Review Providence - Los Angeles

We sat at the bar and it was a great experience. Great atmosphere and service. Everything was fantastic. The only dish that we really didn't enjoy was the truffle risotto. Felt there wasnt much flavor and though they put a very healthy serving of white truffle, I can't say I really tasted anything. The uni egg though was amazing and the duck was also stellar!!! Every other course was equally good! Highly recommend anyone to go here

I went here for a friend's birthday and it was an incredible experience. From the moment you walk in, they take your coat and seat you before actually seating you at the table. I have never been served by so many waiters/ waitresses in my life. Every item of food was well crafted and balanced. Despite having multiple fish dishes, the were all unique from one another. Honestly, this is the only place so far who has prepared rockfish or swordfish to my liking. The scallop chip needs to be made into a regular snack because I would need it every week. If you need to go the restroom they will escort you there. Plates and utensils were changed out for each dish to enhance the experience. While this restaurant is pricey it is worth going at least once for the experience.

Amazed by the service we received, everyone’s professional, friendly, attentive yet gave guests their space. Highlight of the night were the sashimi dish (wonderfully pickled vegetables, loved the hints of passionfruit in the sauce), the sourdough bread and the chocolate dessert. The other dishes were nice too but presentation over taste, the 2 fish dishes (sea bass, swordfish) one after the other can be slightly repetitive, so with the choice, suggest to go with the duck or beef, tho the wagyu’s on the fattier side. Love the truffle pasta add on, fair priced for what’s offered. The whole dinning experience did relay a sense of sharing the love for food than just running a business.

I honestly can’t put into words how incredible our experience was here. From beginning to end the service was exemplary, the food was out of this world & the desserts were a true work of art. They are big on sustainability and reusing parts of food that are normally thrown out & I love that about this place. I absolutely loved how they personalized our menu at the top to say happy anniversary!! If you want 2 star Michelin experience, this is where you need to go. You will not leave hungry I promise!

I cant believe i havent been to this place before. This is something of a worldwide quality. Everythin, I mean everything we tried was fantastic. Thats an achievement. I have tried many michellin 3 stars and was many times dissappointed on the fakeness of things. This place also has a fantastic bar with best choices of spirits and wine. They keep bees on the roof to make honey for their cocktail. Omg. Basically a 5 star for everything. Good job!!

Providence restaurant stands out for its remarkable consistency in delivering an impressive array of flavors and dishes. The menu offers a delightful variety that caters to diverse palates, ensuring there is something for everyone. The attention to detail in the plating and presentation of each dish is truly exceptional, reflecting the restaurant's commitment to culinary excellence. The food itself is not only visually appealing but also incredibly tasty, showcasing the skill and expertise of the chefs. Moreover, the restaurant's interior design is distinctively captivating, adding an extra layer of charm and sophistication to the dining experience at Providence.

Delicious! Had the best dinner here- everything was good. The rockfish, scallop, halibut we’re amazing along with the wagyu. Great presentation and flavors. A must! Glad we came here.

Amazing restaurant. There's a reason why they have Michelin stars to their name. The food was amazing and service was impeccable. You get what you pay for here. Surprisingly, the seafood based dishes were the most delicious and the desserts were amazing. Carlos and John were awesome and made the night an even better experience. Overall, I have to recommend that everyone should try Providence at least once in their lives. Also amazing selection of whiskeys and bourbons.

My wife and I went here for our third anniversary this past weekend. From the beginning, it was a magical experience we had the honor of sitting at the chef's table and watching a bustling kitchen of focused, motivated chefs and sous-chefs prepare food until almost midnight. There are so many members that waited on us and insured that we were smiling during the entire dinner. The 8-course meal was exquisite although at least two or three other items were served. Definitely appreciate the option for a non-seafood item as part of the entree, but everything from the sashimi, oysters, lobster, to the duck, wagyu beef, and the mango dessert were succulent. Probably the best of wine I've had with any dinner as well. We wish we could have spent more at Providence. Please be prepared to spend at least two and a half hours to truly enjoy experience here.

This was one of my favorite dining experiences yet. Every course was such a hit. The macadamia/caviar course and the uni egg were both some of my favorite dishes that I have ever eaten, I was just in heaven with every bite. I had never heard of John Dory till I dined here, it was so fun to try a new fish and I was in love with the way that they prepared it! It had such unique and delicious flavors. The chocolate dessert was so delectable and the apple one was extremely refreshing. I really wish that they gave you menus at the end but I loved that they gave us a providence bag as well as some house made granola on our way out!

The food is precious and artfully presented here. Some men might complain that they leave hungry, but it is a treasure of a restaurant, and if you come here for a special occasion, they will give you a printed menu for your occasion to keep as a souvenir. Their wine list is excellent, as is all of their creative and beautiful seafood dishes. I highly recommend ordering the chef's tasting menu.

I enjoyed one of the best meals of my life at Providence. It's the kind of place you save up for... and it is worth every penny. The food is astoundingly good, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and the atmosphere is peaceful. You can actually hear your dinner companions speak. I went with friends and came away with a very happy tummy and memories for a lifetime.

Best occasion restaurant in Los Angeles unless you are wealthy enough to eat there everyday (in which case, go for it). Exquisite food and service, hushed interior without any stodginess. We do not drink alcohol and, unlike many other highly rated restaurants here or in NY & Paris, we weren't treated like unsophisticated knuckle draggers/cola drinkers for that. I can't remember everything we ate, but it was all delicious as well as beautiful on the plate.

Excellent food

It's a wonderful place -- excellent food. But for me, it's just too expensive. I guess Michelin stars mean you can charge a lot. But I'd rather pay a bit less and go more often.

Great seafood restaurant! Attentive staff, good selection of wines, very elegant interior, and nice atmosphere overall. The salt prawn that they cook right by your table was the highlight of our meal! We did find it a little pricey ($450 for two with wine), but I guess that’s expected from a two-star Michelin restaurant. I had a fantastic birthday dinner there!

“Let’s go to Pink’s after dinner, if we’re still hungry,” I told Catboy, knowing that there might be a possibility that we might have some room left in our bellies after a fancy dinner at Providence. I knew there would be about a 50/50 chance. Does anyone else ever do that? What is it about going out to a fine dining restaurant to eat overpriced fancy food that sometimes leaves more to be desired in the end, and then wanting to hop on over somewhere for a quick, cheap, fast foodish type of meal? Maybe it is a combination of the fact that fine dining is all about fancy presentation and tiny portions coupled with a subconscious need to restore normalcy. Unless you’re a baller shitting out money, a dinner at Providence isn’t an everyday meal. Plus, I was curious to try the Dodger Blue hotdog at Pink’s, back when Dodger fever was going on when they were on their way to losing the World Series.

One of L.A.'s best

Unparalleled seafood and more. Fantastic service as well. Naturally the cost is a bit more than average, but not unreachable--completely worth it.

We had a pleasant dinner at Providence. The menu has great selections of French and sea food. Tasty and fresh. Dressings are addictive. Staff are attentive and helpful. Good customer service.

By far the best seafood restaurant in So Cal! Execution on the most imaginative menu is punctuated by it's consistency. It is a very special experience.

In my profession, they call it the "art of medicine", the "art of healing". Every profession has them, those masters who mix talent with tact, competence with style, empathy with ambition. Even the stiffest, most unyielding fields are never without their stand-outs. . Art had its DaVinci, ballet had its Baryshnikov, and Providence has its Michael Cimarusti.

We (and many others) think this is the best restaurant in Los Angeles. We go there for special occasions and enjoy the remarkably creative cuisine, all the delicious and perfectly cooked fish, the fascinating flavor combinations, the wonderful but low-key service. Every time we go there are some new delicious surprises. For a two-star Michelin restaurant it is still reasonably priced.

We have been to many exquisite and high-end Chef's Table meals in the best restaurants and Inns across this country. While the unique dishes and service at Providence were excellent, we were surprised by the décor which did not match many online interior photos we had seen. The main dining room apparently, and unfortunately, was re-decorated in the recent past and reminded us of a colorful, repetitive Rorschach test--not the setting we were expecting for our meal and wine flights for $800+ for two. It was not until we were leaving the restaurant that we accidentally discovered a much nicer, elegant, and smaller dining area behind the bar area. Make sure you ask for this area when you make your reservation.

Synopsis: Few Agencies ranks Providence #1 in his top 100 restaurants, and I must agree. The food is presented in small courses, beautifully arranged and served with precision timing. It was a special occasion, so we opted for the wine pairings, which were sometimes surprising and definitely enhanced the delicious food.

The service is warm and professional. And the food is exquisite. Primarily seafood, the tasting menus are just terrific. The wine pairings we had with our six-course menu enhanced every single dish. Yes, it is expensive, but if you want to experience a truly world-class restaurant, this is the place.

We celebrated my friend's birthday. We brought two great white wines, Bordeaux and Burgundy.

The service was very professional and rhythmic. They work as a team like a well oiled machine.

They were very accommodating for one of us being a vegetarian and another no shell fish or pork. No attitude, they just wanted to please.

The dishes were amazing in their complexities and each dish had its own entity. The flavors were beautifully balanced. The ingredients were unique and wonderful.

My only slight negative is that for a restaurant of this level the movement by the staff is too hectic.

It is because of the layout of the tables. It is not the great staff's fault.

It felt closer to cafétéria activity. I prefer wonderful elegant food like they served in a more relaxed atmosphere. Don't let that take anything away from the food and service. Both were BRILLIANT.

The best food / experience in Los Angeles. Never disappoints. The quality of the ingredients and the love that goes into the food is amazing. How they do this each and every day is awesome. The wine list is impeccable.

Pricing: $ 250 for Two

Rating 4.5/5

#romikabhat

The food here is so delicious, thoughtful and creative. The service is impeccable. The wine parings are spot on. If you haven't ever done a set menu, you might be a little apprehensive leaving all the choices up to the chef, but they are the professionals and you are in for a treat.

An L.A. Foodie Must Do. And not just for special occasions either. Chef/Owner Michael Cimarusti is doing things over there with Culinary Gastronomy that one can truly appreciate making the modest (for this type of food) price well worth it. This restaurant is predominiantly a seafood restaurant, but don't let that deter you as there are certainly other meats there as well. Plating, presentation, and teqnique are exquisite here making anyone feel like royalty. Leaving the Patina Group and starting his own restaurant was not only a bold move, but obviously a smart one!

I came here one time with my mother. I made reservations over the phone and asked if it were possible to get a tasting menue at lunch time (a rarity for fine dining establishments) to which the concierge said he would gladly check. I ended up getting a yes and the result was captured via photographs. Let me just tell you that neither my mother or I were disappointed at all. We were taken on a culinary journey that told our mouths and brains stories in the form of various flavor, temperatures, and textures! Oh yes we were happy.

Mama's boy? = Perhaps... Foodie? = Yes... On a special occasion = Not really (celebrated a late birthday, but that's not why we came here) Disappointed? = NO!

Walks the Walk. For me, it's rare to walk out of a high-end/fine-dining establishment truly feeling that I got my money's worth. Simply put, Providence delivered in spades.

My meal was fantastic. The clam chowder appetizer was uniquely presented and delicious to a surreal level. My fish entree was likewise amazing--perhaps the best I've ever had. The portions were also ample, an important data point to a strapping lad like me.

Before you dive into these, however, do yourself a favor and order from the cheese tray. Not only is the presentation entertaining and enticing, the artisan cheeses are spectacular.

Finally, the atmosphere is comfortable and elegant, without being pretentious. The service is likewise attentive without being clingy or snooty.

Add this place to your bucket list.

Excellent for Special Occasions. My wife and I went to Providence for our anniversary. We did not intend to try one of their tasting menus, but the amuse bouche they gave us when we sat down immediately convinced us to do the smaller of the three menus. We had also brought a special bottle of wine from home, but we decided to do the wine pairings instead. Those were both absolutely the right decisions.

The presentation of the food is exquisite, with tiny chopped ingredients showing maestro level knife skills. Often it is adorned with tiny edible flowers or gold leaf. The kitchen is very accommodating of special diets; Mrs. Broc does not eat red meat so they replaced the veal with snapper for the final dinner course. The food itself was amazing, and I was blown away by the skill of the wine pairings. The only dish I was not in love with was the kampachi, but the Italian white wine they paired it with so complimented the dish I ended up eating it all.

First and foremost, do not miss the opportunity to try the bacon brioche when the bread guy comes around. Our next dish after the kampachi was a seared sea scallop over what I can only describe as a French curry with cashews. This was hands down my favorite dish with the creamy sweetness of the scallop being well accented by the sauce. The off-dry Riesling that accompanied was well paired to the curry-like tones. Next was a small portion of halibut that was perfectly cooked and served with olives and dried apricots, paired with a well aged chardonnay that almost overwhelmed the dish. I finished dinner with a generous portion of veal that had two tiny dollops of a corn sauce and a chorizo sauce. The veal on its own was wonderfully prepared and tender, and those two tiny portions of sauce were amazing. I could not believe how much sweet corn flavor and spicy and salty chorizo essence were concentrated into those two specs. The chef prepared roasted snapper for Mrs. Broc. Both of us were served a robust pinot which stood up surprisingly well to the veal dish.

The staff is extremely gracious and personable. We felt well attended to without feeling overwhelmed. I had told them this was a special day for us, and they ended our meal with a small lit candle on each of our dessert plates as well as hearty congratulations by the maitre d.

All in all this was a perfect choice for a romantic special occasion. The restaurant is broken down into smaller rooms so that the setting is intimate. The walls are acoustically padded so that traffic from Melrose and conversation from other patrons does not intrude on you special moment.

5-Course Tasting Menu with Wine Pairing, NICE!!. Dinner starts with Amuse-Bouche, very refreshing. 5-Course Tasting Menu included, Kanpachi, Scallop, Halibut, Veal and Dessert. Every dish was well-prepared with high quality of food, and nice presentation. Wine pairing was a good match.
Servers were professional and attentive. Our waiter and waitress explained to us on each dish and wine. It's a very pleasant dining experience. It's worth the price!!

Nice. Had the 5 course tasting menu. It was excellent, BUT it didn't blow my mind. The black bass was a bit too salty, everything was delicious, high quality, well prepared etc. but I was expecting to be pleasantly surprised. The decor is a bit dated, and cheesy. The barnacles crawling on the wall, and the beaded candle holders were cheap looking to me.

Overall...pretty impressive.. A good friend of mine took me here for my birthday. i've always heard great things and figured it was time to see for myself. i was very pleased for the most part, but i feel the place did have some minor drawbacks.

the good things: firstly, from start to finish, the food was excellent. the main lobster risotto, the bacon clam chowder, the trio of bite size samples...all great. each and every dish was clearly well thought about and beautifully presented.

the downsides: admittedly, my complaint is really not food related at all. but for having as many servers as they do, the service was really not that great. through the entire dinner, the staff seemed like they were endlessly scurrying around. i'm pretty sure we had 4 different servers visit our table and take our orders. a bit overwhelming and ultimately, too much going on. and way off topic, the sommelier looked like someone that would be found on meganslaw.com. just sayin.

A Cornucopia of Flavor Artistry. I took my boyfriend here last night for his birthday after a friend recommended it. We had the 9 course tasting menu. Yum. The textures and different flavor combinations were amazing - every dish was artfully presented and explained by the classy staff. All the dishes were delightful, but my favorite was probably the Atlantic Char. The atmosphere was romantic and charming, although it felt a little stuffy, but that's what you expect from a place where you will easily drop $300+ for two people.

An elegant dining experience. I went to Providence for dinner last night with two friends. This was a totally unplanned visit. My friends and I were in jeans, had no reservations and on the spur of the moment decided we wanted to try the restaurant that has been in the old Patina space on Melrose for some time.

First, the maitre d couldn't have been more gracious. Second, we were definitely underdressed but were made to feel welcome and comfortable. After 5 minutes the maitre d found a nice table for us (while it was a bit off the main dining room, we were not in Siberia).

The wines, appetizers and food were excellent - and wine recommendations made by the sommelier were right on.

Yes the food was expensive - and you should be in the mood for fish when you go to Providence. But the experience is well worth it.

Definitely a most peaceful and rewarding dining experience!

We ordered off one of the four tasting menus that they offer. We had the Market Tasting Menu. I should have taken a picture of the menu, but I was a bit worried that I would bother the other diners. Maybe I can have better descriptions for you at a later date, but until then I'll do my best to recreate the menu descriptions AND of course there are the pictures!

The menu has a few options: you may choose to enjoy a three-course meal and choose your items from one side of the menu, or you may have the five- or nine-course Providence market menu, pre-selected and presented on the other side of the menu. Also available is the daunting 14-course chef’s tasting menu, an extensive meal where the chef makes whatever he pleases. Menus must be chosen and consistent throughout your table so it was hard for us to decide. The 14-course menu would take over 3 hours to complete and we were exhausted from our flight and a half-day’s worth of shopping! We (or more like, I) decided to go for the nine-course menu. I wanted the full experience if this was to be my first Michelin star experience!

Asking around among friends and contacts about fine dining options in Los Angeles unanimously led me to Providence. Described to me by some as the “Le Bernardin of the west coast”, I was assured by all that within Providence I would find a tantalizing journey of seafood from the skillful palate of Chef Michael Cimarusti. Although Providence would be the last fine dining stop in my recent trip out west, it was undoubtedly the meal I was looking forward to most. Sitting down at our table I prepared myself for what would be the second seafood-focused tasting menu I’ve experienced so far this year. Having dined at Le Bernardin just three weeks prior, I had come into Providence in hopes of seeing an entirely different perspective of the sea than I had enjoyed from Chef Eric Ripert. Much like Le Bernardin, Providence’s menu is formatted along the prix fixe and tasting menu lines. Patrons such as myself who have an intere

One of the tastiest, exciting and elegant meals I've had - probably 'ever' - goes back two years ago. The Chef's Table at the two-Michelin star rated, James Beard Award winning Providence in Hollywood takes the prize with flawless food and service. I took over 100 photos of that meal, which lasted over 6 hours (till past 2:00 a.m. on a Monday night!). After returning to the restaurant earlier this year, the sommelier still recognized and remembered me! I don't know if that's a good or bad thing. Let me share some of the highlight

With refined eats like these, it’s not surprising that the crowd is of the serious wine-and-dine variety: exec types, ultra foodies, romantic couples (snag the white booth for the most intimate seating), and a smattering of celebs. But it’s definitely not snooty or impersonal here. When we dined at lunch, the restaurant appeared to have a large number of regulars that knew each other yet were welcoming to newcomers like us. The food is exceptional and exciting. Each dish is a work of art. Simply put: this is a place where magic happens. ...Providence is my favorite restaurant in Los Angeles. The word "outstanding" doesn't do this restaurant justice. In my opinon, Providence is the finest dining experience in all of Los Angeles - and a close contender with Fleur de Lys in San Francisco. Their 2 Michelin Stars were very well deserved. Read this blog from my earlier days and you would know that my first Michelin star experience was at Nobu (the London outlet, not the Melbourne one). Looking back, it was pretentious, the food was average and service was rather snobbish. Not to mention I had a ridiculous 10 dollar foie gras gyoza in one bite (without knowing). Fast forward years, I guess it was time for another Michelin star experience. Now, technically speaking, the Michelin Guide has stopped reviewing Los Angeles since 2009. However back in 2009, Providence was one of the only four restaurants that held two Michelin stars, bearing in mind that no restaurants in LA had three stars as at 2009. So yes it's been 3 years but surely, this still counts as a Michelin star experience? This came recommended by the Wife's cousin and upon checking out their website, it looks like their executive chef, Michael Cimarusti was once upon a time on Top Chef Masters (the proper cooking show with world renowned chefs, not amateurs). Providence is one of my favorite restaurants in L.A. - even though I'd only been there once before. You know how sometimes people say you meet the person you're meant to be with, and "you just know"? And then you think that's really annoying to hear, until you really experience it yourself? Well I'd experienced that with Providence - I loved everything about it immediately: the sophisticated yet soothing style, the lack of 'scene', utter focus on exquisite cuisine, plates the look of which set my heart racing - and took my breath away on contact - all came together perfectly for me. Though I've only ever been able to afford the 2-Michelin Starred restaurant once, I knew that it had taken hold of a part of me that can never been released to anyone else ever again. So, I was beyond excited when I learned of Providence's 5-course tasting menu, in celebration of its sixth anniversary - which was 'only' going to be $70 per person. I had gotten a chance to try Chef Cimarusti's various ingeni

For those of you who follow me on Twitter, I had a bit of a meltdown before I left for the US. Them and their tricksy immigration rules, combined with nondescript instructions on how long you should have left on your passport. You get the idea. Even with all the research I had done, I was sweating as I checked in, sweating on the plane, and when the immigration dude had to "go check with his colleague about something", I nearly had a meltdown. Thankfully, they stamped my passport and I was through. LA is a weird place. I was warned about how spread out it all was, and you can easily travel for streets and not see a soul (apart from the numerous homeless who wander the streets). Very few things are located near each other, and often things which look close together on a map, will turn into a $12 cab ride. Providence is one of these places. A 2 Michelin starred restaurant, it was to be my first eating destination on my trip and arriving early, I thought I would check out the surrounding

Providence is one of those epic meals that you will never forget, a perfect birthday meal. Everything about this place is pure dining ecstasy. Subtle, decorative hints of the ocean put you in the mood for the menu which is primarily of the sea. From taste
