Naturally I am one who has to have a craving for ice cream when I eat any kind of ice cream but when I am strolling/walking around downtown Madison on a beauitful day I find it hard to past up getting myself some ice cream from the Chocolate Shoppe. Its one my favorite places in Madison, WI to get ice cream. The staff seems to be always friendly and not too pushy when I am trying to make my decision on what ice cream to get.
We were told by a local, that we had to stop. Excellent ice cream with unique flavors. Try the coconut almond or espresso Oreo.
I stopped in to grab a quick bite and I was overwhelmed with all of the flavors. I settled on a kid's cone with strawberry cheesecake. For the price, it was a lot of ice cream. I could tell that the ice cream was pretty fresh, the cheesecake pieces moist and creamy. I think I'll be back to try some different flavors soon!
I heard so many rave reviews from friends before coming here, so I was very excited to try it out! It was SUPER packed, and there isn't a single line- It felt a little disorganized to place an order, but once I put in my order, service was quick and friendly! I had the Mackinaw Cherry, which tasted good! I enjoyed their ice cream, but I wouldn't say it was my favorite. I would definitely come again though to try their other flavors!
My friend told me that this shop had good ice creams. So Tried their zoreo ice cream in waffle cone. I liked the ice cream so much, the chocolate taste and the texture. They also gave me a huge scoop of ice cream so it was enough to fill my stomach. The waitress was good although it was crowded when I visited the shop.

Excellent variety of ice creams, and is wonderful to sit and watch the liveliness of state street, ice cream in hand. Friendly, welcoming staff.
I am not really an ice cream fan, but the Chocolate Shoppe ice cream is the bomb. I will have a cone whenever I'm in the area. Jilbert's ice cream in Marquette, MI and the UW-Madison's ice cream are close in quality, but not quite as good. Try it!
How can not like this ice cream.
Possibly the best stuff on earth!
Try Zanzabar it is out of this world.
You really can't go wrong with anything here.
Bad For You, But So Good. A sign inside admits as much: "You want nutrition, eat carrots." My wife loves the chocolate varieties here--zanzibar and zoreo. My favorite is the fat elvis--banana ice cream with peanut butter and chocolate. Rich, creamy, and not good for you at all, but that's what makes it so good.
Located on State Street, I'm sure this place may get an obnoxious crowd from time to time as another reviewer found. That said, I haven't had any problems here. The seating, however, is a bit cramped.
Grade: A-
Loved the French silk ice cream with cookie dough added.
John's the first to admit that he's slightly biased; he used to work at a Culver's Frozen Custard, so his standards are high. Even JM and Nichole had to agree that these sundaes looked a little anemic. Just a bit more topping would have gone a long way. I
