Every time they close or I'm traveling I try and find Mexican food that's equal to El Charro sadly I have found it to be impossible. Since the death of Freddy the founder there has been some challenges, I'll deal with it to enjoy their delicious food. Thanks for serving us El Charro.

El Charro is the best Mexican food in Arizona. Anything else just disappoints. Even the tortillas are homemade, fresh, and have enough flavor to be a meal all on their own...they're addictive.

El Charro serves our favorite Mexican food in The Valley. We love going there. So many excellent dishes to choose from. They are always busy, because they have been making great Authentic Mexican food for 90 years! Drive by and if you see they are open, stop in. You won't regret it.

Grew up eating at El Charro. Love the green mix burro and the cheese crisp is awesome. We haven't found any other mexican food restaurant that comes close to El Charro food especially living in the southeast. Sure miss it!!!

El Charro is my go to Mexican restaurant. My family and I have been coming here for as long as I've been alive. This is our family tradition when we're all together in Mesa. Best food ever!

Been a loyal El Charro customer since my family moved from central Phoenix into Mesa in 1959. Amazingly consistent in execution; my favorite dishes taste virtually the same today as "back in the day", and the flour tortillas are what I think of as the "gold standard"; large, super-thin (like hand-stretched), and tender, never doughy. My personal time-machine... :)

I made my dad bring me an el charro burrito when I lived in Santiago, Chile....THAT is how good it is. My overall quality of life is much worse when they are closed for summers.

We have been eating at El Charro for about 35 years. We are never disappointed. Many of the staff have become familiar over the years and we have heard about children, grandchildren and weddings. Loved it all. The food is always perfect. No other restaurant compares.

I’ve been eating here since I was 5years old and the food has never changed. It’s the best in the valley and I’m so thankful that this restaurant is still in business. I’m so blessed that I was able to experience this amazing restaurant with my sons and grandchildren and they got to experience hearing from the owner Eva she’s known me and my parents since I was a little kid. The look on my grandkids faces was priceless. Please go and take your family and friends to El Charro.

I originally came here with my Father in the 70’s as a very young man. I’m from Pittsburgh so anytime I’m in the Phoenix area we stop here to eat. I’ve never had a bad meal. Traditional Mexican food and the service is always good 😊 and Delicious Margaritas.

Great to have good home style Mexican food for a change. We had not been there for years. Happy they reopened with a daughter now running things. Love the simple straight forward menu! It was great!

The waitress was fantastic. Can't remember her name. Excellent service. I only gave the food four stars because I ordered something I'd never had before. Wasn't sure what it was supposed to taste like. Been going there for years and will continue going

Some of the most amazing authentic Sonoran Mexican food. Located in homie downtown Mesa, it is a local staple almost a hundred years old. We both had the green chili Burros deep-fried with guacamole and sour cream. This is some of the best food with ever had. Clean Place. Excellent customer service and friendly servers. They earned all their points with us. Can't wait to go to the bar and try some more of the food! Feb 2022 - the bar is so quaint and retro. Brad the bartender was friendly and attentive. The burros were just as good if not better.

This place is COOL. I stopped in after I visited my barber to make me feel more handsome. I’ve been here one other time and this place absolutely rules. Very cool back bar that’s nice and dimly lit and has some comfy chairs. Free chips and salsa. Nice draft beer that’s not too carbonated and makes your head hurt. If those walls could talk I bet they’d share some stories. Not a real busy bar but the vibe of stuff here is really neat. If you’re ever out and about this place is cool. They have some pretty good food too in the front of the restaurant.

Came with my dad and my five-year-old, and we enjoyed our meal thoroughly. My dad ordered the enchilada meal, but upgraded it to beef, and he was very impressed. It wasn't shredded beef but rather tasty chunks of meat and he was very pleased. I got the El Charro Chicken (red) as a meal and it was perfect. My kiddo had the kids meal with a beef tamale, which was enjoyed...the macaroni salad was unexpected but very good! I liked the glass bottle sasparilla root beer they have! Service was nice and attentive, and checked in on us and made sure we were good. This is clearly one of those places that has been around forever, and the people in the area who know the place love it. I can certainly see why. It's a throwback to another era, in a great way. If you like TexMex food, skip the big chains and try El Charro!

Mario, our server was awesome! Food was ok. The tortilla on the crispy tacos could have been crisper. Beef sour cream enchiladas were good.

The food is still good here. I had enchiladas and a taco, while my wife had a chimichanga. She said hers was just OK. Otherwise, I was surprised by the high prices, but I guess I should not be- seems to be a lot of high prices now days.

Took a little while to get the food, but the service was impeccable. I had the senior taco dinner and it was excellent! Really fresh ingredients and very tasty.
