There is no better chocolate shop in the United States. If you need a chocolate fix it is the place to go,
Oh my goodness, chocolate heaven! So many different chocolate treats to choose from! Good luck!
A wonderful shop! Monica is so friendly and helpful, gave us delicious samples and even showed us the production area. So many delicious chocolates to choose from, as well as beautiful jewelry and Peruvian knitted wear.... We can't wait to go back next fall, but think we may have to order some chocolates long before then!
Excellent! I recommend the hot chocolate. Thank you, Monica!
What a jewel in downeast Maine! This is so much more then an amazing chocolate spot -- it's inspiration -- Monica's story is about starting with nothing and making a success of yourself!
Deliciosos chocolates con una variedad increíble , me encantaron todos, pero los de relleno de manjar blanco y nueces /pecanas son espectaculares ! Que buena la opción de " Sugar free" ! Felicitaciones Mónica!
We were looking for a chocolate fix and found so much more! What great jewelry! I'm definitely coming back!
The whole experience and Monica. The chocolate is amazing!!!!
My mom and I ordered some chocolates online, and we LOVED them. The Bonbons didn’t last one day, they are just too good. We are peruvians and really miss peruvian treats. The peruvian filling (manjar blanco) is absolutely delicious! Thank you Monica!
The blueberry wine truffles are absolutely delicious!
No trip to Campobello or West Quoddy Lighthouse is complete without a stop at Monica's!
A must try. Friendly service, hospitality devine, and luscious chocolates. What else could one ask for? Why more of all three. We will return for sure.
Two things I eat only when I am in Maine as they are not as good anywhere else: Lobster and chocolate. Lobster fresh out of the cold Atlantic and gourmet chocolates fresh from Monica's Chocolates. My coworkers all look forward to my trips here as I bring them all back her chocolate bonbons, truffles, sea cucumbers, and chocolate fruit clusters. Love Monica. Love her chocolates.
We make trips from Eastport, we order by phone for gift giving, and we've even taken a foot ferry to Lubec for lunch, where Monica herself met us with our chocolate order!!!!
Do we like her chocolates? Everything and I mean ALL other chocolates pale in comparison.
Our favorites are anything with her dark chocolate. And caramel. And sea salt. And her other products are pretty wonderful too.
Did I mention we adore Monica herself?
This place is awesome! The lady who owns this place gave a little tour around her shop and explained all the different types of gourmet chocolates she makes and the places she gets her ingredients. Beautiful jewelry and gifts as well as gourmet coffees and hot chocolate. You can see the time and effort she puts into everything she sells. This place is the finest chocolate shop I have ever been too.
Chocolates reel in the tourists and charming decorative items, Ray's Mustards and Peruvian clothing keep you there longer than anticipated.
Monica is an absolute sweetheart. The chocolate is amazing! To die for even! Its Peruvian Chocolate. She's also got an assortment of sweaters, jams, jewelry and many other neat things. If you're in the area you have to go!
Wonderful place! We came five years ago and it's still amazing. My wife bought some cranberry chocolates in two visits and today, she bought some Peruvian hot chocolate. WOW ! Creamy, thick and delicious. He even went and took her back into the kitchen and showed her how it was made....so many ingredients. A nice, nice place with great owners.
If you crave fresh chocolate and you are traveling to Lubec, you need to stop at Monica’s. She makes some of the best creations to satisfy your chocolate fix. There are other items that make decent gifts, though the chocolate works just fine for me. It tastes very fresh!
A brief history of Monica's Chocolates. Monica is from Peru she came to the US as an immigrant and didn't speak any english, she learned how to make chocolates from nothing, literally a few bon bons at a time. She has built up the business to what it is today. A very hard working lady who's chocolates are homemade right in the basement every day. She has a successful business that has grown into quite the shop. Famous for her assortment of chocolate and treats, she also sells jewelry, clothing and coffee along with other items.
If you are coming through the area it is worth the stop. You'll want to discuss with your partner a budget before entering or you'll ever up buying the whole shop! haha
What an unexpectedly clever little shop. Monica has way more than chocolate available. There is quite a display of Peruvian jewelry and sweaters among other things. You really just need to stop in and see for yourself!
While visiting Lubec and the eastern most point of the United States and of Maine, at West Quoddy Head Lighthouse for vacation, we stopped in here for some treats. This was our first time here. What a gem to find in such an unsuspecting place. It is a neatly decorated and organized, quaint little place, packed full of Peruvian wonders. The offerings here are handmade chocolates of all sorts, jams, jewelry and some clothing items. We even found a children's book about Maine and its wildlife that we saw featured on a hiking trail in Southern Maine earlier this year that we were intending to buy and so we did.
We were looking for fudge and while we didn't find that, everything else offered here appears to be top notch. So much to see in such a small place I'm sure we didn't see it all. The chocolates are excellent, possibly the best I've ever had. So many choices of flavors and types. A new flavor item displayed was the strawberry wine truffle, simply elegant. I very much recommend them.
While all of that is overwhelming enough to take in for a first visit. Perhaps the real essence of this place that makes it such a gem is Monica herself. When we first walked in the door she greated us warmly and asked if this was our first visit. Having answered her that it was she went on to describe and explain what we would need to know to find the items we were looking for. At first it seemed like just what I would expect from a small shop owner operator, but then her charming Peruvian way blasted past all of my expectations and I felt more like I was visiting a specialty store that was actually my grandmother's secret passion. We weren't even looking for jam, but she offered a sample while she showed us in the adjoining kitchen area where she explained how she was getting ready to make another batch and what it is made from. Just incredible the passion and exuberant character of this woman. She is a genius confectioner and marketer of her wares in such a natural and charming way. I'm sure she can't offer everyone a tour of the kitchen and a sample of the goods but she makes it seem as though she attempts to as much as possible.
Like the statements of many other reviews it is a unique find of a shop you just have to experience it for yourself.
Awesome little chocolate shop. They're on the pricy side, but this is an excellent chocolatier and worth the cost! Not only are they tasty, but their presentation is beautiful as well.
Bonus points that there are adorable Peruvian goods to buy there as well. Many alpaca themed goods as well as bird or turtle ornaments. Additionally, there is some stunning jewellery there and I'm not even a jewellery person.
I'll most certainly be back when I'm inevitably in the area again -- next time with my friends in tow!
My husband and I went and bought many different flavors. Sugar free too as I'm diabetic. My oh my oh my! They were ALL so wonderfully super smooth and tasty!
