Avocado Cafe

Had their burrito with chicken today (Red oaxaca). Tasty but very little chicken, mostly rice. The menu in the restaurant says it’s $10.00. It rang up at $11 and they would not change it. They said that was what “the boss put in.” Could have had a huge hot chicken hero with chips at Taro’s down the street for less, and will next time.

ZERO STARS if I could… I called ahead of time to see if they were open on a Sunday and if we can dine in, the girl who worked there said yes. We get there 45 mins later, the “Open” sign was on and door was open, we were greeted by what look like to be the cook, we said hello back and sat down. I hear the cooking lady yelling in Spanish to someone in the back to come out. Someone finally comes out and it’s a young waitress who begins to talk discreetly to the cook. The waitress tells us “ sorry but we are closed” I told her I just spoke to someone here 45 mins ago and they said you’re open. She says they were closing early because of the rain. I just replied WOW… Didn’t offer us to at least order take out or anything… I’ve spent $50/$60 each time in the past. Needless to say they lost out on money and future customer… mom and pop businesses around here wonder why they barely make it….

Totally fulfilled my nacho craving, super generous toppings. Particularly great rice / salsas that came on the side of our order. I ate vegetarian tonight and was super satisfied, though the meat options smelled awesome when we walked in. Great small business and awesome food. Glad we stopped by to try out Avocado Cafe! To note, the online ordering said it wasn’t working so we gave a call to put the order in and they picked up right away. Pick up only right now given covid but there were a couple picnic tables outside.

My partner hails from southern California and after being out here for 4 years we finally found Mexican food that is authentic. The "spicy" food is actually spicy and delicious, the atmosphere is very down to earth and the prices are extremely reasonable for the amount of food you get. Say goodbye to bland Mexican restaurants that compensate for their gross food with too many decorations and go to the Avocado Cafe. Staff is wonderful, polite, and easy to talk to. Couldn't be happier that we stumbled across this gem.
