Possibly the best Mexican I've had anywhere outside of Mexico! It was worth the half hour wait.

Service was friendly and efficient.

The guacamole was excellent and we loved the fact that it was made right in front of us. The Especialidad De La Casa was so good I couldn't stop eating even when I was stuffed.

Place was quite busy, as I understand it usually is. The beer was cold, great margaritas, the food tasted fresh, great service. I think the guacamole cart where they mix the dip to your specs is a bit gimmicky but it was enjoyed by most.

Mexican Honey Hole. In town from Memphis for work, we stumbled on Sol Y Luna out of pure, random luck. (Urbanspoon's phone app sucks). When we walked in, we saw one empty table so it instantly showed signs of local popularity. We got there with 1.5 hours left of happy hour and after talking to some kind folks sitting next to us, we apparently found a honey hole. The margaritas were out of this world. The guacamole was, without a doubt, the best I have ever had. It was made at our table, fresh, which was unique in itself. I had a few crunchy tacos that were amazing as well. I seriously cannot ever recall this great of a Mexican dining experience anywhere else in the country. We will definitely be back, probably multiple times before heading back to Memphis!

The Macha Plate. I mentioned in my review on Mexicali that Ventura Boulevard has a bevy of places to eat that I have not yet discovered, and yet really want to. One of these places was Sol y Luna, which I have driven past many times, but not eaten at, stating each time "I want to go there!!!"

Well I did on Friday. And it was so good they now probably have one of my favorite Mexican dishes of all time, the Macha plate. But I will get to that in a second.

Upon arriving, the place was packed. I mean filled to the brim. Good sign. My friend and I put our names down for a table and decided to get a margarita at the bar while we waited to be seated. The margarita was strong, but so good. The bartenders make it a lovely experience while you wait, and the atmosphere is incredibly lively. And then we saw it... tableside Guacamole. There is a guy who pushes around a cart of fresh lime juice, diced jalapenos, garlic, onions, cilantro, and tomatoes. His bottom shelf is full of fresh ripe avocados, and upon ordering the guacamole, he goes to work making your creation. The best part about having this tableside guacamole is that it is completely customizable. It may be apparent at this point that along with my addiction to cheese, I am addicted to onions. Once we had been seated and could order, Guacamole was the first thing I asked for. After the Guacamole man asked me "how spicy" I asked him for some extra onions. He winked at me to acknowledge an "I got this little lady" and proceeded to make the one of the absolute best Guacamoles I have ever had. It was so fresh and vibrant.

Stuffing myself on guacamole, I wasn't too hungry for dinner. But I powered through and ordered the Macha plate.... I had heard it was one of the things to get. I wasn't disappointed.

The Macha plate description; simply, shredded beef simmered to perfection with onions, tomato, and bell peppers. What I got was a plate filled with the most tender beef swimming in a jus I just wanted to drink. In the meat mixture were tender vegetables, along with a side of fluffy rice and pinto beans. And on top, a piece of broiled Mexican cheese... just sitting there, so gourmet and out of place with such a rustic dish, but completely necessary. Using the tortillas this meal came with, I made my own giant, juicy soft tacos. It was just incredible. I didn't even eat half my plate and ate the rest for lunch the next day. It reheated really well, making it an overall winning dish.

My friend got the standard two taco plate, with one soft taco and one crunchy taco. This was equally as delicious. I love just going somewhere and getting simple, homey, amazing food, that puts a giant smile on my face. I tip my imaginary hat to you, Sol y Luna, for making authentic Mexican food, that is delicious without all the extra fluff. The best food comes from the heart.

The Upscale of the Trio. Sol y Luna, Las Fuentes and Melodies are a classic trio of Mexican restaurants owned by the same family in the San Fernando Valley. If you are looking for the Los Angeles Mexican dining experience, you will find it here.
Sol y Luna is the dine-in-and-get-served-by-a-waiter restaurant of the 3. At Las Fuentes, you order at the counter and sit down. Melodies has a much more limited menu and is the size of a taco bell (although much better than a taco bell). If you arrive at Sol y Luna on a Saturday night, you might find that the valet parking lot is full and the wait is an hour. If so, you don't get much of a change in quality by going to Las Fuentes or Melodies and you will get by with spending less. All great food. All highly recommended.

The best Mexican food!. The food here is superb. In addition, the atmosphere is lively thanks to the wonderful decor of trailing vines, Mexican handcrafts, and great lighting!

Guac! Guac!. I went here a few days ago with a friend from high school, who suggested this place because of their guacamole.

Shortly after we were seated, a man cam around and made us guacamole to order. It was AWESOME! Very addictive, 5/5.

For my entree, I got a chile relleno which was good but nothing special. 3/5.

The service was very slow, and we had to wait a long time to get our check. 2/5.

Overall, 3/3.

Alright. I'm giving this place 4 stars but I'm never coming back. Don't get me wrong, the service was pretty good and the employees seem to get along. The food was good/pretty good but it's not worth what they are charging. I ordered the Molcajete for two and the Carnitas plate. I also ordered guacamole which was a little ghetto/tacky when I saw sign asking for tips on just the guacamole service. My margarita was terrible. I tasted cheap tequila. The tortillas are not made fresh there. I feel this place suffers from an identity crisis, the restaurant doesn't know whether or not to be casual or a fancy restaurant. I said I wouldn't be coming back because I could name 3-4 better tasting Mexican restaurants with better matching prices. This industry is competitive.

Superb ambiance. The food is tasty. A bit overpriced but overall was great. The guacamole cart is great. They come and make it in front of you.

A bit pricy, but overall good experience, good atmosphere, attentive service. The machaca was great and I definitely recommend it, the portion was decent and filling. However, the burrito was quite small for the 15ish dollars i paid. Maybe don’t get that. Horchata is also great. Would be super if they handmade their tortillas but other than that I enjoyed my lunch. Be aware that parking is limited and the lot behind the restaurant costs 8 dollars 😼

This place has been on my bookmarked list for awhile and many Yelpers have told me about it so I was excited to go. This is definitely one of the more popular Mexican food spots in the valley hence the long wait times. I put myself on the waitlist from home before driving over when I saw it was a 30 minute wait. When I arrived half an hour later they said it would still be another 20 minutes. I knew it would be busy because it was Friday night dinner. I definitely recommend getting on the waitlist as soon as possible because the people in line behind me were told an hour and a half wait, so do not eat here if you are in a rush. I shared with my girlfriend the shrimp ceviche, nachos, and pork sopes. They are popular for their table side guacamole that you can order as an appetizer for $14. Our waitress Paula was very nice and helped us make some choices for our meal. They have indoor and outdoor dining. No parking lot but they have valet parking behind or you can find metered street parking. Definitely on a busy street so plan to walk a little if you park further away.

The food was so bomb! We came here after a flight and waiting to check into our Airbnb so we had our luggage and they were accommodating of that which was great. I got the tableside guac (totally worth it & HUGE) and the enchilada and tamale combo plate. The beef tamale is was amazing and the rice is so good! Some of the best rice I’ve ever had 🙏 The drinks were strong and the shots were generous, I would definitely come back 🔥

For many years I have driven past this restaurant, never thought of visiting. Now I regret that I have really missed great food all these years. Great ambience , very friendly staff. I would recommend reservations on weekends.

Definitely one of the better Mexican restaurants in the valley. They used to be more 🐶 friendly for the patio(during crazy covid) now it’s service dogs only☹️Definitely get some table side guacamole 🥑!

This place is one of the best homely, slightly Americanized Mexican cuisine in the San Fernando Valley. Surprisingly, this place completely outshines its sister restaurants. Food is always served fresh and drinks somewhat flow from the bar. A very good time with friends and/or romantic enough for a date night. Recommend the Molcajete. It is by far the best thing on the menu. But the menu has other people pleasers also. Their grilled chicken is always juicy and never served dry. They do not take reservations, but accepts phone calls to put your name down. Which is recommended due to there always being a line to dine in. Service isn't the greatest. Could be due to covid staffing issues. I like the upbeat atmosphere of this place but sometimes, it can be a bit much. Not a fan of yelling across the table to keep the conversation going. If you're on a romantic date, I recommend sitting on the same side. Regardless, I'm a repeat customer.

This was our first time here, and we were seated immediately. The staff was very attentive, and the service was excellent. There were a variety of options on the menu, and the food was delicious. They make a delicious guacamole table side. I had the Mole Poblano with shredded chicken, which was very good. We will definitely return!!

They make Guac right in front of you!!!!! So fresh!!! I could feel the ingredients were fresh and high quality. Food itself was ok but I loved the interior and service. It felt like I was on vacation.
