Charming classic french restaurant. The right amount of old fashion charm while clearly kept up to high standards and modern twists. It’s small and intimate inside with curtains on the booths if you desire extra privacy. The owner walking through the menu is interactive and help with the difficult decisions of choosing a few things. Ideal for sharing and sampling items. In house smoked salmon amuse bouche was a highlight. Onion soup and table side Ceasar were stars, to do over again I’d have opted for the salmon over the shrimp but that speaks to my preference of the two. It’s rich French food and a wonderful experience best for special occasions or just a nice treat.
Have been here numerous times over many years and it keeps getting better. There is a reason this is the best restaurant in the Valley. Peggy, Chris and the staff always take care of their guests. With only 10 tables, it is like being invited over to a friend's home. But, the food is the star attraction from the moment you settle into your table all the way through dessert.
The menu is limited to the very best of options. Escalopes of veal is my go-to, with mashed potatoes that put my mother's to shame. The Caesar dressing is made to order on a side-table in a wooden bowl. The owner pestles (yes, it's a verb, too) the anchovies and whisks the yolk to perfection. Classic french food and service. This is a little gem.
It's not listed but there is a beautiful cut of pork that was so thick and it was cooked perfectly through. The sauce it came with had wild mushrooms that were to die for. That's what my wife chose to eat and I couldn't stop picking from her plate. I had the Australian lobster tail which was seasoned so deliciously, much different than a normal straight butter and lobster with a little garnish. Don't forget to try the two appetizers we love, calamari greco and the escargot!
Despite living in the area for years, my wife and I had never even heard of Brandywine but based on the reviews I saw online, we decided to give it a try. And are we glad we did!
Owner Chris is old school French, with an accent to match, but a charming and hospitable host. Small portion of gavalax and dill cream was presented with hot bread at no charge - Yummy! We shared the burrata and heirloom tomato appetizer, which was great. My wife had abalone (hard to find these days), which was $55 but worth it and I had a large portion of Chilean sea bass. Both served on a bed of rice with delicious sauces and some sauteed green beans. And we shared a creme brulee for dessert.
Charming, small (about 30 seats) restaurant. Service was attentive without being overbearing. Not cheap, but worth the price with good sized portions of delicious food. Great for a special occasion.
We'll be back!
A very pleasant and intimate experience. 3 appetizers, 2 kir royales, 2 entrees, and 2 glasses of wine $200.00 on the button. The service was personal and incredibly knowledgeable. I loved it, though I can see how someone would say "you either love it or hate it." I give it a top food and service rating because that's what it deserves. The buffalo mozzarella was excellent as was the shrimp cocktail (homemade cocktail sauce) and fois gras.
The food is undeniably incredible. One of the very very few fine dining restaurants in all of Los Angeles that actually holds food and flavor over trendiness, fashion, or scenes. If you love good food and good food means more to you than any of that, then definitely make some time to stop here. It's well worth it.
The Foie Gras is some of the best I've ever had, even in Paris.
I'm pretty sure the menu is created daily based on what the owner bought that morning. This is for sure a valley gem. Anyone within a 50 mile radius needs to try this place. It's not cheap but worth every penny. Very small place I think probably 12 or 15 seats so make sure you call weeks on advance for a reservation.
The food was delicious, great service, cozy small restaurant so reservations is a must. French food that is tasty with nice portions. The menu list is presented on a board and changes nightly, so there is always something new to try.
I thought Brandywine was a really great restaurant. I had read all of the reviews and it met my expectations based on what I had read from most of the 4 and 5 star reviews.
I made a reservation the day before - i left a message and received a call back from Chris a few hours later.
When I arrived I was seated in a booth and immediately was able to order a drink while I waited. I thought that all of the staff were very attentive and helpful and were there immediately when you needed anything.
Chris came by to thank us for coming to his restaurant and talked to us about the appetizers first. Then he went over the specials and then the regular menu.
My impression was that the food was more like the food I had when I was in southern france vs paris. The food is heavy but very delicious. The sauces are amazing but were laden with butter. For me the food was authentic french based on the areas I visited in and around Toulouse and on my way from Toulouse to Chamonix.
Anyway we both stared with the softshell crab appetizer. Wonderful, lightly fried with butter and a hint of lemon and capers. My friend had the sweetbreads and I ordered the abolone special. I have never had sweetbreads but they were delicious. Tender and with a wonderful sauce. My abalone was also very tender and great. Each meal came with a side veg.
I think for a wonderful night out this is a great restaurant, it's a fun experience, and has great food.
