The best deli in Lyndon area. I guess family run place. Everything is so fresh and tasty. Again I am vegetarian but for vegetarians also have lots of options. I like the traditional grill cheese a lot. Perfect balance of variety of cheese grilled perfectly.
They accept only cash and deliver above $15.
Everything I've had the opportunity to order was delicious! The Beethoven (grilled cheese made with added provolone and mozzarella, is one of the best I've tasted. Can say the same for the pork tenderloin sandwich (Marshall's Tenderloin) was succulent and juicy. The Ruben sandwich may be one of the best in Louisville! And don't forget their homemade soups!!!
GREAT PLACE! Phenomenal food!. I have ate starving artist cafe more then 20 times, I love it! I have nothing bad to say about this place and I am usually a tough critic! Great food, friendly service and delivery is always quick! I feel like I eat here everyday and it never gets old! Love it!
Lyndon's best kept secret. I dare anyone to find a better bowl of soup anywhere in Louisville. All soups are good... home made... and comfort food. The Reuben is good too... but always order soup.
This place has been locally owned and operated for 11 years since its opening. The food is great, meat is good quality, and delivery is an option. Call after 2 and delivery will be there in less than 30 minutes but during lunch hours I would call ahead, they get very busy, so plan ahead :) all of the soups are home made from scratch and often feature vegetables from the owners garden. My personal favorite is the Michael Jackson you can't get a chicken sandwich like this anywhere, and the smoked chicken salad... omg its awesome, I mean come on, who has smoked chicken salad? NOBODY BUT THE STARVING ARTIST.
This place is awesome for lunch. Affordable with quick, friendly service. My favs are the "Bob Marley" & the "Da Vinci" sandwiches and their chili is perfect on a cold day. Great local place to eat.
Will become a regular.. I was happy to find a restaurant other than Chinese and pizza that delivers to my area. Was even happier when I got the food. Delicious! Try the soups--fresh and so good! We ordered the Ruben and the chicken salad with pasta salad (YUM). Can't wait to try the other sandwiches. Brownies were moist and tasty. So very reasonably priced.
Simple. Good.. Not sure how long this place has been there, but I found it via all of the positive votes on Urban Spoon when I found myself with an appointment in the neighborhood.
I opted for the ruben special. The fries were good, as was the sandwich. Both were definately cooked for me. My only complaint is a little one. I ordered a coke thinking I'd get a fountain soda, but instead it was a can.
Small place with just a few tables, but in the time I was there reading the paper there were lots of deliveries going out the door, lots of folks picking up call-in orders and plenty of regulars coming in to have lunch.
Great little place that I've driven by hundreds of times without a thought. I got the Jimi Hendrix sandwich with pasta salad and it was great. The two guys with me really liked their sandwiches too. I'll be back...often.
Why Didn't I Try This Place Sooner. Moved here from Michigan 8 months ago, and pass this place every day on the way to work. I was really craving a BLT today and decided to walk in and give it a try. The dining room is small, but cozy. Owners are friendly and accommodating. I got the "Georgia O'Keeffe" and it really hit the spot, especially for only 6 bucks. I will be returning here.
Great Soup & Sandwich, Just Bring Cash!. Just tried SA for the first time yesterday and was throughly impressed. I'm not a sandwich person, but I plan on being back here for lunches pretty frequently. I had the rueben which had the perfect portions of each ingredient, really, perfect.
Access to the restaurant on this busy corner in Lyndon is probably the only draw back to the visit. The intersection is busy and the parking vary narrow.
Cards are not accepted so be sure to bring cash, or a friend with cash.
Starving artist cafe great food and great people. I have been eating at the starving Artist for years. I have always been impressed with their food, prices ( a big sandwich and chips with a pickle for 6 bucks!). My order from 1 sandwich to as many as 15 for my co-workers has always been right and the food great.
Go get a sandwich, you won't regret it!
CATERING, DELIVERY, CARRY OUT, DINE IN. This family owned restuarant is awesome. Hot sandwiches and homemade soups...A TREAT!
I use them a lot for catering (45+). The food is always tasty and there is plenty of it. The catering cost is VERY reasonable (they don't even charge a delivery fee so be sure to tip).
I have eaten in a few times as well. The dining area is small but comfortable.
They work hard to please.
Loved my first time visit here yesterday! Had the vegi salad and the vegetable soup ! Loved all the art and beautiful decor ! Quaint cafe with fun ambiance!
This is a great little place to stop. I always enjoy how friendly the owners are and quick the service is especially how busy they are when you walk in. I wish there were more businesses and people like this in the world. Food so good I had lunch there and got food to go.
Undeniably the best local sandwich shop in the city. Certainly better than all of the chains. The food is unbelievable and orders pop out quick. Local art is displayed for sale in the shop, as if the place didn't have enough personality. Grab a Mad Monet or a Ray Charles. Being cash only, the line turn over quicker, and not to mention the pricing is just fantastic given the value. They could double their prices and I would still be tempted to eat there every day.
The food here is always excellent!! I love when there is a table open to eat inside. A park is close by so take out is easy too!!

First time ever eating here. I ordered the Georgia O'Keefe sandwich and substituted my chips for the tomato spinach soup.
I am not exaggerating when I tell you that this was the absolute most delicious sandwich I have ever eaten. The ingredients seem like nothing special but how they prepare it is amazing.
They gave us free pickles too!
I forgot about the pie too. After we were already full, we demolished their berry cheesecake.
We will definitely be back.
What a great experience! Incredible sandwiches, and very friendly staff. We came in from out of town and got our food to go to eat at Holsopple Brewery. The Jimmy Hendrix was ridiculous - the chipotle mayo will be burned into my memory forever. So delicious. My egg salad/pimento cheese/bacon sandwich was sooooo much buttery delicious goodness. The potato soup was clearly made from scratch and was beyond amazing. Next we are in Louisville there is no way I won't be stopping here for some amazing food with a side of honest to goodness kindness.

Starving Artist offers a large variety of freshly made-to-order signature sandwiches and daily prepared specials including soup, sweets, sides. I ordered the Traditional Rueben sandwich with fries, and a Turkey Rueben for a friend and both were delicious. The presentation of the sandwiches in the to go box’s was nicely done and inviting. Obvious to me the restaurant takes alot of pride in the quality of what they serve
This is the best weekday lunch spot in the area. They have a huge menu with artist and musician themed sandwiches, wonderful soaps, good chili and luscious salads. They also have fries and burgers for when you feel like you need something greasy. They have high quality food for reasonable prices. It’s always from scratch and amazing. The decor inside is adorable with some seriously positively groovy vibes. Only caveat is they only take cash, but there is a Chase ATM just down the street if you need some.
Come on down the price is right!

Everyone's got ideas, here's mine - would be cool if they leaned into somehow getting more art into the room, also allowing for public submissions with names and locations and such.
You could show up just to order something just to sit and check out the art.
Just a thought, likely not feasible in that space.
