Review University Diner - Jacksonville

The service was awesome and the food was solid. Had the meat lovers breakfast burrito with hash browns. The burrito was solid and the hash browns perfectly crispy. More than satisfied with the portions. Will be back to this diner for sure.

This was our first visit and Alisa was amazing!! The food came out fast and perfect. Highly recommend that you check them out!!

5 stars is not enough to convey the how great the service was. I went a couple weeks back to meet up with an old friend. My food was great, price was reasonable, my coffee never went past half way and the server was absoutely wonderful.

Went in for a family breakfast and was very happy with everything. Our server Jeff was funny and attentive. Food quality and quantity was worth the price and I loved the old black n white photos on the wall overall experience was excellent .

Is this mind-blowing & innovative? No. But it’s great for what it is; an old-school diner with super interesting people , both working there and attending as customers. Listening to random dialects and stories from nearby tables made me think I was in the middle of a movie scene. The prices are cheap and the food is solid (spicy corn nuggets not pictured but worth mentioning). I’ll be back

Had lunch here with coworkers. The food was delicious. I ordered country fried steak with mashed potatoes and pepper gravy and a side of fried okra. I would definitely be a regular if I worked or lived in the area. Excellent service.

This is your typical neighborhood diner. Where locals go to get good homemade cooking. Friendly service. I highly recommend their Diner Special Breakfast.

The food here is good and usually fast service. I would recommend for getting breakfast. I usually order the hangover omelet with chicken and hashbrowns. I was shocked when I ordered recently and they increased the price to add chicken from $2 to now $4.

Normally great service and food butt something have changed the last two visits the staff appeared to have a total different attitude like I was the only person at the counter over ten minutes to get coffee

The food is very consistent, the server help is stellar. For some reason they keep losing the rewards points so that is not a very dependable system at all. Otherwise we go there once a week, they know our order when we come in.

I was looking for a place to eat with my visiting parents that was close to home, and on the way to Avondale. I decided to try University Diner, a place I haven't been to in years. We arrived around 12:30, hopefully after the lunch crowd. I was able to park close to the entrance, which was encouraging. We entered the restaurant and were told to pick a table. We chose a booth near the entrance - the table was a bit rocky, but the booth seats were comfortable. After about 5 minutes, a waitress arrived to take our drink order and pass out menus. All of us requested water, then browsed the menu. We waited maybe six minutes for our water, and watched the wait staff handle multiple take out orders to customers who ended up eating their take out in the restaurant at the booths lining the entrance. Finally the waitress brought our waters, and took our orders. We had very simple orders, and honestly our food isn't a fair test of the food quality here - my father ordered a ham and swiss sandwich and a cup of soup. We asked about the available soup, and the choices were gumbo, tomato bisque and ham and potato. My father dislikes seasoning, so i said bisque. Pat and I got the same thing - the chicken cranberry pecan salad. Not a fan of blue cheese or cucumbers, i asked for that to be admitted. The salad dressing was on the side, and it was delivered long in advance of the salad. Once the order was submitted it took a long time to get service or notice from the wait staff. The waitress popped back over to say they were out of bisque, so I recommended the potato bacon soup over the gumbo (again, father doesn't eat spice, so gumbo is out). Our items, which I felt were fairly simple, arrived about 1:15. The salads were huge, with a large portion of iceburg lettuce, in the middle sprinkled with cranberries, pecans, and diced chicken breasts. Olives, peppers and tomatoes were on the side of the plate. Pita bread was also served with the salad. Pat thought the tomatoes tasted off, so she didn't eat them, just picked out the chicken,nuts and cranberries. I enjoyed the salad with the fat free raspberry vinaigrette, and ate all of it. My father enjoyed his sandwich and soup. Since it felt like we waited a long time for service and food, Pat and I noticed the place could use a little cleaning on the ceiling. The vents had buildup of presumably black mold, and many of the ceiling tiles were damaged, warped, and needed replaced. I will say the restroom was clean, though. Overall lunch was ok. I felt like service was poor considering the restaurant wasn't packed, and the food was ok. I would like to come back and try a real meal, the true test. I would give them another chance, but the restaurant needs to seriously look at its interior and clean up the ceiling vents and tiles - it can't be good for people with allergies and it is not a good impression for new customers. I truly want to support local restaurants, so I will give them another chance to wow me.

I had a bread tag in my turkey club and my daughter had a piece of hair on her bacon that was not ours. This was my first time going there and I will not go back. The French dip my mom had was dry. My aunts breakfast platter was good. My nephew burger was good. My nieces French toast was good also. Not all bad but I could have swallowed the bread tag.

Really like Tuesday as it is burger day. So big I couldn't get my mouth around it. Came with a mountain of fries and free drink for 8.98.

This is one of these Jacksonville institutions where if you go there often enough you're bound to run into someone you know. It's a favorite of churchgoers, so if you're blowing off church that day you might want to be careful. The food is quite good most of the time; I have never had a bad meal there. The service is good there, too, which made my breakfast there yesterday, where I had to ask for utensils and then my husband and I both had to ask for coffee spoons, a distinct anomaly. My son, who's in food service himself, would probably been able to tell me exactly where the problem arose from if he'd been with us. I've been coming to this place upwards of 20 year and will probably continue to as long as I'm in Jacksonville.

Sitting here an hour....no food. How hard is it to cook eggs? This is by far the worst service anywhere in Jacksonville.

We went in we're told to pick a table so we did and the girl behind the counter was too busy playing with her phone to coming Bring menus or and or a drink order sat for about 5 minutes before she realized that we were there just as we were about to get up and leave they finally came so we stayed got our drinks placed our orders the food was okay but nothing to write home about definitely not home cooking taste like it came right out of the freezer I don't know how this place can stay in business the way it treats customers and poor food quality as well as poor service I will never spend another dollar in your restaurants I see that you are trying to open up other restaurants throughout Jacksonville you should really focus on one and get it right first please contact me if you feel this is too harsh we've had several bad experiences here and will never go back and I advise anybody and everybody I know to not bother with this place it sucks and Nikki the so-called manager is an absolute bitch if you complain about anything nothing gets done about it please by all means spend your money elsewhere if I own this place I would fire all of the wait staff except for the one short girl she's very nice and was apologetic to all of the situations I experienced today
