Review Urban Slice - Madison

C S
**EDIT: I went in to the store and spoke with the owner; very kindly listened to my explanation of what had happened. The last time I was in (January), the pizzas were baked properly and definitely looked & tasted better than when I was in 5 months ago! Thanks to Brandon and the Urban Slice staff for the motivation to make things right for their customers! I went in to order a cheese pizza, and when I got in, they had all these freshly baked pizzas out, but the cheese was the only one stale! Wasn't even warm when I got it, super dry and overall not that great. Who wants to eat a slice of pizza that looks like THAT? I mean really... Would the manager or staff buy and eat that if they had a choice..?

Unfair place with rude staff. Menu says you can have 2 slices with 4 chicken wings as a combo for 6.50$, but when you chose it, staff tell you that no, they would not sell you this combo for that price. If yo ask to change the menu to reflect the reality, they would reject. The only explanation here is a scam or very poor educated staff, which don’t even know their own menu. Important to notice that this error there is already for almost a year and was reported on yelp in 2018. The answer of union south was that they cannot see this error, which is ridiculous.

Consistently inconsistent. Inconsistent toppings, inconsistent slice sizes. Always a wonderful feeling to get half the size slice as the person ahead or behind you, but pay the same. Inconsistent cooking, some pizza undercooked, others burnt. I ordered pepperoni, got 1.5 slices of pepperoni on pizza, the person behind me got a slice with 6-7 slices on it. Complained to management multiple times, they just don't care. It is clear college students are incapable of cutting a circle into equal size pieces. Crust is soggy from grease on one end, and hard as a rock on the other. Very greasy stuff. Salads are a nice option, but they charge twice the price of the pizza and have trimmed ingredients to cheapen it. Just avoid. College kids are strapped for cash as it is, this stuff is way overpriced for what you get. Decided to give Urban slice a try as it'sit's two years since my review. Only real change I could see was the employees. Suspect the last employees graduated. The photo is what I received today. Total cost: 3.01. This is what they call "Veggie" pizza. I will give them that the crust is slightly better, but not sure if the size slice or lack of veggies justifies a price of 3 dollars. Management should take a trip to Costco, watch them slice pizza. They have a gadget that let's them cut the pizza into equal sized slices using a standard pizza cutter.

I work on campus and eat here often. When it's good, it's good. When it's bad....oh boy. A few times I've walked in and all the pizzas have been burned to a black crisp, yet they're sitting there waiting to be sold as if it's all good. Their cheese bread also seems to change completely on a monthly basis; I assume because they just buy whatever is the cheapest at the time? The staff are always good and the price is right. They just desperately need some quality control!

Sometimes you're just craving a big greasy floppy slice of cheap pepperoni pizza and only your cardiologist will really fault you for that. It's a comfort food. Unfortunately this place only hits a few of those already low marks consistently. It's always greasy and pizza. It isn't cheap. Sometimes the crust is the perfection of thin crust pizza baking, but usually it is just hard as a rock if not burnt. Also, annoyingly, is the tendency for a slice of insert-topping pizza looking like a slice of cheese pizza. Nothing wrong with cheese pizza until you try to call it sausage pizza, folks. Menu offerings aside from pizza disappear despite appearing popular. Calzones were always in short supply while offered because they were good. Why stop selling one of the things you consistently did right? Service is done by students who generally appear to be on autopilot. It's functional, but sometimes can lead to further frustration with an already disappointing meal.

My wife and I had the pleasure of eating at Urban Slice many times since moving to Madison a couple of years ago. We were both born and raised in New York so we know a little bit about authentic New York Style pizza and Urban Slice did not disappoint! Not only was this the best pizza that we have ever had outside of New York but it was one of the best pizza that we have ever had period! My wife is not a big pizza lover and she loved this pizza. The pizza is thin crusted with just the right amount of spices in the sauce and just the right amount of mozzarella cheese. In addition the meatball topping that we ordered was delicious. It was not just ground beef but a real Italian meatball topping. We are moving to Madison soon and this will be our regular pizza place. If you value the opinion of two New Yorkers on good New York Pizza then don’t just walk here for their pizza…RUN!!!

Crust is burntand way too much cheese. You cant even eat the slice without a knife and fork. This place is terrible and should be replaced.

Too gloppy and the last two times I dined there, had stomach problems and lost sleep. If you want good pizza, go to ‘La Strada’ @ Memorial Union and hope they’re open and not overcrowded.
