The Donut Palace

Best donuts in the world! They melt in your mouth! The pigs are great as well. Very fairly priced and both the owner and staff are always incredibly sweet and happy to serve. The only thing I don’t like is every time I happen to crave donuts it’s Monday which is when they are closed, but it’s normal for a small business to have 1 day a week off of course. I would be truly heartbroken if Lampasas ever lost this place

The day we visited, the place was being run by foreigners who obviously had no real concept of what donuts mean to Americans early in the Morning. Donuts had odd taste - as if cooked in oil that had previously been used for some other food not conducive to the flavor of donuts. Taste was sufficiently bad enough that we couldn't finish them out of disgust. We will never return.

A few days after Christmas, I was driving back to Austin and really needed a cup of coffee to get me through the last leg of the drive. I pulled into the parking lot of Donut Palace and saw that they had been closed for 30 mins. I drove around the drive-thru to get back on the main road when a man throwing out the trash stopped me. He asked me what I needed. I told him I wanted a cup of coffee but I would find another place since they were already closed. He said, “no no, pull around the front and I’ll bring you a cup.” I parked in front and he came back out with a cup of coffee and a bag of donuts. I tried to give him a tip and he refused it. He told me that he hoped I had a great holiday and a happy New Year. Such a sweet man! Proof that good kind people are still out there. If you are passing through Lampasas, be sure to stop at Donut Palace. 💜

Great little donut shop. My favorite item is the chocolate cake donut with chocolate frosting which is impossible to find where I’m from in Mississippi. I don’t know why, but it’s just impossible. So when I visit Lampasas I am sure to stop by the Donut Palace and grab a few. They’re delicious. They have many many flavors of cake donuts as well as regular donuts. The only thing I wouldn’t recommend is the breakfast tacos/burritos. I don’t know what it is, they’re just not my cup of tea. Just get the cake donuts and you’ll leave happy I promise you!
