No mixed feelings here.... While there are lots of mixed reviews here for the Mermaid Cafe, I can positively say that my family and I had a most excellent experience. The food was plentiful, perfectly cooked, and a delight to the palate. The staff was extremely polite and attentive, and the manager Matt was one of the kindest people I've met in awhile. I'll just chalk that up to old fashioned Southern hospitality. I can hardly wait to return with the rest of the family... there were way too many choices on the menu. I didn't get to try them all!

Awesome Dining Experience. I had heard of the Mermaid Cafe in the past but did not know where it was. After googling it, I found that it is located on Lake Caroline in the Gluckstadt communit, north of Jackson off I-55. My wife and I had finished some shopping chores out at Dogwood and I wanted to surprise her with a new eating place since we love to try new restaurants to which we have not been before. I had googled the Mermaid Cafe and found out where it was. After going by Fresh Market and picking up some Vanilla Flavoring for our cakes, I told her that I was taking her to a new place. We drove out to Gluckstadt and eased our way back to Lake Caroline. Simply beautiful!! We sat down at the restaurant at about 5:30 and an extremely nice young man came and gave us menus. We ordered the fried crab claws, the gumbo, the brie and crap soup and a seafood platter. I told the waiter to bring all the food at one time. When the food came, my wife and I were amazed at the portions and knew the platter would easily feed both of us. We both took a bite of the fried fish first and both looked at each other in amazement. I told her, "Oh my gosh!!! Every bite from the perfectly fried oysters, shrimp, fish, crab claws and delicious soups were amazing!!! There is nothing in New Orleans or any other place where we have been that compares to this food. The fried foods were not greasy and each bite was like heaven. I have never had fried fish so good! There were little fried crab balls on the plate that seemed to have cheese and bits of shrimp and crab in the middle. They were amazing!!! It is hard to get oysters fried right anywhere. These oysters were perfect!! They were crispy on the outside with a light breading and the inside was just soft enough so that you could get the full oyster flavor. We finished the night off with a chocolate chip skillet cookie topped with ice cream and chocolate sauce. WOW!!! My wife and I have enjoyed food all over the world and all over the United States, but this food was of Master Piece quality. Great food, pontoons cruising up the lake, sun setting over a beautiful lake!!! AMAZING!!! p.s. We even got to watch a wedding across the way that was taking place across the water from the restaurant. Can't wait to go back and try other items on the menu. What a find!!!!

Great place. Ate there for the first time last week and loved it. When we went, the atmosphere was very laid back and cozy. I had the roasted chicken and cheese grits. Both were very good. They have a huge porch with swings overlooking Lake Caroline where you can relax afterwards.
Worth the trip!. I had been wanting to go out to the mermaid for a while.. and finally had the chance to make the trip this weekend for our anniversary. Let me say... WORTH THE TRIP! The service, atmosphere, and food was amazing! My husband had the grilled wasabi ginger glazed tuna with a hot asian style slaw, I had a bite...it was great! I had the filet mignon with a baked potato. AMAZING! Cooked to the perfect temp.. which is hard to come by. I would and WILL recommend The Mermaid Cafe to all of my friends and family! Great!!!
The mermaid is always great. From fish to pizza or hamburgers it is consistently delish.

OMG! This place is awesome. It's off the beaten path but absolutely orgasmic. I have to recommend the Prime Rib and ask for the Wasabi and Ginger sauce that goes on the tuna. Well worth the money.
Excellent Experience. We were seated immediately upon arrival and our waitress was there promptly to take our drink order. She was pleasant and took very good care of us the entire time. As we finished our first cup of coffee, she brought us a carafe of coffee. I had the thin fried catfish, which was excellent, esp with the dill tarter sauce. My friend had a shrimp po boy and said it was one of the best he had ever had. The chef walked through , checking with customers and talking to all. No doubt, we will return.
Went for my aunt's b'day. Got there shortly after they opened. The service was great. They all wished my aunt happy b'day. Everyone said there food was delicious. The server even had a set of chips cooked special for me (so as not to be containmentnated by shrimp oil). I would go back, even with a sea food allergy!
NOT MCDONALDS. I love The Mermaid but wish parents would realize that the porch is NOT the McDonald's playground. It's hard to enjoy the beauty surrounding The Mermaid with kids running and stomping back and forth across the porch, playing chase.
Their filet is to die for - scrumptious seasoning.
Hmmm. Our food was EXCELLENT! The only thing that was less than average was the red potatoes and they were awful. The ambience is casual and comfy which is fine, but we spent 70 on food alone and with that kind of money on food...you would think the atmosphere would be just slightly more upscale, and a little bit better service. Our server was usually prompt, but she was kind of a bitch. The napkins they give you are dish towels. NOTE: if you have children, they dont offer juice and will not give you pineapple juice from the bar.
The prime rib is unbelievable. It's like cutting through butter it's so tender although it's only available on tues and Wednesday nights as far as I know.
Same wonderful food as the Nick's that we know except capturing the casual atmosphere of elegance that is just right for Lake Caroline.
Drinks are good..food is better. Love it every time.
Excellent food, casual friendly atmosphere, reasonable prices. Have been to The Mermaid many times and have never been disappointed. The hamburger with homemade chips is the BEST!! Also, I don't mind having to wait for a table because the view from the large comfy front porch is incredible.
So I had one of our guest bloggers reported about the Mermaid Cafe earlier this year. I like her, I trust her, but I had to taste and see for myself. I've never, ever been to Lake Caroline before. I just hadn't made the drive. Don't go out that way, never
We celebrated my wife's birthday here. Everything was delicious, especially thier lamb chop special with rosemary risotto. The service was outstanding! Management was super helpful and accommodating. Best of all, our server, McKenzie worked her tail off, making sure everyone in our party of 13 had an excellent time. Thank you Mermaid Cafe!
Great experience and environment. The food was delicious. Especially loved the crisp fries, pimento cheese balls, and crawfish egg rolls! They even had socially distant seating for each group.
Crazy great service and the 8oz filet was as close to perfect as I've ever had. The wait staff was excellent and just can't say enough goodness about the food.

You can’t beat the service you get when you dine at the Mermaid! Their menu has a few options and none disappoint. They run specials almost every week and you can check them out on their Facebook page. If your just looking for a good drink hit up their bar, they have some great drinks as well.
Every experience at The Mermaid Cafe is excellent. Kind and attentive servers, excellent food, and super atmosphere. Definitely has a “Cheers” feel. You’re always a friend here, and they have great drink specials.
I had a steak from another place in town that is KNOWN for their steaks.... and they can’t hold a candle to the Mermaids filet. Best steak in Jackson. And I know my steak.
The food was absolutely delicious and the service was fantastic! Grayson was our server... first night off training and did so good! Couldn't ask for a better place to have an amazing time at dinner!
