While looking for a late night meal on a weeknight, your choices are usually limited to diners and bars. Diners around this area aren’t open 24 hours so we settled on Pappy’s Schoolhouse. It’s a small local bar. Bar foo can usually go one of two ways… frozen food that you could have picked up at the supermarket yourself or delicious homemade food. This place falls squarely into the homemade category. All of the food was scratch made. They even smoke their own meat! As soon as I heard this, I had to order a brisket sandwich. I was glad I did! Served on a delicious roll with a side of house made barbeque sauce, I was tempted to another one to go!
It’s clearly a local place where everyone knows everyone else, but they made us out-of-towner’s feel welcome too. The waitress actually stopped by our table a few times just to chat. Our dinner took a little longer than expected due to a minor mix up by a new staff member in the kitchen. We didn’t complain since we were in no hurry, but they voluntarily gave us each free dessert to make up for the delay. When do you ever see that type of great customer service anymore?

Excellent food. Brisket chili snd scallops wrapped in bacon were on the menu. My husband gets the AYCE fried fish. This is one of our favorite spots.
This is a cool little place out in the sticks. They had great live music (country) and a good crowd of regulars. 8 or so beers on tap and maybe 30 overall in cans and bottles -- all really cheap, too. Really fun crowd after a concert at nearby penn's peak.
update: their saturday night karaoke is really fun
It was a busy night due to a show just a few miles down the road at Penns peak. The staff was friendly but they could have had more wait staff. Despite that the food was good and the waitress did a marvelous job trying to wait on everyone in a timely manner. I would definitely go back again.
Very nice place very close to turnpike and Penns Peak. Food very good and not expensive!
Service was much better than a year ago when we were there. I had the hot turkey platter with homemade mashed potatoes and homemade pickled beets. It was delicious!!!!

Stumbled across this little hole in the wall bar while taking alittle overnight vacation. It was late by the time we walked in the door. Still a handful of customers lingering. They had karaoke going..... Smack dab right in front of the main door coming in! Lol...cozy little local spot. Books and pictures lined the walls. Old time decor. We each had a couple cold beers and called it a night. Walked out and you could hear the river runnin. I bet day time it was as beautiful as it was around our hotel, Country Place Inn and Suites.
Very nice beer menu for such a small venu. Good selection of mixed drinks as well. Weekly specials and a high quality food menu. First and foremost it's a very nice bar and the food is mostly bar food with some exceptions such as weekly specials. That being said the food was great and the atmosphere is inviting. Stop by for a drink and quick bite.
Bartender was energetic and friendly. They had karaoke and everyone was dancing and singing along even if it was in there seats. Positive good vibe atmosphere
