Review Thai Pepper Restaurant - Lubbock

Pedro Macias
I had the Pad Thai... it was kinda dry, I ordered medium it came not even mild at all. My wife ordered the chicken fried rice and vegetable rolls. The fried rice was very dry, but the egg rolls were delicious...not enough sauce especially for three rolls. It took delivery service 2 1/2 hours before it was delivered. The delivery service said they picked it up 15 minutes before delivery but that the restaurant was so behind that they had to turn away people because they couldn't keep up. This place is a toss up as to eat there but don't get it delivered. Not sure about picking it up either. It is a hit and miss establishment. Take a chance or not.

Best pad thai in Lubbock? I think so! Wife said the fried rice was best in town too. AND we happened upon them when they had mango sticky rice! Being a very popular, small, locally owned business, you expect a wait. Staff was friendly. Food was flavorful. Space was nice and clean! The awards displayed on the wall speak for themselves. Thai Pepper is ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This place was amazing!!!! - The food was delicious and the portions were big. We came from another state and have been looking for a really good Thai place for almost a year and a half. We were happy to find this place it will be our go-to Thai place from now on!! They open at 11 so Small suggestion, If you don't get here before noon you're probably not going to a table. So maybe get it to go....as there was a line out the door after 11:30. This shows us this is the best place in town. The staff was so friendly and accommodating even though they were swamped. Thank you we'll be back again, the food was amazing, the place was clean, and loved everything about it.

this place is fireee. i crave the orange Thai Tea all the time! everything is so good. my favorites are the beef kool special with fried rice, combo pad thai, the spring rolls, & the cream cheese won tons!
Ferrin Bundy
Authentic, flavorful, and mind blowing food owned by a kind couple. I literally drove ten hours to eat some! This place is a must when in Lubbock, TX!
Hayden Mohr
It's pretty good food! It usually comes out quick too. You have to physically go to the restaurant most of the times though to order takeout because they really like to leave their phone off the hook intentionally so you cannot call it in.
Micah Valdez
One of my favorite places to eat. Medium spice is the only way to go! make sure you get the beef egg rolls!! There usually is a long line and expect a decent wait time but it is so worth it!
Robert Dixon
Great food, big portions, and a great server as well. I'd suggest either getting there early, or ordering your food to go. The place gets very busy by noon, and large parties will be waiting for a long time if they want to sit together. There are only 9 tables, seating 4 ppl each. Portions are enough to share, at least with the pad thai and yellow curry. Overall the best Thai place we've found in Lubbock.
Frances Lofley
Great food & great service! Family restaurant
Jennifer
Love the Extra Spicy Kool Special. Would recommend but they need to stop taking their phone off the hook when they get to busy with orders. Isn’t that $$?
J Smith
The food is good but the waiter was very unfriendly today. He threw our plates down on the table and had attitude, almost like we inconvenienced him. He also treated me like I was an idiot when I wanted to order something... "This isn't like Chinese food." I'm aware that I am in a Thai food restaurant, thanks... It's a shame because the food is always good, too. We didn't feel very welcomed. But, on a good note, the cashier was very friendly.

Love this place. Pretty authentic THAI food. Spartan interior, but the food more than makes up for it. We had Thai salad with shrimp, soup, and two noodle dishes. Definitely coming back!
Libby Strickland
The pad Thai was great! Egg rolls were ok. I really enjoyed the cream cheese wontons. Overall I liked it! It's small and cramped but aren't all Thai food places?
Austin
Great food but very busy and chaotic at lunch. They have odd hours so you better go right at lunch. Waitstaff are very nice and helpful. Fish tank needs to be cleaned up.
Bryan Dunn
Reliably very good food - can be crowded due to space constraints.  Lots of pick-up orders (perhaps for that reason).   Making no claims as to how it stacks up with restaurants in major markets - but for LBB it works well.
Jennifer
Great food. Service not so great. Best to pick it up. Restaurant is small! I would rate food a 5 and service 3.5. It's not always bad, but it is more often than not.
David Kerr
They give you about 35 grains of rice for the curry but overall it wasn't terrible as far as Lubbock Thai food goes. I'd just rather eat  curry over rice rather than eating it like a soup.

Lunch on a very busy Monday.<br/><br/>Arrived to find the parking lot packed. I think they were all at Thai Pepper. Usually a good sign.<br/><br/>Struggled to find a table that would accommodate our 2.5 member party. Place absolutely slammed, and the two waitstaff just couldn't keep up. I don't think I saw them pause for breath the whole time we were there.<br/><br/>After a solid 5-10 minutes waiting for the table to be cleared, wiped down, and the extra chair moved to a safe place, we surveyed the menu. Interesting mix of Thai and other "Asian" cuisines. Strange basket of fried wontons arrived with a sweet chili sauce for dipping. I thought the name of the place is "Thai Pepper." Hrmph.<br/><br/>Pork Larb and Pad Thai soon arrived at our table, and we tucked-in. <br/><br/>Larb was excellent. Great flavor with freshness that really took me back to my days in Udon. Requested spicy, but received somewhere around medium. Should've requested "American Hot" or "Thai Mild" as they understand in the "home country."<br/><br/>Pad Thai was middle of the road. Strange sweet aftertaste was off-putting. "Pretty good," but nothing to write home to Mom about.<br/><br/>Service was OK, but somewhat curt. An additional member of waitstaff could have seriously reduced the stress level.
Curtis Krebs
Disgusting. The watered down curry, flavorless and void of spice is hands down the worst thai cuisine I have ever encountered in my life. I asked the waiter for spices. The waiter told me to approach the counter and scoop spices from their 'tray'. The tray was empty albeit three soggy, discolored jalapeno slices. I am shocked that anyone would write a positive review for this restaurant . Having eaten thai and indonesian cuisine at home and abroad I can safetly guarantee you that this is the worst excuse for curry/satay to which i have ever born witness. If you go to Texas tech and don't mind slime on the walls: bon appetite. But if you are a self respecting human being; do yourself a favor and avoid wasting $6.99 on skimpy servings of rice and watered down garbage. And nothing against cotton farmers, but whoever gave this restaurant a positive review... Please travel outside of Texas before you consider yourself a thai connoisseur.<br/><br/>Idiots,<br/><br/>That is all

food is always amazing. the only complaint I have is that their phone is always busy and if it's not they take forever to answer. love the food I understand that they're busy but service could maybe improve

I've eaten at every Thai establishment in Lubbock, yet I always come back here. I've never had a problem with the staff or getting my food (then again I'm not an overly difficult, stuck-up Lubbock yuppie). If you're a DFW/Houston/ATX/San Antonio transplant here for school and yearn for the taste of your coveted "hole in the wall" Thai restaurant then look no further. The Pad Thai is tasty, all the curries are on point, and appetizers are generally good too if you don't fill up on the "chips" and sauce first. Prices and portions are generous. No it's not the fanciest place in town, but who needs atmosphere when there's an older Thai couple dishing out the some of the tastiest food for miles. <br/><br/>The only downside for the generation unaccustomed to carrying cash is that they only take card payments for orders over $10. So come with cash or add an appetizer.
Sidney Elyse Giesie
Today I went and got Garlic Chicken. This place was wonderful. They give you a choice of how spicy you want the food, they give you these little chip things that are the bomb.com, and even though it is a small place my drink was never empty. The only bad things was that it is a small place and it seems to be busy and packed most of the time. They also have a minimum of $10 for a card transaction. The food is priced well though and it is really filling.
Steven Le
Amazing, quality food at a really cheap price! My only complaint is that the restaurant is completely packed during lunch since it is a small restaurant, but, if you have time, it is definitely worth the wait! I had the spicy Panang Curry and my girlfriend had the Pad Thai for our first time here. Very tasty! The free basket of fried wonton wrappers pair perfectly with their sweet and sour sauce. I definitely recommend this place to anyone wanting a great, affordable meal!
Kim Pendergast
I won't be the first or last person to say that this is hands down the best Thai restaurant within 60 mi of Lubbock!! If you get there too late you will most likely miss out on the fresh wonton chips!! But if you go at lunch hour you will be fighting for tables due to it being free seating
April Guinn
I love this restaurant! #17 medium for me (Tom Kha Gai or chicken coconut soup). The staff is nice and always makes whatever we order perfectly! My family loves everything they have tried so far and I have got friends as addicted to their food as I am. It's a gem in the rough.

Slay Thai Pepper SLAY!. This isn't the place to go if you feel entitled to anything and if you want your ass to be kissed, to be honest. The staff is cool, they're very chill and helpful if you aren't sure what to get. The Ginger Chicken is so good, and of course you can't go wrong with Pad Thai. For the negative reviews on here, in all honesty, you all just sound like up tight rude people to have to serve. It's a local business and it is very good food!
Ashdalgleish42
Favorite Restaurant of All Time. Although the service is pretty bad, it's a small room so you can get anyone's attetion quickly. To be honest, I've been eating at Thai pepper for years and the chicken fried rice is so good it doesn't even bother me anymore.
Raider Red
All around Horrible, period.. Horrible service, rude employees that could care less and are doing you a favor to stand there and take your order, to slop put on a plate. There is several other places in Lubbock that have far better Thai food and employees that make you feel welcome. One is on 34th and Toledo. Do not believe the ratings. Avoid this place.
Heather_g99
Great for the most part.. You are going to have better luck going inside rather than calling in a pick up order because they never answer the phone. I just placed my order to go at the cash register. I love their pad thai lol.
Sydney Marney
They'd be great. If they'd LEARN TO ANSWER THE PHONE

If at first you don't succeed. I went today to try the Pad See-Eiw and I was terribly disappointed. My co-worker convinced me that the food is really good and I agree, her dish was very good but my dish had the potential to be good. At first bite, it was delicious, but after that, I kept tasting a burned taste. My whole dish had charred pieces of pepper flakes in it and it made my whole dish unpleasant. I will not say that it was horrible because as I stated, her dish was wonderfully delicious but mine, it deserved a date with the trash can. I will chalk it up to them being busy.

Weekly Staple food!!!. I LOVE this place. The venue is too small, and it is far too busy for the staff to handle. When we go, we just jump on the first available empty table. This usually means we have to sit at a dirty table with someone else's dirty dishes on it for at least 10 minutes. The staff are friendly and do the best that they can, but through no fault of their own, the service is slow and not very good. However, I will go back EVERY WEEK because I am so in love with the medium shrimp pad thai! It's amazing. Heads and tails above all other pad thai dishes I have had at other thai food restaurants.

Worst Experience. I had one of the most terrible experiences I have EVER had with this place. <br/><br/> I placed an order to go and when I arrived home with it I had gotten two soups instead of one soup and a panang curry. I called and was assured that this was correct, but still felt unhappy. So I went back and and was told that yes, this was a mistake. So they remade my order of panang curry, but when I got home it happened again. The two containers looked, smelled and tasted EXACTLY the same! I called and spoke to the manager and was told that yes, this was the way their curries looked. Like a soup-y mess.<br/><br/>Why in god's name would you pour thin soup made of milk, lime juice, curry powder, and chicken bits over rice? This is NOT curry! It's SOUP! And not even good soup! If I wanted soup I would order soup. <br/>The rest of our order was just as bad. The egg rolls were tasteless and mostly fried dough, the pork wontons were like eating rocks because they'd been fried too long, and the moo goo gai pan was a slimy, salty, watery mess.<br/><br/>Also, it was clear that nothing in our meal was actually cooked on site. It was a nasty mix of canned foods.<br/>I ended up ordering a pizza.<br/>Will never go back and would NEVER recommend.

Can 't believe I waited this long.... I have been a resident of Lubbock for over 35 years. I have seen Thai Pepper get amazing reviews and tried to eat lunch there once and the line was out the door. So I tried again today. The next time the I come and the line is out the door, I'll wait!<br/>My wife and I shared a Pad Thai and a Yellow Curry Special. Amazing layers of flavor that amazed me with their complexity. Their prices are excellent and the service is quite quick especially considering how busy this little place is. I cannot say enough about Thai Pepper. I will be back time and again.

Love it!!!

Seeing a high percentage that this place earned on US, I've decided to try Thai Pepper. Instead of a restaurant, it has a more cheap eat ambience - which is fine with me as long as the food was good. <br/><br/>I ordered yellow curry with chicken. I haven't been to a place that destroyed the yellow curry. But Thai Pepper did. My food arrived in 10 min or so. Some curry got spilled over the plate from the smaller curry bowl but that's not a big deal. I had a puzzled feeling as I saw the dish. The curry seemed to hand very thin texture. <br/><br/>After a bite, I realized how flavorless the curry was. It lacked spices and umami. It was more like a broth with some premade curry paste desolated in it. The tiny chicken pieces were overlooked. And the potatoes were undercooked and had strange odor - probably they were cut and frozen with a regular freezer not with a commercial freezers that allow immediate freezing. <br/><br/>It might be that they had a bad day but I want my food to be fresh at least. I don't think I will go back.

Awesome Food and Great Staff. I grew up eating authentic Thai food and after moving to Lubbock I never thought i was going to get the same Thai food i grew up. I have tried every Thai restaurant in town and Thai Pepper beats them all. I love the pad thai and fried rice. I always recommend Thai Pepper to friends who want to try something new.
Culinary Stuff
This is a small place that packs a punch, culinarily speaking. I had their Panang Curry and Cream Cheese Wontons. <br/><br/>Both were great. The wontons were fried perfectly and have to be some of the best I've had. The sauce served alongside had a distinct citrus taste that cut through the rich flavor of the cream. <br/><br/>I really liked the curry, although a bit too spicy for me. It had a great layered flavor and the chicken pieces were just right. <br/><br/>Overall, an enjoyable dinner and awesome service. Looking for to the next trip.
Miguel
Bad food. I oredered combi fried rice that took forever to be served which was understandable because of their workload but was disappointed me is the burnt meat and the very salty flavor of rice. i couldnt almost eat it but because im really hungry i just ate half of it.

Disappointed for the first time. I went their with my boyfriend and I normally love Thai pepper but our experience was terrible. We waited 10 minutes for drinks and then 30 for our food (normally they are much quicker). Two people sat down behind us during our meal and got their food way before we did. I got the green curry which is always good, but our server spilled it onto my plate before I even got it. My boyfriend got Chow Mein and it was crunchy??? like so crunchy that he couldn't eat it..I know that was not like any Chow Mein I have ever seen and it wasnt good. We wouldve sent it back but we were in a hurry. I really like Thai Pepper but I will probably take a break after this experience... Hopefully next time it will be much better.
Youllneverguess
Easily the best Thai in Lubbock. Thai Pepper is fantastic, particularly the pad see ew, panang curry, and spicy shrimp. Plan early, be there when the doors open, and expect to wait anyway. They have carry-out, but getting someone to pick up the phone to take your order when they are busy is a gamble. Like an earlier reviewer said, no one shows up for the service. The staff tries their best but it's just too crowded and busy - but the food more than makes up for it.
Sheila
Phenomenal curry. We haven't tried anything but the curry the three or four times we've been there so far... it's difficult to go for anything other than the curry fix!
ShellbellNjoelypoley
Yummy. We've heard many great hings about Thai Pepper and decided finally to try it. It is very cheap and both of our dishes turned out great! Everything came out very quickly as well. Will definitely return!
Laura
Love Thai Peppers food but they have the worst service. The do not answer their phone for to go orders and their service in the store is even worse. If their food wasn't so good they would be out of business.
JC
Hands down best in Lubbock. The very best Thai food in the city!! Others come close, which is whbI dont visit here much...The problem with Thai Pepper is of course when they are open, most thai places are wierd and are closed Tuesdays for whatever reason, Thai Pepper I believe closes at 5 or 6 or something.. They mainly hit the lunch crown in the hospital district. And man do they, good luck..the line is usually 8-10 ppl deep from 11am til 4pm everyday. The wait and the hours generally keep me away...But when I feel frisky, Ill line up.
Charlie
My wife and I love this place. Pad Thai, sweet and sour soup, curry, it's all great!! The only complaint we have is you never know when they will be open.
TiffanyW
Loved it!!!. Went to eat here for the first time tonight with a group of friends and loved it! Great food, great service. Wish the location was bigger but a wonderful experience!
Imafoodie
Nom Nom Nom. The pad thai is the best in town. For everyone that complains about seating... call it in to go. It's always worth the wait. The yellow curry isn't bad either. Staff is helpful when you ask questions. For Lubbock, TEXAS you can't get much better authenticity that Thai Pepper.
Ubermench00
Pretty Good. Still a fan of this place. Also consider trying the pork Larb- very tasty and not too heavy. The owners of this place go to Thailand for a month EVERY year- so you definitely know that they understand what true thai is- although they do adapt some things for the american palate. There are a number of native Thai people here in Lubbock(Resident Physicians at UMC) who say that the food at Thai Pepper is decent. As I read some of the reviews here on Yelp, it is clear that some reviewers have no clue as to what authentic Thai is. If your're going to a Thai restaurant and ordering/reviewing cream cheese wontons, yup I'm talking to you. Portion sizes are fair- I have no doubts as to why Texas is one of the most obese states in the nation if people are complaining about the portion sizes here.<br/><br/>I have lived in the San francisco Bay Area for most of my life so I've had my fair share of good asian food. Thai Pepper is a solid place to eat Thai food- especially for the price. It definitely should satisfy your craving for Pad Thai, Yellow Curry, or Thai fried rice and most of the menu items taste great. The person who said that this place is spicy definitely has NOT been to truly authentic Thai restaurants. True "Thai Hot" is on a completely different scale than what the "spicy" level at Thai Pepper is. While when you order "spicy" at thai pepper it gives you a good amount of flavor with a decent kick, it pales in comparison to what "Thai Hot" is. This was obviously done to cater to the typical customer at Lubbock who probably can't tolerate traditional levels of Thai spice. Either way, definitely one of the top places to eat thai in Lubbock.
Rooster
Volcano soup!. Its effin!! freaking awesome but i prefer chicken noodle from bangkok nothing like it !! i eat there at least once a week Taco the owner is a straight grillin' gangsta!!!
Harrison Ko
The food may be good for people who have not tasted real thai food. I am from california and have enjoyed thai spices. When i tasted spicy pad thai in midland, it was okay. Thai grand ma is cook there. I just recently moved to lubbock and saw thai pepper review, i could not wait to taste. I took my whole family past monday, but the dishes (4 dishes including noodle soop) was terrible. I wondered if real thai actually cooked. All 4 dishes had common taste: sweet and sour. All american version of thai dishes. This is. Inland city without diversity, but the dishes are way far from thai taste. Hopefully this writing may help them to improve the quality of thai dishes.

Love #34 Chicken fried rice.... Love #34<br/>Chicken fried rice is best in town. Wait is difficult and staffing insufficient for peak times but food good!
Emm
I crave it. This place is so busy. Busy enough to close for weeks during summer break, and I was very disappointed to read the hand written letter while experiencing hunger pains. The prices are decent, the food is tasty, and there are quite of few solid dishes to try there. For me, the food is a little on the salty and oily side but for my fellow diners it seems to be just right.
Daniel Cunningham
Great cheap eats!. Great food, good prices, Slow service (because they are always busy)- Awesome place!
John
Surprisingly bad. I heard a lot of good things about thai pepper and they seem to always be busy so I was happy to try them out. I ordered the Thai Curry and received about a cup of white rice to be mixed with a very watery curry soup with some potatoes and chicken. There were only a few small pieces of chicken that were dried out, but it was the soup that really ruined it for me. It tasted like sugar water mixed with a small amount of curry. I could only manage two bites before dumping the rest in the toilet. If the quality of the rest of their food is even ten times better than what I had then it's still not worth the money. I won't be back.
ForexTexan
Best Thai food in Lubbock. The restaurant is small, so try to go when its not lunch or dinner rush or you will have to wait. The reason you wait is because it is sooooo good. Thai pepper is quickly becoming the most popular thai restuarant in Lubbock. Service is quick and obviously the food is fantastic. Try Pad Thai, you will love it.
Gary Moyers
Volcano Soup. Enough said. Except for saying that until they reprinted thier menu, it was called the Vocalno Soup. As a vocalist, I found that hilarious.
Kris
Yes, Please!. This is always a go to for my friends and I when we are craving some really good Thai food. The only problem is the seating situation. They have enough business to expand but they just won't. If you are in a rush and you want this for lunch go early, or you might have to wait awhile for a table. The food is usually worth it though!
BK Strickland
What's not to like? Love their noodles! Just the right spicy. ;)
Palmerboy 2000
Saturday Lunch. Met a friend of mine who had wanted to try Thai Pepper on Saturday for lunch. I had been to Thai Pepper previously, and enjoyed it. I had forgotten what a great menu they have. Great delicious food, and moderately priced. The only drawback is the small space. Definately get there before the lunch/dinner crowd starts to arrive because it gets crowded very quickly and easily. I had the Spicy Chicken which was just as great as the first time that I had eaten it there. The Fried Cheese Wontons are some of the best in this town ! I will continue to patronize this wonderful establishment despite the small size of the restaurant itself.
Kristie
Got off to a rough start with it being packed, people fighting for a table and general chaos, but I have to admit, the food was pretty darn tasty. Avoid during any rush.
Dinnerinpoland
Love it. Sometimes I want to cry because the food is so good.
Durancarly
Great food. LOVE it. Wish it were bigger.
Superfreak4468
MMMM!. I love thai pepper. Delicious pad thai and chicken coconut soup! I've never had a problem with the service, always great to me! seating is limited but the coziness is part of the charm, i usually get take out to avoid potentially not having a seat
David Perez
The Thai Food is Great. This place has some great Thai Food, the food is simply great and is not that expensive. They have many types of food you can get.
Dr.Chris
Best In Town!. Best Thai food in town. Family owned and operated. Expect to wait during the lunch rush. Seating and space is limited. Try to go after 1:00pm to beat the crowd. Everything on the menu is excellent! My favorites are the Pad Thai and Tom Ka Gai soup.
KB
Yuck. I do not know what the hype is all about. This was one of the worst Thai food restaurants I ever dined at. The service was rude. The restuarant seating was too scrunched together and the food was not good at all.
Renee.benton
Deserves the Hype!. Growing up, my grandmother took me to countless asian resteraunts in southern california as part of her indoctrinating me into loving excellent food. Thai Pepper is as good as anything I have ever had on the west coast as an adult or child. The Pad Thai is epic beyond measure, and they are happy to make it vegetarian for me (ask for no egg, add vegetables and tofu). The curry is delish, not overwhelming but also not bland at all. The spicy red noodles, which I cannot remember the name of offhand, are very good- spicy, sweet and savory. I have never had anything short of excellent food and service here. Will be taking grandma when she visits this month :)
Nohelia Chavez
HORRIBLE service and my dish wasn't even good. I would never suggest this place to anybody.
Justin Franks
Awesome food. This place always has good service and great food but there is limited space.
Lazerface
Great place to eat! The pad thai is fab!!
Lynsie Johnson
I've only had the pad Thai noodles (spicy) and the cheese wontons, but let me tell you, nothing compares! my husband and I don't live in Lubbock but when we come to visit our friends, this is the first place we come to eat!!!! Our mouth waters the whole two hour drive!! The flavor is amazing, whatever sweet/spicy sauce they use is sooooo delicious! I can't wait for our next trip!!
Yummyeats
The ice coffee and ice thai tea was definitely on the sweet side. But every waitress makes it differently. I had the pad thai...which was very good. There was also a good amount of shrimp. However, the appetizers were a bit disappointing. The fried beefspring rolls were tasteless and to dry. The satay chicken on skewers were dry and the sauce was to much like peanutbutter. Probably won't ever go again
Amy.prause
Thai Pepper is AWESOME!!. A friend introduced me to Thai Pepper about two years ago, and I absolutely loved it! The food is great and the low prices are amazing. The Pad Thai (medium) tastes very good and is one of my all-time favorites. The Ginger Chicken (medium) is also one of my favorites. Their curry soups are delicious as well. The service is good, however expect to wait when they are busy. It is often hard to find a table at peak lunch and dinner time hours but it's well worth the wait. I have never had a problem with them messing up an order whether it's order-in or take-out. I can always expect a good experience when visiting Thai Pepper. Try it out!!
Wakawaka
Cheap and Delicious. The spicy pad thai is delicious. Definitely worth the price! However, the service was once terrible: one time my friend called to place an order, but they picked up the phone and simply hung up immediately. It was a Friday night, so I guess they were too busy to take phone orders. But that in no way justifies that sort of rude customer service. Despite this incident, I still go back for their pad thai. It is THAT good.
Clark Dean
Best Thai period. The place may be small but the prices cannot be beat!
Purist
Order for pick-up from this hotspot!. This place is always busy! I love the coziness of the tables and the loud lunchtime chatter. It's hard to find a seat here. The Thai food is also good and so is the service. I do try to stay for a table if I can. Usually though, I either wind up placing an order over the phone for pick up or I take it to go. I've recommended Thai Pepper to co-workers and co-workers visiting from out of town.
Rod Lyons
Awesome Thai Cuisine. If you want to get seated, arrive early! The food is phenomenal!! Everything we had tasted great, but there were a couple of things that were a bit frustrating. First, we were the first customers of the day and the appetizers came out way overcooked - slightly burnt. In my humble opinion, I feel the portions are a bit small, and the last thing is that they are terrible at keeping drinks refilled. I will say, though, that the taste and quality of the food makes these minor frustrations easier to overlook.
Aims
No seating. The food is good but there is very little dining room seating so get there early for lunch or call it in to go. <br/><br/>I wish they would move to a bigger location but that seems to be the death of family own resteraunts is trying to go too big. What they have works for them and they are in a good location with the hospital next door.
ShinerGuy
Best Thai in town. Favorite Thai food ever. Get there early for lunch
Ben Love
My favorite Thai food place to date! Great service and even better food. Their soups are perfect and the fried rice is better than most places IN Thailand... I suspect...
Texas Lightnin'
Great Thai Food. Always busy but usually not a long wait for a table. Pad Thai, Kool Special and Hot and Sour Shrimp Soup are favorites.
Jeremy C
Grade A Thai. The Thai food here is wonderful. The service is pretty good, the prices are cheap. It's a little difficult to get to and sometimes it's very busy for a small place. Overall I highly recommend this restaurant for Thai.
Maggie Davidson
Great Food; Mediocre Service. I love the food here but the wait staff is always so overwhelmed its hard to get any kind of good service. <br/><br/>The food tastes great, usually tastes fresh and is made to specification. I really like the gai yang and the pad thai. Also their crunchy little appetizers are lovely.<br/><br/>However, the place is always so busy and the wait staff doesn't seem rude so much as overwhelmed with tasks. I once asked during a rare slow moment why they didn't buy a bigger location and I don't remember what the reason was but I remember it made sense. So probably this will not happen for awhile.<br/><br/>I suggest trying to go before or after the rush and don't be a stickler for attentive service if you eat in.
Jarrett Pallanes
The food is incredible everytime. No complaints there but plan on spending some time because it always has horrible, slow service. If you have patience, it's well worth the wait.
Nickzee19
Pad Thai the Best. Best, Freshest Pad Thai, more generous w/ shrimp than Thai Thai
Traci
Thumbs Down. I thought the service and food were both poor.
Heather.l.thomas
Unsatisfied customer. I went to this establishment today to order some food to go. The food was given to me stacked on top of each other in such a way that it burned through the container on the bottom and the contents spilled all over my vehicle. When I called to inform the manager that in the future they might like to put some napkins between the containers; I was repeatedly cut off and spoken over and then hung up on. I didn't even want the food to me replaced- I simply wanted them to remedy the error in the future with napkins between food containers. I will not be a returning customer, because I don't believe that rude behavior should be rewarded. Perhaps if they get new management I will resume dining there.

Pad thai. Was love at first bite. I have loved thai food ever since I first tried it, which was at thai pepper. Love tha pad woo sun, and more. :]

Good things come in small packages. I love this place. It has great food at a fair price and the service is always friendly. I have always found it to be neat, clean and orderly as well. Finding a table for lunch can be an extreme challenge since it is a little small and located adjacent to Covenant Hospital. They appear to do tremendous take-out business, but more tables and space would be a definite bonus.

Our favorite spot. It's not much for atmosphere, but man is the food great. We've eaten there many, many times and not once has the food been less than perfect. <br/><br/>We take people there and they are always astounded at how good it is. The next thing I know, they're repeat customers.<br/><br/>The Kool Special isn't on the menu, but it's on the special board behind you when you walk in. It's one of their best sellers. I prefer the pad thai though - extra spicy, along with a bowl of the best hot & sour soup I've ever had.<br/><br/>Order the thai tea as well when you're there. This place never disappoints.

Two words. ADD ON. If your establishment is always overcrowded...it might be time to either<br/>a. add on to the existing location<br/>b. move to a bigger location<br/><br/>Tried to go here at 2pm on a Saturday and it so packed we left.

Awesome Food. Consistently the best Thai food in town with the freshest ingredients. You don't go there for the service, but the food makes putting up with the down sides worth it. We just learn to work around the problem areas by getting there at 11am or 1Pm for lunch....much easier to get a table and we go at 5pm or 8pm for dinner ...no problem . Padd Thai is the best!!

Delicious. You have to get the pad Thai, it's to die for.

Excellent. I have never had a complaint. Always excellent and reliable. Not greasy. I love the curry.

The Jury's Still Out on This Place. The one time I went to Thai Pepper, it was for a mid-week dinner and they were really busy. We saw only 2 people working in the front, so the service was slow, rude and a bit awkward. They brought my friend something completely different than what she ordered, but corrected it quickly. I liked the food, but I don't have much experience with Thai food, so I don't have anything to compare it to. I'll go again, hopefully when it's not quite as busy.

Excellent food! Pad thai is always good. Guys at the counter are usually very RUDE and awkward.

Perfect Curry. I have been eating thai food for close to 10 years and this place has some of the best curry I've ever had. I'm from Houston and have eaten at some of the top thai choices in the city and this place puts most of them to shame easy. The spice in the yellow curry is perfection and the fried rice is served spicy. If you get takeout, the kid at the front can be a bit rude at times, but give this little place a try. You won't be disappointed by the food.

Arrive Early. If you are want to sit at a table arrive early...always a crowd at lunch time. Food is consistantly good. Grab a table when you arrive and a server will take your order. When you are finished, your check will be waiting at the cash register. The Chicken Curry is my favorite, and medium is plenty hot for me!!

Outstanding. I absolutely adore Thai Pepper. Just thinking about this place makes my mouth water. In a city where Thai food is widely available, Thai Pepper stands out from the crowd. Tucked away in a shopping center near Covenant Hospital, Thai Pepper offers delicious Thai favorites for reasonable prices. The ambiance is somewhat lacking. The service is excellent.<br/><br/>8.5/10.

You complete me.... There was a point in my life I ate here about 3 times a week. I was on a mission to eat everything on the menu and made it about 3/4 the way through. My favorite is by-far Kool's Special with double eggs (beef or tofu). Their tofu is simply the best I've ever tried, and I'm a die-hard carnivore.<br/><br/>Also, if you're more adventurous (and not on a date) I suggest the whole tilapia, eyes, skin, bones and all.<br/><br/>All the curries are good, especially the shrimp and coconut.<br/><br/>I usually get things "hot", but be warned that it really is hot, so most palates should stick with mild or medium.<br/><br/>Really, if you live in Lubbock and like quality fresh food, you should be there now. The service is great, all the people there are friendly.<br/><br/>To top it off are the jars of colored water, that have apparently been in the place since they bought it.<br/><br/>If Thai Pepper hit on me at the bar, I'd totally go home with it and make sweet, sweet love...

IT IS GREAT!. Our whole office loves the food. Wish there was a better menu on line!

Thai Pepper is basically a Lubbock institution. As another reviewer said, you have to try the Pad Won Seen (sp?).. I also love the Panang Curry and the Kool Special. The Pad Thai is good too but if you venture out of the typical thai staple and try one of these other dishes you won't be disappointed. :) Also for those of you that like tofu in your dishes, Thai Pepper (in my opinion) has the best tofu in town. If it not too bland, not too soggy.. just right.<br/><br/>Yes, the place is tiny but keep in mind that it is a family-run business. If it was any bigger the food would take forever! But the upside to this is the food is always consistent and delicious because the same couple has been making this food the same way forever. <br/><br/>Sometimes the servers take advantage of how good the food is and slack a little when it comes to going out of their way to provide good service because people still keep coming back again and again but I've also seen the way some people tip because they pay at a counter and don't have to face the server when they short-change them so maybe it's a "chicken or the egg" situation. However, being regulars for so many years (we have been known to go as much as 3 times in a 48 hour period) we know most of the servers and they know they will be taken care of when we are there so they are always so great.<br/><br/>Personally, I've given up even trying to call in takeout orders because I usually either get forgotten on the phone after being asked to hold or have to wait forever anyways when I get there so I'd rather just go up there.<br/><br/>Now, a lot of other reviewers have mentioned Bangkok on 34th. I have to agree that they are really good too. I have only tried a few dishes but when I am on that side of town, in a rush or on Sundays (Thai Pepper is closed on Sundays) we always go to Bangkok. I like their Pad Won Seen just as much as Thai Pepper's although having been a regular at TP for so many years I kind of miss walking in and knowing everyone behind the counter and stuff like that.
