Had an awesome breakfast here one quiet Saturday morning. Waitress was so awesomely friendly and funny. On her suggestion I got the corned beef hash and eggs with potatoes and toast. So glad I asked - the corned beef hash was awesome. I was a little surprised I got the potatoes about a minute after the eggs and toast came out but I'm not complaining.
Would definitely go back again and recommend to anyone looking for a great diner downtown.

A classic that exudes old downtown LA. Great pastrami sandwiches, great deli meats all around. Lunch specials are always a steal and come out real quick. That being said, this really is a working mans lunch spot. You can expect to be get in and out in under 30 minutes and be completely full. The clincher? The best patty melt in the city.

This is a classic Jewish deli. It looks like a deli, smells like a deli, feels like a deli, and yes, tastes like a deli.
There were three of us, and despite its unnecessarily large menu (as most delis have) we all ordered the Pastrami Reuben. It didn't come with thousand island, but we soon corrected that and we were off to the races.
Everything was greasy, meaty and really filled you up . The fries were ok, a bit limp for my taste, and the fruit bowl was also exactly what you'd expect. No surprises and no let-downs.
The service was very friendly!

I go here when I'm hungry for a classic pancake/french toast breakfast for under $10. This downtown location offers many hearty breakfast options including steak and eggs and omelets. Because there are so many restaurants in the area, this place is never crowded and it's usually a good breakfast pick up before work.

Got a to-go order from here for lunch. It was the pastrami french dip. I'm not sure if it was because I got it to-go or what, but my fries were totally soggy. In addition, they did not provide ketchup or any utensils. Yes, I know I got a sandwich, but it kind of fell apart with the dipping and all and I needed a fork to finish the meal.
For the sandwich itself, it was okay, there was a good amount of meat and the bread was average at best. It was sloppily thrown together and came with a pickle. I'm certain the dine-in experience would have been better as the food would be fresher and the ambiance seemed nice.

My wife and I were visiting from Chicago. The service was spectacular. Our waitress knew all the regular customers names, and was beyond helpful and polite. The food was exactly what I would expect from a good deli. A very pleasant experience!

Seriously now.
Seriously, lets put this to bed already. Is it pronounced "York-Sher" or "York-Sh-i-er" like "The Shire" in Lord of the Rings?!?! Because the technical reading of it should be like how "The Shire" is read in Lord of the Rings where the "i" is pronounced as how it's read because you have an "e" at the end of the word.
For instance, "Wilshire", yes the street. Technically it should be pronounced "Wil-Sh-i-er" right? You can ask anyone from out of town who has never seen the street before, they will always call it that. I think it's an LA thing to come up with their own pronunciations of whatever words they want. What say you?!
Whew, now back to the review.
This place is pretty disgusting (not the food, just the location). Better rent a haz-mat suit to come here so you don't have to touch the 1921 sticky seats and tables. I had to take a shower after I left because I felt so nasty.
Example...take a look at the mirror hanging in the back right. How does a mirror that no one can touch even get that dirty?!

such great food, environment and workers-whoever doesn't like this, means they have a personality flaw.
what more would you want in a budget restaurant, it all measures up!!
