Our dinner at Hege’s was definitely worth reviewing. All of the food was so well balanced and flavorful. We had the French onion soup which was a bit heavier than usual but very flavorful. We also had the beef stroganoff special and the seafood pan roast. Both were 10/10. Drinks were a little too strong and Smokey tasting for my liking but I was happy the waitress noticed and quickly suggested something else I would prefer. The espresso martini made up for the other drinks. Michaela was a great waitress and took the time to advise us about the area since it was our first visit. Great service. Interior could use a remodel sooner than later and the A/C could most definitely be cooler but besides that it was a great experience and we would go back.
Stopped here quite by accident as I’m only here for two days. I love French food and Hege’s did not disappoint! Started with the house pate and it was divine! Rich and flavorful. As I am solo, looking forward to the rest for brunch tomorrow.
Had the crab cake appetizer as well and wow! All crab, succulent, juicy and a wonderful sauce.
Felt very warm and welcoming, not at all uncomfortable being solo. Even treated myself to a glass of champagne.
Highly recommend. Do stop here when you’re nearby and if not, make the trip out to this charming village.
Food, service, ambiance; the perfect place to end your day. A fabulous blend of French techniques and continental cuisine. You'll want to try one of everything. Excellent wine list.
Hege’s was the perfect spot for me and my husband to share our first dinner as a married couple! We had Michaela as our server. She was so attentive and offered great suggestions for each course and even poured us some celebratory champagne! We would highly recommend Hege’s for any occasion but especially for couples who come to Kiawah for their honeymoon!
I had a phenomenal dining experience at Hege's! Located in Freshfields Village, this restaurant offers French cuisine with southern influences. The Halibut dish is one of the best dishes I've eaten in the Charleston area! The fish was prepared flawlessly and the rice complimented the fish perfectly. Our waiter was very friendly and happy to give reccomendations. Our table also enjoyed the fried green tomatoes with salsa verde, the calamari, and the mahi entree. Do not leave without a slice of the peanut butter pie for dessert!
First the bad news. We had a bad reaction to the snurl of many of the other diners. Definitely an us and them, either admire or look down your nose situation. One review cited velvet rope syndrome, perfect description. The wait staff seemed encouraged to sell as much as service, but were mostly efficient. We had appetizer, no drinks and two dinners for $170, so they’re living up to high end.
The good news is that the food was excellent quality and perfectly prepared, it’s obvious they have a good kitchen. Fried green tomatoes, filet and halibut with accompanying sides were just superb.
If they can balance some of the pretentiousness with a big dose of humility toward the people who support them, they would really have something going.
We greatly enjoyed our wedding party in Hege's beautiful private room. The food and service were first rate and we all had fun
In my opinion, Hege's is one of the top 25 restaurants on the entire East Coast. The chef mixes classic Americana with a southern, coastal, and local flare. The restaurant and food are upscale, but has a wonderfully casual feel. The staff are pleasant, professional, down to earth, accommodating and very attentive. The prices are reasonable and are comparable to restaurants of its caliber in Charleston. This was my 6th visit to Hege's; every dish has been wonderful and it is always apparent that it was prepared by someone with an excellent kitchen skill set and classical culinary training.
Our resort concierge highly recommended this restaurant and said reservations were not necessary. We found Hege and spent time at the local shops until they opened (almost 3 hours). We were excited when they opened and were greeted with “you don’t have reservations” and it was pretty empty. They allowed us to order and sit at a high top table. We got sea bass and crab cakes. Sea bass was amazing while the crab cakes were okay. They had several open tables the entire time we were there. Wish they had acted a little more glad we were there. Our meal was well worth the $$$ ticket. Yes, we would go back if we visit this coastal area again.
Hege's restaurant will provide you with first class food and service. From the initial greeting at the front door- which was exceptional- to assistance in ordering and pairing your foods the service was top notch. All our courses were first class, Escargot, French Salad. Muscles, Bread baked in house were all top notch. The main courses were truly spectacular and well seasoned. My Ribeye was succulent and the sides were enormous. Order your steak about 1/2 grade higher than normal though. My wife had the seafood extravaganza and it was spot on. Five star all the way and the portions were sizeable. Desert was creme Brule and just perfect. We loved our experience and will definitely be back. Overall a solid A.
