Average. Overall, it New China is pretty average for Chinese take-out. Not the best, but not the worst either. Wonton soup was good. Lo mein could have used more vegetables.

Check your order. They may have your order ready in 10 minutes BUT when it is wrong does it really matter? on 2 separate occasions i've had to drive back and they re-make my order. so more like 30 minutes. They are good about correcting the issue and offer me a soda and egg roll while i wait.

On one of the first colder evenings of the fall, I decided some soup sounded good. I was in Melbourne and found a Chinese take-out called New China. I went in and ordered a quart of wonton soup. The soup was good, although a little on the salty side. There was plenty of wontons and each dumpling had a good amount of meat inside. No shredded pork at the bottom of the soup though. Overall, it was pretty average as far as Chinese take-out soup went. Not the best, but not the worst either.

This is in the 3rd floor of Melbourne Central near the cinema. Went here for lunch as walk in, steady traffic of customers. Service is quick, food cooked fresh, well seasoned and generous servings. Place is clean with ample spaces in between tables. Crispy rainbow beef was tender, xiaolongbao was soupy, spring rolls were crispy and good portions. The veg fried rice was to share good for 2. Had a great time here.

I was invited to try out the truffle menu for dinner and it was amazing. We started with 3 different truffle dim sums, each with it's own truffle twist. The truffle honey chicken was very good, the sweetness of the honey paired with the earthy flavours of the truffle is perfection. Finally the truffle fried noodles were another stand out, flavoursome and with the added shredded duck it was a great dish to share. Please be aware there is another Shanghai restaurant in Emporium that claimed to be this business even though there is no link.

Such a beautiful restaurant - it’s like being transported to another era. They have their mooncake offering at the moment and the truffle pork is the best (First time having a savoury mooncake). Great dishes and cocktails on offer as well - loved the pork belly, dumplings and spicy prawns

So privileged to be invited to New Shanghai to try their range of short crust mooncakes. @newshanghai The owners Evelyn and Jerry are so generous and hospitable. They also lavished us with 15 tapa style dishes - each a signature dish and uniquely delicious. 🤩 Featured ⭐️Drunken chicken ⭐️Stuffed lotus root with sweet rice & osmanthus syrup ⭐️Garlic cucumber ⭐️Shanghai turnip cake ⭐️Chicken san choy bow ⭐️Peking duck pancakes ⭐️Dynamite prawns ⭐️Xiao long bao ⭐️Pan fried pork buns ⭐️Pot stickers ⭐️Shanghai spring rolls ⭐️Spring onion pancakes ⭐️Braised pork belly ⭐️Fortune rice pudding ⭐️Skewers ( pork belly, prawn paste, chicken wings, lamb cumin, salted chicken thigh) 🥮 Mooncakes All dishes were wonderful but my personal favourites are the braised pork belly (so tender and flavourful) and the fortune rice pudding. Their pork buns and pot stickers are generously filled and juicy. 🤤 And who doesn't love freshly grilled skewers marinated in secret house spices. YUM! 😋 When you step into this restaurant, you can see the care that was taken to make sure their guests are comfortable and enjoy the ambience. From its stylish bar to the modern furnishings and of course the extensive and mouthwatering array of dishes, New Shanghai has it all! 🤩 A must visit for your next meal or work function! Highly recommend! 💯

The best dumplings in Melbourne. Love their potstickers, spring onion pancake, rainbow beef and Chinese broccoli with garlic. Service is super friendly and helpful.

Cool dumpling chinese restaurant in the Melbourne Central shopping center. Nice and spacious. HUGE menu.. quite overwhelming so would suggest to have a pre look before visiting! They offer more than just dumplings and have a huge range of authentic Chinese dishes. Decently priced and good portions. We were a party of the 3 and shared everything. We got: - Vinegar ribs - highly recommend. Not too sweet and the right amount of tang. - Squid tentacles - nice texture and not too greasy. - Crushed cucumber - delicious and refreshing, but be warned there’s a lot of garlic involved! - Peking duck pancakes - juicy duck, Nice and soft pancakes which were already pre made. - Crab xiao long bao - nice and juicy. The soup tasted more porky than crabby. - Chili wontons - delicious chili sauce and wontons were a nice size and texture. - Pan fried pork and chive - nicely pan fried and crispy. Nice big filling. - Various skewers - the chicken wing with shrimp paste was a little disappointing. We expected a wing stuffed with shrimp paste but it was more a chicken wing washed with shrimp paste flavor. The pork belly was pretty rich and the salt prawns were ok but prawns were not the freshest and was quite mushy in texture. They had a 2 for 1 offer so we ended up getting double of all the skewers unintentionally but was not a bad mistake. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the city and craving some authentic Chinese food. They have a big bar as well and offer wine, beer and cocktails.

Lunch for the new year. Went with people from Shanghai. They enjoyed the food. It was a little bland for my taste. Service and atmosphere were good. Sweet fish 年年有余 fried green beans, eel and dumplings. Well presented.
