Overall the food was Okay. Shrimp and grits were not bad. They only put three shrimp in my grits. Mac and cheese was dry and bland. The candie yams were the best part in my opinion. Based off my experience I think this place is just okay. Not bad if you want something fast and different.

The food was delicious. The catfish was seasoned well, not greasy. The sweet potatoes, scallop potatoes, red beans and rice and french fries were fabulous! The cobbler was full of fruit and had a delightful crust that was perfect ending to a great meal. Lisa was terrific. This Chicagoan will be back.

I can’t believe this was right in my backyard and I didn’t know about it. The food was exactly what we were expecting delish and so was the service, happy and delightful. I enjoyed a massive bowl of their Shrimp & Grits appetizer and some catfish fingers but I have to admit the grape Kool-Aid with lemonade sent me back to my childhood. There is dine-in seating and my only suggestion here would be to make more welcoming by organizing the room. Regardless I’ll be back for some blackened catfish and collard greens!

This cozy little place has got the best soul food anywhere in Lakewood or the West End of Cleveland as far as I'm concerned. I got the Perch dinner with Collard greens and Mac & Cheese. Prices are very affordable, portions are healthy and the service is spot on!!

Ordered the chicken dinner on Uber Eats $12+$1 white meat Upgrade. Received (3) whole wings. I expected a breast and two wings.
Ordered shrimp and grits $11. Received (3) shrimp, and lukewarm grits in a delicious sauce.
The Mac and cheese was good. The house potatoes were creamy and delicious; think homemade augratin potatoes.
The corn muffin has small jalapeños inside, which I didn't mind.

Large pieces of fish which did not taste like catfish. Grits were ok, but cold. Greens were salty. Maybe if you order your food earlier in the day, the food would be better.

I for one never have any complaints about this restaurant, today I order for pickup food was ready at the time it was supposed to be but, chicken was feathery, soul rolls were soggy limp and greasy n the grits were missing an ingredient, idk maybe there was a new cook but ugh it will be a while before I go back prayerfully the will see this review and send my $54.00 back

After telling my significant other about The Southern Cafe for years, we finally made it (not from greater CLE area). I'm happy to say that it exceeded expectations. Staff was awesome, food was exceptional. They have a clean restaurant (and bathroom). 10/10 would highly recommend.
