Port Fonda

Best thing about port fonda is the Chicharones. The rest of the food is always just OK. Everything seems extra salty. On one visit I couldn't even eat the soup I ordered because it was so salty. The pork tacos are good. I had a steak fajita special recently and it was good but the steak portion was very small and most of the skillet was filled with potatoes. Staff is always friendly and helpful. Biggest gripe here is the price. $8 for about a half avocado worth of guacamole? Everything is honestly a bit over priced for the size and quality. I frequently stay at the town place suites in the same building and regularly eat in the restaurant so something keeps me coming back. Not the best Mexican but a decent spot with nice atmosphere.

Port Fonda is a high end (for Lawrence) Latin American/Mexican restaurant. I have been here mainly for their taco special on Tuesdays. The taco changes every week and I have to say the flavors have all been very good and creative. Thus far the shrimp taco has been my favorite. The regular menu is nice, the entrees have a nice flavor palette with no single overwhelming flavor characteristics being carried over from one dish to another. The only real drawback is cost, chips and salsa, while good are extras, and beer and drinks are pretty ridiculously priced for Lawrence.

You have to pay for the chips and salsa but its worth it, and the food in general is to die for. The most impressive part of the experience was the wait...there was none! Our food was out in less than 5 minutes after we ordered, it was awesome. We hadn't even finished the chips and salsa before the main course arrived.

Food was sub par for the cost. Atmosphere is well appointed, and looks nice, but lacks acoustic treatment in a large space and was quite loud. Had to send back a mixed drink to the bar because of multiple fruit flies in the drink; although drink was comped and second drink arrived, it was a completely different drink than originally ordered. In discussion with server regarding drink, mentioned at our table that they've had problems keeping people. Bathroom was difficult to find, surprisingly unclean, and the faucet handle was broken.

Terrible.. We were seated, then they poured our glasses somewhat halfway with water. All the PHOTOs on here are FALSE advertisements!! I asked about almost all of the photos and they kept saying "those were specials". No wonder they are going out of business. What we did eventually order was all overcooked and rubbery/or mushy. I asked for hot sauce and they said that it was a few extra dollars. ..Really? Not to mention the drinks were horrible too. They said they have a full bar then when we ordered they had like 2 different brands of 3 kinds of liquor. It's either tequila or beefeater. So we had plenty of room for dessert and ordered that. Which half was missing! Then the waitress said "since we ran out of the main part of ur dessert we will only charge u half"... Are u serious!? How about letting us know? ..we would have never even ordered it! It looks like an upscale mexican restaurant but don't b deceived. It's just a bunch of slop on a plate with terrible customer service. I'd rather eat at taco bell!
