Review Little Tokyo - Juneau

Lots of firsts for this sushi fan at comfortable Little Tokyo in downtown Juneau: Sushi chef does his own ikura (cured salmon eggs) from salmon he caught, himself. California roll (handroll, actually) with REAL crab. Super fresh Japanese cuisine served with friendly attention. Will come back to try cooked items (ramen, etc.) and look forward to repeats of the above.

Quite nice of a place... Decors is interesting... Food is a prepared... High variety of choices... Has more than just sushi for those who want to hang out with picky eaters... But maybe I've been living under a rock for seven years or it's cause everything in Alaska is expensive... If you just want to stuff yourself and your budget is around $30 then their all you can eat is great... Speaking of all you can eat you won't be getting the normal menu... All the rolls are California roll based with different toppings... Like dragon roll is California with avocado and eels on top... Personal favorite is (I think) crab volcano which is crab on top of California (I think)... Do not shy away from trying the other stuff gyōza is great... Their galbi bento is great but Kinda small if all you want is to eat beef ribs but hey it's a Korean dish soooo can't compare it to a plate of 'merican ribs... The owner told me he has no time limit on how long you stay for all you can eat but he will limit you to three orders total... Not like three dishes but like ordering three times with them.. You might think then you can just order massive amounts but if you don't finish then you'll have to pay for the waste... They don't have enough waiters so ordering might be difficult at times... Although they aren't that busy (usually go around 12—13 on sat/sun)... Nonetheless it's good place to eat

Weekday lunch specials 1100 AM - 3 PM. One of their weekday lunch specials includes pork katsu, (breaded deep fried pork cutlet) but was informed they were out. The waiter later informed me that they do have it so I ordered that. I asked that they pulled it earlier than normal as I wanted it to be juicy, succulent, not dry. It came dry, overcooked. Recommend their bento boxes which are basically all the same except one entree item. You have a beautiful presentation, small bits of a variety of food, at a reasonable cost.

The steamed Potstickers were pretty tasty and so was the basic california roll that I ordered. And it only took about 10 minutes.

Little Tokyo always has good food, plus the tea and soup is always hot. 🍵 🍣 🥢

I am reluctant to leave a poor review for a restaurant during COVID-19, as I know everyone is working diligently to pivot and adjust. However, I have never experienced such poor customer service. We walked into an empty restaurant and were almost refused service because we had not made a reservation per ‘state mandate.’ However, the owner clearly did not care about state mandates since he did not wear a mask the entire duration of our stay. When we asked the owner why he was not wearing a mask, he very rudely said it was his restaurant and his choice to follow what state mandates he wanted. I never experienced such poor customer service, especially from an owner of a small & local restaurant. We took our business across the street to El Sombrero and received a good meal, along with warm and charismatic service.

Juneau has some fantastic international food options. This isn't one of them. While the food was mostly authentic, and if decent portions, it was average at best in quality and service. I got the distinct feeling that I was a tourist, and never likely to return so why bother trying to make my stay good? The staff all but ignored us other than to take (eventually) out order, and then deliver it. No separation of courses, no starters before mains. Everything just kind of showed up together. Bottom line, unless you simply must have sushi, try another country's offerings.

Went in sat down, 6 different parties sat down after me. 2 of them had their food before I had a menu. The other 4 had their food before my order was taken. Ordered food, friends food came, 2 others had their orders... still nothing. They dont advertise no all you can eat on Sunday. Then they don't advertise all you can eat stops at 7. Bad service for mediocre Sushi. they USED to be good service and quality. Not sure what has happened.
