Momma's Pizza And More

This is by far the most authentic Chicago style deep dish pizza I have ever had outside of the city! The restaurant is small and divey but oftentimes pretty busy because this place has a huge cult following. The Chicago pizza takes 30 minutes to cook but it’s well worth the wait! The beer selection is limited, but they have some of the basic domestic beers. Looks out for “momma” a very small, older lady who walks around checking on her customers and her pizzas.

Looks can be deceiving. When we walked into the place I actually asked the staff if they were closed for renovations. It just looked like they were ready to either start swinging the sledgehammer or strip the walls down and start over again. They were not, just a bit on the DIY side when it comes to decor. Our server (John) was friendly and quick with both beverages and recommendations. We were the only two in the place but still, it was nice that he was attentive. He suggested the Cheesy Bread. It came out quick and hot (Not microwaved) with perfectly melted butter and cheese with the right amount of garlic. Great start! Although they are not on the menu, Momma's does have calzones (two types: New York or Chicago) with 4 toppings standard. I ordered Mushrooms, Onions, Tomatoes and more mushrooms. Again, it came out quickly and HOT. The crust was a perfect golden brown, the steam rose when you cut into it and the cheese just flowed out, to cool and solidify in perfect strands. Yes, this New York Guy LOVED his calzone from a stripmall pizza place outside of Lousiville. It was perfect...right amount of cheese, filled evenly with fresh toppings. We both ordered calzones and tore them both up...no sir, no take home boxes needed here. Next time you are in the Clarksville/Jeffersonville area and in need of lunch and want a good pizzeria then look no further. Get past the 'under construction' vibe of the interior and focus on an incredible meal and a great price! Google has it closed till 3pm but we were there at noon and several people got take out and one couple walked in as we left...hours on the door says 11am.
