Review Deagan's Kitchen & Bar - Lakewood

Great ambiance. Lots of space. Great menu of various different dishes. Super clean. The waitress was super nice and very helpful. We definitely enjoyed ourselves and plan to come back again soon.

Enjoyed a sprightly and mouthwatering lunch at 𝐃𝐞𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐧’𝐬 today! I ordered the deviled eggs 🥚for a starter, and I can admit that goat cheese is actually tasty. I also ordered the hot chicken & waffle 🐔 🧇. The chicken was amazingly good with its cayenne glaze 🤤. The bartender and hosts were welcoming and overall I had a great dining experience 👏🏾

Overall, best restaurant in Lakewood. The food is ALWAYS excellent and perfectly cooked, the plates are generous and presented with elegant simplicity and lack of pretension, and the staff will make you feel like family. This is the absolute perfect restaurant to take a first date, or visiting family from out of town. I love this restaurant and could not recommend it more highly. The best representation of Lakewood.

An absolutely wonderful date night experience. Our first time here and from the moment we walked in we were impressed. The rustic walls and hard floors and eclectic mix and match of chairs is inviting and mesmerizing. The ceiling has a gorgeous bronze metal look it and just seems to screen glamour and glitz . It all ties together beautifully for a warm, inviting, masterpiece. The hostess greeted us, politely and with a smile promptly showed us to our table. The waitress was polite, nice, knowledgeable and attentive. She patiently answered out questions and offered suggestions. We ordered the confeti drumsticks with truffle hot sauce. Delicious mix of flavor and heat. He ordered the DKB burger. Perfectly done. Perfectly seasoned. Served with fries which were quite tasty. I had the duck breast. It was fabulous. The duck breast is served with parsnip puree, braised red cabbage and cranberry ... Phenomenal! There were four choices for dessert and we chose creme brulee. Again , every bite so satisfying and delicious. (Note: we did order it without the berries due to allergies). The service was phenomenal and the meal the best of the best we have had Anywhere to date.

We are still making our Lakewood rounds and this place did not disappoint. We had the spicy shrimp tacos, poutine, and pulled pork Mac and cheese. Very impressed with the decor as well.

Great food, excellent customer service, real chill vibe, & great food. My friend loved her Vegan Sausage & I enjoyed my DKB Meal. This was a nice brunch!

We stopped in at 3:30 and the place was pretty full, good sign. They weren’t serving dinner yet, but had a pretty good selection of bar food and an amazing selection of craft beers. The loaded fries were delicious, sort of like crack cocaine, you just can’t stop! The meatball was more of a small meatloaf and was also delicious! We will be back for dinner!
Cori
Went during lunch and was unimpressed. The fries were very garlicky and the shrimp tacos were mushy. However, the calamari was so delicious that I forgot to take a picture of it. The service was fast and the waitress was lovely.

They have a great brunch. Dinner is not always the best, food isn’t always very flavorful. Tends to try very hard a fusing various cuisines without getting the right spices and aromas for individual pieces. Price is a little high for what it is. Service is always good.

Walked in on a Friday night at 10:06pm to get a drink before heading over to 16-Bit and was informed that the kitchen was already closed and they had already done last call. On a Friday night. At 10:06pm. Their hours clearly state they’re open until 11pm. Either change the hours or stay open until the advertised time of close.

Worst food & service I have ever seen in cleveland. So many great food experiences out there. Just save you money & take a chance elsewhere. You will thank me

Great atmosphere and food. I'd highly suggest Burger Thursday! The lamb burger on a brioche bun is amazing. Stay away from their coconut shrimp, though.

Delicious! Called in and they helped us out on a weekend night with big party. Food was good, fish was great, coleslaw was not that great, but fries were perfect. I over heard the Mac n cheese was also delicious. The service was very good and the atmosphere was cozy. Drinks are strong like they should be! Will definitely e coming back!
Came for brunch which I love. Took 35 minutes for my food to come out. Which, whatever, it's usually really good. I got chicken and waffles and the chicken and Brussels sprouts were burnt. Inedible. I was offered a replacement but why wait another 35 minutes. They need to correct the cook issue.

The service was amazing and the location is great convenient parking lot in the back . I ordered a cheese plate not bad and also ordered the filo salmon I didn't care for it but my cuz liked it it was very middle eastern taste and I returned it and got the flat iron steak which was delicious with Apple pumpkin and carrots very good and such a fall dinner . It's a lil pricy I just got those two this and my check came out to 50$ .

The Good Old Days. Deagans has always been our favorite go-to spot for brunches and an occasional dinner. The food used to be amazing. The Sunday bartender, Mandy, was great. She was engaging and really knowledgeable about beer selections. We looked forward to brunches and for a while we were regulars.
I miss those days because the bartenders now are not engaging in the slightest and unfortunately, like so many other reviews, I have to agree. The food is nowhere near what it used to be. I would think cooking something as basic as an egg would be a requirement. Both of our dishes were overcooked the first time and one under done the second. The potatoes were cold and underseasoned.
I write this review because Deagans, you were our favorite restaurant. What happened? !?! We loved you. Please, please go back to the quality you were once known for!
Theresa Vitale
Dinner menu and food not up to par as it once was. Way over priced now and mediocre food. Wouldn't go there again for dinner. Brunch on Sunday's is a safe bet.

Great happy hour. I love to go here on Tuesdays for happy hour deals and good tacos! The beer deals are great during happy hour.. Honestly, though, this place is too expensive regularly. I've had dinner and brunch, both are very good but just overpriced. The tacos are very reasonable though! I've also had issues with the bartenders messing up my food but some of them are great.

What happened?. We used to frequent Deagan's often. We went back after a 6 month hiatus and found the prices higher and the food not as good. For the portion sizes offered - they are charging way too much. Could be worth it if the food returned to its previous quality - but we're not sure we will return anytime soon. Rather go to Barrios and have our fill of great tacos for a lot less.

Do not waste your time. Service is slow. Food is unimpressive. A Vegan restaurant posing as a Gastropub!

Never ate here, never will.. I just wanted to update the reviews by saying that even though I've never been here it sounds like there has been a lot of mistakes made. I planned on trying it before I read the horrible reviews. You just lost a prospective customers Deagans, maybe time to get back on track before you go out of business.

Had a great family dinner here for the first time last night. The vegan paprikash was a big hit at the table. Side items like squash and salads were great. I cannot recommend the tomato basil soup enough. Even the deserts didn't disappoint. The service was very accommodating ...only negative thing I would say was that it was a bit loud and hard to hear conversations at the other side of the table. One of the best dinners I've had in a while.

Wow! How the mighty have fallen.. Deagan's used to be an absolute FAVORITE of me and my husband. We used to go about once every week or 10 days but no more. I'm not sure if it's a new chef or Deagan got stretched too thin when he opened Humble (the wine bar down the street) but the quality went down the toilet. We used to LOVE taco Tuesday. The tacos were filling and absolutely delicious. The last time we went, they were so gross, I didn't even finish them. It seriously tastes like there is mayo on the tacos. GROSS!!! We noticed that the food was nowhere near as good as it used to be the couple of times we went before the last taco experience but it was really apparent after this last visit. This used to be a restaurant that was in our regular rotation but now I won't even set foot in there. The food is nasty and it is overpriced anyway. Also, as a side note, the service the last few times was HORRIBLE. It seems to me that their standards dropped tremendously in every area. Save your money! Don't go to Deagan's or else you will be disappointed.

Fun and Relaxed Meal. Great food and a very fun atmosphere. My wife and I like to go on random week nights when we don't want to cook dinner. They have awesome taco Tuesday and Vegan Wednesday meals (coming from someone who is definitely not a Vegan or Vegetarian). I would definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoy unique food and craft beer.

My wife and I went out for a late lunch at Deagan's. Service excellent, food excellent!!! I am not a big seafood eater, but wanted to try something different. The salmon was so good!!! Highly recommended!!!

The food was average. it was loud. and dinners were cold

We went yestarday for happy hour. The beer was good and the service very friendly. we sat at the bar and we ordered truffle fries and calamari. the fries were mushy and cut in small pieces. the calamari pretty chewy and the aioli very salty. honestly i was expecting something better from a five star review place
Sparklyspeckle
Ick. This used to be one of my favorites. $9 for a quarter wedge of iceberg lettuce with runny dressing? $14 for blah Mac and cheese? Had no flavor whatsoever. Come on. All the faves are gone from the menu. Very disappointing. That's all I can say.
Ryan A. Inman
Terrible service.... My brother and I stopped in here one late afternoon and sat and sat and sat and sat... until finally the bartender greeted us and handed us menus. We seriously waited upwards of ten minutes before being greeted and the place was dead, so being busy wasn't the reason. The bartender then proceeded to play on his phone and talk to another customer at the other end of the bar and never even came back and took our order. We were in there for at least fifteen minutes total and couldn't even place a drink order. I wish I could comment on the food since I have heard some good things, but I never even got to try it.

I agree with the posters below. I don't know what's happened to Deagan's. the food used to be amazing. Now they changed the menu, shrunk the portions, and hiked up prices. This used to be one of my favorite restaurants in Lakewood. I hope they can get things figured out.
Disappointed
Very Disappointed!!. My husband and I LOVED the Deagan's Burger, it was a wonderful treat for the taste buds. We just recently went to Deagan's to get our "fix" and to our dismay they had totally changed the burger. What a disappointment! Gone was the wonderful apple bacon, the best onions I've very had (and I'm not an onion lover), and they changed the bun. Even the flavorful pickle was no more. Did I mention they even took the sweet potato fries off the menu. I read they got a new chef and if this is your fault new chef, shame on you! You messed with a good thing and now it's gone, please bring it back!

Downhill since Summer 2012. Deagan what happened!!??

First off, let me say that Deagan's used to be handsdown without a doubt my favorite resturant in the Cleveland area, amazing food, decent prices for the bistro/gastro pub variety, the atmosphere and decor are great, beer selection is excellent. Id always bring people there because of the atmosphere, beer menu, food menu and specials it was always a win-win for everyone. One thing to note is for Lakewood, it's always been a little pricy but the food was so good it was worth it. I easily dined at Deagans once a week or more and found myself craving takeout orders when I didnt have time to go and wait (as there was often a wait for tables).
Since this new chef started there have been notable changes to the menu, the quality of the food and the prices.. Deagan's you were pricey before but it was ok because the food was awesome, seriously amazing. Now that it's subpar, you've got to be kidding for what you are trying to charge.
I did like the grilled corn rolled in cheese, thats actually one of my favorite street foods and I was super pumped when I saw that on the menu. However, the calamari that was amazing is no longer available ( I get it, new chef, wants his own stamp but when you have a winning lottery ticket you dont throw it away).
I tried the lamb meatballs, all I can say is horribly gross, TINY and way over priced. Taco night used to be a regular part of my week, not anymore, I get it they are cheap tacos but where 1-2 and a beer would leave me full, not Im dissatisfied. Apparently greens are too expensive to be used in Taco night now, or so I was told by our waitress. I tried a "cobbler" that tasted like a dried out, crusty coffee cake, even though "coffee cake" was on the dessert special list, seriously people dont want nasty dried out desserts, they want sexy, creamy, moist desserts. The new upcharge for the "house" truffle parm fries that used to be standard, LAME, FYI your fries arnt anything to write home about plain. I wish I could relay all the disapointments of the other dishes but they just wernt memorable enough to recall, or I tried to block them out of my memory because they were so disapointing. On one occassion I did complain to the waitress that the food just wasnt the same quality, didnt taste very good and I was very unsatisfied after being a longtime fan, a manager was brought over to tell me "sorry thats how you feel", seriously dont even bother with half assed customer service.

Well Deagan's I think its time we breakup, things started off so well, but lets me honest, it's you not me and I dont know if you will ever change.

Peaked and Declining. Just checked out the new menu since the changing of the chefs... My husband and I were disappointed... A couple of small plates we ordered... they should change this title of the menu to TEENY TINY PLATES. 2 scallops were 12 bucks and 2 pierogis for 10 dollars. Not even big scallops or pierogis just normal sized. The scallops were good, there was some other junk on the plate, I believe shaved brussels sprouts, grapefruit and some pomegranate... not impressive nor would I order again- simply not worth it. The pierogis were filled with some kind of beef, cheese and potato, my first bite was just a doughy edge, two pierogis in my book are never worth 10. Maybe 4, (MAYBE) but measly 2? I always feel I don't mind spending a little more for better food, but I just felt ripped off and taken advantage of at this point. I always felt before coming to Deagans I got a fair value, maybe a little more than your average restaurant, but it was always worth it to me. Now, maybe we won't be rushing back. They removed the osso buco from the entrees, which was my husband's favorite. They still have chicken and waffles, fried fish, which were two standbys for us. I noticed a few people getting cheese boards at the bar, but that's not for me I like real hearty portions that don't leave me hungry. I understand the plate is "small" but it should fill you up and be enough to split. I am a little shocked because we loved this place so much....

One of my favorite places. Servers are attentive. Food is great. Prices are moderate. Love the Mac & cheese. Great list of beers including draft.

Still pretty good, Wed. still great. I really like Deagan's, the food is good, the staff very nice and attentive. However, while I think Deagan's is good, it used to be great. Prices seem to have increased recently and portions are on the small side, even for the full portion. I used to eat their more often but they've made changes to the menu and it's not as Veg friendly as it once was. Wednesday night is still amazing (I'd eat there every Wed. if it weren't so dang expensive) with a rotating menu of dishes for Vegetarians and Vegans. And Taco Tuesday is affordable with several tacos on the menu, although the standard veg one is not as good as the Seitan (unicorn) taco, but for $2 I'm not complaining. I guess to sum it up, if you're an omnivore who doesn't mind spending a bit, Deagan's is a nice place with a good atmosphere, If you're Veg, wait till Wednesday...

I had heard such great things about Deagans and was very disappointed with it. While the food sounded great as described by the menu it was just average. There are just too many really great restaurants in the Cleveland area to spend time returning to this one.
Lin
GOOD BUT OVERPRICED. The food is good and fresh but way overpriced for what you get. For example, "Small Plates" such as shrimp tacos costs $10 and there are only two tacos short on filling. For $10....three tacos would be more reasonable or an additional something served on the side. Same goes for all the "small plates." Service is excellent.

Fresh. What stands out most is the freshness of every ingredient. Chopped seasonal salad was wonderful - never raved about a salad before. The sausage app with mustard and peach salsa (!) had a burst of 'mismatched' flavors we both found exciting; vive la mismatch! BBQ pork chop was thick-cut and all meat, done perfectly with tasty artisan baked beans and coleslaw. Crostini and goat cheese small place wast addictive, and the Quad-chocolate dessert was too much, which was just right. Splurged on a St. Andre cheese, which was smooth & buttery. Everything was perfect, and perfectly fresh!
Steven Tucker
Quality delined, prices way up. Up to charging $18 for a simple fish and chips dinner now. Quality and quantity have both seemed to have declined in the past year.

Birthday Dinner. Everyone tried everyone's food....all were great! From shrimp tacos, eggplant roll ups, fish and chips; or duck mac n cheese and even chicken and waffles.....no complaints at all. Deserts: Fuji Apple Cranberry cobbler with liquor ice cream to die for.......no so great banana cream cheese cake.....didn't taste any banana at all---more like spice cake with chocolate ice cream which was tasty. More than we hoped to spend but all was delicious and we left stuffed. Had a unique beer with banana's and cloves and that was good too.

3 out of 4 of us loved our food at brunch. The Cuban was good but not something I would brag about. The chicken and waffles(two orders). Both Wonderful. One with blackberry and one with maple syrup. Equally delicious. The poor French toast bombed. The bread was soggy. Pretty much undercooked. The staff was so polite in taking it back and bringing out a way better version. The cocktails were dee-lish. Thanks for an all around great morning.

Best Fish Taco Ever. The taco tuesday fish taco should be added to the regular menu, it's awesome.

My First Experience at Deagan's. I went on a late Sunday morning to have brunch with my mother. We went in the back entrance and walked up the stairs where we saw a young girl in her Sunday dress waving and smiling. She belonged to a family that was waiting for a table, and I noticed it was fairly packed for a Sunday afternoon. At first, I was told there was going to be a twenty minute wait. However, an employee came over to inform us that we actually could be seated right away. She double checked that the tables were clean and we followed her to the table. Instantly I felt welcomed. As I walked to the table, I noticed large groups of people, co-workers or friends at the bar, and families dressed up presumably coming from church. There was reclaimed hard wood floor and a mix-match of chairs at the tables which were all reused sturdy wooden chairs. I took my seat at a high top table, which I must admit felt slightly small. However, this is probably my only complaint. Two entrees and an appetizer would have barely fit, and that does not leave room for a purse or any other belongings. Keep in mind it was the only the high top tables that were like this; the bar and regular tables looked like they had a surplus amount of room. I took a glance at everybody else in the room which consisted of smiling families, a group of young adults around high school or college age, and friends at the bar. I did not notice any complaints or unhappy faces. I also watched the waitresses bring out food and noticed that all of the portions were huge. So far, great portions and great service to match.
Anisa, the waitress, came over to the table. Energetic and friendly, she informed us about the food, create your own Bloody Mary station, and mimosa's which were the special at the time. She offered to bring waters while we perused the menu. Deagan's menu does change, but they are known for several dishes. Their menu was only somewhat small, but for a menu that changes frequently and worries more about quality than quantity, a complaint should not be necessary there. Some words were foreign on the menu, but fairly easy to figure out. One thing I greatly admired about the menu was that I could easily tell that the chef cared about the quality of the ingredients used in all of the dishes. The food did not contain pesticides or hormones, the chicken was amish, the maple syrup all from Ohio, and the cheese from Great Lakes Cheese Company. Using local ingredients does mean that seasonality would effect what courses can be served, but the restaurant seems to have no trouble keeping clientele with a changing menu. In fact, it is often exciting and new. What's also great was that the prices were incredibly reasonable. An entree ranged from $10-15. Personally, I thought this was fabulous considering the giant portions you get and the excellent quality of the food.
After reviewing the menu in depth, I finally settled on the classic chicken and waffle, which I thought was appropriate for my brunch. This included a fluffy Belgian waffle on which fried chicken sits, with a side of cayenne butter and Ohio blackberry maple syrup. I also ordered their famous house made donuts with mixed berry preserves as well. My mother ordered a Canadian bacon quiche with "insalata" (salad). We also ordered a tropical mimosa, which consisted of part champagne and part orange juice.
It did not take long before the house made donuts came. The small bite-sized donuts arrived in a small white bowl with newspaper to cradle them, which I thought was unique and cute. They were covered (but not smothered) with cinnamon and powdered sugar. The berry preserves that were served with it was a perfect companion, providing a fresh and slightly tart flavoring to the sweet, sugary donuts. Right as we were on our last one, our entrees came! The timing was great, and I never thought that I was waiting too long for my food. The portions looked huge, and I could feel the steam coming off from the chicken, the aroma wafting in the air. Upon the first bite, I was instantly amazed at how well the flavors blended together. My mouth watered immediately at the delicious taste. The waffle was perfectly cooked, the chicken was wonderfully soft with a sweet, crispy coating. The Ohio blackberry maple syrup had a savory, rustic taste to it which I was very pleased by. I swiped one of my bites in the cayenne butter, which was served as a cold dollop on the side of the waffle. I was not prepared for the after taste of the cream, which was then spicy. It was a surprising kick, which still complimented all the other flavors. I would have never thought to have mixed together a waffle, chicken, blackberry syrup, and cayenne butter. Thankfully, the flavors worked very well together. Although I did not try any of my mother's Canadian bacon quiche or the salad, the portion looked great. It also looked fresh, and the salad was very crisp and clean.
Our waitress came several times through out the evening. It never seemed like too much, but I didn't feel ignored either. At one point, she talked with us for several minutes about her love for the food and how she liked where all the food came from. I could tell she believed in the passion that the chef had for the food. She was extremely fun, polite, and knowledgable. After paying for the check, we walked out the front door to get a feel of the neighborhood. Upon leaving, I glanced around the restaurant. There were petite lights hanging over the tables with paintings on them, there were chalkboard signs on the wall with all the different quality beers they served, and beneath that was the create your own Bloody Mary station.
I can see myself coming here in the future for an event such as a late night meal with friends or a significant other, a small celebration, or to meet with co-workers. The music was at a good level and even with the conversation in the restaurant I could still keep up a conversation while talking at a normal level. What makes this restaurant so appealing was the excellent service, the price for the portion and quality of food, and the comfortable ambiance. When you go to Deagan's you can't go wrong!

The meatloaf is incredible! They put a BBQ sauce on it that is great. Had the manicotti which is very good as well. Great atmosphere; plan to go back.

Love this place!!!. Great atmosphere & customer service and best of all, love the beer list. Definitely coming back here!!!

I am a regular at Deagans and I love it here. The food is great the beer selection is amazing and the atmosphere is.top notch.

Excellent place Get the chicken and waffles! Really.

One of My Favorites. I have been to Deagan's numerous times - for lunch, brunch, dinner dates, drinks, and with groups of friends. I always find the food to be delicious and the service top notch. They have a great beer/wine/cocktail selection and I really enjoy their mimosas for Sunday brunch.

Only once did I have a sub-par meal - and, surprisingly, it was an overdone, dried out burger. I haven't had a burger that bad in ages.

Occasionally, I think the prices are a tiny bit steep for the quantity of food, but the quality more than makes up for it.

This is my go-to place in town and I'm so happy it's here.
Jfsn
I was disappointed. Read about the wonderful restaurant and went there ordered the mac/cheese lobster dish. the waitress said portion was 60 /40 mac cheese lobster ratio. wrong--more 90/10 and that might be a stretch. i wish i had tried another dish. maybe the next time i visit cleveland i will.
Christine Barnes
Fantastic food, bread pudding is worth saving room for!! Ask for Jenn, she was amazing! Highly recommend 15 min from the city.

Awesome. So glad I live close by! One of the best places in Cleveland...
Jessica Faulstich
Holy Mother of God, is this place delicious.. My first experience with Deagan's was back in February where I sampled some of their beers and Pommes Frites. The Pommes Frites definitely received my seal of approval, and their beer selection is one of the top in Cleveland.

My second experience was a couple of weeks ago. I enjoyed the Shrimp Tacos and the Prime Rib Tacos (on special). Both types are a soft taco with creamy avocado, cilantro and a pico de gallo sauce that is transcendental. Why am I not eating this right now??

We also munched on the sesame crusted calamari, drizzled with a sweet and sour sauce and wasabi cream (omnomnomnom).

The prices are spectacular for this level of food as well. With beers, appetizers, 4 entrees and the tip, we got out at around $100.

I will gladly go here again, and bring any of my out of town friends here as well.

Ponzo(?) Tofu Salad Ohno!. Let me preface this review by saying that I have eaten at Deagan's before and been very happy with my meal there. But tonight's meal was so drastically different that I had to make sure that others go forewarned.

Unless you like your tofu rolled in salt and then deep fried. Stay away from the Ponzo Tofu and soba noodle salad. The tofu was inedible! It is my fault that I did not send it back to the kitchen after the first bite, but I am not prone to send food back. The dish arrived looking okay, but I was immediately disappointed that the tofu was deep fried (or appeared to be because it was almost black.) I don't eat deep fried food and it wasn't explained that way on the menu. The waitress said it had a light Asian maranade. But when I tasted it, the crust was too salty (soy Saucey) to eat. I cut the salty fried edges off of the tofu and ate the middle. (Which gave me two small bites of tofu) with the Asian style soba noodle salad. The noodle part was good.

Because I am vegan I ordered the side of vegetables to complete my meal. I asked that it be prepared with just a little oil. The oil was overdone compared to what I asked the waitress for.

The thing that I thought was odd was I told the waitress that the tofu was inedible, and she didn't offer to take it back and bring me something else.

Too bad I had to buy dinner and go home and fix myself something to eat.

Hey, my husband's fish and chips looked good.
Claudia Hlebcar Douglass
Love it. My husband and I are regular customers of Deagan's and are always happy with the experience. We dined there again tonight, and as always were more than pleased with everything. The service is always terrific, and the food never disappoints. I can't speak for the red meat or poultry on the menu, but everything else I've had has always been top-notch. Tonight they had specials of an heirloom caprese salad with fresh mozzarella (to die for!) and a softshell crab dish (awesome!). Some regular menu items I would recommend would be the calamari, the crisp eggplant, and the ahi tuna tacos on Taco Tuesday. But pretty much everything I've tried has been more than worthwhile. The next time you're thinking of waiting two hours for a mediocre grilled cheese (with lousy service) that you could probably make better at home, think about heading one block west up Detriot to Deagan's. You may have to wait a bit if it's during peak hours, but the wait will most likely be shorter and WAY more worth it!

Still tasty even as takeout. So coming off my scathing review of another Lakewood establishment, I was quite pleased to have something happy and positive to say about Deagans. One crazy Sunday morn I was in desperate need of a mimosa and coffee so my husband and I TRIED to take our 2 yr old son for brunch. Yeah right! After climbing the walls(literally)and crawling under the table, my husband whisked him out to the car while I sucked down my drink and waited for our now to go food. Chicken and waffles and shrimp and grits may not sound fancy to some, but Deagans nailed it! All I can say is that cayenne butter is WOW! Also shrimp in Cleveland is always a risk, but mine was wonderful and my grits creamy and perfect. Paula Deen would be proud y'all! Anyway after all that I will be happy to return to Deagans sans my 2 yr old and try what I hear are delicious dinner entrees. Oh and lest I forget the wait staff, whoever the sweet girl was taking care of us, nice job as well!
Robin Sweeney

Brunch & dinner. Have been to both and the food was excellent. Was a bit dissatisfied with the potatoes being cold and having to send them back as well as the steak & eggs not coming with toast and having to pay an extra 2 bucks or something for it on the brunch. But must say the steak was prepared to perfection and extremely tender. The flavored mimosas were awesome. Was so looking forward to the Moscow mules only to find out they didn't have the copper mugs to make them. Hope they get some or at least take them off the menu. The dinner filet was also just as wonderful as the breakfast steak.

Thought the food was okay, service was eh at best. Then 3 out of 5 of us ended up sick. Will skip this one from now on.

Terrible Food Terrible Service. A group of 4 of us went to Deagan's last night. Now, this is the second time we've been there. The first time the food was cold and not good at all. This last time the manager had to apologize as our order was taking too long. When the waitress asked how I prefer the Salmon as the chef recommends it rare I knew something was wrong. I have never had anyone ask how to prepare salmon. It came out dried and hard as nails. Never will we return to such a disgusting place with terrible food.

Finally, a true gastropub. I've been here several times and every dish ordered thus far has been beyond what I expected. The prices are very reasonable, and I typically leave with a doggie-bag (to which the dog is never the recipient!).

The only thing that could use improving would be the hit-or-miss service. While the staff is mostly attentive, they are very young and you can literally hear crickets chirping when asking specifics about the menu items; that last girl didn't know what Sriracha was, blasphemous!

Other than that you will usually see Deagan running around the dining room making quick conversation with the patrons. He seems like a really nice guy; I hope this place sticks around for a while.

Interesting food, great atmosphere. Let me just get this out of the way: yes, I am old. Yes, I grew up on broiled steaks, Chinese food in a can, brick-like meatloaf and fried everything. Never knew anything about non-WASP food until I moved to Cleveland in my 20's. So the potential to dislike the food at Deagan's was there. Because I still like mashed potatoes - with just butter. But I've learned to love signature foods from all the 6 and 1/4 decades I've lived through. Deagan's has some challenges to old ideas about food. That's a very good thing in Deagan's hands. A party of four - my daughter, son-in-law, husband and I - ate at Deagan's right before Mother's Day. The building is where the old Barnacle Bill's used to reside but there were no cockroach's on Deagan's walls. Exposed brick and old wood made me happy just looking at it. Clean, well decorated space made for confidence in the purity of the food. The service was attentive without being intrusive. The server was friendly and helpful to a tee. The food was interesting and kept the dinner talk flowing. We shared an arugala, cranberry and walnut salad that was one of the "small plates". There was enough for all four of us to get more than a taste, and what a good taste it had! The dressing aided each of the flavors to blend and yet be distinct enough to recognize. The arugala was not bitter, but had a slightly spicy, peppery taste that was a far cry from my home grown arugala used in salads. Each of us got different dinner entrees so that we could share. My husband's salmon was cooked perfectly, flaky and moist yet cooked through. My bangers and mash were fine, but the sausage was not English sausage which is very flavorful yet mild. The sausage was spicier, fatter and a bit greasy. Though I enjoyed it with the mash, I'll probably not order it again. My son-in-law's fish and chips were delicious. The batter was a tempura type, which I found very pleasing. Finally, my daughter had the Saturday's special steak. It was very beautiful, ordered medium rare and delivered with a lovely pink/red interior. The sauce added to the overall enjoyment. Everyone seemed to enjoy each other's selections. We made room for dessert and here we had a mixed review. My husband's bread pudding was, to him, a disappointment as it bore little resemblence to tradional bread pudding. Others might enjoy it. My tiramisu had very few notes of the coffee element I love but was very light and delicious. The other desserts were enjoyed thoroughly - especially my son-in-law's brownie sundae. I look forward to coming back and trying Deagan's other dishes.

Great ambience for drink, hard to say the same for food. I admit I walked in with high expectations. My friend could not stop talking about the place. and encouraged me to check it out. I was pleasantly surprised by interior decoration, a nice combo of rusty look and Urban post industrial ceiling. Beams painted in silver grey was a bold move.
Menu was limited but had tempting names. I chose yellow tuna fin Salad. The portion was huge but I wasnt comfortable with the spice chosen for the tuna and how it was cooked. Somehow Tuna was chewy and I had to force myself to finish it. I defintely consider the place as a cool bar to hang out and have a drink or two and probably try another place for dinner after that.

Worst lobster mac and cheese I've ever had. I actually had to stop eating and order some roasted nuts- which were somehow also disgusting. And I'm a guy that will eat anything! First time this has ever happened to me!

Vegetarian friendly!. As per my usual protocol, I looked at the menu before my boyfriend and I decided to eat there. As soon as I saw vthe Veg Sliders on the menu I knew it would be a great place to check out. I must say that they were everything I was hoping for and more. Perfectly done and very tasty and my boyfriend thought there beef burger was exceptional as well. Great food and wonderful service, we will definitely be going back soon,

Delicious food and interesting beer choices!. Deagans is considered a "gastro-pub" , which is basically in terms of explanation, fancier than bar food but not quite top-tier restaurant food. Honestly though, the food at Deagans is totally top notch and very much amazing. The Calamari is the best i've ever enjoyed both in relation to flavor AND consistency. The Spicy Shrimp taco's are out of this world, flavor-wise, although i DO wish you'd get a few more on your plate. (two plates covers me) Also the Peking Duck mac and cheese is a creamy wonder of a meal! Really, i could go on and on and on. It is all fantasically awesome!

Moving onto the beers, they have some oddball choices which i found interesting. One is called "the Broadway" and it is a combo of Pepsi and beer. It is mild and i love the drink as a laid back kind of affair. I also sampled the guiness and champagne, which proved to be pretty different as well. The regular list of choices is also pretty solid and another solid part of Deagans. Lastly, the decour is top notch and very snazzy. It is the kind of place Lakewood has needed for years and i love it!

The Best. Best restaurant ever. Best bar ever. The end.

****. Great service, most of the food was very good, but the fries were grossly salted. If you can actually see the salt crystals on the fries and your fingers there is way to much salt!

Great new place in town!. There's nothing you can go wrong with coming here. If your vegetarian many options, if your a carnivore you won't be disappointed. The bar set up is nice an open with many options in beer and other drinks. Try you'll love this place.

Best Restaurant in Lakewood. Deagan's is definitely the best restaurant in Lakewood. I have been there several times and have never had a bad meal. The chicken and waffles are wonderful. The daily specials are all so good that it makes it hard to choose. They also have vegan night on Wednesday and Taco's on Tuesday. This is truly a great addition to Lakewood and I would highly recommend......

Delicious and creative. Made a first time visit on a recent Sunday and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Ordered from the relatively new brunch menu...The lobster mac and cheese was decadent and the champagne viniagrette on the side salad was phenomenal. I had grilled shrimp with grits and it was delicious although it could have come out hotter. My fiance spent 10 minutes at the Bloody Mary bar making his cocktail...claimed it had EVERYTHING!! The wait staff was great. We will return soon!

Fab-u-lous!. My sister, brother in law and I went to Deagan's to check it out. Everything was great. We had the deviled eggs and mussels for starters. Probably not two items that you would normally order together, but we wanted to really sample the menu. I had the Peking Duck Confit Mac n Cheese and was amazed at how good it was. I think it rivals Michael Symon's mac and cheese. A really good sized portion and it was sooooo good. My sister had the fish and chips. The fish was tilapia. the batter was of a nice consistency - definitely there but didn't overpower the mild tilapia. My brother in law had the bangers and mash. It was really good. It tasted like there was some anise in the bangers. Enough to give you that "yumm, what is that", but not so much that all you taste is the licorice. For dessert we had the creme brulee. It also was really good. A smooth custard that held its shape. I've had brulee at other places where the custard was really runny. The wine and beer selection definitely puts the "pub" in gastropub. We all can't wait to go back to try more of the menu. It is also a great space. Wood floors, a nice bar and plenty of seating.

I was really excited to go to Deagan's as I had heard great things about it from friends. I was less than impressed with the food. Very limited menu. My friend and I split two entrees. We started with the pecan crusted chicken salad. Not great, in fact, neither of us liked the chicken and ate around it. Since the menu was so limited we opted to split the burger. Dry dry dry. Very disappointing. Cool atmosphere though.

The most amazing new hot spot in cleveland, the food is a taste of heaven, the atmosphere is warm and friendly, hospitality at its best. :)

What a gastropub should be!. I have been here a few times and I love it! Great atmosphere (the bar is huge and cozy), and the food is outstanding. I order something new everytime and so far I have not been dissapointed. If you are with a group of people, order a board. A great selection of cured meat, nuts, cheese, and fruit, YUM! The refurbished tables and the wall mural really set the charm for this place. I have noticed that the past couple of times coming here, it has been difficult getting a table for 2, even though there were empty tables that seat 4. While I love that big round table in the back of the restaurant, I think they need to get rid of it. It is always empty everytime I come here. Also, I love how the waiting area is decorated but the one table is really close. I kinda feel bad sitting on the black ottoman having to face someone while they are eating. I'm thinking open ended bookcases to partition off the area. But all that doesn't matter. It is the food that does and I highly recommend it. A++++ Deagan's!

See you soon! Betty W.

Delicious!. Food was AMAZING! Amish Chicken and Waffles with a Blackberry Maple sauce...WOW! My husband enjoyed a great burger also. The beer selection is great...and the atmosphere is cool, casual. Great place to go hang out, watch the game, have some beers and enjoy some great food! Excellent addition to the Lakewood food scene! Highly recommended!

Deagan's is phasing in. Fine beer menu, engaging staff and surroundings, and
diverse menu -- both as to source and execution. To call two halves of a single egg "Deviled Eggs" is a stretch. Go for the lusty Ohio Beef Burger with tillamook cheese and applewood-smoked bacon, or the generous plate of bangers(4) and mash.

My family was faced with a two hour wait at Melt down the street. We decided to try Deagan's instead. It was terrific! I had the veggie sliders with truffled frites. Delicious.

Delicious shrimp tacos. We ordered take out from here a few weeks ago to try it out and were amazed. The food is awesome. We ordered the shrimp tacos and the calamari and they were perfect. I normally don't like shrimp tacos, but theirs are truly an exception to the rule. I suggest everyone try this place, even if you have a little baby like we do, at least get take-out.

Fantastic addition to Lakewood. Simple Concept - Great Beer and Great Food brought together by a fun and energetic staff.

Fantastic. Try the Fall Beets if they have them on special what a surprise!

Great atmosphere-Great Food!. I have had dinner there three or four times. The Calimari was amazing, the creamed corn with truffle oil is to die for and the duck mac and cheese is yummy. The Creme Brulee was amazing as was the pumpkin cheesecake. The service was friendly and attentive and the owner stopped by the table each time we were there. Glad to have a great pub in Lakewood.

Impressive Menu. Lots of unique items. Everything was great. The Devil on Horseback app is awesome. Get the Big Charcuterie platter for only $20. It's a meal in itself. The fries are delish as are the house roasted nuts. Definitely going to be a regular. So excited about this new place.

Updated Jan 2013
Been a regular since I posted but I have to say I am not impressed with the newer menu. Prices jumped and I can't figure out other than profit what has increased. The Big Board is $10 more, small plates are more, bar snacks seem smaller but more $.

Still a good place to eat, but be prepared to pay more now.

Great Food Now in Lakewood. The food was great. I had the Peking Duck Confit Mac and Cheese and my wife had the Open Faced Pork Barbeque (which is only on their lunch menu). The food was excellent. This type of food is normally only found in Ohio City or Tremont and it is great to have a place in Lakewood with this type of food. For dessert we got the Lion Stout Brownie Sundae and it was to die for. Very rich. The service was great and the owner even stopped by to make sure everything was good. The Pub is very cool and not pretentious. Overall very pleased and will be coming back. For all of the food our check came to $30 which is not that unreasonable. We had to drink two Diet Cokes but they did have a very large selection of craft beers.

This place is great. Just opened up and it's got a cozy pub feel that I love. Food's great and the staff although new are very friendly and well trained. I recommend coming here for a visit your self.

We liked the casual atmosphere. Although we sat in the bar area, it still had a family friendly feel. The beer selection was a high point for us, and we also appreciated the focus on local, seasonal products. There were quite a few things on the menu that looked worth trying, so we would be willing to go back.

Anyway, this place is really great. Nice casual vibe, a nice mix of metal and rustic decor, with a pretty eclectic menu. The beer list is long, and they have some interesting nightly specials. Tonight, all wine bottles were half off - a great deal for wine drinkers!

Deagan's, a self described gastro-pub opened a couple of months ago in downtown Lakewood. I hadn't been yet, so when some former co-workers decided to have their Friday happy hour there I was very interested. From the outside signage I was expecting more

The menu at Deagan's has many options to choose from, plus they offer nightly specials. We had a hard time deciding what to order so we decided to do our own "Chef's Tasting" by ordering several small plates instead of us each getting one entree. I inquired if they have considered offering a Chef's Tasting option in the future. I was told it was definitely being considered, so we hope to see that option soon. To start out meal we decided to order the Devils on Horseback. Devils on Horseback are bacon wrapped dates, that came with watercress and some chile paste on the side if you wanted a little extra kick. I thought the plating of this dish was very visually appealing, especially the bright green and reds of the chilies. The taste took things a notch up from the looks. The bacon wrapped dates were

The shrimp tacos were easily our favorite, and really reminded me that we need to get to Deagan's for their Taco Tuesday celebration. The fresh cilantro and (I'm assuming) house-made guacamole both added such a freshness and "clean" flavor to the dish.

Located in Cleveland’s west side suburb of Lakewood is a newly opened Gastropub called Deagan’s Kitchen and Bar. Having been opened less than a year, they are quickly becoming a destination spot for those looking for a drink after work to those looking for high quality food in a relaxed and comfortable environment. Deagan’s menu offers very reasonably priced upscale bar fare. Food selections are broken up into bar snacks, tapas, entrees, charcuterie/cheese/antipasto, boards, and desserts. Spicy Shrimp Tacos- avocado, corn, white cheddar, micro cilantro ($9) paired with one of their many draft and bottled beer selections will make a special treat any time of day or night. Monday’s are half-price bottles of wine. Tuesday bring taco night from 5pm to 10pm. On Wednesday, Deagan’s pays special attention to vegetarians and vegans featuring 6-8 special entrees. Plans for Sunday brunch are in the works as well. Hours of operation are Sunday through Thursday from 11am t

The salad was light and fresh, topped with brandied walnuts, dried cranberries, and goat cheese. I had heard great things about the duck mac ‘n cheese and I was not disappointed. The mahon cheese sauce was smooth and creamy and not overpowering – you could taste the duck flavor throughout. The pasta was perfectly cooked and the English peas added just the right hint of spring freshness to the dish. And the duck – chunks of tender, delicious duck throughout the mac ‘n cheese made this a fantastic dish. Trust me, this “small plate” is more than enough f

For the fourth installment of The Veggie-Vegan Project, I turned to a friend and fellow food blogger, Jill , who through the Meetup group she managed, Cleveland Eats , taught me about this month's dining hotspot, Deagan's Kitchen & Bar. It turned out that Deagan's offered a daily specials menu and on Wednesdays, not only could you order from their regular menu, but also from a specially prepared list of both vegetarian and vegan based dishes. While I was originally supposed to join the Cleveland Eats group when they originally went back in February, unforeseen personal circumstances kept me from that night. So, to rectify the situation, this past Wednesday, myself, Eric, Paul, and Edsel descended upon Deagan's around 6:30 PM to sample some of the veggie-vegan treats off the menu. Deagan's was located at 14810 Detroit Avenue, Lakewood, OH 44107 and can be reached at 216-767-5775. They have a website as well. There was a street-side entrance and a rear entrance behind the building where

Our service was excellent. The only complaint we might have is noise. The music in the background was all but inaudible due to the sounds of conversation, which seems more amplified than absorbed by the open floor plan. That said, we were still able to hear each other talk, and most of the time I was far more focused on the tastiness of the food and beer than on any background conversations.

My Ohio Beef Burger was barely overcooked and thoroughly juicy; the bacon maintained an incredible level of crispiness throughout, and the fries, while warm and soggy rather than hot and crisp, were ok with the ketchup served in a little tin cup. Babies were held aloft around many of the tables; one little kid had learned to flip his shirt up in order to get beaded necklaces, and he tried to get the others at his table to join in. We sucked down mimosas and coffees and food and left full and content for Sunday evening shenanigans. All in all, it wasn't the best burger in Cleveland - as some amateurs have alleged - but it was rea
