This is the most amazing Sushi and Sashimi one can ever have! Try the rolls, try the Sashimi! Very fresh! Fried tofu is excellent! For dessert please try the fryed green tea ice cream!

Great place to have sushi and Japanese dishes. It’s very quite and nice here. The serves are all nice and patient and they don’t bother you at all during dinner. The place was not too busy on a Monday night. The food is really good and they have quite a few choices. Overall a great place for sushi in Madison.

Great service! Was warmly welcomed when we walked in. Was immediately given a choice of a few different tables to sit at.
The server was gracious and even allowed us to order Tonkatsu for dinner even though it wasn't on the menu (so very nice of them to accommodate us).
Food was brought out on time and hot!
Looking forward to going back again

The first time I went here was with my friend and his family. I was greeted very kindly from the staff. The food was incredible. They serve fresh soup and sushi. I now go here every week and have got to know the owner and she is a very kind hearted person. Highly recommend if you live in the Madison/Chatham area of NJ.

I have gone here for more than 12 years. Every time I go I am kindly greeted by the waitress and owner. This is absolutely the best restaurant I have ever been to because of the incredible food, service and overall authentic Japanese experience. The prices are low compared to the high quality of their food.

Great Authentic Japanese Food. Friendly folks, say hello to Otai-san owner and head sushi chef! Top notch traditional sushi & sashimi usually only available in NYC.

Got the Omakase dinners for my wife and me and they were a real treat! There are only a few Japanese restaurants in NJ that serve Omakase, usually you have to go to Manhattan for the meal.
The quality at Takuma was excellent. It reminded me a little of the food I used to get on my business trips to Tokyo.

One of our all time favorite spots, great sushi, the service is so friendly and their hibachi noodles are addictive. We order them every single time.

Pretty normal japanese restaurant. Good service and communicative staff, solid but not anything special.

This restaurant is owned by Japanese chef. It means that we could have "real" and "genuine" Japanese cuisine.

My family and I have been going here for years. Every single time it’s 5-star food. The atmosphere needs a little updating, it feels like a diner, but you go here for the amazing sushi chef in lowkey digs. The service is always great too. It’s family run, support this place!

Delicious food! Family atmosphere! Friendly and helpful service! Sushi is fresh and out of this world! So happy this restaurant is within walking distance and downtown! Definitely a go to place!

Cozy place with authentic Japanese cuisine. Friendly service and great quality sushi and sashimi. Not many tables so may not be suitable for large groups.

If you're looking for authentic Japanese food, this is your place! Takuma offers sushi and sashimi with locally sourced high quality ingredients. This is a family run business and the owners are truly dedicated to the art and craft of traditional Japanese food. If I can make any suggestions, try the sushi and sashimi (obviously), the teishoku lunch or dinner box (you will have a sample of california rolls, tempura, shrimp shumai, miso soup), the Ginshiyaki (very flavorful salmon with vegetables), and the Nabeyiaki Udon (Udon soup with chicken and vegetables - great to warm up in wintertime)! Me and my husband eat there almost every other week!

Authentic Japanese chef, traditional cuisine with interesting creations and a very friendly staff makes Takuma by far THE BEST Japanese experience in northern new jersey. I go there every month and love it! The price is right too, plus they don't charge for the hot tea. I recommend the chow roll and the sushi & sashimi combo.

Melt in your mouth deliciousness. I have gone to this restaurant many times with my husband and it is THE best place to go for sushi and sashimi. Often people think that freshness of the fish is the only factor in a good sushi restaurant. But a master chef like Mr. Otai knows that cutting the fish properly is just as critical to truly bring out the flavors of the fish. He prepares pieces that are not only aesthetically beautiful, but melt in your mouth delicious. The Miso soup alone could be worth the trip. For non-sushi eaters or vegetarians the menu is broad enough to truly satisfy a wide variety of foodies. I highly recommend the Ramen, Miso Udon, Hamachi Kama, Beef Negimaki, the Rocket Roll, or the Otai roll (my favorite).

Perfect Dinner. What's not to like. Great quality. Perfect service. Creative rolls. Great menu selections beyond Sushi. BYOB. Reasonable prices for the neighborhood. The Hamachi Kama (Yellowtail Jaw), which you don't see everywhere, was perfect!
