Review Himalayan Restaurant - Louisville

Anindita Barman
Visited on a Saturday afternoon for lunch with friends and ordered entrees of lamb masala, lamb sekua and garlic chicken tikka. All entrees were served with rice, naan, dal, alu matar curry and salad. I loved my platter and enjoyed all the items thoroughly. Two of my friends felt that the meat on their platters was not tender but I had no such complaints. Would recommend a visit.

I don’t understand the low reviews. We went on a Saturday around 1- no buffet but that’s what we prefer. Give this place a shot! Amazing and authentic food, super friendly service. We ordered 5 separate menu items and loved every single one. My husband had the Tandoori mixed grill entree, I ordered the Chicken Vindaloo and we had vegetable biryani (medium- nice amount of heat) and the cheese naan. For an appetizer we had the paneer pakora and vegetable Samosa which were great as well. We were able to try a ton of food and had plenty of leftovers for a very reasonable price. Average entree was around $10-15. We’ll be back!

Great lunch buffet. When we arrived the buffet was missing several items but we arrived close to 2 and the buffet closes at 230. I managed to fill a plate with hearty helpings with what was on the buffet. As previous people commented the selection was limited but the taste was exceptional. I enjoyed the rice which was not dry but moist and to perfection. I also had several of the chicken dishes on my first trip and the level of spice was fantastic. While my friend and I completed our first sampling the buffet was refreshed with items we missed the first go around. This is some of the best Indian cuisine I have had in a long while. The staff was great and kept our drinks full. I will be back.

My wife and I both love Indian food, so when we read that a new Indian restaurant had opened within walking distance of our house we had to try it out. We're glad we did -- everything we ordered was excellent. We plan to return often. I'm looking forward to trying out the lunch buffet.

Just enjoyed the lunch buffet. Not a huge selection, but the items on there were exceptional. Lots of great authentic flavor. The chicken marsala was perfect. I will be a regular. The only downside was the service was a little slow...took a while to get our checks. But I'm sure this will get better as they grow.

Wonderful food and service. My wife and I went her for the first time recently and loved it! While we don't eat Indian food very often we really do enjoy a great restaurant like this. The food was wonderful and the service was very fast and efficient. I was a little concerned about the buffet but the food was fresh and delicious. It was some of the best chicken Tikka masala we have ever had!

My wife and I love Malai kofta and have tried it everywhere. This place is among the best. Spicy chicken chili was also very good, lots of vegetables with the chicken. We really liked everything, and the portions were large, too. We will definitely be back often.

Great food, great service We had dinner here. We were seated promptly and given our choice of tables. The chicken mo-mo were delicious. Think of steamed potstickers with chicken sausage inside. Dumpling wrapper was al dente and filling well seasoned. My wife had the coconut lamb I had the chicken makhni. Both were flavorful, not to spicy and had a delicious sauce...yes we ate it all. I've read the reviews for this place and am surprised to find any negative comments. By all appearances this is an immigrant mom & pop restaurant, both working. For all of the "we love immigrants" rhetoric in the Highlands I don't see the support for this Family. This place should be much busier and maybe the naysayers should show some tolerance.

Absolutely loved it! Some of the best classic Indian buffet dishes I've ever had, with excellent garlic naan to accompany it. I especially highly recommend the Saag Paneer, and anything they make with okra in it! This will definitely be going in our family's regular restaurant rotation!

No hostess area or waiting area, the lady that ran the restaurant didn’t greet us but said oh we don’t have any tables, then said you wait? I asked her how long the wait was since my husband was still parking the car. She never answered,so my mother in law & I just stood there by the kitchen door. Finally the lady, across the restaurant in the bar area, motioned for us to follow to a table. She sat us with menus, we waited about 5 mins then a waitress asked us if we were ready to order. Being it was Indian we were not ready. So we ordered soft drinks, 2 types of naan bread & a cheese dish for an appetizer. She said is that all, we said for now, she took the order disappeared for a while and the brought us water. About 15 mins later I noticed we had not gotten our soft drinks or appetizers, also noticed no silverware. The First Lady came back after I motioned for her. She brought us silverware & napkins. Then 10 mins later our waitress came back and took our actual order. Our first impression of the service was that we were an inconvenience for not making a reservation. By the way we tried to call at 6:15 but no one answered the phone, About 15 mins after that, the food started to come out. We got a tempered style chicken & the naan first, then two of our orders came out right after that. We had to kinda guess what was what. We started to eat the chicken thinking it was the cheese we ordered, then my mother in law thought It might have been her dish because it tasted like chicken. After we decided it must be hers, her actual dish came out & we realized it was the appetizer, but it wasn’t the one we ordered. We kept it anyways and ate it. It was good. All the dishes were excellent. Well worth the wait. We finally got the soft drinks with our meal but they were canned. We didn’t see much of our waitress and had to flag two people down to get the bill & to go boxes. My only advice is to make sure you have time when you eat here. We sat down at 6:45 and left at 8:30. This restaurant is well worth the wait & the experience of different culture dinning. My recommendation for the restaurant is to explain how spicy the meals are, spend a little more time with your customers, and welcome them better when they arrive. I shared our experience to help you improve. We want to see you succeed, but please work on your service. I give you 4 or of 5 stars because the meal was fantastic.

Definitely in my top 3 Indian restaurants in the Louisville area, with matching menu prices. Good location, easy menu and excellent flavors. Parking might get tricky here, but that's Highlands for you. Mo-Mos here is closest to what you can get in India.

Great food and great service. If you aren't familiar with Indian cuisine, the staff is happy to help. The food really is fantastic. I've taken two people here and both were impressed.
