Very good poke. I got the Shack Special and the Pele's Kiss, and both were good but the Shack Special was my favourite. The touch of sweetness works so well with the tender raw ahi. The only reason that Da Poke Shack doesn't get a 5/5 is because of the high price for the portion, and because the rice was gummy and overcooked.
Shack Special: 9/10
Pele's Kiss: 8/10
Crab and Broccoli Salad: 7.5/10
We queued 45 mins - truly the island lifestyle here with just one person serving and one person on the register. Line was out the door but worth the wait. Prices are kind of high ($14 for a bowl, $27 for a plate) but it’s fresh food and fresh seafood. Just the right sizes for one. You can also get poke by the pound. Got two poke bowls and it was fantastic as a late lunch.
The hubby became a fan for poke after eating here. He got ahi, dynamite which was made of avocado and California roll poke. We loved the rice and the seasoning on top. Cute little place to have poke!
Amazing poke variety. The lineup was out the door but moved fast. Ordered 2 plates, came with 4 types of poke, 2 salads and 2 scoops of rice. Tried Dynamite, Shack, Shoyu, Garlic sesame pokes, edame & California roll salads. The flavors were fresh and gorgeous. The perfect food to take to the beach!
Delicious, and fresh, Da Poke Shack provides exactly what you want from a Poke place.
The Poke is delicious, and the sides are equally good. The staff are very friendly as well
If you love Poke, you need to stop here.
Fantastic stuff. Poke to perfection. Many other traditional items as well.
Great fresh poke.. Bit of a wait, but wasn't too long. Got a plate of poke. Sheer brilliance.
Do da hoke poke!. Went to da poke shack this weekend and it was so so so ONO! My nephew from Oahu was impressed and wants to go back! When you're happy...you do da hoke poke dance...hahah! Da Poke Shack is a place you dont wanna miss when you visit or if you leave here and never been...GOOOO! It's da best!!!
Yellow tail. I bought some yellow tail from Da Poke and it was a great price for amazing sushi grade yellow tail.
LIVE-LOVE-EAT POKE! I'm dreaming of this place and you will be kicking yourself if you don't stop in and try it! Fresh fresh fresh! I'm so disappointed we couldn't stay longer to eat more! Easily the best poke I've ever eaten. Period!
Being from middle Tennessee, no, never tried poke before. Didn't even know what it was. Landlocked places don't have good raw fish. Heard it was good, not against raw quality fish, so we gave it a try.
The guy behind the counter was really nice and friendly especially since I was just asking questions and ordering on looks... Remember, never tried poke before. I asked if I could have a beer with my food outside, which was answered in the affirmative - bonus! The rest of my review is:
OMG, So Good!!! OMG, So Good!!! OMG, So Good!!! OMG, So Good!!! OMG, So Good!!! OMG, So Good!!! OMG, So Good!!!
Seriously. We almost missed our flight by trying to stop in for one last meal. Really. We were the last people on the plane before they shut the cabin door.
OMG, So Good!!! OMG, So Good!!! OMG, So Good!!! OMG, So Good!!! OMG, So Good!!! :)
Best Poke On The Island. Da Poke Shack is a must-stop if you are on the West side of the Big Island. Fresh poke, great sides and friendly staff. During our last visit the chef (owner?) sat and chatted with us, providing some recommendations about things to do and see. It was appreciated and we will be back!
If you have never tried Poke !. We thought we would try this place for Poke , in fact we did not even know how to pronounce the word. didn't know what to order.
the staff helped me choose my take out order i took it home and it was so good.So good i went back 2 days later to try it again.
i am back in Edmonton now googling poke to see where i can get it here and i can't.
looks like a trip back to kona is on order.
I'm hooked.
Most amazing poke I have ever had!!! I have had a lot of fish, raw and cooked, and you could tell The fish here was super fresh. I wish we had more time so I could go back and eat more!!! A must eat at place when in Kailua-Kona!!
A must each time I'm in Kona. This place is awesome. I go to Kona twice a year and I think Da Poke Shack is the reason I come so often. I literally eat at least one meal a day at da Shack on each visit.
Try em all, the staff loves to give you samples, each is delicious. Located right on Alii Drive, just south a few miles from downtown.
Going back in November and da Shack will be my first stop, even before I check into the hotel.
This was one of our favorite places while we were in Kona. The highlight for us were the great staff who directed us to beautiful local places to sit and enjoy their fabulous creations.
My favorite place to go. When visiting the big island. It is small and not a hang out place to eat BUT the poke was SO good!
Da poke shack is a must when in the Kona area. The employees are super friendly and let you sample everything if its your first time there. The poke is amazing and affordable at $10.50 with rice and a side. You can even mix and get two kinds of poke! I recommend the avocado and the spicy poke.
This was hands down THE BEST poke we had in all of Hawaii! The sides were awesome too. I love that they have a choice of white rice, brown rice or quinoa. This was our fave meal in all of the islands.
Bare Bones Greatness. Read about this place and was determined to go there. I was glad I stopped by and got a plate to go. It is a tiny operation run by a crew of two moving frantically to get the food out. I was impressed with the "sides" you can choose from to go along with your meal. Some of those sides could have been the main course! Not fancy but very good.
We went deep sea fishing and the captain of the boat said DA POKE SHACK is a must do. Hard to find at night, but they close at 6:00 PM anyway. They DO run out of fish so go early. No tables inside, it's only to go. $10.50 a bowl, include poke, rice (brown or white) and a side salad. I had spicy crab, amazing. Best poke I've ever had.
Cheap and good place in Kailua-Kona. Perfect after a beach, snorkel or surf day. Da poke bowl is a perfect portion. Try the sweet one, delicious!
What a find!!. Had read about this place and stumbled upon it on our first day on the Big Island. It is tucked away in a resort parking lot and you need to keep your eyes peeled to see it. We had three different kinds of poke with rice and sides of seaweed, crab salad, and edamame. The fish was seasoned perfectly and at about ten bucks a meal, the price was right. We sat at a picnic bench right on the water. It was the perfect start to our vacation. Make a point to eat here. I am sure we will be back a coil,e of times before we leave. Aloha!

Da poke shck is awesome. Ate their twice while in Hawaii. Get there early or you might be out of luck, because they were running out of fish both times we went. Definitely a must eat spot in Kona.
An absolute MUST on the Big Island! Had it not been for an island local, we would have never found this little gem. Tucked in a small lot off highway 11, this place is all about fresh and perfectly seasoned ahi tuna and all the sides offered, only complement the bento. I ordered the poke that was tandem with the avocado and aioli mix. Was able to get brown rice topped with furakake (felt like home) and seaweed wakame salad. On my first bite I thought I died and gone to heaven. The avocado and aioli was a creamy companion to the fresh ahi. The wakame salad was spot on...no untraditional surprises. Going back for MORE before we leave this island.
Stopped in yesterday during last hour of business. Staff was very helpful and the lau lau was GREAT! Real hidden gem.
Every item is fantastic. Great prices, great service, friendly staff. Can't wait to return.
It rocks my world!!! everything is so good and fresh, and price is right. Friendly staff, loved everything! Mahalo!!!
Not only was the food amazing, but they went out of their way to accommodate my younger sister's multiple allergies while preparing her custom order!
Do drop in. Great place to eat service with a smile and really tasty food must do when on the big island.
Super Fresh!. We stumbled across this place on a vacation on the Big Island. They were closing up shop for the evening but gave us a free sample and showed us the three yellowfin tuna sitting in a cooler that would be the next day's lunch.
We came back the next afternoon for the best food we've had in years. Six or seven different varieties of Poke, a choice of sides (try the seaweed salad) and brown rice.
This place is amazing!
Awsome. Aloha My husband I went here after talking to the entertainment coordinator at our vacation rental. We loved the atmosphere the guys behind the the counter were great and we were able to test the Poke before buying so we would know which one we would like. Well needless to say it was hard decision they were all good. This place is Da bomb. When we go to Kailua Kona again this will be the place we will go to. Mahalo
Hidden Gem. Love Da Poke Shack, really fresh and tender fish, much better than the grocery store poke. My favourite is the dynamite with creamy avocado dressing, but, we had a great smoked marlin and butter garlic crab, if raw fish is not your taste. Great staff, offering lots of free samples, so you'll know what you like before you buy. But, don't be fooled, quality doesn't have to be expensive, the Poke here is cheaper than Costco's and much better. Just watch for the sign on Ali'i Drive, easy to miss because it's in a condo building.
Best Food on the Big Island!. Was driving by on the way to our hotel, and knew this was a must-have. Turned out to be the only place we liked enough to go back to. Poke bowl comes with 1/3 lb of super-fresh poke (choose one of 8 varieties!) , a scoop of rice, and your choice of a yummy side. Try the garlic edamame or the spicy crab salad. Portions are great for a one person lunch or a snack for two, and a great value at under $10 per person. Poke also available by the pound.
DA POKE SHACK. This place is hands down the best poke and sushi on the entire Big Island! The guys are super cool, the prices are more than fair and the variety of poke is great. The poke itself is nothing less than phenomenal!!
As you can see the poke plate is substantial and is quite filling. This one has a scoop if Dynamite Poke and Pele’s Kiss Poke, with crab salad and Ho’io which is a fern shoot salad. If you haven’t ever tried fern, it is a mild, tender green that tastes like a hybrid of Chinese broccoli and asparagus. But with this, your pee won’t produce any noxious vapors is it does with asparagus.DSC_0135
Hubby got the Lau Lau which was absolutely amazing – something I have to learn how to make!
Poke (pronounced: Poh-Keh) is a Hawaiian cuisine. I had my first poke at Da Poke Shack in Kailua, Kona. This is a very small shop on Alii Dr, if you drive too fast, you
Da Poke Shack's poke is exceptionally fresh and there are different preparations to choose from. Daily specials are popular but here's why we loved their poke...
Da Poke Shack serves deliciously fresh poke! The wait is worth every bite and the employees are fast and kind. Would definitely recommend if you’re in the area! The poke has multiple options and they also serve pork, both are great! I suggest going on the earlier side to avoid limited options due to some selling out! Very popular and only good things to share.
As someone with a high standard for seafood/Asian food I loved this! All their options were delicious and super tasty. Although it wasn’t a cheap meal ($18 for a bowl) the portion was decent and there was a good variety. I had the garlic and wasabi, special and seaweed and would recommend. Overall 100% worth the visit, I would recommend!
Got a poke plate as it was slightly cheaper than two poke bowls. Delicious but a bit pricey. We went at the end of the day, they only open Mon -Fri from 11-4 I think. So we got there before it closed and there were only 4 varieties to choose from. A bit expensive but good! Not really space to eat there, more a take out place.
Unfortunately we arrived a bit later in day (1 PM) and most of option was sold out. But even what we was able to get was really good! Definitely recommend go there earlier l, hopefully I will have chance stop by earlier to see full load and try it.
Update: We went back after 3 days at 11 am and there was a plenty of options and absolutely delicious! So, highly recommended stop there earlier to pick one of your best poke on the island.
Food was limited due to the high volume of people. There was a little bit of a wait. Very fresh fish. The high turnover helps with that. Due to lots of customers they ran out of some options fairly quickly for the lunch time hour. Very limited seating was a few benches directly outside. The poke was very well seasoned and flavored. Overall decent experience. Limited parking all around so plan accordingly for that. The food however was good and overall with the limited inconvenience of parking, crowd, wait, limited seating, and quick selling out of items.
Opens at 10am, arrive early to avoid a line (like most places here). We got the 4 poke sampler plate with 2 sides. Poke was delicious and fresh. No frozen poke! Small amount of parking. Outdoor seating only (2 large picnic tables). Variety of drinks in cans and bottles.
Delicious poke!!! We stopped here for lunch and we are so glad we did! I got the Wet Hawaiian and Pele’s Kiss both were amazing! You can definitely tell how fresh everything is. The service was quick but friendly, they are used to people not knowing what to order but did a great job helping us interpret the menu and pick things we would like. The tables outside were full but we walked a little ways down and ate looking out at the ocean which made the meal even better! We will definitely eat here again!
Place had very fresh and tasty poke. Seaweed salad was tasty also. Fifteen minute parking was available. Seating on picnic tables surrounded by cute but hungry birds was available also.
Best poke in Kona. This was our first stop for poke on the big island and it was the best we had. Fresh and delicious and the variety of options was great. You won’t make a mistake coming here….so worth it.
Benches are outside with umbrellas. Parking is small but spaces open up quickly.
Very delicious poke. You do have to get a little bit lucky with what they have in stock but it is worth the wait. The fish tasted very fresh and did not disappoint, as always. Highly recommend.
