Review Bangkok House - Lexington

David Kravetz
It has been a number of years since we visited. Sadly, seems like they aren’t as good or as friendly as we remembered. Serving sizes were rather small on the Pad Thai ( I ordered tofu vegetable) and the curry dishes. Yet prices were similar to the other Thai places in town. The atmosphere is nice, but it seems that they were too busy to really appreciate the customers.

I’ve eaten a lot of Thai food in my life and the food here wasn’t terrible, but the service was indifferent and unwelcoming (the worst part), the environment was pretty nasty, and the portions were small and way overpriced. The fact that this place is currently rated 4.1 stars is baffling. I’ll never be back.

Was super disappointed when we ordered from Bangkok House. Got Panang Curry and not only was it not in a larger container like normal, but smaller container wasn't really close to full. The curry itself was also thinner then I've ever had, almost water in consistency. Wouldn't have been as underwhelmed if it were $9-10 like normal, but cost $15 witj only protein that wasn't an additional charge. Egg rolls were unfortunately the best item by far. Try to be understanding given current state of service industry, but likely will be first and last experience with Bangkok House as there just wasn't much good to say about it and there are several other incredible Chinese/asian restaurants in Lexington. Hopefully this was one off experience and other people have had better luck.

I had the eggplant veggie sauté with a delicate brown sauce, half spice intensity with tofu. Fabulous! Nice cold Guinness…great meal before the philharmonic. Great chef and just one server for entire restaurant…attitude is perfunctory, not indifferent as I read in a previous review. So incredibly reasonable.

We are in town for a convention, and wanted to eat some Thai food. We went here, and just wanted to recommend that you don’t eat here. There is a odd smell in the restaurant, there is one guy who takes care of everything up front, so service is slow (which is okay), but he charged us 15% gratuity when there were only 3 adults and our five little kids (ages 6, 4, 2, 2, 1). We paid almost $50 for three vegetarian dishes that had small portions, and the food was not worth the money.

The food from this restaurant is barely eatable. Over salted and tasteless with small portions. They truly need to hire a new cook. I spent $70 with a delivery and threw out majority of it. The only good thing about this place was fast door dash delivery.

Used to go here all the time when I went to UK. Met up with my brother not too long ago and parked at Bangkok House right before they opened. Ran across the street to use the restroom, came right back to find that Bangkok House had our cars towed. Said something to the owner, and he was extremely unprofessional. Will definitely NEVER be patronizing Bangkok House ever again!

The food is consistently delicious. They have food for spicy lovers and those who prefer a mild dish. We have been eating here for years.

Best Thai I've had since being here. The Thai tea is my favorite! Service was decent. Ordered the hottest since my experience prior the hot wasn't actually hot at all and the hottest was definitely HOT. Very good but very spicy.

Love this place. Staff/owners are so friendly and the food is so good. Some different apps you don't see on a lot of menus across town. Friendly prices as well.
Kevin Mann
Simple and efficient. Great flavor. Reasonably priced. Worth a try.

Very bad food. Horrible decor. The food there is not worth mentioning. The decor is. It seems like there is a thin layer of grease on everything in there. And it's over priced. Eat there at you own peril.

Worst Thai in town!. Horrible food! Typical Thai in Lexington where they douse all menu items with buckets of sugar. Pad Thai and other menu items are not edible unless you like your Thai food to taste like cotton candy. Complete waste of money.

Um, ok. Am surprised by the other reviews, although I have colleagues who also like it. The food is bland and generic, reminding me of a boring chinese restaurant more than thai. I don't usually care about 'ambiance' but it is a bit dark down below. Then again, I have not found a good thai restaurant in Lexington. Taste of Thai is ok (if a bit expensive) as is Planet Thai.

Favorite. I eat here usually once a week. Ok, it's not big, it's not finely decorated, nothing like that. The service is not full of smiles and bells and whistles, but it is fast. There aren 't many other places where you get served at table and you are sure to be in and out in 30 minutes or less. The food is pretty good, and, what is precious to me, they ask how hot you want your food and actually deliver it! Living in a country where pepper is considered a synonym to flavor, I am very pleased when I can say mild and actually get something flavorful but that won't leave me incapable of tasting anything else for the next 24 hours. However, when with friends who like spicy stuff, they did get what they ordered as well. I love the Pad Wun Sen and the Assorted Vegetables. Also, the portions are precise - I eat well, don't get hungry for the rest of the afternoon, but there is no waste. I feel many people need to have left-overs to feel they paid a just price. I like to be able to pay for what I need, no more, no less. It is my to-go place when I am in a hurry but want some real decent food for lunch.

Chicken satay w/ peanut sauce = liquid gold. I frequented Bangkok probably a hundred times. The owners are so very friendly and always accommodating. I am a creature of habit and always get the yellow curry w/chicken. Very Good!

If you want an app. get the chicken satay. The peanut sauce that accompanies it is the BOMB! If I were told that that is the only thing I can eat from now until I die - I would jump for joy!

I love their egg rolls and Thai tea!!! Everything I've ever had here is very tasty! It should be noted that it IS expensive for the amount of food received. However, the favors make up for it!

Horrible place! I got calamary for an appetizer that was basically onions coated with thin fried skin of calamari. I tried duck entree and chicken curry. Portions were small, and taste average. Service was curt. That's a no... no place.

Curries are very good. Servings are small, considering the price. Great place to grab a bite to eat when on campus.

Favorite quick place to eat. I moved here 3 months ago and I must say this is my favorite place to eat when I'm in a hurry and want a good meal. I usually get the tofu or chicken pad thai and it's delicious. Every time I go there, I am immediately greeted. When I am placing a to go order, it has never taken more than 15 minutes for them to take my order and have my food ready. Would highly recommend this place to anyone in town!

Ok food. Not the best thai I've had, but not the worst either. The vegetables were cooked well, but the sauce was bland and tasted slightly like dirty water. Others in our group tried various curry dishes and only had good things to say.

Gotta love it. I like Thai food, and Bangkok House always hits the spot. The green curry and pad Thai are always fantastic and never disappoints. Great environment, incredibly nice staff, ask about the paintings by elephants, great story. Probably the best pad Thai I have ever had. They also have duck on the menu for a very affordable price. Whenever I don't know what to eat, Bangkok House will hit the spot.

Smaller Portions. Had the pad thai for lunch today, it was excellent as usual. I was surprised at the rather small portion for lunch and still an $8 price.

Love it. I love love love Bangkok house! You HAVE to get an egg roll because they are so good with the duck sauce! The pad thai is really good as well as the curry. I love eating here! I do think that the portions are a little small for the price, but still very tasty!!!

Did I order off the kids menu accidentally? Where is the rest of my meal?

Loved it for years. I have gone to Bangkok House probably 100 times over the years. It is always delicious and fast. One of my favorite restaurants in town. Red curry with extra veggies is great!

Less food for the price, EXPENSIVE! If you are a 145 lbs guy, you have to order 2 pad thais to leave the restaurant NOT HUNGRY. BEST pad Thai ever.

Stupid me! I should have tried it earlier!. I have been by this place hundreds of times over the last 15 years. I used to even live down the street. I finally made it there lastnight and was not disappointed.

It was snowy out and the roads were bad, but I am so glad I went. This place has the absoute neatest chopsticks I've ever seen. There are even notes at every table asking the patrons not to take them home. =)

I had the panang curry, a dish I love and try at most Thai restaurants. I ordered it hot, and let me tell you, it took me 4 glasses of water to finish it . Kudos. I asked for it. Next time, I will ask for 'American hot'. The portions are a little bit smaller than other places, but the quality was great. I'd rather have quality food over quantity any day. If not, I"d go to one of the many buffets in Lex.

My girlfriend had the musaman curry (with no onions), and asked for 'American hot'. The taste was fabulous. This was my first time ever trying this type of curry and it had hints of pumpkin taste. This curry also had carrots, chicken, and potatos in it. Again, excellent dish!

I cannot remember the appetizer we had, but it looked like crab rangoon but had chicken, potatos and yellow curry in deep friend pockets. She like it better than I did, but it was good. I'll try the satay chicken next time.

The staff was ultra friendly, my glass never went below 1/4, which was good as I needed tons of water. Also, our dirty dishes were taken away very quickly.

One of the highlights was the interaction with the owner, Boon. He was very friendly and offered wonderful conversation. We discussed the history of the restaurant and he showed us some articles and the many awards they have received over the years.

The menu was very extensive and our food was cooked to order.

Overall, wonderful experience. It is obvious to me why this place has been there for 17 years. Restaurants like this, and meeting people like Boon, make it fun to try something new. I will definitely be back but cannot wait to try it in the summer so I can try the underground patio experience!!

My favorite Pad Thai. I love the Pad Thai and the Super Noodles here. We always eat at Bangkok House before the Lexington Philharmonic concerts.
Cmaynard
Syrupy sweet and mild. Those are the two words I've used most when describing any dish here. There Pad Pre Wan tastes like it was doused in syrup, to the point it made my soda taste bitter by comparison. If you like heavily Americanized Thai then I guess this place is for you.

My First and Favorite Thai Experience. Bangkok House was my first taste of Thai food. It's on UK's campus, so student frequent it quite a bit. My friends raved about it, so I tried it with them the next time they went. Pad Thai seemed to be the obvious favorite... and it was awesome. I have yet to find another plate of Pad Thai that good... and I'm still trying!

Keep Looking. Truly medicore Thai food. Enough said.

Blech. Last time we ate here the meat in our curry had gone bad.
Portion sizes are smaller than other thai restaurants for the same price!

Not my favorite Thai in Lexington. But it is still quite good. I like that they offer duck as a protein choice for most dishes on the menu. Duck is surprisingly rare on Lexington restaurant menus.

Prices are quite affordable, too.
Taylor
Best Thai in town. Can't go wrong with the pad thai!
Hellmania
Mediocre, except for the Pad thai. After eating here on and off for 12 years I can say this place is consistently mediocre. Although Lexington has no great Thai places there are better options than this.

The one exception is their Pad Thai. They make a Pad Thai any west coast Thai restaurant would be proud of.

Just okay. I had the red curry it was okay, but was kind of watery. I've had much better, Taste of Thai is thicker and all aorund better.
Lexington In The Circle
Such a disappointment. If only there were other restaurants closer to walk to from UK, I would never eat at Bangkok house. For a little variety, I eat there maybe once every couple of months but the food is typically not good. Granted (and a giant disclaimer) I have only eaten there for lunch. They are very busy and must focus on a quick turnover to make up for a slower evening. But that means that the food is already put together in the kitchen which can lead to rubbery noodles. The yellow curry with pineapple is tasty, served in a bowl with a delicious broth that you can soak up with the rice. I like my foods spicy but Bangkok House seems to only have mild or way too spicy to eat. I made that mistake once and will not make it again. I will eat there again if my lunch partners want to go but I will not make an effort or recommend it.

Good pad thai!

Great eggrolls and pad Thai

Not good enough to justify the $$. The food is decent. Cost is way too much though. Also, the whole restraunt smelled like bleach the last time I was there.
Shel.
We eat at Bangkok several times a month and the quality of the food is consistent and the owners are always wonderful. It's by far the best Thai place in town!

Great Food!. Don't let the location and fact that you walk down into what seems to be a basement scare you away from this place. They have EXCELLENT food and it is kinda cool inside. Extremely clean which is important to me! The staff was very professional and friendly.
