Review Pho Lavang - Lake Oswego

A great alternative to Ivy's Pho & Grill (which just closed-down). The Pho broth was yummy, and the meats were tender & delicious. Portions were very generous. I almost couldn't finnish my Super Bowl. The empty bowl says it all... I also had their grilled pork; which was tender & extremely delicious. Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou. I will definitely be a returning customer.

This is our family's favorite pho place. We go at least once a month. Thier Salt and Pepper squid is savory.sweet and spicy. My daughter is vegetarian and loves the vegetarian Pad Thai.

The best beef stew ever !! We come weekly and have never been disappointed... always the best.

Love this place, first went here shortly after they opened at their previous location to celebrate mother's day and have been coming back ever since. Between generous portion sizes (especially the pho) with excellent taste and quality, a friendly staff that is always very knowledgeable about what is in the dishes, and open to answering your questions, and a open floorplan with good lighting. This restaurant is one of my all time favorites. I just took my Dad here for father's day this year (2022) and we had a great time once again.

Excellent food, quick service, and reasonable prices. Best pho in town!

The owner is fantastic. The restaurant is clean and beautiful. I highly recommended this restaurant. Great location. The owner is really accommodating and friendly. I can't say enough about how wonderful he is. He stayed open late one evening just to make our order when he was about to close. Thank you!

This place has grown from two tabletops to a large spacious restaurant over the years, driven by great food, great prices, and a pleasant staff and atmosphere. The Pho is solid, and the large range of other dishes are uniformly well prepared from quality ingredients. The owner is always three and always working hard to provide a good experience for customers. Can recommend without reservations (especially since they reliably have a table free).

This is the best Pho restaurant anywhere in town. Great food and environment. The owner, Lucy, is super nice and friendly.

We like Pho Lavang because the soup broth is mild and beefy. Because of this, our kids love them. The also provide a generous portion of meats (a lot, seriously). We tried a good number of pho restaurant in Portland and surprisingly, this restaurant is one of the good one. I haven't tried other dishes. We have come here for the past 3 years. Food quality and quantity is consistent. Price is really reasonable considering the amount of protein.

Tried their pho and pad Thai for the first time. Absolutely delicious! Fair prices as well. The restaurant was clean, and the staffs were very mindful about wearing masks and keeping distances while handling food and take-out checkout. Will definitely come back for more

The Vietnamese Sandwich with grilled pork is the bomb! I went to this place for lunch two times back to back. The Pho with brisket is awesome as well. The decor is clean and the folks working inside are amazing. Friendly, clean and great food. Highly recommend it.

Great pho! I've been looking for a good pho place since I moved from southeast Portland to the white suburbs of tigard. This place is on par with some of the best, great broth and great proportions of meat and noodles. The service was great, the cook came out and talked to us and was friendly since we were the only people dining in(its the only way to enjoy pho).

Good food. Be prepared to deal with calling many times to get through. Either it's busy or it goes dead. Tonight (9/26/20) after about 20 calls I'm giving up.

I have had many many bowls of Pho and this one just wasn't very flavorful. The decor of the restaurant was great. Very classy but you pay a classy price. I can tell that they take pride in the experience and they serve other drinks and food as well. I just didn't care for the Pho.

Extremely rude. Went here once with my boyfriend, he likes the chicken noodle pho but I didn't like what I got, you can get much better pho elsewhere. Anyway, never got drinks, employees seemed to not care about us at all, didn't greet us and didn't seat us, didn't even tell us to just pick a spot to sit. We just kind of stood there waiting.

Went back to get some chicken noodle to go, the girl working was rude, acted like we were interrupting all her gabbin' and bitchin' with some of the other employees working. When we told her to have a good day she just said 'yeah' and walked away like we weren't even there. Annoying especially because we tipped them well the first time we went in and gave them a five dollar tip just to get us one pho to go the second time we went in.

In short, everyone that writes good reviews is probably favored for one reason or another by the employees, everyone that doesn't like it have probably experienced how rude the people are here.

Super intimidating an pushy owner, chris LaVang, who favors certain customers aka doesn't treat customers equally. Pho is okay, serving size is huge but there are WAY better places for Vietnamese food. Pick somewhere different other than LaVang restaurant.

****. Seinfeld had the soup nazi Lavang has the noodle nazi. Seriously, once you get know Chris you will find that is good, hard working, kind person....he's just Chris.
I am not a big fan of pho but their bun (noodle) and com (rice dishes) are very good, always prepared with fresh ingredients.

Grerat Food. The food is great and always fresh. I eat there a few times a week for lunch and it is the best value in town. I highly recommend Lavang -

Decent Pho, BUT.... I've only had the Pho so far & it's VERY tasty. The selection is VERY limited as compared to a full-menu Vietnamese restaurant. I really miss the tendon, tripe, and other more original offerings seen from more complete menus.

UPDATE:

I finally tried a dish from the "Other" side of the menu. Should've stayed with the pho. OMG.. what horrid trash! Chicken with peanut sauce was exatly that... tasteless, dry chicken (Albeit a large portion), with thin, tasteless peanut sauce ON THE SIDE. The chicken was sitting on a bed of steamed, unseasoned, unflavored veggies that were TOTALLY American... carrots, broccoli, celery... yuk. At least give me some bok choy & Chinese broccoli.

On top of this, the service was non-existant. The waitress made only the absolute minimum visits to the dining room, & NEVER a check to see how we were doing.

This was our last trip to Lavang. A shame since it's walking distance form our home.

Other items seem to be geared to American pallettes as opposed to be offerings of authentic Vietnamese fare.

Great food and ver personable service. Their rice bowl is great and the fried rice is so good. If you don't like something, they will take care of you. Highly recommend trying this place.

Best Pho in Portland area. Great prices, friendly casual.

Food is good. It's hard to find good price food that is fresh and convenient in our little neighborhood, but this restaurant has them both. I have to admit that the guy running the place is a bit crass most of the time, but I've lived in New York, so this type of attitude is not unique. If you go in with that expectation, then no worries. At the end of the day the food is always good, not fatty like some asian restaurants and while he might not be the friendliest person on the block, the guy running the place does a great job of getting the food to you fast and swift. After going more than once, he knows your face which says a lot, there are a lot of regulars, from what I can tell, from sitting there a couple times and dining in (usually do carry out). You definitely don't want to be there in the summer months that it hits 90 because the restaurant is not air conditioned....but otherwise, fast food, quick service, good quality and tasty is much better than most of the other options

Best Vietnamese Food In Oregon.. Anyone who gets their panties in a twist about the owner just needs to calm down. It is part of the experience. He is hilarious. He is putting on a bit of a show so you just need to take it as that. The food is so incredible I don't care if I was eating it off a piece of cardboard served to me by the soup nazi. It is always an experience going to Lavang. You will always have a story to tell due to the eccentricity of the owner, and a full, satisfied tummy due to the incredible vermicelli noodle, pho, salad rolls...the list goes on. A gem in Lake Oswego!

Changed my mind. I went in for dinner because lettuce wraps sounded good, but as expected, the owner was rude. I don't know if he had a bad day, but he was especially rude. I was sitting there thinking, No matter how tasty the food is here, I shouldn't have to put up with this. I'm giving him business and he has no appreciation for his customers. In an economy like this, he has no room to treat people who are giving him $ like that. Don't go there. There's a lot of great Vietnamese restaurants out there without the crappy attitude. His food isn't THAT good.

Great Pho! I like my Asian restaurants a little dive-ish and Lavang threw me off because its a nice clean place with a serious neighborhood vibe. I was impressed by the owner. It seemed like he knew everyone who came through the door and he made an effort to chat. I got the feeling that I was seeing the real guy and not a fake. So glad my new home town has this gem.

Excellent food! Bring your best etiquette.. Wow, wonderful bun (rice vermicelli salad dish). Nice daylight for lunch; nice shadows in the evening. The cha gio (fried imperial rolls) are wonderful--hand made, chunky miracles.

The waiter (perhaps the owner referenced by others) seems to have a tender ego; he seemed to grow upset with me one evening because I asked (a second time, and halfway through the meal) for the Diet Coke I had ordered when I ordered the rest of my meal.

Realize that this waiter has a tender ego, and tread lightly. All will be well--and the fresh food is definitely worth some effort, if you're in Lake Oswego.

Great place, great service. My husband has been going to Lavang for years for lunch and we went tonight for dinner. Great food, the best egg rolls (yes, egg rolls) that I have had in YEARS. Not sure what went wrong for the previous poster, he and we have never had anything but great service.

Terrible Service - Stay Away. We found this restaurant with our GPS. It looked OK from the outside and when we got inside we were excited. The waiter whom we later found out was the owner led us to our table. He was quite talkative to our 5 year old daughter but we thought he was just being friendly. Things went downhill from here. After waiting about 10 minutes he finally came over to take our order. First he said "you want some appetizers" and I said "no." No big deal. I asked for some drinks and then he said "you going to eat Pho?". I said yes but when I ordered the first item, which wasn't pho, he looked very upset. I explained to him that I wanted Pho for me and my daughter but my wife wanted something else. At first I thought his reaction was a joke but the guy was dead serious. At this point we realized we may not come again. After 5 minutes he brought some Pho out. My daughter's order was wrong but what was more wrong was that he kept talking to her and ignoring me and my wife.... it was getting creepy. I asked again for our drinks and he mumbled something while he walked away apparently ignoring us. 5 minutes later there were no drinks, not even water. A new cusomter came in who new the guy by name... She had drinks within 1 minute. While he was yacking away with his preferred customer my wife went and talked to the other employee and asked her for drinks. She gave her some water and my wife had to carry it back herself. At this point we were not coming back again and I concluded that the guy was either dumb, lazy, ignorant or all of the above. I was wrong since I found out he is just crazy. So after we picked up our own water he brought over a bowl. He said "you wanted a bowl right?". We said "no" and that it was water we wanted. He had an attitude now and we were ready to leave. I said let's eat real quick and get out... no way were we leaving a tip... Things didn't go smoothly though. He was giving us a nasty look and after a few minutes he came over and said "what you upset about the water?" My wife said "yes about the water and upset about the service." He flipped out now and started yelling at us. He grabbed the bowls of food we had while we were eating and told us to get out. I was just dumbfounded now. I said "let's go." One the way out my wife talk to the other employee and asked to speak to the manger. She said he was the owner. He starting yelling quite a bit now and we got out pretty fast. While in the car I saw the guy throwing stuff around the restaurant at our table completely ignoring the other diners who were all staring at him...... Long story short, STAY AWAY FROM THIS RESTAURANT unless you like psychotic service from people short of a few marbles. The only person he was nice to was our daughter but that was a creepy sort of nice. This guy clearly had mental issues. This was the worst service I had seen in my whole life. I've seen some pretty bad service but I've never felt so compelled to go online and write a review (my first). Maybe you don't believe me or think I was a high maintenance customer but if you look around you'll see other reviews regarding the atrocious service from this restaurant from this guy....

It's the bomb!. I can't get enough of LaVang... My fave is their Chicken Vermicelli... after their lettuce wrap... Mmmmm!

The owner is very personal and makes us feel at home every time we come in...

I HIGHLY recommend LaVang!

Warning: if you say you want it HOT, prepare to drip in sweat. ;)

It is amazing.. Wonderful service,m wonderful food. The waiter/cook/owner/cashier is really nice. And Jen, he remembers you. Sorry to have to tell you this, but his hands were clean. They were the same hands he used to cook. The reason that he was a bit snappy with you is that he wasn't all that impressed with your reaction. Go figure. My advice is to go back, tell him that you would prefer if he didn't handle your food with his bare hands, and enjoy, because the food is amazing.

The most outrageously bad service I have ever received in almost 40 years of restaurant dining. I can't even comment on the food because we left before eating due to the outrageously bad service. From the moment we walked in, the service was indifferent to the point of rudeness--grunting and pointing to the tables was the way we were told to sit anywhere we liked, being spoken to as if we were stupid when we had to ask the waiter to repeat something (I don't care if you are from Viet Nam or Venus: if you mumble, people are not going to hear you or understand you. There's no need to get huffy about it)--but we just went with it because we had heard the food was good.

We ordered an appetizer of vegetable spring rolls to share, but when they came out they were on one plate. After slamming them down on the table, the waiter realized we needed silverware, so he went to get it. When he came back, my husband politely ordered some hot tea and asked for an extra plate. The waiter went and got another plate, put it on the table, then PICKED UP ONE OF THE SPRING ROLLS WITH HIS BARE HANDS and plopped it on the new plate. I gasped audibly. He said "what?" and my husband, who is too nice for his own good, said "nothing, it's okay" and the guy walked away, but continued to glare at me. I said quietly to my husband that I didn't want to eat here anymore and the waiter comes back over, grabs the plates and says very loudly, "You don't *have* to eat here!" and takes the food away. We promptly left. We will NEVER go back, and I will tell the story of our experience to everyone I know and post it everywhere I can . Thanks for reading.

It might be tucked away on a quiet Lake Oswego side street, but if you are craving good Vietnamese food then La Vang Restaurant is definitely worth the trip. And don’t let the strip mall location fool you; the food is darn delicious! The menu offers somet
