I love La Tropicana - good food, good Rita’s, cold beer, friendly service - you can’t go wrong. Secluded patio for outside dining. Just across the river from downtown Mass St - 60sec down the street from Johnny’s.

We were attracted by the fun and vibrant restaurant which is why I’m so disappointed that the experience didn’t add up. We spent $55 for two meals, chips and salsa (you pay for the appetizer) and two drinks. The menu barely lists the prices of things and the waitress rings your card up without telling you the amount (i take fault for not asking before running it). $55 on Mexican food. I was expecting the quality of the food to be pretty good considering we paid so much. Our food was served on paper plates and we received our silverware in a plastic bag. The chips are so hard that I wouldn’t doubt if they were left out. I’m unsure what the experience normally is but we were super disappointed. We won’t be going back or recommending.

30 dollars for 2 paper plates, and plastic to eat off of. There must be a tomato 🍅shortage as you can see in the photos only one small piece for the tacos, and I small piece for the burritos.
Sorry, not sorry, we won't be back.

Very friendly and considerate staff. Family style resturant. Quaint decor. Food was very good. Prices are very reasonable. Portion size matched the pricing. House salsa was ok. Wheelchair access is good. Handicap parking available.

This was the worst Mexican food that we've ever had. It's stupid expensive, the cheese dip is clearly from a package, the rice and beans are flavorless, and I'm paying $50 for two people to eat off paper plates and with plastic silverware. The best thing about this place was the mango margarita.

Giving it a 2 b/c its cute atmosphere food mediocre.
They charge for tap water $1.00 but dont tell you btw. That's ridiculous! We purchased beers and frozen pine colada and 4 dinner specials and they charged us for tap water? Left a real bad taste in all of our mouths.

I’ve been remiss not to offer a review of La Trop, as we’ve been eating here for close to 30 years. Wow. That makes me feel old. Anyway - it’s the best Mexican food in town, easily. Fresh enchiladas not overly sauced or cheesed. Pan fried tacos are great. Best guacamole in town, probably in the state. Great refried beans. Family owned, very nice people. Very consistent. It’s a true comfort food for me now after all these years. Eating here is like a warm hug, but not in a creepy way. Can’t wait to enjoy the patio this spring post covid vax!
