The food was good. Waitress was nice. They did mess up our orders a bit. Not the waitress, the back, but they were busy. Just forgot a few extra we added like everyones bacon. It's a little weird that breakfast ends at 11. Then it's plate lunches for 20mins , and then they start lunch orders. Then biscuits are amazing đ đ I do recommend. Taste homemade.

This place was great! We brought my mom there after going to the temple. Delicious food and fast service! Great comfort foods and enough variety for there to be something for everything. They also have delicious Cajun classics! Donât miss this place!

As a former resident of Lafayette who worked in downtown at the now defunct Daily Advertiser, I have a history eating at Dwyers, not to mention it has been there for little over 100 years. When I began eating at Dwyer's, it was just counter service - not the larger dining areas and outdoor seating that exists now. It was pleasure to return and enjoy a #2 breakfast with grits on sleepy Monday morning.
I enjoyed walking through the entire space before finding a seat, admiring the stained glass windows, ceiling fans, red brick walls, wood floors and of course, the wall of history, which took me back to a time before I discovered it.
This morning I chose to dine on patio, where I enjoyed people watching and friendly passersby of regulars as I waited for my breakfast. My server was very efficient and friendly, addressing me with various endearments that were welcome. I ate my breakfast slowly, savoring every bit of my grits, eggs, iced coffee and butter drenched biscuit. it was quite filling, and I was unable to finish it all but it was nice contrast to another breakfast restaurant down the street, serving bite sized plates for more money.
Yes indeed, I do enjoy enjoy tradition and a hearty meal at a landmark of Lafayette. My family has tradition of eating here, and I shared few meals with my brother, who was a regular; he recently died and was the purpose of my visit to Lafayette. I thought of our times there, and thought of how fitting it was to enjoy one more good meal at Dwyer's.
I look forward to returning here when I visit my sister later this year. And recommend it to anyone who wants good meal for fair price.

Fun old style diner, with cafeteria style plate lunches and also a full menu to order from !
Service was quick and attentive. Right in the middle of Downtown Lafayette. I got the fried chicken plate lunch, chicken was hot and fresh and the potato salad was delicious! My friend ordered off the menu.
Iâve heard their breakfast is really good, I want to go back to try that !

Consistently delicious. I order breakfast here about once a week and it's always cooked perfectly as-requested. The plate lunches can be too salty in my opinion but the portions are huge and usually last me at least two meals.
Crystal DeMoura
If you are looking for a true Southern food experience, this is the place. Not only did they have super friendly staff, the food is true Southern, with the plate lunches being the star choice for me. My friends ordered a burger, and they loved it. Try it, you'll walk out with a smile, I promise. đ

Went here for the first time yesterday with my husband, we were absolutely thrilled with the delicious, hot breakfast. Our server, Ms. Beth, was so good to us. She was so good at her job and made sure we had the best experience.
We are definitely coming back!!

A good breakfast stop and a great lunch spot. The crab cake eggs benedict was poached perfectly. The staff are friendly and courteous. Dwyer's is a Lafayette institution located in the downtown area and great place to eat if you are stopping in town.
L Romero
$7 cheeseburger was yuge and delicious! Very good meal! Cute cafe, and seems to have pretty regular diners, which speaks volumes
Frances Rami
The food and service was amazing. I ordered fried catfish with fries. The items on the buffet was very unexpected. It was a taste of home, a deep south Sunday dinner. I really enjoyed my visit. Whenever I'm in Lafayette again, I will definitely eat lunch or dinner there. My compliments to the chef.

Very good! Driving through towards Atlanta from Houston. Stopped for breakfast. I got the number five with fried egg whites, bacon, and sweet potato pancakes with a cup of coffee. All excellent. Staff was friendly. Prices reasonable. Would definitely recommend to anyone else driving through!

Many suggested this Lafayette staple while we were in town on vacation. Classic diner vibes where plenty of regulars know each other. Fast service, fairly priced. Highly recommend the Breakfast Club!
Kurt Coffin
We popped in her for breakfast during our 3-day stay in Lafayette. This was the BEST breakfast we had on the trip, and the staff went out of their way to treat us like family. Service was friendly and impeccable. Total attention to detail, each ingredient in my boudin omelet was terrific (sauteed mushrooms, etc), the biscuit was tender and buttery, and my girlfriend's fish filet was amazing. Wholeheartedly recommend.
Nola Mech
This place was great! I love the service and the food was amazing. Trust me you wonât be disappointed with anything on the menu. This place is a must stop if your passing through Lafayette.
Nelson Pantoja
Excellent customer service and good environment. The employee her name is Alexis Toucheck she was very kind, friendly and helpful. The Omelette was delicious and came out of the kitchen missing the toasts but the waitress quickly resolved (she's a great server). French toast tasted burnt other than that I had a good experience during my first visit.

Great location, right in the hrat of downtown Lafayette. Cozy, and quaint, locally owned and ran. They have great employees and always great food. Has a lil bar in case u need need a drink. They serve from menu or the buffet line. Great prices and over all great place
Ryan Chlebek
What a cool little spot in downtown. We stopped here on our drive from New Orleans to Austin. The food is excellent, and our server was hysterical.
Mindy Coldren
It was delicious!! Our food came out fast and hot. Our waitress was great too. Weâre from oklahoma and this was the first time eating at dwyers and it was my favorite.
Fedro Ponce de LeĂłn
A really nice place to have breakfast while passing by Lafayette. Sandwiches are tasty and quick served. Coffee is delicious... While I do not drink coffee both my wife and father praised it

I had cousins coming through, one from Texas, one from Hammond. I suggested Dwyers, good food and easy access from 1-10. They loved it!! Could not quit talking about how good the food and service was. Our waitress was either Pam or Sam...she was adorable.
Doug Sergent
The service is always great. The food is delicious. The atmosphere is comfortable . The outdoor patio is a great place to enjoy the sunshine.
Randy Holmes
One of the all-time great plate lunch venues. I like to order the eggplant dressing instead of rice to underpin the roast pork. And don't pass up the biscuit.
Murphy Pellegrin
My first time here. Food was delicious and the service couldnât have been better. Ate breakfast this time, hopefully will have plate lunch next time.
Michael Piccione
The best early breakfast spot in downtown Lafayette.
Chris Brouillette
Hearing Mr Mikeâs voice asking âCornbread, White Bread, Wheat Bread?!?!â is as Lafayette as the Ragin Cajuns. I get the pork roast over jambalaya. Sooooo delicious!! Thanks guys!!
Sheri Abbott Leblanc
The food was really good and very plentiful with a fun and friendly staff.
Samantha Butt
It was ok. The waitress was a little scatter brained. The food mediocre. Should have gone to Mel's Diner!
Craig Olivier
Where else can you get cow tongue in a gravy! Great food, people, and atmosphere!
Kevin Quattlebaum
I'm from the Dallas area, but discovered this gem when my niece attended ULL for one semester about five years ago. I travel to Acadiana periodically for church mission work and my art business. The sweet potato pancakes and Steen's pure cane syrup are a must! I'm down for a week to 10 ten days once or twice a year and will eat at Dwyer's at least once or twice each visit!
Tim Terro
The food is great. The service sucks. Here right now. Had to wait forever just to get a cup of coffee. Told the guy to bring more creamer, an hour later and still no creamer.
I am seeing all these 5 star reviews. No idea why, this place sucks. Will not waist my time or my money ever again.
Food brought out and we didnât even have silverware on the table.
Shari Dronet Melancon

Charming atmosphere, delicious breakfast, fabulous service.

A Lafayette tradition downtown. Good, solid place for breakfast. I especially like the biscuits. And a great lunch place, particularly the buffet line where you choose an entree and 2-3 sides. Plenty of food too.
Debra Breaux
Jan.20,2016  Today was the first time had lunch at Dwyer's Cafe. My grandson and myself  each had a lunch and it was so much food. The prices are great. The service was good. Would go there again for SURE!!!!
Yella Boh
I like dwyer's plate lunches the food is very tasty & they give you nice size portion though they're kind of on the expensive side its well worth the visit as well as it is your dollar
Matilda Dreads Moström
This is the best diner in lafayette in my opinion. Good prices and the best sweet potato pancakes that I have ever had. The waiter was really nice too.
Shawn Hicks
The food was cold and lacking in flavor. The atmosphere was nice but you don't eat atmosphere. I will not be going back
Kenny Coons
Breakfast was great and the price is right. It was clean and the staff was friendly. The kids loved it too. Coffee was nice and hot. Pancakes and omelet were great. Would definitely go back.

Hard to beat. Good diner food. Plate lunches are to much for me, unless I can take a nap. Mostly I drop by for breakfast, eggs (any style), grits, bacon, and an excellent biscuit. Calories? Just say, it is the only meal you should eat that day.

A Local Institution for many years... Down Home Cookin'? They got it here!. This place is a local institution and has been for many years. It's *the* place to eat downtown whether it's for breakfast or lunch.<br/><br/>A group of friends and I have been meeting for breakfast here for quite some time. We love the food and the atmosphere. Every week, a lovely young lady name "Daisy" waits on us and ensures that we have a great experience. <br/><br/>After Church on Sunday morning, my wife and I decided to go grab some of Dwyer's famous plate lunches. As it turned out, Daisy was our server. She recommended the smothered chicken, which is what she'd had for lunch recently.<br/><br/>The very nice lady who was working the steam table was just as polite and charming as can be. I asked her for some extra gravy so that my rice-and-gravy was a bit "soupy" as it's easier for me to swallow. She said, "honey, I'm gonna put your food in a styrofoam go-box if it's ok with you because it'll make a mess if I put too much gravy on the plate... and it'd sure be a sin to waste that good gravy on your shirt!"<br/><br/>Man, oh man, I don't know who does the cooking there... but they *can* cook! The chicken feel apart in my plate. The rice-and-gravy is what I wanted. The last time I had stuff this good was probably the last time I ate here. :) It reminded me of the cooking that I got when I'd visit my Grandfather for lunch years ago where his housekeeper always knew how to make it just right no matter what it was she cooked. Home cookin' at its very best!<br/><br/>My wife had a chicken salad sandwich which she said was one of the very best she'd ever eaten.<br/><br/>We also had some fried mushrooms... fresh, not frozen stuff... which were pretty tasty. <br/><br/>In the past few weeks, I've also eaten a pretty durn good cheeseburger at this joint.<br/><br/>At any rate, if you want good "stick-to-your-ribs" down home cookin', give this place a try and you will *not* be disappointed! I'm sorry they're not open for dinner (or maybe it's a good thing as I'd be there all the time). :)

Great "little" downtown restaurtant. Very good plate lunches; good variety. Very generous servings. Will definitely continue to visit!!!
Teddy B.
Cajun Home Cooking. It's a great little plate lunch place during lunch hours. They tend to go heavy on the garlic and the gravy is a little thicker than a normal cajun gravy. Excellent breakfast as well. Update: Best Cabbage Roll ever... so tender and succulent. It was very meaty not filled with rice; tomato sauce just rich with deep flavor; enough cabbage but not too much. Plus 3 sides all for $7.64 yeah it was good!

Don't come to Lafayette without eating here..... Best plate lunches......Ground Zero for what food portions should be at all restaurants....and a generation of friendly owners who know how to serve and please their customers....all Cajun locals come here for lunch....that should tell you enough.
Crystal Penton Bennett
We have come here once before for breakfast and had decent food. But today was a awful experience. My over-medium egg was undercooked, grits are chunky, hash-browns were a big blob of pasty mess, bacon was cold and undercooked. The biscuits are the only good thing about our meal. I should also mention that Dwyers wasn't business and had a lot of staff walking around---but the service was also mediocre. We won't be back.

This review is a bit biased considering I've been an employee here for quite sometime, but as an employee I have a great angle on what goes on here! This family owned business is great if you're looking for a lot of food for a great price. You will get great service, great food, and the portions are unbelievable! The food is made with minimum shortcuts and much effort to make it enjoyable for anyone looking for anything from seafood to burgers and incredible cajun plate lunches! You will not leave hungry from Dwyer's cafe! After 7. Long years here I still enjoy all of the combinations you can find on the plate lunch line!
Louis Cooper
Fried Chicken is dry and over cooked. If you want fried chicken go to Fat Albert's in Lafayette, LA.
Themarblefaun
Old-School Breakfast. The only thing that matters is that this place has the best biscuits bar none.
Brenda Melton
We were pleased to find this local, family-owned restaurant. Had great service and excellent breakfast choices. I enjoyed the blueberry pancakes!
Scott Carriere
Came here for breakfast with my girlfriend. He omelet was good but I don't eat eggs. One of the combos offered eggs and a hamburger patty. When I asked for just the hamburger I was told no. Wasn't paying for a bunch of food I wasn't going to eat. So basically it's pick what we got or leave. I left hungry.

Undeserved loyalty. I had been lucky over the weekend with food, so I was due for a bad meal, and today's breakfast was it.<br/><br/>Until you have experienced the euphoria-inducing breakfasts of Amish country, you will not be able to discern just how bad places like this really are. No more than two medium eggs could have gone into the omelette; it was paper thin. It also had cheese I did not ask for. Veggies inside were mushy and soaked in grease. Hashbrowns were seasoned well, but incredibly soggy. The chefs could not even toast an English muffin right, it was chewy but not at all crispy on the outside.<br/><br/>Service was abysmal, even for the busiest of diners. We were attended for about 45 seconds in total for the almost 75 minutes we were there. The orange juice was pretty darn good though, I guess.<br/><br/>Focus your ire on me, call me arrogant and pretentious (I am used to it by now), but the truth of the matter remains that I could cook a breakfast 10 times better while blindfolded.
Littleshell
Excellent!. Delicious, delicious breakfast. I had french toast, fried eggs, and sausage patties- the french toast was perfect, and the sausage had a great spice. Eggs were done perfectly. <br/>Everyone else enjoyed their breakfast too- I have no idea what they ordered because I was preoccupied with how simple and great mine was. <br/>Waitress was a delight, too- it has a really homey and relaxed feel. I recommend going on a weekday morning to avoid the crowd.
Michael
The brunch for locals. Although the service wasn't speedy (I think we were a one off), it was an incredibly friendly place that served great food.<br/><br/>Very Southern style diner and would absolutely go again if I was ever in the area.
Pele
Awesome. My daughter goes to school here so while visiting I decided to give this a try. I had the best sweet potatoe pancakes in the world. The service was friendly and the whole place had a very warm feel to it, The breakast was very good and the lunch I saw coming out loooked fine, I am looking forward to going back. Families evrywhere, relaxing, smiling and relaxing. If you love life, great food and friendly people this is the place. Jsut a blast. I ate here twice on my visit and the waitress said --glad to see you back.. Just a great experience.
La Foodie
Very good food- authentic- good price- love the lunch special

Good food....bad service. Visiting from Atlanta...there was lots of food and it was good, but the service was one of the worst I've ever experienced. It's like you are a bother to the wait staff. Even the good food was ruined by the terrible attitudes.
Jkp1967
Eh..ok. The biscuits were big and fluffy but the sausage patties were waaaay too greasy for my taste. normally i clean my breakfast plate elsewhere but i couldnt get past the predominantly greasy taste. coffee was very weak...come on...its Louisiana. we're known for strong coffee. And the music we were forced to listen to (new country) was a downer. I would think in the heart of Acadiana we'd be able to hear the cajun music highlighted on KRVS 88.7
Happy Hot Sauce
Terrible Service -won't be back. I have been a long-time patron of Dwyers, with the understanding that lunch (which only relies on wait staff to bring you drinks and a check) is always good and breakfast is always has a horribly long wait. I used to always recommend them for a cheap, good local meal. No more.<br/><br/>On my last visit for breakfast, the hostess seemed peeved that we waited to be seated, as the sign requested. The waitress did not appear for a long time, took other orders before ours, and after more than 45 minutes, was still MIA when everyone around us who arrived after us had food. Come on. Breakfast isn't that complicated and our order was standard! <br/><br/>We left before the food arrived (the first time I had done this), and the hostess said "did your waitress check on your order?" and "Have you been here for breakfast before?" My answers: "I don't know" and "you always make excuses about how long it takes to serve breakfast."<br/><br/>Seriously.... if FOR YEARS you are saying breakfast always takes a long time, you're NOT DOING IT RIGHT.<br/><br/>I'm done with you, Dwyers. There are too many other great restaurants with good service if I want to eat downtown.
Angtle
The food is great but the service is nonexistent
Flipper
Food is great Service is terrible. The plate lunches are always awesome and they serve you way more than you can eat. <br/><br/>When it comes to the waitresses, that is a whole other story. The service is very bad, unless you sit at the table in the middle with someone that seems to be related to some of the waitresses.
Samuel Adams
Get the plate lunch. Especially when they have fried fish and étouffé on the same day - get the fish smothered with it!<br/><br/>The cabbage rolls are some of the best I've ever had, though a bit spicy at times.<br/><br/>Service generally is pathetic. No matter what time of day, though I have received better service at night in the bar than in the dining room overall. It never ceases to amaze me that servers think they will make a living even without doing the basics.<br/><br/>You usually seat yourself, which is fine, but each server has WAY more tables than they can handle. I have NEVER gotten good service here. (and I've been more times than I can count) They take forever to greet you and get a drink order, take forever to bring your drinks, usually don't bother with refills, and if they do - number one pet peeve - NEVER take my glass from me. Use a pitcher or bring me a fresh glass. What the hell am I supposed to do while you take forever bringing me more to drink? Sit and twiddle my thumbs? I can't eat for much longer because I'll need more to wash it down with or kill the pepper. I never understand why servers do this. It is also VERY unsanitary. The only time dirty dishes should enter the kitchen is to go straight to the dish room. They should never come back to you.<br/><br/>I've been a server. It isn't difficult to bring a fresh glass or to anticipate if someone will need a refill. And it isn't rocket science to check on all of your tables every time you hit the floor rather than run back and forth one table at a time.<br/><br/>Also, how about checking up on us after we have had time to take a few bites? Acting like Houdini is not good service.<br/><br/>And speaking of "checking" taking over ten minutes to bring the "check" will usually put a dent in your tip. You should have it ready and printed at all times. Guests shouldn't have to 'wonder' if this one is on the house or you expect them to pay for it.<br/><br/>Stay away if you have a large party (more than 2) they can't seem to cope well.<br/><br/>The poor service is also another major reason to get the plate lunch. You don't have to wait for them to put in your order (I guess POS systems are just too technical) and then wait for the VERY slow kitchen to cook it. You just get up and have them dish it out for you, and the line servers are much more friendly than the wait staff or cashier. (I don't think I've ever gotten a smile or "thank you" from a cashier there)<br/><br/>The bartenders are usually just clueless beer openers, and they generally don't seem interested in serving guests in the bar. I've always felt like I was imposing by sitting in there. I don't understand a bartender who doesn't have a clue what they have in stock other than "Bud Light." And if "I" can see it on the shelf, you shouldn't have to check to see if you carry it. You should already know right where it is.<br/><br/>Anyway, the regular menu food is poor to fair. The plate lunches however, are some of the best in town. For the price, it works, and you won't leave hungry.
Kay T.
You have to try the Boudin Balls and Bistro Sauce! Awesome
Mandy Harrison Patterson
Burgers were just ok. Waitress was very sweet.

Something wrong with the person who doesn't like it.. I have NEVER had a bad experience here. The food has ALWAYS been good, and I like flavor.<br/><br/>The person who doesn't like it has only reviewed Dwyer's...I have a feeling they just have some personal agenda, because I can't believe the food has ever been bad.<br/><br/>GO THERE!
Sugarbear77
Worst Plate Lunch Ever. I decided to get a plate lunch at Dwyer's today. They have pretty good breakfast meals so i figured the lunch would be good also. WRONG!! I ordered pork roast with rice and gravy, a side of eggplant casserole and mashed potatoes. It was horrible. The rice and gravy and roast was so bland. No seasoning, no taste. I don't know what was up with the eggplant. It tasted like wet bread and the mashed potatoes tasted like they were from a box. No amount of seasoning i tried could help it. I ended up throwing the whole lunch away. What a waste of money. I mean don't they taste the food before selling it. I sure wont be going there for lunch anymore.

Breakfast!. Great breakfast, down home service and just plain yummy. Lunch is great when you want to NOT eat healthy and want some down home comfort food

Quite possibly the best breakfast I have ever had. The sweet potato pancacks are heavenly.

All Good. You will not leave hungry.

Why not more places like Dwyers?!? Food is a steal, huge proportions, and the service is always worth rewarding. Two thumbs up Dweyer's!
Bradimus Prime
Best Plate Lunch. This place has an awesome breakfast (try the hashbrowns, you will not be disappointed) and an even better lunch. If you go home hungry after leaving this place you may want to see a doctor for the tapeworm you have.

Great Place To Grab Breakfast or Lunch Downtown.... If you like diner/cafe food and happen to be downtown drop in and give Dwyer's a try... Breakfast is pretty good and very affordable....
