Review Castle Restaurant - Memphis

Hidden gem!! Grabbed lunch with friend and our kids the other day. He has been here before but it was my first time, ever. And I was born and raised in this city. We had the hummus which was really good and I had a lamb gyros. It was fresh and a lot of it! Great value and a great, fresh alternative. Can’t wait to go again.

My girlfriend brought me here after she found this little hole in the wall. I'm not a Mediterranean expert or anything but the gyro was amazing! We came in pretty close to closing and they still served us. I don't know how she cooked that food so fast and got it so hot! I'll definitely be stopping by when I'm in the area for lunch!!!

Gyro sandwich is amazing! Perfect amount of meat and sauce (I don’t get the veggies). It’s always served very hot and fresh. The pita is soft. Absolutely amazing. Best gyro I’ve had in Memphis.

Visiting here from Huntsville,AL (originally from Chicago) and this gyro reminded of why I need to move back to Chicago! Very fresh gyro sandwich with cheese and sauce only. Paid $11 for sandwich only no sides or drink but hey don’t we all pay for the things we really want?

Excellent customer service! The Gyro was absolutely amazing, one of the best I’ve had. Fries were regular frozen fries, but were fresh and delicious. I also had the Eggplant dip, personally wasn’t a fan, the bread it was served with wasn’t fresh. But overall I’m pleased with this place, great value for the price and the staff is amazing!

I'm from the North so finding The Castle was an answer for my Greek prayers. It has a motherly feel when you walk in, small but in a cozy way. Once you get your food you know for a fact a mother is indeed cooking in the back. It's love all bundled up on a plate just for you. (Because you know you're my favorite, don't tell your brother. ) Kind of way.🥰

Chicken gyro, beef&lamb gyro, with the veggie combo appetizer. The lady working in the kitchen is absolutely a delight. Food is phenomenal! Always on point. If anyone has a million dollars to spare, the lady working there definitely deserves the break. Love this place

My husband heard about this place from a blog he follows due to Castle Restaurant's recent write up in the commercial appeal. I was a little skeptical when we first pulled up to the restaurant. Do NOT let the exterior of the building deter you! The food is exceptional! I had the gyro combo, and it was THE best gyro I've eaten to date. The fries, your run of the mill frozen type, were seasoned, not greasy, crispy, and so hot I couldn't bite into them at first. The service was good and the environment clean, cozy and friendly. My new go to for Mediterranean for sure! You get food fit for a queen at the Castle! 11/10

I know how bold this statement is, but this is definitely the best gyro in Memphis. It's always consistent and delicious. The owner is so nice as well. Highly recommend.

Very clean. Excellent food. Very quick service. Went during the day and there were plenty of parking spots available. We had gyros, burger and chicken with rice. All full of flavor. Definitely coming back.

I had the gyro plate, spanakopita, hummus, and baklava. I will definitely be back. My favorite part is the simple tabbouli. I don’t even like raw tomatoes but the tabbouli is fresh and flavorful. I also don’t usually like gyros (or lamb) but I gave these a chance and I’m so glad I did. No complaints here. Great service and yummy scratch made food.

The food is great here, and the amount of food you receive per item is plenty. I LOVE their "eggplant dip" (babaganoush)!  Please note the menu above with the blue and scenic background is quite old-and so are the prices on it. See the current menu (as of Sept. 2015) in 2 photos under PHOTOS section above. Everything the hubs and I have eaten from this restaurant has been delicious-except we haven't tried their wings- because Chings Wings is about a block away down Getwell; According to the yearly Memphis food polls, nobody has better wings than Ching's which ranks first in wings every year. Castle/Jr's Fish and Chicken doesn't have great atmosphere, but Audubon Park is two blocks away and a beautiful place for a picnic.UPDATE: On the Facebook page for The Castle, I saw as "upcoming as of July 2015" a phyllo spinach & cheese spiral. It sounded good so I asked if they had that since it's not on the menu. YES. And people, that buttery little wheel tasted like a very crunchy spanakopita and I ate it with a little bit of olive oil to dip in-it's AWESOME.  The gyro I ordered was just as large as in years past-I cut it in half and ate only half-all very fresh and delicious. My favorite side, baba ganoush with warm pita bread was wonderful. This place is great-perfect for calling in an order and picking it up on the way home.

This place is wonderful! Don't be put off by the location - the Mediterranean food is very good. The staff are very friendly and we always feel welcome. Try the gyro entree plate and hummus appetizer. For the price, they give you a tremendous amount of great food. Give this place a try!

Greek mama food. Fair prices, good food, and served like your mama just made it. The beef plate with rice was perfect and nice and hot. We took a baclava and cheesecake with us back to the hotel and both agreed we found a new favorite in Memphis<br/>5 stars

Loved it!!! Good falafel and tazitki, good prices, just incredibly delicious and affordable :) definitely should try it, plus if you have less adventurous friends, they serve a great burger too!

We really like this place! The food is very good. The service couldn't be better. The girl at the counter is super friendly, and by the 2nd-3rd time you go in there, she knows what you're going to order. It's one of our favorite lunch spots because service is fast.

Hole-in-the-wall delivers excellent food!. Pulled up and was a little dubious... they may have had seating for 20 in a cramped atmosphere, with two more tables outside. The menu is small--only five or six choices, but in this case their small menu allowed them to do all the food well!<br/><br/>I got a Gyro which was fantastic. The wrap seemed like it was home made, and the meat was excellently flavored. Beef, instead of the traditional Lamb which was a little disappointing, but it was still very good. My wife got a Turkish beef kabob, also wrapped in the same flatbread as my Gyro. It looked so good, I got one, too. It was good, though not as tasty as the Gyro, and after eating the Gyro with all the yogurt, I found the kabob to be a little dry.<br/><br/>For desert, we tried their baklava and we were very impressed. I've often found baklava to be too sweet, but this was perfect.<br/><br/>Best of all, prices were very low. $6.99 for a Gyro or Kabob combo, with fries and a drink!

Amazing Mediterranean Food in Memphis. I love love love this place. It is great for carryout. We get it all of the time when company is in town or to share with friends. It has now become a favorite of many of my friends. I recommend the gyro plate or mixed meat platter. I prefer it with rice. The baklava is also yummy. The garlic sauce/paste is amazing (which you get with the mixed meat platter). A little goes a long way. Please go it you haven't before. I want this place to stay around for a long time.

Best Middle Eastern Food in Town. The cornor of Park and Shotwell/Getwell is not the area you would expect to find the cities best Middle Eastern food. It is in a small shop with limited seating. At first glance I was unimpressed. However, when I took my first bite of the gyro my mind changed. Since my first time I have been going many times. I am always satisfied after I leave. Not only are their meals a great value, but they are also delicious. The Castle platter is my favorite and will leave you full. The falafel which comes on the platter is superb and mix that with the Tzatziki sauce and you have a great meal

It's Pretty Good!. I've only eaten there a few times and it's pretty good. It's no Anatolia's or House of Kabob's, but it'll do.

Outstanding. This place was awesome... can't believe I had never heard of it! I had the gyro sandwich which was loaded with meat.. it was out of this world!<br/><br/>The place is also really clean.. another plus.

Best Mid-Eastern Food!!!!. I recently visited the Castle for a friends birthday dinner. The food was excellent. I ordered the two Castle Combinations Meat and Veggie Deals. There is sooo much food on both plates and such a variety to choose from. The gyros was my favorite and the falafel is to die for. I had to have dessert so I tried the baklava. It is now my favorite dessert ever. I would recommend this restaurant to any and everyone. It is VERY clean and the staff is very friendly. TRY IT YOU WILL LOVE IT!!!!!!

I tried the veggie deal. It was fantastic. I especially liked the hummus and the tabouleh salad. I'm not generally a big fan of falafel, but I even enjoyed that. I would definately recommend this restaraunt!

The food is great. The meat plate, the veggie plate and the gyros are awesome, the plates are tons of food so be ready to eat, University of Memphis students get a discount so bring your ID card. The food here is amazing! Thisis my new favorite place for lunch.

I would like to try the falafel, philly cheese steak and a greek salad. So I would definitely go back in fact it would make a good lunch today.....

Josh and I loved everything except for the dolmas (an acquired taste, perhaps?).
