Supervisor was super friendly. I am vegan and she made an extra effort of checking whether all the ingredients were vegan. Apparently the peanut sauce with chilli oil dumplings had some sort of pork oil so that was good to know. Anyways, had a great meal and the place was relaxing.

Service was odd where staff didn’t greet us and one of the staff that served us was soft spoken and timid. The xiao long baos were the best item we ordered. At first the sweet and sour soup was competing but it made some of us feel very unwell shortly after having it. This could possibly be because it wasn’t fresh. The Shanghai noodles and salmon fried rice was okay. The black pepper dry noodles were definitely not worth ordering. The meat was very dry and the noodles were stiff, like almost rock hard. Overall would not recommend coming here.

A large space with self serve menus. All the great Chinese dishes can be eaten here and the serves are very generous. Luckily the restaurant supplies takeaway containers if you order too much.
I had a simple pork and prawn wonton soup and it was delicious. Strongly flavored broth and the dumplings were silky smooth. Excellent value for money and highly recommend .

If you love eating dumplings then Shanghai Street is the place for you. Delicious, succulent dumplings in a variety of flavors and accompanying sauces are served here. Located prominently on Elizabeth Street, Melbourne CBD.
Aisan decor. Neat and clean place. Service is quick. Staff are particularly good at guiding you if you have food allergies.

Can't go wrong with the XLB here - silky skin with generous meaty fillings, it's no wonder why this dish is seen on almost every table. The Pan Fried Baozi is yummy too, with its soft skin and crisped bottom. For something sweet, you can't go past the Salted Egg Custard Bun and Fried Rice Cake with Red Bean!

Not the best experience.
Quite a busy restaurant. I had high hopes. The dumplings were nice. Especially the pan fried chicken and prawn.
The order in which the food came out was quite odd. The steamed rice came out first, then the dumplings and then quite a while later the other main dishes which the rice was for eventually made their way to the table. Between around 30-45 mins later.
The Chinese broccoli was so watery and not very tasty. I’m not sure I’ll go back again.

Oh wow this was an absolute feast! First time coming here and I’ll 100% be back. From very friendly customer service to absolute delicious food, Shanghai Street won’t let you down.
We ordered:
Entrees -
Xiao Long Bao (vegetarian) - delicious bites of heaven! These are seriously the best XLBs I’ve had.
Boiled dumplings with chili oil and peanut and sesame butter sauce (kung pao chicken) - the flavour of the sauce was just magical! Was the perfect touch to these boiled dumplings.
Mains -
Salt and pepper chicken, deep fried calamari and Chinese broccoli. Each dish was beautiful! We loved how crispy and flavoursome the chicken and calamari were. Chinese broccoli is always a great addition .
