Review Tropical Beach Cafe - Miami Beach

Danielle Santiago
We were on vacation at a resort down the road from here. We tried all kinds of places but this by far way my ABSOLUTE favorite! 💯 I loved it so much I had to eat there twice and passed up other places! The first night we tried it we made it in 10 minutes before they closed since it was such short notice we just took our food back to the resort so that they wouldn't have to stay longer. The second time we tried it I wanted to make sure we got the full experience. We sat down had 2 waiters who were hands down amazing and made the experience worth it, very personable and joked around with us. I think I was embarrassing my company because the food was so delicious I was making all sorts of noises while eating ha ha! The younger gentleman was telling us how to cook some of the things, so I am for sure going to try my hand at the plantains! The older gentleman was making us laugh and was giggling at me for all my noises I was making. The restaurant itself was smaller but made it feel more intimate and had a home feel to it. The prices were the best I found and again for the food worth every penny, just saying if they could overnight food to me OMG I would eat there probably every other day. Thanks everyone at Tropical Beach hope to see you soon! P.S. If you ever open other places PLEASE come to Miami, OK 🙂

Best food at mid beach so far.. much more tastier than at the tavern.. portion size were huge also. It's a hole in a wall restaurant. A place where the locals come to eat. Get the fresh juice. 1 meal was enough for lunch and dinner.. was around 10-20 bucks per person per meal. Not sure if I was scammed with the secret gratuity 15% extra.. pretty sure we were.. but food was so good.. I did tip extra.. another 20%. But wouldn't for next time, as I thought the tip wasn't included.

Ate breakfast here 5 days out of the 7 days we were in town. Great food. Affordable. Great service. Stop in if you are close-by. Worth noting this is not just a breakfast place. They are open until 10pm. I have not tried any of their sandwiches, but they look good.

Loved the experience here. The waitresse messed up our order but plates are good and affordable. Will be back for breakfast

We tried a pork dish and a salad and the servings were huge…great value meals after trying upscale dishes elsewhere…some construction was going on, best to eat indoors…worth a try!..enjoy!!!….and uhhhmmm this review is for Tropical Beach Cafe….not to be confused with Tropicale Cafe in Editions Hotel

There’s a lot of food options on their menu—your typical breakfast dishes and some Cuban dishes. The portions are huge and prices are very reasonable. However, not impressed with the food. Beef empanada was okay, but the Pan Con Lechon sandwich was super dry and bland, especially the pork meat and bread. Food did come out fast and the service was fine.

Fantastic restaurant! We visited it twice during our stay in Midbeach. Generous portions and it was really good food. Restaurant is limited in seating, but definitely worth the wait.

The place is packed! That's why I waited! Staff was great and the food wonderful. Had lunch and then went back to grab a sandwich to take to the airport.

Delicious food, big portions and not expensive. Not cheap as is stated elsewhere here but not expensive. Had snapper and shrimp in a garlic cream sauce and it was to die for. The yellow rice and fried plantains on the side were also delicious. Very informal surroundings with very quick service.

Any place full of cops is most certainly 2 things. CHEAP AND GOOD! This place fits the bill on both accounts. <br/>Amazing Cuban food and very reasonably priced for Miami Beach. The snapper is delicious and very fresh. ( a little over ten bucks with two sides). Shrimp in garlic sauce was as good.... But a little more pricey. <br/>Authentic Cuban sandwich for 6 bucks. <br/>We also tried Cuban pastries ( kids went back for seconds. <br/>Family of 4 (two adults, kids 8 and 7 ate a lot more than we should have for a little more than $50.00. <br/>

This is an easy to find cafe. They served Cuban coffee and toast. The service was quick, the food was fine and the prices were good.<br/>It seemed like a lot of locals go here, and the place kept busy.

Great Breakfast!. The food and service was great, and we'd definitely go back! It was crowded, probably because it is popular, so it took a little long to get food. <br/><br/> My only comment is the check included the tip, labeling it "propina". Maybe not to others, but it was confusing to us. I felt bad because the way the clarification was communicated, the waitress seemed annoyed. I mostly blame myself for the mixup, but it should have been more clear that the total included a tip. The waitress was very good, and we did tip higher than the 15% charged, I still felt bad she was annoyed.<br/><br/>Overall, I highly recommend this place!

A Major Disappointment. This place was a major disappointment. After reading the reviews, I was hoping for a nice restaurant with decent food and reasonable prices; what I found was ok food, mixed service, and an $88.72 bill for 4 people. That's $22 per meal at a strip mall restaurant with plastic plates! <br/><br/>The service was mixed; two women served us; one was nice, and the other could care less. I was satisfied with the decent food, and the one good waitress, and was even going to convince my wife to come back for breakfast, but then the bill came, and I found all the hidden fees we never told about. <br/><br/>We ordered a seafood paella that was listed as $12.99 on the menu, but then we were charged $18.70, because it was a "special." I didn't order the special, I ordered the seafood paella listed on the menu.<br/><br/>I asked for two waters with no ice, and they give you bottles of water with no warning that they cost $1.50. I just wanted glasses of tap water, so I returned one bottle, as the other was already open. <br/><br/>They do have large portions, and we asked for two boxes to go, and they charged us for that too, without notice before we already put our food into the boxes. <br/><br/>And lastly, for any purchase over $10, they automatically include a 15% gratuity fee, listed in Spanish as "propina."<br/><br/>If they were more transparent about their prices, more honest, and made it clear to us that gratuity would be automatically included, I would have had fair warning, and would not have been upset and probably would have come again, but because of their lack of transparency and honesty, I'll never come back, and recommend no one else does either. <br/><br/>I felt like I paid 88 bucks for Taco Bell. Take your money somewhere nice instead.

Great food and service!!!

Amazing Cuban food and don't forget your appetite as the portions are huge! Lechon pork, yellow rice and plantains are a must! Service was pretty good too for as busy as the place stayed. Worth the walk from your hotel for a great Cuban meal.

My husband and I have no clue how this place got an 85!?! It was some of the worst food ever, I took 2 bites and couldn't take another! The service was also pretty bad too!

Great Cuban Food. A group of friends and I were staying at a hotel a few blocks away and wanted something to eat at a decent price. Urbanspoon came through again!<br/> We walked in to a tiny, but full, restaurant and waited for about 5 minutes for a table to open up. All but one of us went with a sandwich option, while that lone person of the group went with the fish special. Everything was phenomenal. The Cuban sandwich was the best I've had (I can only compare it to several options I've had in Atlanta). I had a variation of it (can't remember the name) that included a breaded and fried pork cutlet... delicious! Even the fish special was excellent; it was very fresh and full of flavor, and it didn't have a "fishy" smell to it at all. <br/>Overall, this place is a steal in the Miami area. Great quality food at very affordable prices. If I'm ever back in Miami, then I'll definitely be visiting Tropical Beach Cafe again.

The service was AWFUL. First we go there and they did not show any courtesy. It took to them 5 min to come to our table to get our order. While waiting for our drinks a guy and his girlfriend walked out of the restaurant telling us that he had waited for 45 min for his breakfast. They even changed him for the drinks. We waited 20 min for the drinks and they never showed up. We left...

Nice hole in the wall brunch or lunch excellent tamals at an un south beach price.

Are you kidding me?. In miami for the weekend and tried tropical based on urbanspoon! Ouch! Hard to ruin breakfast but omelet was just aweful! "Toast" was day old bread! Do not waist time! They padded the bill as well!

Great little hole in the wall. This place was a great find. Most bang for the buck in Miami Beach. I had the chorizo sandwich and was not let down. If you are in the area be sure to give it a try.

Sorry to find this cafe with only two days vacation remaining. Great food and coffee at a non south beach price !!

Nice Little restaurant .... Love the cozy cuban feel to it ..... Delicious

Good Food. Good Portions. Good Price.. This family-run little gem offers terrific breakfasts at a terrific price. The cafe con leche is to die for and the toasted Cuban bread that is served in place of 'toast' makes the Tropical Beach stand out among other diners in the area.

I totally love this place. The food was great, the staff was friendly, and it was cheap. Almost every morning we went here and had eggs, ham, and bread. We came for lunch and dinner a few times as well. I had a variety of cuban food ranging from a "cubano" (cuban sandwich) to ropa vieja (shredded beef). The yellow rice with the meats was good! Also in way of appetizers and side items we ate the Relleno de papa, empanaditas, maduros, and even a special cuban soda. Let's not forget the bread, I mentioned this before, but I'll mention it again. The bread was delicioso.. I really enjoyed coming here and I'm glad I discovered this place. Best of all most of our combined meals came in under $20 everytime! Even dinner. Now how's that for saving a nice

‘The Mother’s’ meal was SO much better and I had serious food envy! He ordered the chorizo toasted sandwich and it was divine! Toasted focaccia, it burst with flavours and I couldn’t help but keep asking for another bite. I am pretty sure I ate half of his sandwich… Whoops.
