Review Kwik Check - Memphis

Jason Tilley
I had to come over to try the Ninja sub I have heard everyone raving about....small grocery store like setting with a few tables...fairly varied menu but I knew what I wanted. ..I waited maybe 10 minutes or so? Not very long...sandwich came out hot....good sandwich for sure...spicy with lots of meat and veggies....best sandwich in the city? I don't think so but it was a good sandwich....I would like to try more of their offerings for sure.

I recommend Kwik Check if you are hungry for some casual food. The place was small but very welcoming and humble. It also seems to be a local favorite! While the beef bibimbap is not as good as the bibimbap I’ve had in Korea, it’s still delicious and enjoyable. I also tried the green plum juice…amazing. We will come here again to try the sandwiches!

My favorite muffaletta in this city. This place has been a staple in this city for decades now. Always a solid choice. *Korean noodle soup and half a spicy muffaletta . 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

I have tried muffulettas at a few places around town and my absolute favorite is from here!! The spicy muffuletta is something I crave almost constantly. I will say the one time I got the ninja there was a lotttttt of sauce on it and by the time I got home the bread was soggy and dripping, but that won’t keep me away. I’ll just ask for less next time.

Consistently the best food in the city. You can’t go wrong with the eclectic menu. For years my favorite item was the Hey Zeus although a couple years back I fell in love with the Bi Bim Bop. Today, it was the Kim Chi chicken burrito. Try something new and enjoy this Memphis jewel.

Hidden gem in Memphis! I know I will never be disappointed with Kwik Check! Their food is always clean and delicious. Their bibimbap bowl is my go-to (and is also a part of my hangover cure haha)! I'm vegan and it is easy to modify without the egg. Their side tofu is also delicious ;) Highly recommend!!

This place was so good! We were skeptical at first. Korean and sandwiches? However we were pleased with our take out. The sandwiches and kimchi fried rice were great.
C T
This place is a hybrid of a stop and go shop and a small restaurant. You order your food at the counter. You can buy the chips and drinks separate. The sandwiches are good. I highly recommend the kimchi fried rice.

I had a wonderful experience here today that changed the entire vibe of my day! Was waiting on an Uber eats order that was gonna take too long and couldn’t cancel the order and the guy working rushed my order bc he could tell I was upset. I appreciated it endlessly. Food was great too!

It's hard not to grab lunch at Kwik Chek. The kimchi burrito, the mandu, or the sandwiches like the Ninja or Falafel are all great. I find myself often craving one or all of them. There is even bi bim bop or gyro! The workers and owners are always pleasant, too. One of the best parts of Midtown and Memphis for sure!

The bi bim bap is so freaking good. First time here and it was great. They older lady at the check out even came over and showed me how to mix it right. 😻😻😻Hubby got the shish kabob plate looks good.

I have eaten there many times over the years and have always enjoyed my food. Today 2/24/23 I tried the mufaletta for the first time. Overall it was well prepared but I was put off by the tomatoes in the olive dressing. They absolutely do NOT belong. I'll be back but will never order that sandwich again. I should have read the menu closer.

I ordered a steak sandwich today. I think they forgot me since after about 20 min I was the only person standing around without my order. People who came in after me had their food. A gentleman asked what I ordered and said it would be 10 minutes. Sadly I did not have enough time to wait. I was offered a credit but no one took my info. I will update the review if I go back and actually get to try the food. updating previous 1 star review. Went in and ordered. Wasn't really expecting them to remember me. It was a bit of a long line, but they went thought it quickly and efficiently. The Steak Sandwich was fantastic. I have ordered from here a few times and everything I get is top notch. I'm guessing my first visit was a fluke. It is worth checking out.

We needed life 💪 in us after our first time downtown during Africa in April. Heck of a weekend 💐. We had the gyros 🥙 she got some bim bop bi and I got the veggie delight sandwich as well. As things tend to go on a typical party 🎉🥳🥳🎉 all the time weekend we were kind of impulsive buying. She got some seaweed, I also got some deviled eggs and a spicy cucumber salad. Everything is good here and when I say that I mean it. None of the companies I review or consult pay me a salary so I'm not benefitting from anything other than enjoying some nice meals. If you have never been here before you should definitely go try it out.
Steve
Bi bim bop was good; burned my finger several times on the hot bowl. Went in to get the bi bim bop burger that I had heard all about, but they were out (how do you run out of burgers?)

Kwik Chek, a former convenience store turned...Greek-Korean grill? It's one of those things that could only happen in America. And is clearly a Memphis treasure.

The Greek sandwiches look amazing. They also sell a nice Greek salad. But their stuffed grape leaves were a bit too hard to be great.

But unquestionably the king of their menu is the Bi Bim Bop Burger. A Korean dish wth beef and egg, fused into a burger. Kinda mind blowing.

For a fun, fast, affordable and unusual meal. Hit this place up.

It used to be a weekly nessicity for me, now the service has gotten so bad that I can't even enjoy the food anymore. Years ago it was a Bodega/deli that was owned and operated by a friendly Korean family that cared about quality and service. I wonder what happened.

I stood at the ordering counter for five minutes like I was invisible feeling stupid. No one took my order. No one gave any acknowledgement of my presence. There were at least two guys and a girl working. No one told me, "I will be with you shortly," or anything like that. After standing there awkwardly feeling stupid for a while, I finally have to exert myself, and call for attention. I raised my hand and called a taller gentleman with a bread and a man bun with glasses on. I said, "excuse me" He said, "I am busy." At that point I already wanted to walk out thinking that wow you are too busy for my business?

I ended up staying for that one time thinking I will put up with this just for today and I will just grab a quick bite to eat and go back to work. I just don't feel like going to my car again and elsewhere and I might have to wait again. Service here sucks but this is my last time.

Fast forward... when time comes for me to pay, the same guy, the taller, white, guy with glasses with facial hair with a man bun, wanted to charge me for a bottle water I did not buy. I sat at a table that they still hadn't cleaned up. Table wasn't dirty other than the empty water bottle still on the table. I picked that table because It was closer to the window with more sunlight. The guy wanted to put that bottle water I did not buy on me. I told him that I didn't buy that water, and I didn't drink a drop of water from that bottle. The guy insisted that I did. I told him that the bottle water was the pervious customer's who used that table and you guys hadn't cleaned that table. He still insisted to put that water on me. I finally lost it and had to raised my voice. He and another guy working there kept telling me that the bottle water was mine and they talked to me in a condescending way. That was by far the shittiest service and restaurant experience I have ever had. If they have security camera there, I dare them to check on the security camera and see If it was me who took that bottle of water and how long I stood in front of that ordering counter. If I took that bottle water out of the fridge, they should file a police report and get me arrested. If what I wrote is true, this place has the absolutely shittiest service in the whole wide world.

Ok..on the food... Food is ok. One big knock is that the portion is too stingy. I got a bowl of Korean beef noodle. There was hardly any beef in it.

Kwik Chek looks like a complete hole-in-the wall but has, hands down, one of the best burgers I've ever had. The Bi Bim Bop Burger is absolute perfection, from its perfectly toasted bun to its spicy veggie garnish. This burger is WAY better than most I've had at much fancier places where I paid double if not triple the price at Kwik Chek. And it's hard to choose between so many yummy sides! I get a new one each time I'm there.
Keith Lewis
Hell yeah. Korean American heavy metal Fusion. What more could you want. Don't be a snob. Be adventurous! I like the Bi Bim Bop Burger!

The Turk. Absolutely Devine!!!

OMG!!! This is wonderful. I'm found the holy grail. Actual home made Yaki Mondu not the typical gyoza that you always find. Thank goodness for Kwik Chek
Ashley
Kwik Chek left a bad taste in my mouth in every sense of the expression. As a midtown homeowner and ex service industry employee, I'm never lacking a good place to eat. Strangely though, I've never eaten at Kwik Chek. It always gets great reviews, so my husband and I ordered take out tonight. Well, let's just say, Kwik Chek is dead to me. I could have gotten past the sandwich not being the one I ordered. I even could have gotten past the nasty taste it left in my mouth. I went back up there to return it after taking only two bites. Let me stress that I NEVER take food back, much less complain. I was super nice about it, but the 'lady' in charge was nothing short of the rudest woman I have ever delt with in my life. This says something after years in the service industry. She gave me such an attitude, explaining that I shouldn't have bitten into it if it was wrong. How would I know it was the wrong sandwich if I've never been there before or without tasting it? Needless to say, I will never know if their food is as delicious as everyone else says, because I will not be returning.

I love This place !!! I came here all throughout college and whenever I have company in town I always bring them here. I've had many things on the menu. My husband swears by the bi bim bap, but I've always been a little afraid of it for some reason. It seems to be a big hit there though. I did have the other fried rice dish although I don't remember what it was called. It was pretty spicy but so flavorful and fresh. I love the "hey Zeus" and always request it to be a little crispier.. The wrap it comes on tastes so good when it's browned. If you're starving or splitting a meal with your special honey love, the muffalettas are humongous and probably the best value in terms of portion size. They taste good. The turkey club is great as well, but their other kinds of breads and wraps are so good I feel like it's a waste to just get plain old sandwiches. This is definitely one of my favorite restaurants in Memphis!!

I'm a lifelong midtowner, and have been going here for 15 years, and its confirmed that their slow decline has now cost them my business. 1) there is nothing Kwik about Kwik check. Last two times I have been there it has taken over 30 min to get my food, and one of the times I even phoned it in early. 2) the sandwiches have as little meat as possible for a $6 sandwich and 3) the owner is completely unapologetic and apathetic. Took out of town friends in there about 6 months ago and was totally embarrassed. They bother everyone's order in the place, then after 45 min of straightening it out, everyone was charged full price as is nothing had happened.
Bill
Inapparently delicious. I've always enjoyed the discrepancy between Kwik Chek's scrappy facility and their delicious sandwiches and dishes. Their noodle shop next door is also very good.
Annie Strohm
Wow! This was good! Don't be fooled by the look of it. It looks like a quick stop when you walk in. We got the bi bim bop, pajeon, and the falafel platter (this place is a unique combo of Korean and Mediterranean). It was all delicious. I would definitely suggest this restaurant to people.

I've been here a number of times over the years. It's always been good. A few weeks ago I met a friend here for lunch and he recommended the bibimbap. I didn't even know what that was. What a great dish! It put me over the top on this place. Great stop, any time of day.
Grace Stinson
Attention Vegans. This place is great, as all of the other reviews have stated, but it IS NOT vegan. You may think the falafel is vegan, or the bibimbop tofu no egg, but I'm sorry, it isn't. Ask the person who takes your order.
Melissa
I love Kwik Check!. There is nothing better. Try the M.e.m.p.h.i.s and the fireball of freedom! The ninja is amazing, too, and if you want to go veggie try My Bloody Valentine! YUM!
Tricia Moore
LOVE this place. It's def a hidden gem that all the locals know about. I take as many people as I can there and nobody's ever had anything but great things to say about their food. I stick with the Turk but it all looks good. Their cakes pretty amazing too. Def go see the ladies at Kwik check!
Brian Pitre
Just go there. Get anything. You'll love it.

What a gem!. I have passed by this convenience store 100x. Who knew they have some of the best food in town! After reading reviews here I tried the beef bibimbap. It was incredible! Thanks for the heads up.

Used to be good. This place is now a ripoff. The gyros was the size of an appetizer. No wonder the totally unfriendly owner is driving a new Benz. Cheating longtime customers, that's how. After many years of loyal patronage I quit.

HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE. For three years I have lived BLOCKS from this place. HOW IS IT POSSIBLE THAT I NEVER KNEW IT EXISTED?

Its really really good. Now keep in mind I am not eating meat... so that might be the catch. Bloody Valentine is a fave of mine and so is the Veggie Delight. But man the Kim Chi Fried Rice is spot on.

It is definitely eclectic. its almost like three places in one... Asian cuisine, Mediterranean, and Vegetarian.

Price point is definitely right, food is good, the service is top rate. It is definitely on my list of happy places.
Mike
Good Food. My girlfriend has been wanting to try this place out for a while, and we finally decided to go. Since then, we've been back 2 or 3 times. You wouldn't expect to find Korean food here, but the bibimbap was very good. I tried the gyro at another occasion and didn't care much for it. But I highly recommend the bibimbap. The ambiance is, well, it's a convenience store with chairs and tables. The parking is pretty limited, so you'll have to park on the street if their storefront parking is full.

Definitely a hidden gem. I went to kwik chek for the first time yesterday and when i walked in i was skeptical, but let me tell ya....do not be scared! i had the bi bim bap with chicken and it was fantastic! when the girl in charge of the food brought my my sizzling cast iron bowl the little asian lady that runs the place quickly ran over and mixed up my bowl for me! so cute. it was definitely a nice touch. also for the beer drinkers- they have a pretty decent selection of 40s to go along with your stellar sandwich/mediterranean/korean food choice!
Penelope Brooks
Yummy. I LOVE the chicken salad if you like this restraunt you will love Elliots in downtown Memphis!!!!!
Lola
I will return. This was a nice find! The place isn't a looker but what do you expect out of a convenience store/deli?
What really matters is the food. I got the much-loved Bi Bim Bop and must say that I agree... it is DELICIOUS! (I got mine with beef.)

It's an interesting place. It's mainly Greek fare with some Korean foods... and Korean owned. I want to try the Mandau next time. Well, I want to try just about everything else there.

There's a wall of beer, and racks of chips, and fridges of bottled drinks. But I was there for the deli counter. Definitely check this place out.

4 stars. Food = 5
Ambiance = 2
Service = 3

Recommendation: Ninja, Steak sandwhich, Pork Roast, The Turk

Bi, Bim, BOP!. I was skeptical about this place at first, being that I was from out of town, and the crowd I was with had never even heard of the place. It looked like a dumpy little place where one would go if lost, but I really enjoyed the Tofu Bi Bim Bop. Hard to say but amazingly delightful to eat! I grabbed a muffaletta to go for later. I totally wish that later was now!

Don't Get It. I have been here about five times and I'm still not sure what all the fuss is about. It's OK, but it isn't one of the best sandwich places I have ever tried. Maybe I'm just getting the wrong thing every time?
Lucy Bounces
Korean noodle soup!. Eat this food! Noodle soup is the best! Try everything on the menu then do it again! I love this place!
Jared
Overrated. Their gyros are overpriced and way overrated. Also, they're too expensive.

Hidden Gem. On the outside, there is nothing about this place that suggests it has a Korean and Mediterranean menu. Situated across the street from the Flying Monkey, the inside is fairly unassuming and it looks like a simple quickie mart. But should you move past the aesthetics and give the menu a try, everything meets and exceeds your every expectation.

Maybe this is just because this is Memphis and finding a good gyro is daunting. Or maybe this is because the lady running the shop sticks to her guns and offers a quality product without all the marketing hype in promoting her store; the product speaks for itself. Whatever the case may be, be prepared to unload a few extra bills. While some of what there is to choose from is on the pricier side, such as all the drinks and some of the sides, the sandwiches are all reasonably priced and that is really what matters most.

Worst case scenario, buy your sandwich, walk across the street to the Monkey, and you're golden. It's a great way to spend your lunch break during the week or even bumming around town over the weekend.

Great Sandwiches. I love Kwik Chek's falafels and their veggie sandwiches. Quality, fresh ingredients. Never had a bad experience here, and the deviled eggs are great too! Try this place out sometime if you are looking for a good, inexpensive meal.

GREASY. Their gyros are good, but extremely greasy. I've never had one so greasy. Not sure if it's the meat or the pita or both. Big turn-off. However, the spanakopita (spinach pie) was delish. I definitely won't get another gyro from this place again. I also thought the prices were a bit high. Two gyros and a slice of spanakopita cost almost $18 bucks. I'll stick with Sean's Cafe on Union. Their gyros aren't greasy at all and they're prices are more reasonable.

SImply The Best. My favorite sandwiches in Memphis, period. The menu is great top to bottom and the sandwiches come out rather quickly. Grab a bag of Cape Cod chips and a drink from the cooler and you're ready to go.
K T
Soo good. Have not had one bad thing. A must go.

Delicious wraps and sandwiches made easy. My favorite (spicy) muffaleta in town--as a rule whenever we're here I get the big one and save over half of it for my fridge for a couple days' worth of lunchtime bliss. And the fact they absorbed some of the menu from Petra makes me happy indeed--I love lunching on kim chi and paejon and bibimbap,, yum.

Try the Gyros. My favorite place in Memphis to "grab a quick bite." The Gyro is my favorite sandwich - overflowing with tender meat, fresh sauteed peppers and onions and tiziki sauce. Mmmm...
Kimberly Hooper
Veggie Delight. I try to go by Kwik Check and have one whenever I'm back in town. So good!

Best memphis dining secret. I never was a big fan of going out for sandwiches. My opinion of it was, why go pay $5-6 for a sandwich when it can be made at home? at the same time most things you go out to eat can be made at home but to me sandwiches was just waaay on the bottom of the list - UNTIL i was working on a show one day and some people asked if i wanted something to eat while they go out i said sure, get me whatever. They came back with a pork roast sandwich from Kwik Check and the sandwich world has never been the same for me since!!! The ninja - hands down is probably the best in memphis as well!! Me and my girlfriend eat there at least twice a week - great place.
Memphish
The Ninja is the best sandwich in town

Gyros was very good

From the outside it looks like a sketchy convenience store but looks can be deceiving... The turkey muffelletta was fantastic!!!! So much better than the ones I've had in NOLA. Spicy olive spread with turkey, turkey pastrami and cheese on a toasty bun. OMG - what a treat! The half was more than enough for me. Definitely check this place out!

Best Kept Sat/Sun Hungover Lunch Secret Ever. Gyros are awesome. It's in a little supermarket/gas station looking thing across from Molly's and Blue Monkey on Madison. They have great wraps, gyros, and other sandwiches prepared fresh in front of you. I've been going here for years and love it! They also have a great soda, beer, and chip selection. Try it, for sure.
Cheeto Bandito
Amazing!!! I can't believe there are no more votes here! Midtowns best kept secret! Incredible sandwiches I love the veggie delight pita and the turkey club on wheat (ask for it spicy!) super fast service very delicious and nice people

Kwik Chek has a big reputation in Memphis. I have never heard anyone say anything negative about this place. From what I can tell, it is everyone's favorite sandwich shop and the mecca of all things awesome and delicious. At least this is the impression I get, which is why I don't understand how it took me so long to get over there and try them out for myself. I am, in fact, attracted to all things awesome and delicious. Kwik Chek does not look like much from outside. You would never give it a second glance if you weren't familiar with it. It doesn't look like much on the inside either. It's an open area, with a counter lining the right side, a deli counter in the back, chips and drinks lined on the left, and tables in the middle. It's the hole-in-the-walls that always surprise you as gems, though. Scott is a Kwik Check expert, so I let him help guide me to my perfect sandwich. He chose the Hey Zeus wrap, which is a flour tortilla containing turkey, roast beef, feta cheese, bell pepper

Sunday evening we decided to take the monkeys (Satchel, 7, and Jiro, 5) to see Alice in Wonderland at Studio on the Square. We didn't have much time to squeeze in dinner, so I started running through the nearby restaurants in my mind to figure out which o

The Kwik Check is one of midtown’s favorite low-key lunch spots. It’s part convenience store, part lunch counter. They sell the usual mini-mart goods (chips, drinks, cigarettes, newspapers, beer) along side deli sandwiches, homemade pasta salad, gyros, an
