Great food with a “made by Dad” touch to it. Don’t get offended by the staff. If they pick on you it means they like you. It’s all in good fun. The atmosphere is nostalgia and some sarcasm. It’s a fun experience. I can’t wait to come back and try the burger. Looks exactly like what my dad uses to make for me. Don’t believe the 1 star reviews from people that have never been here or have zero sense of humor.

Huge shout-out and thank you to the Colonel from Dano's Diner for going way above and beyond last week! I've been wanting to try something from their burger lunch menu after our first visit there for breakfast a few weeks back. I ordered through GrubHub and waited the 30-45 minutes anticipated delivery time. After 45 minutes, I got a call from GrubHub support that my order was cancelled and refunded because someone stole my order. Although disappointed, I went on with my day and would try again another time. A few minutes later, I got a call from Dano's. It was the Colonel calling to apologize for the situation, remade my burger and delivered it to my house himself! Thank you again for great customer service and taking care of your customers! By the way, the Pete Rose Burger was amazing.

My families in town so we wanted the closest breakfast place in town and we loved it! As soon as we came in there was great oldies music and we were warmly greeted and the atmosphere was great! It's a very family friendly diner and great prices. We will definitely be coming back!

Danos is your all American diner with delicious burgers and great vibes. If you're in the mayport area I would highly recommend this place for breakfast or lunch!

Sarah our server was amazing, fast, and attentive. The food was hot and better than waffle house. Prices are more than fair and the atmosphere had an ol time feel, like a diner should have.

We loved it. Went there with my wife today for the first time. The only negative thing was the waitress she forgot what I ordered and didn't come back to the table once after she brought the food. That was no big deal though because Dano took good care of us and couldn't have asked for any better service. The food was awesome and we will definitely be back. Recommend it to all!

Loved the diner set up, the owner was so awesome and fun to listen to and talk with! He was cracking jokes, had us all laughing 🤣 a great and fun atmosphere with awesome delicious food!! Huge portions too!! All in all we had a great experience and plan to make this spot a favorite to go to!!

We had breakfast here yesterday, ate at the bar & I have to say the food was outstanding! Nice vibe to it, very classic! I didn’t catch our servers name, but she was phenomenal!

Had an excellent after church service dining experience at Dano's Diner this past Sunday! The "phat flap jacks" (pancakes) are off the chart delicious! I'm going back to have a double stack of those with blue berries! The 5 egg bacon/cheddar omelet was amazing. It was so large that I had the rest of it for breakfast this morning! Grits were great, of course! Coffee wasn't weak! My wife says the biscuits and sausage gravy were the best she's had in years. (And we're both senior citizens!) Prices are affordable and on par with most breakfast/lunch restaurants. The witty sayings on the menu and the light and friendly atmosphere can't be beat! We are blessed! Thanks, Dano's!

Went there for the first time this morning. Read so many great reviews I had to try Dano’s. The biscuit with sausage gravy was delicious. I will be going for more when I move to Jacksonville. Friendly staff and cozy atmosphere.

I don't mix politics and food so I was hesitant to leave a review, but regardless the food was indeed enjoyable and the jokes were a plenty. If you're a softy you should dine elsewhere .

I suggest if youd like people to come into your restaurant you shouldn't bombard them with questions and patronizing comments. I was outside perusing the menu with my partner while I was finishing up a phone call and the owner and a waitress rudely knocked on the window and kept on asking us pushy questions getting very close while not following social distancing guidelines. After I asked him to give us a moment to figure out what we wanted (he was ready to take our order before we had even looked at the menu) he made a patronizing comment towards myself and it turned me off from the whole experience. Let your people come to you. He completely ran us off. We won't be coming back.

There food is awesome. Just make sure there going to be open and that it's the colonel cooking your food. All in all its my go to greasy spoon breakfast joint.<br/>

This place is not a home run by far this place is one of the dirtyest places i have been in. The service was terible.and as one other peson had said the older lady server was whering dirty clothes and terrible hygiene she was not lying. I had got a glass of oj and had finished it before my plate came and tryed to get her attention to get some more after 10 min i had to take the glass to her to get it filled. When she went to fill it there was only enough to fill it halfway. She grabed another gallon out and it was frozen solid and as i turned around she was sticking her finger it the jug she looked at me and said oh it is frozen and she did not have anymore and besides that why are u freezing oj for anyway and how old was it come on peaple . My brother was not asked one time in the 30 we were there for a refreshing on his coffie he said it tasted like coffie from the day before anyway and then took a drink of his water and it tasted like bleach . And that was the only thing he wanted was a cup of coffie any way what a disapointment.my wife ordered eggs hashbrowns and bacon and toast hashbrowns were not done weak as one other person had mencened the toast was not butterd all the way i dont even want to tell you about mine i can tell you i did not even eat half of it . Even as mad as i was about the food and sevice i went to pay the bill and get this she said $28.00 realy i have to pay that for what i got with was a toatly shity experyanc but as i was waiting for my change i looked around and you could se where they keep the glases and such on the floor was an old paint roller try with what looked like it was just dryed up paint and swept all around it was a big dirt and trash pile the walls had crap all over them it looked like food that had been trown on it.i looked at the coners of the floor and there was dirt in every corner i guess no one knows how to use a broom or mop. Oh and the smell of the place to will bring it all together. Everything i have said here is the truth if you dont beleave what i have said go try it for youre self.butt mabie by the time you get there it will be shut down or cleaned and ran properly because when im done here i am calling anyone i can here in Jacksonville to se that this establishment makes a change or go out of business. And to the owner you should be ashamed of yourself for running youre restaurant like you are so get ready for an inspection.

I saw this spot a few weeks ago when I was on a Pho quest.  Situated in the same strip mall, as the restaurant where we ate, I remembered a friend telling me this place was like the old-time diner with a funky vibe thanks to the Colonel.  Lots of “stuff” on the walls, mismatched everything, Formica table tops, those wonderful chrome stools and checkered floor, and a mix of clients.  How right he was.  I felt transported back to my childhood.

Tucked away in an a strip-mall in Mayport, this place is awesome! Their food is fresh and milkshakes are the best. They've got a club sandwich that my wife said was perfect. Burgers are great too since this is the original Col. Mustard. Great place to get some food to take to the beach.

Very disappointed. Waited over an hour for a cab,then we get there. And they are closed at 2pm!!! I even called ahead of time!!

A Stand Up Triple. I am so glad we finally stopped in for lunch on Saturday. Our server was very friendly and she always kept our glasses full which I think is essential for a good dining experience. Our food was delivered promptly and it was hot and fresh. I ("princess") had the cheesesteak special which included fries and a drink. My sandwich was a good size and filled with lots of meat and melted cheese. My husband had a cheeseburger with American, Cheddar and Swiss on a soft Kaiser roll and thought it was one of the best burgers he has eaten lately--he is somewhat of a self appointed burger connoisseur. Our fries were pretty good, but I would have liked for the ketchup to have been a little thicker since it was somewhat runny and wouldn't stick to the fries. The owner checked on us and made sure we had a great meal and encouraged us to return which we will.

Awesome. The food is always amazing and the service is the best in town. I've never had a bad meal here and I come at least once a week

That place you like to hang out at. Have eaten here a few times. The service is always personable..The coffee is a bottomless cup that seems to magically fill itself. The food has always been well prepared and done as requested. If the Colonel is cooking be prepared, this guy is a one of a kind, makes you feel right at home.. Home Run!. We stopped for a late lunch with the family after a morning at the beach. Everyone found something that they really wanted (someone nearly always wants something that isn't on the menu...it's a kid/autonomy thing) and everyone enjoyed what they got. Portions were large & the price was very reasonable. Good service, good food and a good price add up to a great experience. We will certainly return.

Ok before I get started on the restaurant I want to talk about the appearance of the employees. Upon walking up to the counter for the employee to take my to go order, I witnessed employee wearing dirty shorts and what looked like a dirty top. <br/> I think that if you're going to be working at a restaurant , there should be some professionalism in the way you look. I also witnessed a so call waitress come into the restaurant with no intention to sanitize or wash her hands before approaching the table to take the order .<br/><br/>The place looked very dirty and there was an awtheful smell. The staff went back and forth cursing at each other and made feel uncomfortable.<br/><br/> Now to the food. I just ordered an omelette with toast to go and that was about $6. I do give places i try for the first time the benefit of the doubt but looking around this establishment and its atmosphere, I decided I didn't even want to eat anything from there. So I ask for refund and told them I had to go. If you plan on eating a good breakfast or lunch from a good diner I will go to Metro Diner on 3rd Street near the beaches.

Excellent Breakfast. Huge omelette and the hash browns were perfectly crunchy and not greasy or soggy. My wife had her eggs over medium and again these were cooked perfectly.

It Was More Than Just Breakfast... The Colonel is a hoot! Our breakfast was Awesome! I had the Home Plate special and ate almost all of it, and "Princess" doesn't usually eat much. Hubby had the Corned Beef Hash with the prettiest poached eggs we have ever seen. The hash was delicious too! The experience put us in a good way for the rest of the day. We can't wait to go back.

Asking a favor............... We visit my folks and eat Sunday breakfast here often. It's always good, with plenty of coffee. I was disappointed yesterday (8/4) when the cheese omelette I ordered came out as scrambled eggs with cheese laying on top. I hope this is only a one time thing. <br/><br/>They make darn good chicken salad too.

Great Diner. Now I have been here a few times before. It's fun and the food is pretty good. "The Colonel" is quite the unique fellow but he wasn't there. Bummer He had one of his daughters there holding down the fort. I have eaten a few burgers here from the Reuben Gomez to the Wally Johnson is a burger with breakfast on top. On this trip I had a Reuben and it was pretty darn good I just miss the Col. speedy wit. So next time I hope he's in and I hope his son's baseball team did win in Tampa

Just moved to the area and found the best food and service at The Home Plate Diner. We would recommend this diner to everyone.

I had breakfast here. Got the Bullpen and it is anything but bull. 2 great tasting fluffy pancakes, 2 eggs, I like em' scrambled, 2 pieces of bacon and not or sausage. All that food, more than I could finish for only $6.00. What a deal! What a fun baseball themed environment. I will be back for sure! Thanks Col.

Homey. Just had lunch there with our double take deal coupon. Service was excellent, easy relaxing atmosphere, owner was nice, eager to please. I had a great banana chocolate shake. I had the buffalo chicken tender sub which was really good. Tenders were real chicken, big pieces, moist and tender. My husband had a rueben which he really liked. Fries were great, cole slaw was the kind we like, not sweet. We will go back, would love to try breakfast there.

Breakfast Chimi. The breakfast Chimi with a side of hash browns is the only way to start your day! Fantastic!

The food is great and the girls are nice but the boss reminds me of mels diner on tv show I just wish he would list his times of opening and closing,he must have been a cook in the navy I wonder if he ever hit a home run while playing for the red sox or was that the nations I can't remember lol<br/>great place though keep up the good work.

We stopped by yesterday for lunch and I had the French toast with eggs and my husband had chicken wings and chili cheese fries. The food and service was excellent and I was especially pleased with the preparation of my eggs over medium. It's hard to find a good egg nowadays. I would definitely come back again.

Terrible. Burger looked like skid mark in the road,asked for onions 1 ring,blue cheese looked like mayo,pretty much suks

Its a nice family ran dinner, me and the family stop here for lunch. Our waitress was fun and very bubbly, altgough I found her shirt alittle distasteful for a rest raunt because it showed her midriff. The food was amazing we will definitely come back. I had the jimbo burger.

As good as the burgers are (thay are great!), its the breakfast that I love. Its the best place at the beach for breakfast since "The Breakfast Nook" closed.

Food is always awesome! Sever, not so much... She never wears enough clothes. Yoga pants and tiny tank tops are fine for the gym, but no one wants to see your muffin top at breakfast. And her attitude sucks. We will continue to come because we love the Col.

SO GOOD!. Everything from the breakfast combinations (eggs, sausage, bacon, pancakes, grits, omlettes...the works!) to the lunch and dinner is delicious and very moderately prices. The burgers are fresh ground beef (I've seen them being made) and huge for only 5 bucks. Cheesesteaks look amazing and that will be in my next order for sure!

Best Burgers and Fries. The Colonel makes the best burgers that I have EVER eaten...Really...Even beter than "Mom's". Love the fries, too. Yummy!

It's your local greasy spoon, but it has good basic comfort food. The "Colonel" (Clue - Colonel Mustard) is always surly & entertaining. Think Basil Fawlty's American cousin. Decor is uhh...evolving. Good food tho!

One of the best experiences we have had since moving to the area. Very down home, we will be going back again!!!

This place is awesome. I am a huge breakfast fan and the omelettes are huge! I like the home cooked style and the prices are affordable. It's a place to go for easy, good food l- nothing fancy here! Definitely worth the trip!

AMAZING fresh, filling food!. Everything on the breakfast menu is delicious. It is fresh, all-american food that can be paired with coffee, juice, or even a milkshake if your heart desires. The pancakes are huge and fluffy, and the hash browns always come out HOT. The burgers are 1/2 a ound and all only FIVE BUCKS! There are a lot of choices, and even some unique toppings if you're feeling adventurous. This food is always worth the wait. I go out to eat a lot and can always appreciate fresh, delicious food.

Home Plate Diner Hits Home Run!. This retro baseball diner wins the game on good food at a reasonable price. We had late breakfast ( served all day), it was tasty, well presented by courteous and friendly waitstaff. I have also heard the burgers from the baseball themed menu rock! <br/>If we lived locally, this would be the place we have been looking for tor eat out but feel welcome.

For example, The Honus Wagner is a burger with bacon, grilled onions, ham, secret sauce, and swiss. Aside from yummy diner food, The Home Plate Diner is just plain fun. There are a list of off the wall rules, they advertise that they cater office parties, birthdays, and divorces, they have a hall of fame and a hall of shame, and everyone gets picked on equally by the Colonel. When we were there the colonel came strolling out of the kitchen and just randomly hurling good natured insults at people and giving absolutely everyone a hard time. Everyone in the place laughed and thought it was hysterical. This place definitely has character. Before I get into the food I will say that the place has a slightly funny smell and definitely looks like it could use a good scrubbing.
