. Loved all the unique sausage options. Cheese curds were great. Great service too from the bartender.

We stopped in here to grab a drink while waiting for our table at Hungry Sumo next door. After glancing at the menu, my husband suggested we go back to The Vanguard to try some of their offerings since so much looked good. Still, this was a great place for our party of 6 to relax and start the evening. There are lots of options here, drinkwise, with a large assortment of beers. Since we weren't there to eat, we ordered our drinks at the bar. This is not a big space, but the long bar and larger tables make it a nice spot for groups.

Great little place with a nice back patio. Cheese curds were great. Lots of different sausages with some funky toppings. I got the cheddar jalapeno brat Pittsburgh style (fries, slaw, ranch)

so yummy!!! i got the wisconsin sausage because i wanted some cheese curds but was unprepared for how much cheese would be on it 😂😂😂😂 that’s on me, i should have followed the bartenders recommendations! everyone was so kind and helpful, the food came quickly and it was all so delicious

Great Meats and sausages. Unique pairings. Great for vegans and omnivores. Kudos for having Sprecher root beer available for those who donr drink alcohol but still enjoy something tasty! NEW! They recently added table service! So no more waiting to order in line and then ordering from the bar!

Great place to take visitors for its inventive and well-executed menu. There's something for just about everyone here and while the menu items are well-crafted and made with quality ingredients, the place doesn't take itself too seriously in a way that would detract from the general FUN of the atmosphere. Always a good place to visit. Loud but not deafening, vibrant but not obnoxious, occasionally hard to read the menu for the dimness but it's a part of the ambiance. Great place. It used to be that some of the sausages were so large that with toppings you almost had to unhinge your jaw like a snake to consume them, but they rolled back some of the sizing to a reasonable margin-- not enough to make you feel like you're getting cheated with less product, but enough to make the food item more holdable and eatable, the best of both worlds.

Pretty good variety of sausages with a large selection of toppings. Decent beer selection as well. Cool music, cool crowd, and a nice patio with picnic tables and string lights.

Very good, love all the vegetarian/vegan options. The service was really good as well. I ordered the vegetarian chili cheese dog, minus the cheese and it was REALLY good. Not an easy find. The cheese curds were awesome and the food was reasonably priced. The only downside to the whole visit were the seasoned fries. It was like a mouth full of seasoning and didn't blend well with the fries. We honestly couldn't even eat them with ketchup, but the rest of the food made up for it.

We live in Orlando, Florida. My brother recommended this place for some good sausage and beer. We just left this place and let me tell you. Olivia and the other bartender were awesome. The food was very good. Totally recommend this place and will definitely return when we’re in town.

Certainly not a White Table Cloth experience, in fact no table cloths ;> , very much a Bay View hipster type of experience: excellent food, attentive staff, average serving time. Would have given it 5 stars but, today (90's F) air conditioning was barely able to keep up. But I'd bet that was the case for most restaurants with an swinging door to the hipster beer garden.

Was there in winter. Had to eat with my coat on. Stand in line to order yourself and then get in another line to get a drink? No thanks. Not cheap as the self ordering should be with the money they save on staff with the self service and the food wasn't that great anyway. Too many other good places to go.

Drinks like the Vangard old fashion and Gobi sangria were excellent. The food the Durty burger, thai breaker sausage and the buffalo poutine YUMMO. This is a definite place to put on your list of places to stop in and enjoy. They do have an outdoor area to enjoy too. Service was great too. We will definitely be back.

It was my first time there. I had no idea that there really is no table service. Waited 20 minutes before a server came over and explained how things worked. Tried to order drinks, but then didn't have Malibu.... settled for water. Then waited another 20 minutes before food came. The food itself was meh. I drove by some great places for okay food. Won't be back.

The food was really good! The vibe was a little weird and what was on the TV creeped me out. I’d say 5 stars for the brats, 4.5 for the staff, 3 for the poutine (where was the gravy?!), and 3 for the vibe/atmosphere.

The food was amazing. I wasn't that hungry when I went, but ordered something anyway and immediately fell in love. (Ordered the Duck BLT) The server that was working was clearly in a bad mood and took trays without asking if we were done. That was the only thing that really peeved me. But the food was really good.

Stopped in from a quick road trip from St Louis. I would move to Milwaukee for these sausages. Had their house brat with hot kraut, Thai breaker, and a Nashville Hot Chicken. As a diehard Nashville Hot chicken fan, how they made these taste like our favorite hot chicken in sausage form is beyond me. A must try place!
