Get this out of the way- the salsa is very weak. No spice at all. But…..the taco sauce they bring to the table makes up for it. The green salsa was amazing and had a nice kick. I order the gorditas and an extra taco because I figured the gorditas wouldn’t be that filling. I was wrong about that. Ordered mine with carne asada and the flavor was perfect. My taco was the Campenchano which had the asada, pastor, potatoes, onions and nopales (cactus). The ingredients were overflowing. Not only great for Lafayette, but this would stand up to any Texas spot. If the chips and salsa were better it would be a perfect meal.

Wow! Can’t begin to say enough good things about the authentic, flavorful, delicious food here. These tacos were on point and better than most I’ve had here in the USA. I will be back, and I’m bringing people! Shout out to Francesca for offering up great suggestions, for me and to the table next to me. 6 ⭐️

Place just opened they have a food truck on mimosa. Upon arrival, it was a little unclear if we should wait to be seated or if it was self seating. After a minute or so, someone seated us. There was some confusion on who the waiter was for our table. Finally, a few minutes later, a manger walked by and got us a waiter quickly. We ordered and didn't have to wait too long for the food. The food came out hot and fresh. Tasting the food, it was all good. The only comment I have is that the steak fajita meat that was on the chimichanga was over salted. Glad to see this local place in a good location. Go visit these guys.

We came here solely on the reviews of the past 3 months. We were seated and waited on promptly. Our waitress Sam was the best waitress that I’ve had in a long time. She is very knowledgeable about the entire menu. Chips were paper thin like we like them, queso was warm and creamy, salsa was to tomatoey for my taste. Our entrees were amazing and the portions were BIG. Bring your appetite or prepare to bring home to go boxes. We will definitely be back. The reason for taking away a star was b/c the water tasted like it came out of a garden hose and they don’t offer bottled water.

The food here is ridiculously good! Bee n twice already and will be back! The lady that took care of us was very nice and helpful. We took every bit of those leftovers home. The little pork street tacos…OMG!

Loved the food. Even the chips and salsa was good. It does look like of like a dive from the front. We will be going back. House margarita wasn't from a mix.

Very good food. Best beef fajitas I've had in quite some time. Good service
Generous portions. Reasonable prices.

Talk about the best customer service! My colleague and I were walking in 10 minutes before lunch ends. We could have been turned around like most places but Addison Pool decided to seat us. Most employees care about their hours and when they get off, but she went that extra mile. Please give her a raise or promotion or both if you own this place. If you plan to eat here ask for Addison!

First time and very impressed. Supreme queso was yum. And fajitas were tasty. We went when they were not busy and there was no music are anything so it was a little quiet. Background music would have been nice.
Shaun Raines
Food was awesome and fresh. Added fresh peppers and onions to the chimichanga which gave it an awesome crunch and taste. Will be back if in the area.

Food was delicious and plentiful. Service was great.
Kim's Tiki Garden
ALWAYS our place for great food. And if you have room, the apple pie is a must!
The fajitas are awesome.

I go there just for the chicken fajita flameado. Everything I've had there is delicious, but that is perfect! Great location.

I ordered chicken fajitas. It was really good. The portion is large enough to eat some now and have a little left over for later. The one thing that shocked me was the salsa. It's warm. The first bite of salsa wasn't the best but I tried it again, it's actually okay. Just much different from what I'm used to. Takes a second to get used to warm salsa. If you can get over there temperature, the taste is good.

Southwestern Egg Rolls and Combo Fajitas for two. Eggrolls and dip were excellent and the fajita plate was outstanding. The beef fajitas were cooked perfectly and very tender. The shrimp were large and were cooked and seasoned well. This meal was on point!

Absolutely fantastic! This used to be my mom and my favorite restaurant when I lived here, but I moved to Lake Charles a few years ago and for my birthday this year I decided to take the drive with my wonderful girlfriend to eat it one more time and it is so much better than I remember. Definitely worth the long drive!

The best fajitas ever!! Drinks were on point as well .
Russell Netherland
Hands down the best fajitas I've ever eaten. Everything that I've tried has been excellent and I'm a pretty picky eater. Wonderful staff and atmosphere!

The food was good. However, they need to train their wait staff to inform customers when prices have changed on drink specials that they have been having years...i.e. Wednesday $1.50 margaritas now cost $7.50 each. The special on Wednesdays is now you get 2 for 1. That cost difference meant about an extra $20 dollars on our bill for a table of 4. When we complained, the wait staff including the manager had what I considered a half hearted, " I'm sorry". My suggestion would be to have offered " a comp" of some sort. Anything! Probably would have not even taken it. But the offer wasn't even made. Its called "quality customer service". So, after four years of going there, they've sent 4 customers to El Paso down the street. I highly recommend El Paso's Tuna Ceviche.

Excellent service, excellent food, excellent vodka margarita...yes vodka!

Jalapeño margarita is delicious and the steak fajitas are the best in town!

This used to be one if my favorite restaurants. We hadn't been here in a long time. My daughter ordered nachos without cheese or sour cream. She assumed that she was not going to get meat since she did not choose a meat from the options on the menu. When the order came, it had ground meat. The waitress never came back to check on us. She was hostess as well. When she finally came back, my daughter explained that she didn't realize it came with meat (when the waitress took the order, she didn't ask what meat she wanted). My daughter asked for another order without meat. She ate a little of the guacamole where there was no meat. The waitress took away the first order and said no problem. She came back with the new order. When we got the bill...we were charged for 2 nachos. Since she was also the cashier, she should have compted that first order. Instead, she charged us for both. Not good customer service. The food was blah and unimpressive. It used to be so good. We should have gone to Taco Bell. When the order is not right there, they make it right without charging you.

Great food and service, GM even checked in on us during and after our meal. Margarita's were excellent before, during and after meal. They also told us about some exciting new changes coming to the restaurant soon.

Chicken fajitas were flavorless. Food was way better a couple of years ago. Service was great.
Justin Dutile
amazing food, always friendly staff, good prices...

Azteca's is my family's go-to Mexican restaurant. The prices and service is unbeatable. You never have to wait long for a table or for your food...even if they're busy. The owner/manager has even waited on us, so we wouldn't have to wait. My favorite is the Tacos El Carbon with the steak. Delicious! And anything with their queso is awesome! Great chips and salsa which are complimentary! Highly recommended!

Rude. Messaged Someone on FB abd got the # to book music there, the Owner. The person Claiming to book the music was rude as heck and hung up on me. I eat food also but will not spend my money there. The person I spoke with is Captian Turdmanship. Take your business elsewhere....
Erica
Very bland food! House margaritas taste like well water. Queso is watery cheese! Very disappointing! I won't even sit here and waste the calories! It's that bad.

Mmmmm. I'm a Mexican food fanatic, and any time I happen to go anywhere else, I can't seem to help but compare it to Aztecas. Nothing else holds up! I find they have the best salsa in Lafayette, along with nice portions, fresh and well seasoned food, and a friendly staff. Plus, you can't beat $1.50 margarita Wednesdays!
McCain
We went to Aztecas with a large group. We knew they would charge gratuity because the menu say large groups will pay 18%. When we received our bill the tip seemed high so I used my tip calculator and found out they charge our entire group 22%.
Also many, if not all of their lunch and dinner portions are the same size (I know because I asked our waiter) but you pay $2-4 more for dinner... This restaurant is sneaky in over charging people for their food and services.

MEXICAN DELIGHT. My husband and I are like Siskel and Ebert in the restaurant world. We love to eat out and critic the food. I have to say...this is a true gem in Lafayette. I stumbled on this place while Christmas shopping and it was like heaven on earth right across the mall. Quiet every time we go, cold beer is refreshing after shopping trips, and the Mexican Sampler is always hot and fresh when I go. YUMMY. My husband loves their burritos and we have nothing but good things to say about this place. The prices are excellent, great food portions, hot and fresh, great service, and cozy enough for date nights. Love it. 5 stars in my book and a true gem in Lafayette.

Average food. Nothing to rave about. Atmosphere was nice and service was good.

Sept 17,2016:. Steak fajita burrito is awesome!! Loved the Steak. I also had the tortilla soup, omg it's super good!! The best I've ever had!!

Aug 27, 2016: Today I had the Steak Fajita Chimichanga, I loved it! Crispy and not to greasy, the Steak had a great marinade and had a beautiful char with a mild smoky taste. Fantastic! Now they have a salsa that is served hot. Very good but I noticed that the cold version had a fresher flavor. I could taste the cellantro and other ingredients better than the cooked down version. All in all good stuff here. Give it a try!

Aug 25, 2012: This is my first time here. Salsa is cold but good, some places have it hot. I can take it either way. Not spicy so all can enjoy. It was earthy and fresh. The margarita is good. Boarders on the tangy side. I have a large and the straw sticks out way to far. Shorten the straws please. You can put an eye out after a few of these lol. I had some white queso with beef. It was good but nothing special. I'm also having the beef, chicken, and shrimp fajitas. The beef and shrimp were by far the best. The beef had a nice char and was tender and juicy. The shrimp were large, butterflied, and cooked nicely. The chicken was good but just slightly on the dry side. It had a nice flavor but just couldn't match the great tastes of the beef and shrimp. For desert I had the Flan. It was very rich and creamy. The sauce is much milder and a little sweeter than many. Others usually are bitter. I liked this flan a lot. Good choice for the adventurous wanting something different! Overall I had a nice time here. The food came fast, was good, and my waitress was very nice and attentive. There a was a mad rush when I arrived and the staff handled it quite well for possible being one person short for this kind of day. Give this place a try.

Not that great & a bit pricey.... I will say that if you go, be sure to order anything that has the grilled steak fajita meat on it. The flavor of the meat is VERY good. Other than that...not so much. Started with an appitizer sampler. Nachos were unflavored ground beef & cheddar, the jalepeno poppers were no better than what you can get at sonic. quesidilla was ok-only because it had steak fajita meat. The soutwest eggrolls were over fried & tasteless. Chimichanga was good-again, only because it had steak fajita meat, the beans & rice were nothing to write home about. Chips and salsa were neither good nor bad, just eh. There is nothing here that stands out, except the pricing, not that it is too expensive, it is jsut that the food isn't all that great so you feel cheated when the bill gets there.
Jami
Pretty pricey for not so great food. Also I paid 14 bucks and two tiny tacos. Wasn't impressed at all. And the service was a joke.

Great, Quality Food. We love Azteca's and it is seriously underrated. Everytime we bring others with us for their first time they wind up loving it too. The fajitas are really good, and you get good pieces of meat. Most mexican restaurants serve you fajitas with little pieces of shriveled of meat, not Aztecas. The service is good, the atmosphere is nice...not too lively. But, I think it's because most people don't notice it's there. Azteca's is definitely a diamond in the rough. And if you want extra seasoning on something, just ask...they are very accommodating. Love the chips & salsa too, I wish they sold their salsa.

Update: I wrote the above review a couple years ago. Now, I wouldn't jump to go to Azteca's, the prices have been raised, and it's just not worth it in this economy. Still, good food though.

Went with a group of friends. Had the craziest waitress I've ever dealt with. I can't even remember what I ate. Take that as the review itself. There were 10 of us who went, it was all of our first time. None of us plan on going back. The food was just unspectacular. Why waste a Mexican food craving here? I see no reason!
Jake Sundberg
Very nice, but a little too pricey. I find that Aztecas is a very nice Mexican restaurant, although I find that they are just a little too expensive. I find myself spending $20 on a meal there when I think I should be spending about $15-$17 for the same meal. I'm not knocking the quality of the food at all, I'm just saying I think it's a little overpriced. As far as the food goes, I tend to get the Delirio and it's quite tasty if you like beef products. I would go back again if I ever get another chance. Would recommend them above almost all else in town.

I love this place! I wouldn't normally get seafood at a Mexican restraunt but the blackened fish tacos and the fajita shrimp are phenomenal. Great food portions for price. I always take home leftovers and the wait staff is always very friendly. Make sure you leave a good tip at this place!
Natalie
The seafood enchildas are heavenly!!!. I went there and had the seafood enchildas. They were soooooo good!!! I can't wait to go back again. The hostess is too sweet! We talked a while, though my waiter was a little on the quiet side.

Not impressed!!! We love mexican food and can not count how many favorite restaurants we have but this one we will not be back 2! It took 15 mins 2 take our drink order, the appetizer and entrees left much 2 b desired. It was not well seasoned and even the appearance of the food was not appealing!!! :-)
JDucket
Alright. I liked the queso and fajitas. Salsa not too bad-would go back...
Richard Hoffkins
Great food at a reasonable price! I just finished off a margarita on the rocks and also a plate of Blackened Fish Tacos. You get three soft tacos filled with blackened tilapia strips served with sour cream, guacamole and poco de gallo. The atmosphere is nice and the wait staff are courteous, also the food was served pretty quick.
Knox Bundy
Average at best. In any other town, I might have liked Aztecas more. But with all the GREAT restaurants in Lafayette, this place is merely so-so. Just nothing special about it in any way, from the food to the service.

Second choices are sometimes just not worth it. Mexican food and the digestive system can occasionally embrace in what can affectionately be described as a love/hate relationship. Most of the time, the reprocussions of a particularly unreasonable clash can be amusedly borne.

However, when a restaurant's food has one alternately sitting uneasily upon and then embracing the porcelain goddess in an unnamed bookstore, not ten minutes after finishing, it is to be avoided at all costs.

On August sixth, my fiancee` and I decided to go to Aztecas, after trying {and the mourning the apparent death of} the nearby and closed Bennigan's/Shennanigan's. Now, I shall grant you that we visited this establishment about an hour before closing, and that on a weeknight. However, that is no excuse for what went on there. Even the initial impression was not remarkable.

Firstly, the appearance has changed a bit since my fiancee` last dined there. To wit: it more than subtly resembles a Mexican-themed version of the "Athena" Greek and Lebannese restaurant about 300 yards away. Originality, anyone? The music was also constant, pretty damned awful Tejano; which, for those who are not familiar, is literally like polka mixed with bad Cajun accordion and Mexican-style horns. And then, the music was also meandering, like a bad record, and the singing was atrocious.

Secondly, it took a good three minutes for the hostess to come to the front and notice that we were standing there, waiting. She was efficient enough, but apathetic; an apathy that was amply reflected among the rest of the wait staff. In fact, not only did our server not arrive for about three minutes, she also did not even bother to give a customary "good evening," let alone introduce herself. For that matter, she seemed mildly offended when I asked about the latter. She also went twenty minutes at a stretch without so much as seeing if we wanted a refill on drinks, and did not make anything approaching eye contact at any point.

Now, the drinks: I have heard that this place is well-known for its margaritas, and that may be the item upon which it's meager reputation is based. I can tell you for certain, however, that the place is not known for its water. It seemed oddly thick in the mouth, with a dragging, metallic aftertaste. It also left a film on the glass, which seems a bit uncommon for good old H2O. My fiancee` and I both ordered waters {at first}, so it wasn't a question of a dirty glass, either. I'm sorry, if your tap is bad and you cannot afford a filter, it's time to start buying gallons at the supermarket. My fiancee` ended up ordering sweet tea, which seemed from a mix and unexceptional at that, while I stubbornly... sloughed on.

Last, and most certainly least, the FOOD. Let me simply way that we could have driven a bit farther, grabbed some late-night Taco Bell, and gotten the same value. My fiancee` had chicken tacos, with greens and cheese that at least seemed vaguely fresh. However, the chicken, which I had the misfortune to taste, seemed not only bland but canned -- squishy, with no effort made to conceal its definitively packaged nature. And the shell was straight out of a box your could find in any grocery. My enchilada was at least a bit better, though the meat did seem to have that too-well-known Taco Bell consistancy to it; perhaps Grade C meat, to be far. The rice, however, was also bland, with an odd aftertaste {possibly the water}, and its vegetables had tasted a bit too much frost. The refried beans, again, were retolent of can. We did not bother with dessert; because though we longed to wash the taste out, we did not want sopipillas that were equally disappointing.

My fiancee` very aptly theorizes that Aztecas, in its recent expansion, has put more effort into enlarging its menu for increasing customers, than making good food. She said that the food used to be pretty decent once upon a time. I would not know, as I have never been there before.

All-in-all, friends, for a $30 meal for two {that's with nothing but a single tea to accompany it, mind you}, go across the street to Picante. You might spend a tad more, and have to deal with a little karaoke on the weekend, but you'll enjoy yourself a hell of a lot more. Failing that, go to Taco Bell. The price will be a great deal less, and you'll get the same quality of food -- probably with better service all around.

I ordered the Mexican Sampler. The Sampler consisted of your choice of beef or chicken quesadilla (I chose beef), 2 stuffed jalapenos, 2 Sante Fe egg rolls & Fiesta nachos and served with sour cream and guacamole. The Sante Fe egg rolls were not that great. The egg rolls had too much black beans in it.
