Review Backyard Taco - Mesa

Service has its moments, but mostly good. Place seems to be at times distracting to staff but nothing to worry about. you just have to repeat yourself a few times. Food is great. In the past, there was a chance to get meat that has been sitting for some time and loses its luster. But 90% of the time, the meat tastes hot and juicy. Occasionally, you might get that colder meat, but it's rare. These are not really negatives to avoid. Like most food joints, you take the good and bad and hope for the best. They have found what works best for them, and my stomach approves. Salsa bar is always a great place to load up. Now, if I can get them to make a new location a little more central, I won't have to drive 40min for my tacos 👍🏼. All in all a great place to eat, the University location is cozy with dine in and no drive thru and patio eating the Stanley Dr location feels more commercial but in a way of more seating and a drive through with patio seating. The 3rd location I don't frequent, but if, like the others, they are holding it down.

Great tacos, very generous servings. Chips and salsa excellent. Friendly staff with fast service.

This is one of the “Must Try” taco shops in the East Valley and I usually stop whenever I’m in the area. On this visit I went with 2 pollo & 2 asada tacos. The asada is the go-to but occasionally I’ll add something else to my order. I also really like the quesadillas and the “Papa Loca”. This location in central Mesa has a small inside & small outside dining area compared to the newer locations but is still my favorite! *Special Note - Closed Sundays*

I got a variety of tacos and each tasted incredible. They were all unique which speaks to the work they put into each of their flavors and meat preparations. I couldn't have been more impressed. They're a tad expensive but it's worth it and really hits the spot. Highly recommend!

Our experience at Backyard Taco was truly exceptional. The ambiance was fantastic, the food was extraordinary, and our server provided outstanding service. The flavors were perfectly balanced and unique, making these tacos stand out from the ordinary, a culinary masterpiece unlike anything I've ever tasted. Delicious and fast. Mostly like well-cooked meat, not too spicy, and THEN you add the spice level you want. Big portions. Nice patio to sit on.

Mazatlan born, the owners have done a good job of carrying on the delicious authentic flavors. Each item on the menu is prepared well. Fresh meats, fresh tortillas, freshly chopped condiments, etc. Orders taken and served with a smile. Good, fair prices as well.

Went here for a business lunch, food was great and fast. My only downside was the seating. Very limited indoor seating. If you're wanting to eat here and sit in AC, you are going to want to go before the lunch rush. Take out will be my go to here for lunch. No complaints on the food quality, it was great!

Got the carne asada burrito and it was delicious. The tacos Were really good. Get El Pastor tacos. Super good spot

Wow! I've been hanging around Mesa for almost a year where my fiancee lives. We decided to go out for dinner but not to make it too fancy or long of a wait. This place fit the bill. It was a little busy when we arrived but the lines moved quickly. The menu is sorry simple and I appreciate that. Don't need to be confused by a 1,000 item menu. She ordered chicken tacos and I ordered the steak gordita with chips and beans along with Mexican cokes. The food did not take too long considering how many orders they were fulfilling. The place had a larger staff that was very efficient. The food was delicious. It was just enough without making you feel bloated. This is an awesome place to enjoy a meal. We day outside and it was very pleasant.

Oooh boy go with the Al Pastor tacos. I will be back for them. Simple place and that isn't bad it is nice and comfortable. Plenty busy with steady traffic. This place is a solid recommendation.

First time at Backyard and I genuinely enjoyed it. Got a Birria taco on corn, chicken taco on flour, and some chips and beans. The Birria was top notch and the chicken had a good grill flavor to it. The chips were pretty cleanly fried and it was nice that they're not doused in salt. Overall, this is probably going to be my new go to taco spot. Stellar Horchata as well without loading the cup with ice, so top to bottom you're getting your money's worth.

This place was packed which is always a good sign when trying new places. I ordered 2 Al Pastor street tacos and a Carnesada burrito. The tacos we're good with a sweet flavor over the the pork and the carnesada was one of the best I've tasted in Arizona.

We are so glad we found this place! They have the best Birria Taco I have EVER had! We have taken 5 or 6 other couples there and they all raved about it! The food is always fresh, hot and delicious 😋. The salsa bar is clean and well stocked. The staff are pleasant, efficient, knowledgeable about menu items and very helpful. They explained what all of the different things on the menu were and made wonderful suggestions. I thought the prices were reasonable.

Best, tacos, ever! Great authentic Mexican tacos! Worth going out of your way just to stop at this little restaurant for some fresh made carne asada tacos! They also have an amazing salsa bar with anything from mild and flavorful, to some blazing hot salsa that makes you question all your life choices!
