Blackwood Coffee Bar

A decent coffee shop near Runyon Canyon. The storefront looks small but it goes pretty deep inside with more seating space than it looks from outside. Modern and clean look, casual and cozy atmosphere, friendly service. I stopped by one morning and got an ok cup of flat white. They also serve pastries and breakfast items.

Me and my friend came in to get coffee at 3 pm on the dot. That’s when they close, so it’s definitely on us for not checking and just barging in last moment. As we opened the door the barista said they were only serving drip coffee and cold brew at the time which was fine by us. Would be even better if she smiled, said hello or didn’t look irritated. My hot drip coffee for $5 was lukewarm and when I asked her if she could add a bit more of hot coffee she said that was the best she could do because they were closing. That’s when we realized they were closing and her face made sense. My friend’s cold brew with oat milk was ok, neither tasty nor awful. Again, it’s on us for coming in the last moment but the attitude of the barista was definitely not appreciated as well as the quality of the drinks. Maybe don’t serve the last drops of the pot, just say you’re closed. The place looks really nice and I’m not sure if experience earlier in the day would be better. Not gonna be tempted to check on that anytime soon.

New to the neighborhood, this place is clean, cozy and the coffee is delicious. The staff are friendly and kind. They make their own almond milk in house and the breakfast food is freshly made in their small little kitchen in the back. Delicious. Great way to spend a quiet morning inside or take it to go on your way to work. There is a small outside seating area at the front which can get a bit loud with the Sunset road traffic but if that’s too loud for you, you can sit inside. Lots of space.

Loved this coffee shop! They had a number of unique and tasty coffee drink options as well as non coffee. I got an iced coffee beverage that had cashew horchata and chocolate bitters and it was so good! My husband got a drink called morning wood that involved cold brew, cinnamon, and toasted pecan that was also super good. Both still tasted like coffee and were not too sweet which I feel is ver hard to find! I’ve paid for plenty of expensive coffees that were mediocre or just fine but these I actually felt were worth it lol. Wish we had one where I lived.

A great drink starts with good ingredients so I was relieved I found this coffee shop! This café has everything from sparkling espressos to Latin cold brews, so there will be something for everyone!
