Review The Yabby Hut - Lakewood

So I love Seafood! Went with a large group of friends! I had Dungeness crab & sides, which I love! Most places like this are pretty pricey, so this one is no different! However for the amount of food I received it was spot on! Everything come in bags, plenty levels of spices!

Family was in town for New Year's and they were in the mood for seafood, the Crawling Crab was closed, so we found this gem, food was fantastic we all enjoyed our meal. Will definitely be back.

The food is a solid 4 but there's two things that really knocked it down. First, this is not a gluten free-friendly restaurant. I was surprised, because every cajun boil restaurant I've been to serves their boils of meat with butter and seasoning, maybe some corn and potatoes. It would have really helped to have an indicator of what seasonings and entrees were gluten free, OR, just state somewhere obvious that nothing is gluten free so people like me can avoid restaurants like this. FYI, the fries are flour battered. I suspected as much but had to ask the waitstaff to confirm it. When we got the boils, the waitstaff said there wasn't flour in them but it really looked like there was. Second, for $140 (includes tip) the two of us ended up at a second restaurant because I was still hungry (I don't eat sugar or gluten so 8-10oz of seafood wasn't going to cut it). I understand food costs are high and there's a labor shortage, so this pricing would have been fine but for the fact we ordered two snow crabs (at ~$26 each) and both were overcooked and stringy. TL;DR: okay food but surprisingly many items are not gluten free (like fries), and the food is overpriced for the way it is cooked

Our server was wonderful! She was friendly, helpful and attentive. Unfortunately the food wasn't so great. My gumbo was like water with a couple vegetables in it and a single shrimp. Whatever that was, it wasn't gumbo! We had razor clams and they were so overcooked it was like chewing rubber, and tons of sand. The small clams were better cooked, but not cleaned very well, sandy. The shrimp were rubber. The mussels were also overcooked and the majority were empty shells. The only saving grace was our waitress was amazing

This place is fantastic. I love the order by the pound/ picnic table theme. The shrimp/scallops/crawfish were all great. Brought my father to this places and became his favorite seafood spot.

7/10 for Cajun food. There market price is actual way high compared to true market price. But very fun environment nice ppl. Probably the best you will get for not being true deep LA Cajun food. Would eat there again but not for the ppl on a budget.

Cindy was rude, impatient and very disrespectful when I attempted to place an order from the online menu. I live in South Denver and the many seafood places around I chose Yubby Hunt, not to be talked down too and treated like a child but the seafood cuisine and the customer service previous. When my daughter picked up the order it was still incorrect which was even more disrespectful b/c it proofed you didn’t hear any thing I ask for. The food is great but when rude, initialed to a tip service is without customer service is not a “thang”. We deserve better Cindy, treat people how you would want to be treated. Just saying.

Went for the live boiled crawfish. First taste seemed like they had been frozen. I ask the waitress several times if they were fresh live boiled and she insisted that they were. Corn was not sweet and potatoes were really mushy (clue #2). I know my crawfish and should have trusted my instincts but I didn't want to make a big scene. Before I left my stomach was starting to hurt. By 11 that night I woke up throwing up....yep. food poisoning. I ate at the other location 2 weeks before. Fresh crawfish, zero issues. This place, never again!

I have no idea how anyone from the South can possibly eat here and think this is good seafood. I went in knowing this wouldn't be like the seafood I love and crave from New Orleans, but I wanted to give it a try, because, seafood. Eating seafood is messy, eating seafood here is BEYOND messy. They give you a bib to keep you clean, but with the "seasoning" which is really more like sauce. I've never had seafood that the seasoning didn't permeate into the flesh, but sat on the outside, so it was definitely a new experience for me. I had blue crab, because, I like the sweet meat inside. When I opened the bag, I thought they had given me more than the three crab I paid for, but the shell was detached from the body, never in my life have I seen this happen. These blue crab were not sweet and instead of the meat being flaky and amazing, it was rubbery, like it was broiled instead of boiled. At first I was thinking it wasn't cooked all the way, I really don't know what the issue was, I've never experienced the texture before. I don't know if these were frozen or exactly how it was cooked, but definitely the worst crab I've ever eaten. I ordered a piece of corn and potato with it, it came mixed in the bag with the sauce. I tried to eat it, but just couldn't. My friend had the shrimp, she said it was overcooked. They do not provide any sort of wet naps, only napkins, so after scraping sauce off my hands using at least a dozen napkins, I washed my hands in the bathroom. I've since washed my hands at least six times, including using an exfoliating scrub and my hands still smell, not in a good way either. I can't wait to have my normal smell back. If you are unfamiliar with seafood, give it a try. If you are use to a certain type of seafood, this isn't the place for you.

From the time I walked in to the time I left I was impressed. The staff was so warm and welcoming. The service was impeccable. I felt like I was at home. The fresh seafood is worth a special trip, especially in Colorado.

Love Yabby Hut! Great food, great service, great atmosphere. Get your bibs on & be ready to gets your hands dirty to crack open all the yummy crawfish. Been here a dozen times or so & will keep coming back for the great food & the very nice staff that work here.

I had steamed shrimp which was tasty, waiter asked me if I was sure I just wanted it steamed (yes) and my husband had oysters on the half and liked them very much. However I asked for one of the spices (sauces) on the side and they couldn’t do that. Friends ordered shrimp and baby crabs with the Yabby sauce. It was tasty but boy that was entirely too much sauce for me. I think it overpowers the tasty meat. I’d go back but would only order steamed food.

My absolute favorite place to go. Never disappointed. The service, the cleanliness, the food and the environment, is always spot on perfect!

Nice taist, but the portions were really small. It was rather messy. Would liked to of had about half of the sauce. All that sauce over powered the delicate taist of the seafood. I would still go back.

We love Yabby Hut! Been going for years. The only problem is the extended waits, especially on the weekend. They need more space, but the food is the best!!

Great Cajun shrimp! Great service! This place is consistently good. We have been coming here for about 4 years now and no other seafood restaurant in Denver beats Yabby Hut!

OK, I may be from Indiana but have always liked Cajun food. I live 4 hours from Denver and every time we get there a meal at the Yabby hut is imperative.

It was a new experience for my Boyfriend and I. I had Mussles with the mild sauce, garlic and butter. They were nice size but the sauce was a bit Spicer then I liked.. My Boyfriend had steamed shrimp. He was disapoint No sides included. I had ordered sweet potatoe fries. Nice portion to share. May try something different if we come again. It's just a block away from my apartment.
