So consistently good
Let me start off by saying I have a bias against chain restaurants. That said, I love Bandera. The food is just great. There is tremendous variety and everything is well executed. It is always busy and lively, so a bit tougher than one might imagine to get a reservation. Live jazz music and a large, good bar.
Always, consistently excellant
Absolutely delicious! We come here every time we’re in LA. Super bummed that they discontinued their cornbread however. It was the most decadent thing on their menu. Hopefully, it will make a return. Bone in rib eye was enough for 2 and seared to perfection. Ask for extra Rutherford steak sauce, good stuff! Served with roasted tomatoes and blue cheese or the pomme purée that are the best mashed potatoes I’ve had. Hubby had the tri tip and enchiladas that aren’t a traditional enchilada but a vegetable/cheese version of the classic. Great sauce, flavorful without being exceedingly spicy. Tri tip right on point, juicy and tender. Followed by that banana cream pie that is not to be missed! Crust is slightly thicker with roasted nuts to support the weight of the pie. Cream slightly vanilla with the perfectly ripe bananas! Glorious....now just bring back the cornbread!!!
Not sure what some of the other (disgruntled?) reviewers are commenting on, as Bandera is fine! We started with the 'guac' which was so magical we had a second serve. Then followed up with the ribs. The meat fell off the bone, yet didn't suffer from being fatty nor 'wet', just perfectly braised. The sauce was thick and well seasoned while not being at all salty or too rich. I thoroughly enjoyed this dish.
The service is warm, attentive and very welcoming, while the surrounds and live music are just what the doctor ordered after a long day at work.
Also, do the meal justice by ordering their margarita (or two)!
Hard to go wrong. I've eaten at Bandera dozens of times with family, friends and out of town guests. If you don't like this restaurant, it's not their fault. The menu is consistently outstanding and does "upgrade" from time to time. You can't order a bad entree, appetizer or dessert. My one complaint is they don't serve Beefeater gin as they do at Hillstone. That one flaw is not enough to keep me coming back.
Live Jazz music while you enjoy excellent food. Try the Wagyu, outstanding
The best Rib Eye in California. Great atmosphere. The food is off the hook and incredibly afforable considering the location, ambience and TASTE!
Best thing I ever ate: banana cream pie
Always good dip trio is the Best
