The bestest in Jacksonville. I saw where someone said that their chicken was a day old, and I beg to differ. My chicken is always easy to cut, juicy, and just the way I ask for it. Every time I go, I order between 20 and $30, and it is more than two meals, but I have to have it because I love it. Their sweet and sour sauce can sit in the fridge overnight and doesn't congeal like some others do. They get to where they know who you are just by your voice on the phone and will call you by name, most generally, because they are personable that way.

Food is always good. I wish they would bring back inside dining. I recommend going through the entire. Everything is good. I really like the Super Lunch or Dinner. You get honey chicken, stir fry vegetables with chicken, shrimp and beef, lomein, fried rice, and 2 crab ragoon. I can eat off this meal 3 times.
The portions are very generous.
Shrimp egg rolls and dumplings are perfect.

A local keepsake when you get that craving for Asian cuisine. Top choice for vegetarians, Tofu fried hard with vegetarians in Curry Sauce!

To my Latin people (because I don’t know what other cultures flavor preference)! I was born and raised in Puerto Rico and back when I was growing couldn’t understand why my aunt when visiting PR needed to eat Chinese food. Sooo I am already a grown mama and everything, I’ve live in MS, VA, UT and FL and I must say it’s preeeetty damn difficult find good Chinese food, or that have something even similar than Chinese places in PR… that been said, besides of Chino Rico, down in Kissimmee area, I must say Chan’s my FAVORITE Chinese food in any of these states! You gotta order their House fried rice (no mushroom for me) but it got also eggs, ham, pork, shrimps and onions! It’s heaven and of course their Pepper Steak because their sauce is on point, and I’ve been here at least 18 times or so, so… try what I always always order and mark my words! I love Chan’s food!

This isn’t your usual takeout restaurant! Dining area has nice tables and booths and was clean with friendly and fast service. The food was upscale quality for a low price. Most lunch specials were about $6.99 and you get a lot of food.

Great portion for a fair price! Even has some good chop sticks!

Love this place.
Ignore the bad reviews.
The food is always excellent.

After many years of patronizing the Chinese takeout nearest my house, it was time for a change as their quality had gone downhill. Many people recommended Chan's so we tried it a couple of times. My, what a difference! Fresher food, better sauces, MUCH better flavors, and FINALLY a Chinese rice that tastes Chinese and isn't yellow! Prices are great, quality is excellent, speed is fast and the staff is friendly. That last one is a biggie. I had become accustomed to loud, obnoxious employees but just dealt with it. No more. Chan's for the win!

Something about good mom and pop's Chinese food !! Is comfort food for the soul. I've been eating here for 10 years when they were originally in the other complex. Their new location is easy to spot and the decoration makes it feel up scale .. I ordered crispy noodles and shrimp lo mein.. my staple college food which is now my adult food of choice for quick Chinese. The noodles for the lo mein are soft and flavor of the shrimp is fresh and not too salty... The crispy noodles are as good as some other restraunts ..in California but in the end this is just quick Chinese food .. that's still amazing after 10 years ... #jaxlocalvibes

I'm from Texas, so I had to look for a new Chinese restaurant that I like. Guess what, I found it. They held the door open for me, entered my order as I requested. I received what I asked for and more, because it was the best Chinese food I've had since being here. They give you nice portions, it was hot, tasted great, and the sweet & sour sauce was on point too! You know how sometimes the sweet-and-sour sauce will gel up really bad, well not here. Even after being in the fridge all night it still tasted good and was still nice and runny/juicy, not all gelled up. I will definitely be eating it here every time I want Chinese now. Thank you for the great service.

Food was good, go check them out.
*Last two pictures: Sesame Seed Chicken, Vegetable egg roll.

Chan's Chinese is the greatest restaurant known to man. I would highly recommend it. Great service, a great location, and incredible food. The rice is delicious, and when it's fried it is divine.

Thank you Chan's for all the great memories!

Egg roll had blue stuff in it and gummy. I ordered a shrimp egg roll, the inside was not cooked.
blue raw shrimp inside. When I called to complain, the guy didn't believe me. He said they cook it Before wrapping it. I have no reason to lie. Gross

I really like the food this place gives out & the new location is very nice. My favorite dishes are the Singapore Mei Fun and shrimp fried rice "I'm so basic" the portion sizes are hefty also.

The service is great. Food is wonderful.

Chan's Closed. My husband and I drove there especially for the Cashew Chicken and Shrimp Lo Mein on afternoon and, a sign in the window said, "CLOSED".... The windows were bare and the place empty. I'm sad... I LOVED their food. Kind people. Good service, and great food.

REAL ingredients that seem to confuse people.. When you eat at Chans the first time you will notice the the food is different from all the other Chinese places in Jax. The rice isn't oily because it is cooked properly, the sweet n sour chicken is actually chunks of real chicken, and they give you a lot.. Eat here a few times and get your tastebuds up to speed with real food..

source: been eating here for almost 30 years

Horrible Food ( 0 Stars) january 13, 2015. I did 2 take out orders one was the shrimp egg foo yong, and the house fried rice. The rice was not freshly cooked and it had no appearance, flavor, or oil to indicate that it was fried. it seemed that their so called fried rice is cooked with some type of browning sauce to make it appear to have been fried. Also I believe what they do is when you order, shrimp, pork, or whatever the meat is that you want of the fried rice, they just heat up the meat and throw it into the already brown rice- and when I say brownish rice; I mean the rice is boiled in some type of brown liquid; and it not soya sauce. So you end up with brownish rice but in reality it was not fried with any soya sauce, and of course, did not come near a yok (SP). The egg foo yon was made with artificial liquid eggs and placed in a tray with gravy on it . The egg foo yong , the rice with the gravy was a mess when I got it home. None of the items had any flavor what so ever. And, of course, theegg foo yong was not fried either, but apparently was prepared in some kind of a way - steamed. None of the food was fried. If you notice you do not smell any food inside the building when you shop there.

Simply great always. I have been going to Chan's for many years. definitely a repeat customer, never thought to write a review for them before now. so here it goes, I'm not going to tell you any b.s. if you want great Chinese food at a reasonable price, this is THE place, they have always been good, have never had a complaint, always quick to the table, and very good size servings, have not had everything on the menu but all i have had has been just great. so there, try them, i am sure you will like them

You have to kidding me. I can't believe I ate here based off of Urban Spoon rating. The food here is same cheap ingredient Chinese crap that is at every strip mall in this town. The flavor is very bland and canned, beef and broccoli was lousy with meat that had a very strange texture, chicken chow mein also gross with pieces of grisel and bone in the chicken. The owner/manager did not care that we didn't eat our meal or inquire why. I've eaten at Chinatown in San Francisco before, this place is no comparison. It should not be rated this high.

Super. I live in the Highlands area where Chang's has been on the came corner for ever. Yesterday I eat Combination Lunch #9...Moo Goo Gai Pan. I commented to my companion I felt I was eating back in Chicago's China Town, where my family took me back in the 40's. This is a HUGE complement on my part. I do not have to go to Town Center to find excellent food! Barbara

I'm confused. 94% had food different from what I received, or 94% don't know what decent Chinese take out tastes like? The most disgusting hot & sour soup and fried rice I have ever purchased. Chicken wings were okay, but, the rest was inedible. Blech!!!

Stopped off the highway to eat here - definitely worth the stop. Family owned business with a friendly atmosphere and tasty food. Would definitely stop here again but wished there were more vegetarian options.

Chans on Dunn Ave. Jax., Fl.. I have been eating at Chans for going on 22 years. They have the best chinese I have had anywhere in Jacksonville. I have never had a bad experience there eating in or getting it to go. I love the place!!
Eryn Spillers
I've been eating here for as long as I can remember and I've traveled all over this country and no matter where I'm at I always compare any Chinese food to Chan's they are the best!!!
Andy Nichols
We have been eating here for years. After having lived inNew York for twenty years and eating in Chinatown there. I can say this is the best in Jax great
Jeremy
Have been eating there for 20 years. Can't beet the quality and quantity of food you get there.

Best Chinese In Jax!. My family has been eating Chan's like -- forever! Every time we eat Chinese anywhere else, we always compare it to Chan's and most of the time, we wish we were there and not where we are.

I don't know how they make their House Fried Rice so good, but I know folks who drive from the beach just to get their HFR.

It is so nice to go to a restaurant and see familiar faces, both of staff, owners, and customers. The restaurant is very attractive, some have said "old", but that just adds to the charm.

BEST chinese food in the world!!

Good food, friendly staff. I've been going to Chan's for years now. I don't usually eat-in, but get take out. My favorite dishes are the Beef Lo-mein, and the Kung Pao Beef. I'm a rather picky eater so these two dishes don't have a lot of stuff I don't like in them. The staff is friendly, and Cindy at the front counter is pretty nice, but has some sass that is funny. I've read up on the Florida license inspection portal to see the inspections like I do for many restaurants I'm either curious in or where I already am a patron, and I feel it's in pretty good standing in that regard. I don't feel uncomfortable or suspicious. And for all you other reviewers, I grew up on this side of town, and your slamming the Northside all the time doesn't help any. I know the demographic scares you who live in the ritzy areas. But when each of you have to mention how it's not a great area, etc. you're already implanting a negative image in the mind of someone who's never been here before and conditioning them with your stereotypical comments of this side of town. Some of which are not unfounded. But there are some places on the Southside and Regency area where companies won't even do deliveries because the crime is so bad.

As others have stated, the location isn't that great and the interior is very old, but if you can look past that, the food is very good. It's definitely not your quick wok places that seem to be on every corner in this town. Every dish is unique and very flavorful. It's well worth the drive, during daylight of course...
JaxFoodieFreak
LOVE this place!. It's not in the greatest location, the inside of the restaurant is not ideal BUT love, love their food here! When my hubby worked near here, we ordered take out from here almost weekly. Try their house lo mein, duck, spicy chicken, whatever, you can't go wrong. Best part? Their prices! Hot fresh delicious Chinese food cheap, what more can you ask for? Note: The other Chans location near downtown is nowhere near the quality of the northside location; I only go to this one because it seems the other locations may not have offer the same quality as the original.

A Staple. Good 'everyday Chinese' fare. Generous portions. Great prices. The staff is fast & friendly. Chans has been in business for about 50 years- so it's not suprizing that they 'got it right'.
